    Chapter 46

Watching the elegant man calmly and gently stroking an unfamiliar rabbit, a strange fire ignited in Bai Zhi’s heart.

    It flared up uncontrollably.

He directly grabbed Xie Yuzhan’s wrist, pulling the other man’s hand away from the dwarf rabbit’s head. Meeting Xie Yuzhan’s questioning gaze, he pursed his lips and said, “You’re not allowed to pet other bunnies. This is, this is marital infidelity!”

Xie Yuzhan paused, then quickly understood.

A smile suddenly flickered in his eyes. He lowered his voice slightly and asked, “Is Zhizhi jealous?”

Bai Zhi gritted his teeth, glared again at the docile, cute, attention-seeking pet rabbits, and then looked at Xie Yuzhan, nodding seriously. “Isn’t petting me enough? Why do you need to provoke other bunnies?”

Xie Yuzhan’s mood could no longer be described by the simple word “good.” If he were at a negotiation table, he would be very willing to concede some benefits to his partner.

    Not allowed?

This wasn’t a command; it was a very sweet, veiled confession—words of love.

He reversed his grip on Bai Zhi’s hand, leaned in slightly, and asked with a smile, “So, Zhizhi admits he’s a little rabbit?”

Hearing this, Bai Zhi suddenly regained some clarity. Well… even if he admitted it, Xie Yuzhan wouldn’t believe he was truly a rabbit inside; he’d definitely think Bai Zhi was just talking nonsense.

    Just being spoiled and clingy.

So, admitting it didn’t matter, as long as he achieved his goal.

He continued to nod, asserting, “Exactly! Therefore, in a marriage, you must be devoted. We both have responsibilities in this marriage. I won’t provoke others, and you can’t provoke other bunnies!

“And you definitely can’t like other bunnies!

“Responsibility is mutual. Don’t just use it to restrict me; you have to fulfill your part too.”

Yes, that’s right. These were things legal spouses should pay attention to. Xie Yuzhan couldn’t violate the fundamental fairness of their marriage of convenience just because he was richer and had higher social status.

They were an equal exchange of interests.

Xie Yuzhan couldn’t help but chuckle. To express jealousy so refreshingly and uniquely, truly worthy of his clever little rabbit.

He readily agreed, “Of course. I will only like you, this one little rabbit. Those outside—all of them—don’t catch my eye. Don’t worry, I promise to avoid all other little rabbits and keep my distance from now on.

“I’ll only pet our Zhizhi-rabbit, okay?”

Bai Zhi responded with a muffled hum, the fire in his heart finally subsiding. He pulled his hand free, crossed his arms, and said, “That’s more like it.”

It was naturally still lacking; it wasn’t enough yet. Xie Yuzhan put his arm around Bai Zhi’s shoulder and led him to a blind spot near the exhibition stand’s surveillance cameras. His lowered voice carried a pleasant yet restrained laugh. “Then, Zhizhi, do you want a petting now?”

Bai Zhi lowered his eyes. He hadn’t really thought about it, but he raised his hand and lightly pinched Xie Yuzhan’s jacket. “Yes.”

After speaking, he quickly glanced at the other man, then looked away again. Heavens, why did he feel like Mr. Wolf’s gaze was much gentler when looking at him than when looking at that dwarf rabbit?

It was a completely different feeling.

Perhaps they were standing too close, or perhaps the central air conditioning in the venue was too diligent, but he suddenly felt a little warm. He subconsciously licked his lips and repeated, “I want it now.”

And Xie Yuzhan couldn’t refuse, nor did he want to.

    Such an adorable request.

He rubbed Bai Zhi’s head. The fine, soft strands of hair rubbed between his fingers, and the subtle sensation made colorful bubbles constantly pop up in his heart—light and satisfying.

He rubbed and rubbed until the person being petted comfortably couldn’t help but let out two soft hums. Only then did he stop.

His hand moved down to stroke Bai Zhi’s cheek, making the downcast man look him in the eye. When he did, he saw that the little rabbit’s eyes were red, and his cheeks and ears were flushed, burning like soft sunset clouds.

He leaned closer, his voice very low and soft, asking, “Do you like it?”

Bai Zhi shivered slightly. “I like it… it feels very comfortable…”

Xie Yuzhan admitted he was thoroughly pleased by Bai Zhi’s trembling, soft voice. The little rabbit was slow in some areas, but he seemed to have an innate talent.

