Chapter Index

    Failure

    Woof!!!

Qiao Yi opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was Heipa’s thin, small figure. He was currently biting down hard on the hyena’s neck. Red blood flowed out, soaking the fur of both the cat and the hyena.

    Heipa!

Qiao Yi cried out in alarm. He had not expected Heipa to charge straight in and bite the hyena. He stepped forward a few paces, wanting to pull Heipa back, terrified that the hyena would go into a frenzy and kill him.

Fortunately, the hyena seemed to have underestimated its opponent. It was completely off guard and never expected a cat to have the courage to attack it. Caught unaware, its fatal spot on the neck was actually bitten by the black cat.

After a miserable shriek, accompanied by the flow of warm blood, the hyena collapsed to the ground with a thud. It twitched a few times and then stopped moving. It did not even have time to close its eyes; the disdain, contempt, and greedy gluttony on its face had not even faded before it died.

Once he was certain the hyena was dead and no longer a threat to Qiao Yi, Heipa finally released his grip and stepped back. However, his bristled fur did not smooth down, and his eyes remained alert. He bared his teeth and arched his back, standing in front of Qiao Yi to block the people at the alley entrance, staring at them fiercely as if he would jump over and bite them to death if they made another move.

The people standing at the alley entrance watched helplessly as the hyena they had carefully raised on fresh blood and tender meat died before their eyes. The entire process had taken less than fifteen minutes.

    Heh!

Hearing Qin Chi’s dark laughter, everyone held their breath, no one daring to speak. Even the person who had been arrogant at the start and suggested letting the hyena into the alley did not dare look up at the man beside him, fearing that Qin Chi’s rage would focus on him in the next moment.

No matter what method you use, drag him out. Be careful not to kill him. There are still Liezong’s brothers back at the mansion who have not been fed today; they love eating fresh, tender meat the most, Qin Chi’s sinister and ruthless voice rang out. Bring back the person who sent the message to the mansion as well. Liezong is dead; we cannot let him die for nothing.

    Everyone lowered their heads. Yes.

And that cat… bring it back as well. Since Liezong is gone, we need something to take his place.

After saying that, the man turned and left, seemingly furious beyond measure.

Qiao Yi quickly picked up Heipa, his eyes fixed warily on the people ahead. His body instinctively took a defensive stance. Even if he died, he would not let these people take Heipa away.

The alley was narrow, so the people outside could not get in for the moment. Qiao Yi looked up at the surrounding walls, trying to find a second exit. But this alley was merely a gap between two houses; not only was the end a dead turn, but the high walls on both sides left no other way out except the entrance.

Qiao Yi knew that he had no choice now but to charge out through the alley entrance.

Although he did not know why he was being cornered or who they were, these people clearly harbored ill intent. From their words, they would not stop until he was dead, let alone the fact that Heipa had killed their hyena.

Qiao Yi had no choice but to run.

With his nerves highly strung, Qiao Yi’s eyes were locked onto the group blocking the alley, trying to find an opportunity to burst through a gap.

The men were still discussing something in low voices, occasionally looking back at Qiao Yi in the alley to make sure he was still there.

After a long while, once the men at the entrance finally finished their discussion, one of them prepared to turn and leave. A gap seemed to appear at the entrance.

Qiao Yi silently counted in his heart, his body adjusting its posture, preparing to rush out the moment that man left.

Success or failure depended on this one move. If he managed to escape, he would start his new life properly. If he did not…

Then dying once was death, and dying twice was also death. He would just act as if he had never been here.

    Three, two, one…

    Charge!

Qiao Yi lowered his head and ran forward with all his might while clutching Heipa. He moved incredibly fast, crashing forward like a mad bull.

Before the men guarding the alley could react, Qiao Yi had already knocked someone flying.

    Literally knocked them flying.

Never expecting that Qiao Yi, who had been huddled in the alley, would suddenly bolt out, the men at the entrance were caught off guard. Two who were standing close were hit by Qiao Yi’s full-force sprint like a bull’s charge; they actually flew up and landed hard on their backsides.

Before the others could react, Qiao Yi had already run quite a distance.

Quick, quick, quick! Catch him! After recovering, the men quickly gave chase.

As they chased, they wondered if Qiao Yi had been scared witless or if something was wrong with his head.

Is there something wrong with this kid’s brain? He actually ran out on his own.

Who knows? Maybe he knows he is going to die anyway and wanted to save us the trouble of going in.

True. It saves us from having to tear down the wall.

At the end of the day, Qiao Yi was only a ten-year-old child. He was hungry, tired, and had been pushing himself to run for so long.

No matter how strong his explosive power was, he was ultimately no match for several strong young men. Qiao Yi was eventually caught.

But right before he was seized, Qiao Yi threw Heipa out with one hand.

Meow. Heipa wanted to turn back.

Qiao Yi barked a command, Go! One death is enough, don’t give them a double kill!

The people behind had already caught up.

Qiao Yi was firm, and Heipa could only give him one last look before disappearing in a few bounds.

The footsteps behind grew closer, but the black cat’s figure grew more distant.

Qiao Yi finally breathed a sigh of relief. Not bad, this cat was not stupid; it could understand human speech and was much smarter than the teammates he used to encounter when playing games.

In the end, Qiao Yi was knocked unconscious and taken away.
