Chapter 34: Don’t Be So Scared That You Run Into My Arms

Shao Bingheng’s outburst tonight had a reason.

Shao Yuanheng’s treatment at the hospital had actually ended, reaching the limit of what could be controlled.

Attending physician Chen Mingyuan suggested he be discharged before New Year’s Eve to recuperate at home.

But he stubbornly refused to leave the hospital, all to avoid the New Year’s Eve family dinner.

He wanted to avoid any place where Shu Lin was present.

If he left the hospital and then didn’t attend the New Year’s Eve family dinner, it wouldn’t be justifiable, and he wouldn’t be able to explain it to Shao Tingrui and Shao Bingheng.

But Shao Bingheng knew Shao Yuanheng’s condition best.

He knew that Shao Yuanheng was clinging to the hospital stay, and this morning, he had insisted on dragging him to attend tonight’s family dinner.

Because of his illness, Shao Yuanheng hadn’t appeared in public for a long time, and not only were outsiders speculating, but even people within the family were gossiping.

Shao Bingheng wanted to use this family dinner to show Shao Yuanheng off and shut everyone up.

However, Shao Yuanheng’s inexplicable avoidance really irritated him.

Under his pressure, Shao Yuanheng had no choice but to tell a half-true lie.

He told Shao Bingheng that Director Li said his pheromone imbalance disorder could be cured, but it needed the assistance of US-Class Omega pheromones for treatment.

To this end, he requested Shao Chengxi to allow Shu Lin to provide him with pheromones to help him cure his illness.

But Shao Chengxi firmly disagreed and even misunderstood that he was eyeing his Omega, plotting something improper.

The two had a fierce argument over this.

In a fit of anger, Shao Chengxi threatened him, telling him to stay away from his Omega.

Shao Yuanheng put on a miserable act in front of Shao Bingheng, saying:

“Father, Chengxi said that in the future, wherever his Omega is present, I have to stay far away. He values Shu Lin so much, I don’t want to hurt brotherly harmony or upset his Omega. He and Shu Lin will definitely attend tonight’s family dinner, so I have to avoid it. Please don’t force me.”

Shao Bingheng was furious when he heard this.

He never expected that for the sake of an Omega, his second son would privately bully his eldest brother like this.

    Yes, US-Class Omegas were rare.

But he couldn’t use this as an excuse to bully Shao Bingheng’s son.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. He originally wanted to suppress his anger and wait until after New Year’s Eve to settle the score with Shao Chengxi and his husband.

However, at the dinner party, seeing Shao Chengxi spoiling his Omega endlessly, he was furious at how useless his second son was.

In the heat of the moment, he made such a fool of himself, letting the people from the other branches watch the spectacle for nothing.

It was clear that marrying a US-Class Omega wasn’t necessarily a good thing.

Now, Shao Tingrui was asking him for the reason in person, but he was hesitating whether to tell the truth.

Seeing that he wasn’t saying anything, Shao Tingrui became impatient, “Speak up! What’s with sitting there in silence at your age?”

Shao Bingheng pouted, raised his eyelids, and said:

“I’m just angry that Chengxi spoils his Omega too much. The last time I saw Vice President Wu Xun in Fenghang City, Shu Lin didn’t understand political etiquette and behaved poorly.”

“I wanted Chengxi to arrange for him to learn political and business etiquette, but Chengxi said Shu Lin was still young and shouldn’t learn it yet.”

“Father, Chengxi is spoiling him too much like this. What do you think?”

Hearing this, Shao Tingrui frowned and asked, “Chengxi, is there such a thing?”

Shao Chengxi readily nodded, “Grandpa, Father is right, there is such a thing.”

Shao Tingrui: “What are your specific thoughts?”

Shao Chengxi: “It’s a fact that Shu Lin is young. When I was nineteen, I was still in military academy, all I knew was competing with comrades from the special forces, who cared about etiquette?”

Shao Bingheng: “Can you compare to him? You grew up in the Shao family, what haven’t you seen? You’re exposed to it from a young age, there’s no need to learn it separately.”

Shao Chengxi glanced at Shao Tingrui.

Shao Tingrui clicked his tongue, “Don’t interrupt, let the child finish speaking.”

Shao Bingheng snorted and stopped talking.