He knew exactly how to tug at heartstrings.

And he was definitely susceptible to this tactic. He was helpless, truly helpless.

He tilted his head slightly and leaned close to Bai Zhi’s ear, gently blowing a puff of air onto the earlobe. He was satisfied to see the little rabbit’s eyelashes flutter—a reaction of being slightly startled but not disliking or rejecting it.

He whispered, “Do you want a kiss on the little rabbit’s ear? No other bunny gets this treatment. It’s just for you, only you have it. It’s like stamping you—you’ll be a rabbit with an owner.”

Bai Zhi bit his lip. He didn’t really want to agree.

Pikas only belonged to the grassland, not to any person. What was this about being stamped and having an owner? No way. But… but maybe having an owner before the divorce wasn’t so bad?

    Marriage-limited.

And only he, this one rabbit, would have this stamp. Honestly, he was tempted by the promise. He might as well trust Mr. Wolf for now.

Thinking this, he agreed, “Fine, but you have to keep your word.”

    “Of course.”

As the words fell, Xie Yuzhan’s kiss landed lightly and carefully on Bai Zhi’s earlobe. It was scorching hot; it felt like the little rabbit was about to catch fire.

Bai Zhi’s eyelashes trembled. Fortunately, he bit his lip in time, swallowing the soft gasp that had reached his mouth.

They were still outside, after all.

This kiss… was strange. A tingling, numbing sensation spread from his earlobe, running all the way into his heart and mind, making his entire rabbit self feel dizzy.

He leaned back against the display shelf behind him, catching his breath.

Xie Yuzhan stopped there, just pressing his cheek against Bai Zhi’s. He dared not tease the little rabbit too much.

He pulled Bai Zhi into his arms, stroking his back rhythmically, coaxing him. “The forecast says heavy snow today. The ground temperature is low, so the snow should accumulate quickly. After dinner, do you want to play in the snow?

“The entire lawn in the backyard will be yours.”

Bai Zhi blinked, his mind slowly returning to normal function.

He rubbed his cheek against Xie Yuzhan’s neck, then pulled out of his embrace, his eyes sparkling. He replied, “Yes! This will be the first time I’ve played in the snow.

“I was strictly controlled when I was in the Bai family, and I never had the inclination.”

It did snow on the grassland, but for a pika, snow meant a harsher survival environment, especially when food stores were low. Although he was diligent and lucky enough to store enough grass for the winter, playing in the snow was never on his to-do list.

After all, there were always predators lurking, searching for food.

Xie Yuzhan smoothed Bai Zhi’s hair. As they walked out together, no matter how many times he thought about it, he felt pity for the years Bai Zhi spent in the Bai family. Fortunately, those years were over.

The future would only be better.

He comforted him, “You can play freely today.”

    “Mhm!”

Bai Zhi agreed. After they stepped out from the side, he raised his chin toward the dwarf rabbit whose head Xie Yuzhan had petted, whispering a little boastfully, “I got a kiss, and you didn’t!”

Xie Yuzhan couldn’t help but laugh. His darling, competing with a little rabbit, was even cuter.

He loved Bai Zhi’s unconscious, unacknowledged possessiveness and was willing to indulge it. The fact that Bai Zhi could say what he did today was a huge step forward.

Everything he did was getting a response.

This was excellent. Step by step, as long as the quantitative changes accumulated enough, a qualitative change would eventually be achieved. He wanted Bai Zhi to no longer fear him, to be able to bravely reveal this affection.

Coming out of the exhibition hall, the snow had already accumulated in a thin layer.

Bai Zhi couldn’t resist brushing some snow off a blade of grass. It was icy cold, but this didn’t dampen his enthusiasm. However, even after dinner, the snow hadn’t gotten heavy enough to build a snowman.

He stood inside the glass door on the first floor of the backyard, looking out at the falling snowflakes illuminated by the lights. He was quite disappointed. It looked like playing wasn’t going to happen today.

Hearing the unhurried footsteps behind him, he knew who it was without looking. He said, “This little bit of snow definitely isn’t enough for a snowman. I want to build a big one.”

Xie Yuzhan brought a scarf, hat, and gloves, fully equipping Bai Zhi. “The snow will get heavy tonight. It should be fine tomorrow morning. As for now, Zhizhi, how about we make a snow-rabbit first?”

