Chapter 1: Could I Also Be Reborn?

Perhaps Jiang Xianchuan never imagined that rebirth could happen to him. The story begins a few hours earlier.

“Our food can only last for two days.”

“I know, but we’re surrounded by zombies, as you’ve seen.”

Jiang Xianchuan stood by the window, lifting a corner of the curtain. The zombies downstairs were densely packed together.

He had originally planned to go out with Shi Yi to find some supplies, but they were chased by several mutated zombies along the way and ended up hiding in this residential building.

“How about we wait and see today? If the zombies thin out a bit tomorrow, we’ll leave.”

    “Okay.”

Fortunately, the two were lucky. The zombies at the entrance did thin out considerably. After preparing their equipment, they cautiously opened the door, conveniently dispatching a few zombies in the hallway and heading downstairs.

But out of nowhere, a drone flew in and started playing music in the air. The zombies were attracted by the music and gathered together again. Jiang Xianchuan felt like killing someone at that moment.

So he pulled Shi Yi aside to hide, hoping the zombies wouldn’t find them.

Unexpectedly, the drone noticed them. It quickly flew towards Jiang Xianchuan’s hiding place. Realizing something was wrong, Jiang Xianchuan immediately got up, grabbed Shi Yi, and ran, mentally cursing the drone’s owner’s entire family tree.

“You climb over the wall first, I’ll buy some time!”

Jiang Xianchuan held a fruit knife and stabbed at the zombies in front of him. After Shi Yi climbed over, she immediately went to the side, making noises to attract the zombies’ attention.

But all of this was futile. The music from the drone was too loud; the zombies didn’t respond to Shi Yi’s sounds at all.

After taking care of the closest zombies, Jiang Xianchuan immediately climbed onto the wall, but several zombies grabbed his ankles. After kicking them for over a dozen times, he finally broke free.

The two didn’t know how long they ran. When they reached a place with fewer zombies, Jiang Xianchuan faintly sensed something was wrong. He lifted his trouser leg and saw that he had been scratched.

“One good news, one bad news, which one do you want to hear first?”

    “The good news, I guess.”

“The good news is we both escaped.”

    “What’s the bad news?”

    “I got scratched.”

Upon hearing this, Shi Yi’s face was filled with disbelief, but when she squatted down and saw the scratch marks on Jiang Xianchuan’s ankle, she immediately sat down on the ground.

    “How’s that for bad news?”

Seeing Jiang Xianchuan acting as annoying as usual, if she hadn’t seen the wound herself, she would have thought Jiang Xianchuan was just being crazy.

Shi Yi opened her mouth but didn’t say anything. She didn’t know what to say; it all seemed futile now. After surviving in the apocalypse for so long, everyone knew that being scratched or bitten by a zombie would lead to Corpse Transformation.

“No need to say anything else.” Jiang Xianchuan rummaged through his backpack and handed his supplies to her. “It’s like different industries are worlds apart. I wish you success.”

With that, Jiang Xianchuan stood up, preparing to leave. It would be a lie to say he wasn’t afraid of being bitten by a zombie, but thinking about how long he had survived in this apocalypse, he was already tired. Getting bitten might be a good thing.

The memory ended, Jiang Xianchuan was a bit speechless, “Damn! That drone guy is sick.”

Then he opened his phone and looked at the current date, June 15th, XX year, 15 days before the apocalypse. Regardless, he should call Shi Yi first.