    Shao Chengxi continued:

“When Father and I went to the Shu family, the Shu family also mentioned the issue of Shu Lin being young, hoping for understanding and tolerance, and that we should keep the marriage secret first and make it public after he graduates from university.”

    “We agreed to this.”

Shao Tingrui: “That’s right, you two told me when you came back, and I thought it made sense, so I agreed.”

Shao Chengxi: “Putting myself in their shoes, the Shu family specifically mentioned this, simply because they didn’t want Shu Lin to be restricted too early and wanted him to have more freedom like ordinary children. And I don’t want him to be like that too early either.”

    Shao Tingrui: “So, your opinion?”

Shao Chengxi: “Abide by the previous agreement and let him grow slowly until he graduates from university.”

Shao Bingheng’s breathing was a little heavy, “You’ll be very tired this way.”

Shao Chengxi chuckled, “Father, you forgot, I’m an S-Class Alpha. The most tiring thing is enduring the torment of the rut. With Shu Lin, I no longer have to suffer this torment, so how can there be any talk of being tired?”

Shao Bingheng opened his mouth, but had nothing more to say.

Shao Tingrui finally made a decision, “There’s nothing more to say, just do as Chengxi says. The Shao family agreed to Shu Lin entering the family, mainly because they valued him as a US-Class Omega. We can’t have it both ways, that’s too greedy.”

Shao Bingheng sighed unwillingly, “That’s what they say, but…”

Shao Tingrui: “No need to worry too much. Didn’t you say he’d be exposed to it from a young age? In the future, let Shu Lin come here more often. Three years by my side, and he’ll learn all the etiquette of wealthy families, they’re all just superficial things, don’t take them so seriously.”

Shao Bingheng: “Hmph, it’s not easy to get him to come to South Mountain.”

Shao Chengxi: “Grandpa, Father, don’t worry, I’ll bring him whenever I have time in the future.”

That was all that was said.

Looking at the time, it was almost twelve midnight.

The Shao Residence’s annual New Year’s fireworks show was about to begin.

When the three walked out of the study, the fireworks were already in place, waiting for the New Year’s bell to ring, and all the fireworks to be set off.

Every year, the Shao family, young and old, would stay up together on New Year’s Eve.

Shao Chengxi looked for Shu Lin’s figure in the hall.

He saw Shao Shiyan with one arm around Shu Lin’s shoulder, the two squeezed together, standing on a corner terrace. Shao Shiyan was pointing at different fireworks locations, enthusiastically introducing something to him.

Shu Lin’s gaze followed his finger movements, his eyes sparkling, with smiles and surprise between his eyebrows.

His smile was as pure as a child’s. From childhood to adulthood, Shao Chengxi had rarely seen such an unguarded smile around him.

Approaching them, Shao Chengxi heard Shao Shiyan’s noisy voice.

“That spot has the biggest firework display, it’s the Shao Residence’s ‘treasure,’ always the final act every year. When it’s lit, the entire Imperial Capital can see it, even the Presidential Palace ‘scrounges’ a view every year!”

Shu Lin widened his eyes, “Really? How big is it then?”

Shao Shiyan grinned, pretended to be mysterious, and lowered his voice:

“That’s right, it’s said that when it was lit last year, it scared all the dogs in the residence to run around everywhere, and they didn’t dare to come out for three days!”

Shu Lin raised his eyebrows in surprise, “You’re kidding, it’s not that exaggerated, is it?”

Shao Shiyan shrugged, “I’m not kidding you, if you don’t believe me, watch it yourself later.”

Shu Lin looked forward to it, “I haven’t seen such a large-scale fireworks show before, I’m going to have my eyes opened tonight.”

Shao Shiyan laughed, “You’ll be able to see it every year from now on. There will be firecrackers later too, I’m reminding you, be prepared, don’t be so scared that you run into my arms, I don’t want to be…”

“Shiyan, what nonsense are you talking about here again?”

The two turned their heads at the same time and saw Shao Chengxi standing behind them.

Shao Shiyan immediately raised his hands in surrender, “Second Brother, spare me, I didn’t do anything, I’m leaving now, making room for you.”

    After speaking, he slipped away.

Shu Lin was about to speak when Shao Chengxi took his hand and walked outside.

“Where are we going?” Shu Lin asked.
