RTIWTLITEOTW Chapter 31
by VolareChapter 31: Conflict Erupts
The night was as dark as ink, with stars dotting the sky. Li Lingyu and Jiang Xianchuan sat in front of the tent, discussing various topics.
They talked about everything from trivial matters in life to their ideal pursuits, from astronomy and geography to literature and art. Time passed unnoticed, and the sky gradually turned a fish-belly white, signaling the start of a new day.
As the first ray of sunlight filtered through the clouds and sprinkled on the earth, Shi Yi slowly opened her eyes. She rubbed her eyes, sat up, and stretched.
At this moment, she heard a slight noise outside the tent, so she opened the tent door and walked out.
She saw Jiang Xianchuan standing by the bonfire, holding an iron spoon in his hand, stirring the food in the pot. He had a faint smile on his face.
Seeing Shi Yi come out, he smiled and greeted, “Good morning! How did you sleep last night?”
Shi Yi walked over and replied with a smile, “Pretty good. Thanks to you two for keeping watch.”
Jiang Xianchuan gently shook his head, indicating that she didn’t need to thank them. Then, he scooped the cooked food into a bowl and handed it to Shi Yi.
Shi Yi took the bowl and glanced at it. It turned out to be a bowl of steaming porridge with some nuts and dried fruit added.
“I made this when I got up this morning. Try it and see how it tastes,” Jiang Xianchuan said.
Shi Yi nodded, picked up the spoon, and took a sip. She immediately felt a warm current flowing down her throat into her stomach. The porridge had a delicate and sweet taste, leaving a lingering aftertaste.
“It tastes good!” Shi Yi exclaimed, “But when did you become a cook?”
Jiang Xianchuan smiled and said, “With my Yu Bao’s help, it’s only natural that it tastes good.”
After the three of them finished breakfast and packed up the tent, they prepared to leave the place.
Just then, a few fully armed people walked in from another entrance. These people had various weapons and equipment on their backs, making them look very professional and serious.
As soon as they entered, they saw Jiang Xianchuan and his group, and immediately became alert, tightening their grip on the guns in their hands.
The leader frowned and loudly questioned, “Who are you! Why are you here!” His voice was full of vigilance and suspicion.
Looking at their attitude, Jiang Xianchuan also felt a surge of displeasure in his heart. So, he responded without backing down, “This isn’t your home, so why do you care where we are?” His tone was provocative, making the atmosphere tense.
“This is our camp. What is your purpose here!” The leader looked at Jiang Xianchuan and the others warily, holding his weapon tightly, ready to deal with any possible danger. The people behind him also looked nervous and wary.
“Oh~ So it’s your camp. We were planning to go to the suburbs and just stopped here last night to rest,” Jiang Xianchuan replied with a relaxed expression, seemingly not caring about the other party’s questioning, without the slightest hint of fear.
After hearing Jiang Xianchuan’s explanation, the leader, although still somewhat suspicious, reduced his hostility a bit.
He frowned, sizing up Jiang Xianchuan and the others, trying to determine if they were really just passing through.
“Since it’s your camp, we’ll leave now,” Jiang Xianchuan said, turning around with the three of them to leave.
“Wait! Let us check your backpacks!” One of the men shouted, his tone full of provocation and threat. They didn’t seem willing to let Jiang Xianchuan and the others off easily.
Hearing these words, Li Lingyu’s face turned gloomy. He gripped the hilt of his knife tightly, ready to deal with any possible conflict.
However, Jiang Xianchuan gently patted his hand, signaling him to remain calm and not act rashly.
“Check our backpacks? Why?” Jiang Xianchuan stopped, turned back to look at the men, and a trace of anger flashed in his eyes. He felt that he had already shown enough concessions, but he didn’t expect the other party to be so unreasonable.
