    Chapter 94: Researching Zombies

Jiang Xianchuan slowly woke up, his eyes still blurry with sleep, when he suddenly noticed something unusual by the head of his bed. Focusing, he saw a note quietly stuck there.

Curious, he reached for the note, and saw a line written in flamboyant calligraphy: “Wife, Bai Su has something to discuss with me today, so I’ve gone to find him first. Breakfast is on the table, remember to heat it in the microwave before eating. Love you, your husband.”

After reading the note, Jiang Xianchuan’s heart was immediately filled with a warm current, as if the spring sun was shining on his heart. Smiling, he turned his head to look at the table and, sure enough, saw a carefully prepared breakfast laid out there. The exquisite presentation and plentiful food showed Li Lingyu’s care and consideration for him in every detail.

Jiang Xianchuan slowly got up and sat down at the table. He gently stroked the plate, which still held some warmth, and the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curve upwards, forming a beautiful arc. Then, following the instructions on the note, he put the breakfast into the microwave to heat it up. As the microwave hummed, waves of fragrance wafted over, stimulating his appetite.

Jiang Xianchuan began to slowly enjoy this loving meal, savoring every bite and feeling the deep affection it contained. After a satisfying meal, Jiang Xianchuan wiped his mouth contentedly and got up to go to the balcony. He leaned lazily on the railing, gazing at the picturesque scenery outside the window, feeling particularly relaxed.

Just then, a crisp knock on the door broke the silence. Jiang Xianchuan came back to his senses and turned to go to the door. When he opened it, a familiar figure came into view, it was Qi Xiaoyao.

“What’s wrong, Xiaoyao?” Jiang Xianchuan asked softly.

Qi Xiaoyao didn’t answer immediately, but first handed him a list before speaking, “These are the names of the people who tried to escape from the camp. Can you take a look and decide what to do with them?”

Jiang Xianchuan took the list and carefully scanned it. After a moment, he raised his head and said with a firm gaze, “Hmm… Let them go, but injure them before letting them go. As for whether they can survive, it’s up to their own luck.”

Qi Xiaoyao nodded to show that he understood, and then prepared to turn and leave. However, after taking only one step, Jiang Xianchuan called out to him, “Wait, why didn’t Bai Su come?”

Hearing this question, Qi Xiaoyao shook his head and replied helplessly, “I don’t know, I haven’t seen him.” After speaking, he left, leaving Jiang Xianchuan standing there, thoughtfully watching his departing figure.

“Strange…” Thinking of the note left by Li Lingyu, Jiang Xianchuan felt a strange feeling rise in his heart, so he walked out of the room and looked for the two men in the hospital, but he couldn’t find them anywhere.

Jiang Xianchuan dragged his slightly tired body and slowly walked toward the ward. He thought to himself that he should go back to bed and rest first, and then make plans after Li Lingyu and Bai Su returned.

As he lay on the soft bed, he gently closed his eyes, trying to fall asleep. Although his body was extremely tired, the thoughts in his mind were like turbulent waves, rising and falling and refusing to calm down. The uneasy feeling was like an invisible hand, tightly gripping his heart, and constantly pulling it, making the unease even stronger.

Just then, an extremely subtle sound entered Jiang Xianchuan’s ears from outside the door. Although the sound was not loud, it seemed particularly clear in the silent environment. Originally still a little drowsy, Jiang Xianchuan instantly became alert. He flipped over and sat up from the bed, then tiptoed to the door. After hesitating for a moment, he reached out and grabbed the doorknob, and suddenly pulled the door open.

The moment the door opened, he looked down and saw a note lying quietly on the ground. Jiang Xianchuan quickly bent down and picked up the note. Looking closely, the familiar handwriting was indeed from Li Lingyu: “Wife, we’ve found some important clues and can’t go back for the time being, remember to miss me.”

Looking at the contents of the note, Jiang Xianchuan couldn’t help but frown. A strange feeling surged into his heart, he always felt that this matter was not so simple. After a short period of thought, Jiang Xianchuan finally made up his mind to look for Li Lingyu and Bai Su, he had to get to the bottom of the matter.

So, he walked out of the ward, relying on his keen intuition to walk towards the basement of the hospital. Along the way, he maintained a high degree of vigilance, carefully listening to even the slightest sound around him.

After an unknown amount of time, he finally arrived at a room located deep in the basement, in a very remote location. Through the crack in the door, he vaguely saw two figures in the room, were they not Li Lingyu and Bai Su?

They were gathered together, heads bowed, focusing intently on studying some object or thing, and each person’s expression was abnormally serious, as if facing a life-or-death challenge. Just then, Jiang Xianchuan walked closer with steady steps, and curiously asked, “What on earth is going on? You all look like you’re facing a formidable enemy.”

Hearing the sound, Li Lingyu suddenly raised his head, and when he saw that the person was Jiang Xianchuan, a look of surprise flashed in his eyes, and he blurted out, “Wife, why are you here?”

Jiang Xianchuan raised his eyebrows and retorted, “Can’t I come and see what’s going on?”

Li Lingyu hurriedly shook his head and explained, “No, it’s just…” Before he could finish speaking, Bai Su interrupted, “Camp Leader, we’ve tried many methods, but we still can’t completely eliminate this zombie.”

Hearing this, Jiang Xianchuan didn’t hesitate to step towards the bound zombie.

Looking closely after getting closer, he saw that the zombie’s body was tattered beyond recognition, covered with hideous and terrifying wounds. Some of the wounds were still oozing black and red pus, emitting an unbearable stench.

However, what was even more bizarre was that although the zombie was in such a miserable state, there was a sinister smile on its face, a smile that seemed to be ruthlessly mocking everyone’s powerlessness.

Seeing this, Jiang Xianchuan turned to look at Li Lingyu and Bai Su, and questioned, “Why didn’t you tell me about such an important matter earlier?”

Faced with Jiang Xianchuan’s question, Li Lingyu and Bai Su looked at each other, and both fell silent, neither of them knowing how to answer this question.

Seeing this situation, Jiang Xianchuan helplessly waved his hand, indicating that he would no longer pursue the matter. Then, he turned his gaze back to the zombie with the strange smile on its face, and began to carefully observe it.
