    Chapter 15 Departure, Departure

Jiang Xianchuan observed the zombies downstairs from the window. Perhaps because they hadn’t eaten fresh human flesh for too long, many of the corpses were quite decayed.

“We’ll go out through the back door in a bit. I’ll go first, Shi Yi, you’re in the middle, and Li Lingyu, you bring up the rear.”

The two nodded. Then, Jiang Xianchuan pointed at the map, “To take a shortcut to Yuanshan Residential Area, we need to go through the mall, but the mall has a large flow of people, so there might be many zombies. So, we’ll detour through this Vegetable Market and then return the same way.”

After sorting out the route, Jiang Xianchuan checked the entrance through the Surveillance Camera. After confirming that no zombies were wandering in the corridor, he opened the door and walked out. Then, Shi Yi and Li Lingyu followed.

Jiang Xianchuan gently closed the door, trying not to make any noise. He leaned against the wall and carefully walked downstairs. He arrived at the entrance of the unit and looked at the few zombies standing outside the door. He took out a soda can from his backpack and threw it out.

The few highly decayed zombies heard the sound and wobbled towards the direction of the soda can. The three also seized the opportunity to leave the building and headed towards the back door of the residential area.

Despite being very careful, they were still discovered by a few zombies. Jiang Xianchuan waved the fruit knife in his hand, quickly taking care of the approaching zombies.

Li Lingyu quickly stabbed the zombies’ eyes, and then kicked the zombies’ heads hard. Shi Yi frowned beside him, smashing the zombies’ heads with a crowbar. “Ew, how disgusting.”

Just like that, the three carefully arrived at the back door. Many cars were parked on the road, and these vehicles happened to provide a barrier to shield their bodies.

They hid behind the cars, closely observing the surrounding situation to ensure they were not discovered by zombies.

Jiang Xianchuan took the lead and squeezed into the gap between two cars, with Shi Yi and Li Lingyu following closely behind.

They followed the car bodies, moving forward step by step. After walking for an unknown amount of time, they finally arrived at the entrance of the Vegetable Market.

The market was filled with a rotten smell, and the ground was covered with rotten vegetable leaves and bloodstains. In the distance, some zombies were wandering aimlessly.

The three looked at each other and tacitly kept silent. Jiang Xianchuan signaled for him to take action, then quietly approached a lone zombie, suddenly leaped up, and stabbed the zombie’s head with a knife. The zombie instantly fell to the ground.

The three continued to move forward. More and more zombies appeared in front of them, roaring, but fortunately, Jiang Xianchuan and Li Lingyu cooperated well, constantly eliminating the approaching zombies.

Finally, they arrived at the exit of the Vegetable Market. Jiang Xianchuan gasped for breath, looking at the empty street outside, and felt a slight relief in his heart.

However, just then, a roar came from not far away, and zombies poured out like a tide.

“Run!” Jiang Xianchuan immediately took the lead and ran, but strangely, a few zombies were surprisingly fast, managing to leave the zombies behind them.

Jiang Xianchuan led the two into a hotel, kicked open a room door, and immediately pulled the two into the room, then dragged the cabinet over to block the door.

Listening to the zombies outside frantically banging on the door, Jiang Xianchuan sat on the ground, feeling a little exhausted, gasping for breath. Large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, soaking his clothes.

The thrilling escape just now made his heart beat faster and his breathing quickened. If he had been a second later, he might have become food for those terrible creatures.

“No one told me that zombies’ speed would evolve like this.” Jiang Xianchuan was a little collapse.

“What do we do now?” Shi Yi asked anxiously.

“We can only wait a little longer. We can only go out after they disperse,” Jiang Xianchuan replied.

The three remained silent, the atmosphere tense and oppressive. Time passed by, and every impact from the zombies made their nerves extremely tense. Jiang Xianchuan tightly gripped the weapon in his hand, ready to deal with emergencies at any time.

After an unknown amount of time, the sounds outside the door gradually weakened until they disappeared completely.

Jiang Xianchuan carefully approached the door, observed the situation outside through the crack in the door, and after confirming that most of the zombies had dispersed, he gently opened the door and cautiously walked out of the room.
