Chapter 5: Encountering a Ruthless Person

In the beginning, the water and electricity supply were still normal, and government helicopters would occasionally fly over to drop off some supplies and broadcast words of encouragement to everyone, urging them to survive. But as time went on, not only did the water and electricity get cut off, but the government helicopters also disappeared without a trace.

However, the suspension of water and electricity did not have much impact on Jiang Xianchuan’s life.

Just as Jiang Xianchuan was teaching Shi Yi how to fight zombies, a loud slamming of a door was heard. Jiang Xianchuan was certain it came from next door.

Could it be that Uncle next door went out?

With this question in mind, Jiang Xianchuan turned on the previously installed surveillance camera and pulled up the playback.

Two figures were seen being chased by several zombies. The person in the lead opened the door, and as soon as they went inside, they immediately closed the door.

You guys got to go home, so the zombies at the door are my bad luck?

Just as Jiang Xianchuan was considering whether to go out and deal with those few zombies, Shi Yi called him to the balcony.

    “Listen.”

“You two good-for-nothing brats! You ate all the little food we had at home? Raising you two is just bad luck!”

After that, there was the sound of things being smashed, as well as the crying of little girls.

“Damn, is this domestic violence happening next door?”

Shi Yi nodded. When she used to go to work, she had met the little girls next door. They were twins, and every time they saw her, they would sweetly call her “Sister.” Shi Yi would occasionally give them some candy.

But she also noticed the bruises on the little girls’ hands.

Shi Yi had called the police before, but the police were always turned away.

“This person is inhuman! He even beats his own daughters!”

Jiang Xianchuan thought of the arrogant way this person had acted that day, and he immediately felt a surge of anger.

“What’s the deal with that guy across the hall? When I met him before, he acted all high and mighty.”

“His name is Tan Wei. It seems he’s a physical education teacher at the Experimental Middle School. His daughters are twins. The older sister is Tan Yi, and the younger sister is Tan Fei. His wife ran away with someone else a long time ago.”

    “A damned scumbag.”

In the following days, crying could be heard from next door, but then it disappeared.

“Why haven’t we heard Tan Wei’s powerlessness in the face of raging anger today?”

Jiang Xianchuan was watering the seeds planted by Shi Yi on the balcony. In the past, Tan Wei would have already started scolding his two daughters at this time.

    Ding-dong – ding-dong –

It was the sound of the doorbell.

The two of them immediately became alert when their doorbell rang. Shi Yi immediately pulled up the surveillance footage. Standing at the door was a young man covered in blood.

Seeing that the people inside the door were not moving, he went into Tan Wei’s house, then came out with a piece of paper. On it were scrawled several large characters: [Those two little girls are starving to death]

Jiang Xianchuan and Shi Yi both saw this scene on the surveillance camera. Seeing that there was no reaction, the young man returned to Tan Wei’s house.

    “What should we do?”

Shi Yi looked at Jiang Xianchuan. In fact, Jiang Xianchuan himself didn’t know. He didn’t know if this young man’s intentions were friendly.

Just as the two of them were unable to make a decision, the young man appeared in the surveillance camera again, but this time, he dragged a corpse out of Tan Wei’s house.

    “It’s… it’s Tan Wei!”

Shi Yi pointed at the surveillance screen. Jiang Xianchuan was also no longer calm. The reason they hadn’t heard Tan Wei’s voice today was because this young man had killed him?

Thinking of this, Jiang Xianchuan couldn’t help but feel a chill down his spine. “I want to open the door. I want to see what he means by all this.” If he was a threat, he wouldn’t be soft-hearted either.

“Okay, I’ll listen to you. I’ll ambush myself behind the door then.”

So the two of them opened the door. Jiang Xianchuan sized up the young man in front of him. He didn’t say a word, just looked at him calmly.

    “What do you mean?”

The young man glanced at the fruit knife in Jiang Xianchuan’s hand, then looked into his eyes. “They’re… starving to death.”

Hearing this, Jiang Xianchuan had Shi Yi get a few loaves of bread and a few bottles of water and hand them to him, but the young man didn’t keep any for himself, giving them all to the two little girls.

Watching the two sisters gobble it down, Jiang Xianchuan was somewhat moved, so he looked at the young man, “Aren’t you going to eat?”

But the young man did not answer him, but threw Tan Wei’s body out of the hallway window, then returned to Tan Wei’s house and closed the door.

Seeing this, Jiang Xianchuan immediately closed the door as well. His intuition told him that the young man in front of him was definitely not simple.

“I think we may have encountered a ruthless person.”
