RT Chapter 49
by VolareChapter 49: Good Boy
The sun was shining brightly today, with a gentle spring breeze.
Shu Lin went with Shao Yuqin to her villa, and they sat in the courtyard chatting.
A domestic helper brought them dessert and juice.
Shao Yuqin took a sip of hot tea and said with a smile, “I specially had this strawberry cake made for you and squeezed some orange juice. Chengxi said you like it.”
“Thank you, Great-Aunt,” Shu Lin said, putting down his teacup. He ate the cake with a beaming smile. “Mmm, it’s delicious. Great-Aunt, would you like to try some?”
Shao Yuqin didn’t have a sweet tooth, but seeing the child eating so happily and the eager, enthusiastic look in his eyes as he offered her the cake, she readily agreed, “Alright, I’ll try some.”
She took a small bite of the cake, chewing slowly, her gaze fixed on Shu Lin’s face.
This child before her, still bearing a hint of childishness, had a smile on his face, but a faint trace of melancholy hidden in his eyes.
Shao Yuqin put down her fork, picked up her teacup, and said in a gentle tone, “Child, have you decided whether or not you want to complain to Great-Aunt?”
Shu Lin put down the cake plate, pursed his lips, smiled, and shook his head:
“My father said that everyone talks about others behind their backs, and everyone is talked about behind their backs. They didn’t say those things to my face, and if I keep dwelling on it, I’ll seem petty.”
Shao Yuqin nodded. “Well, that makes sense. If you don’t care about those words, you can just treat them like farts, let them go. But, child, you clearly mind what they said, don’t you?”
Shu Lin’s eyes flickered, and he lowered his head, unconsciously stirring the orange juice in his cup. His voice was so soft it was almost inaudible: “Great-Aunt, I… I do mind a little.”
Everyone seemed to think that apart from his face and his US-Class Omega status, he was good for nothing.
Shao Yuqin sighed softly and put down her teacup. “Would you like to hear Great-Aunt talk about her own experiences?”
Shu Lin raised his head, looking at her with some confusion.
Shao Yuqin smiled slightly, gazing at South Mountain, her eyes distant:
“I was born as the Shao family’s eldest daughter. From childhood, everyone around me was respectful to me, but behind my back, I don’t know how many people said that I had ordinary looks and ordinary abilities. If I wasn’t relying on being the Shao family’s daughter, who would take me seriously?”
Hearing this, Shu Lin raised his eyebrows in surprise.
See, his dad wasn’t wrong.
Everyone talks about others behind their backs, and everyone is talked about behind their backs.
“Actually, I knew in my heart that they weren’t wrong. I really wasn’t anything special, except for having a good life, being born into the Shao family.”
She paused, withdrew her distant gaze, and looked at Shu Lin:
“But so what? No matter how dissatisfied or jealous people are, they can’t change the fact that I am the Shao family’s eldest daughter. Heaven gives you things that others can’t obtain even with effort without you having to try. That’s fate. Having a good fate is also a kind of ability.”
Shu Lin seemed to understand what she was trying to say.
Shao Yuqin continued, her tone carrying a hint of deeper meaning:
“When I was young, I always wanted to shed my identity as the Shao family’s eldest daughter, wanting to prove something. Later, I figured it out. Since Heaven gave me this destiny, then I will accept it calmly, and then, enjoy it.”
Shao Yuqin’s gaze was kind and tolerant.
Shu Lin met her gaze, feeling a string in his heart being plucked.
Great-Aunt meant… he should calmly accept everything that his US-Class Omega status brought him.
Including, by virtue of this status, becoming Shao Chengxi’s Omega.
Shao Yuqin seemed to see what he was thinking, her tone carrying a hint of encouragement:
“Your US-Class Omega status is your advantage, don’t let it become your shackle. You should learn to use this advantage to live a more comfortable and free life. No matter what others say, it’s nothing more than sour grapes.”
Leaving Shao Yuqin’s villa, Shu Lin walked back slowly, looking thoughtful. Unintentionally, he turned onto a path through the woods.
He followed the path for who knows how long, and when he came to his senses, he looked around, but could hear nothing but the sound of birds.
He sighed inexplicably, found a clean rock to sit on, hugged his knees to his chest, rested his head on his knees, and stared blankly at the ants busily working below.
Sometimes he heard those harsh words echoing in his ears, sometimes it was Shao Yuqin’s voice, pulling him back and forth, refusing to leave.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when his phone suddenly rang.
Shu Lin was startled for a moment, then slowly pulled out his phone, staring at the three words “Shao Chengxi” on the screen.
Just as the ringing was about to stop, he pressed the answer button.
“Baby, where are you?” Shao Chengxi’s anxious voice came through the phone.
Shu Lin opened his mouth, looked around, and realized that the sun had already set.
But he didn’t know where he was.
South Mountain was too big.
“I… I’m on the mountain,” Shu Lin could only confirm this.
“On the mountain?” Shao Chengxi’s voice was noticeably louder. “Why did you run up the mountain? Great-Aunt said you left a long time ago.”
Shu Lin lowered his head, unconsciously picking at the moss on the rock. “I… I was just taking a walk.”
There was silence on the other end of the phone for a few seconds, then Shao Chengxi’s deep voice came: “Stay where you are, don’t move. I’ll be right there.”
Before Shu Lin could say anything, the phone had already been hung up.
He sighed, put his phone back in his pocket, and continued to stare at the ants below.
Before long, the sound of hurried footsteps came.
Shu Lin raised his head and saw Shao Chengxi walking quickly towards him.
He quickly stood up.
“Put on your coat, the temperature difference is big on the mountain in the morning and evening, don’t get cold.” Shao Chengxi helped him put on his coat and pulled him into his arms.
Shao Chengxi’s chest was broad, solid, and warm.
“Let’s go, it’s getting dark, let’s go back first.”
“Mm.” Shu Lin looked up at him, obediently nodded, and allowed him to pull him along the small path back.
He knew that Shao Chengxi had found him through his phone’s location.
Along the way, neither of them spoke, only the rustling of the leaves in the wind.
Back at Shao Tingrui’s residence, Shu Lin saw those people in the pavilion again.
They looked embarrassed, and taking the opportunity, called Shu Lin aside, apologizing with smiles, and forced a lot of valuable gifts on Shu Lin.
Shu Lin originally didn’t want to accept them, but suddenly remembering Shao Yuqin’s words, he finally accepted them.
Seeing that he had accepted the gifts, those people secretly breathed a sigh of relief and then left feeling relieved.
In the evening, Shao Chengxi came out after taking a shower and saw Shu Lin sitting on the edge of the bed in a daze.
He walked over and reached out to lift Shu Lin’s chin. “What is baby thinking about?”
Shu Lin raised his head, looked into Shao Chengxi’s deep eyes, opened his mouth, but didn’t know what to say.
Shao Chengxi didn’t wait for him to answer, and lowered his head to kiss him.
After a while, Shao Chengxi held his face and said:
“Baby, this next period of time is very important to me, you have to be good and listen, understand?”
Shu Lin met his gaze and didn’t say anything.
Shao Chengxi’s tone became more serious: “Promise me, baby…”
Under his gaze, Shu Lin replied:
“I… I’ll be good, I’ll listen to you…”
Shao Chengxi kissed him.
“Baby, during this time, you can’t leave my side for more than four hours, remember, remember, did you hear clearly?”
Shu Lin nodded obediently: “I heard clearly.”
Shao Chengxi gave him a satisfied smile, “Good boy.”