Bai Zhi thought for a moment, and his eyes instantly lit up. “That works!”

A little play to satisfy his craving.

The backyard, untouched by footsteps, was covered in pristine white snow. Looking out, it resembled fluffed cotton wool, a blessing for anyone with OCD, and very beautiful.

The snow was still falling. He quickly rolled a small snowball the size of his palm, then looked at Xie Yuzhan and asked, “How do we make the ears and tail?”

Xie Yuzhan pinched a mini snowball the size of a blueberry, selected a tough, old blade of grass from the lawn, inserted it into the snowball, and then attached it to the back of the larger snowball Bai Zhi was holding.

Next, he gestured toward the grass under their feet. “Just pick the grass blades you like to be the little rabbit’s long ears.”

    “Okay!”

Bai Zhi squatted on the grass, rummaging for blades. He selected two perfect ears for the snow-rabbit, picked up two small pebbles for eyes, and tore a few thin strands of grass to shape the rabbit’s tripartite mouth.

After finishing, he examined it closely, then looked at Xie Yuzhan, who had also squatted down, and smiled. “It’s very cute~”

Xie Yuzhan brushed the snow dust from Bai Zhi’s forehead. “But the cutest little rabbit is always only one.”

Bai Zhi pursed his lips and smiled. Although Xie Yuzhan wouldn’t believe he was truly a little rabbit, such praise from the other man truly touched his soul.

    He was quite happy.

In a wonderful mood, he took a photo of the snow-rabbit and shared it on his Moments, then reluctantly placed the rabbit under the porch—the only drawback was that he couldn’t bring it into the warm indoors.

Entering the door, he shook the snow off his body, stomped his feet, and removed his scarf, hat, and gloves. Before he could curl his frozen hands up to his mouth to blow warm air on them, they were grasped by another pair of warm hands.

He looked up, frowning. “That’s not fair! We spent the same amount of time outside, how are you still so warm!”

Xie Yuzhan held Bai Zhi’s icy hands, warming them carefully. He said leisurely, “If you increase your exercise from twice a week for thirty minutes each time to at least five times, you can be too.”

Bai Zhi pouted, then smiled, giving a wink. “Not necessary for now. We’ll talk about it later.”

Why bother exhausting himself with exercise when he could enjoy Mr. Wolf’s paw-warming service? Twice a week was already the result of the rabbit’s hard work.

He preferred running freely on the grass to exercising indoors.

Xie Yuzhan understood what Bai Zhi meant by “for now.” It didn’t matter; “for now” was only temporary. It would eventually become forever, and he was happy to keep doing this.

Lin Haiyan brought a cup of hot cocoa. Bai Zhi held the ceramic mug with both hands and went upstairs with Xie Yuzhan.

They stopped by the window in the second-floor leisure area. He looked out at the goose-feather snow falling across the sky, took a sip of the rich hot cocoa, and his voice lifted with anticipation. “The snow is getting heavy~”

Xie Yuzhan gazed at Bai Zhi’s sparkling eyes, his own filled with a gentle, indulgent smile. “Shall I wake you up tomorrow morning? We can definitely build a snowman. How about ten o’clock? Snowy days are perfect for sleeping in.”

    “Aren’t you going to work?”

Xie Yuzhan gave his little rabbit a hug, then released him and gently pinched his nose, shaking it slightly. “My dear Zhizhi darling, this year’s work is basically done. These two days are just wrapping up. I’m not busy. As a CEO who gave his employees a ‘snow day,’ should I still go to work all alone?”

Bai Zhi couldn’t help but laugh. “Of course not! That would be too miserable!”

He was just a little surprised.

Xie Yuzhan didn’t seem like the type to casually give employees time off without a plan; it didn’t fit his slightly obsessive-compulsive persona. But he had to admit, he found the occasionally liberal CEO Xie…

    Very cute.

If he had a boss who said, “Day off tomorrow, go play in the snow,” when it snowed, he would feel incredibly lucky. Following such a person would definitely be reliable.

He pulled his thoughts back, tilted his head, and smiled. “Then see you tomorrow morning, Yuzhan Gege. Good night.”

Xie Yuzhan hadn’t intended to do anything else, but Bai Zhi’s soft tone when calling him Gege was too enticing.

He gently cupped the back of the little rabbit’s neck and kissed his forehead. “Alright, see you tomorrow morning. Good night.”

Bai Zhi touched his forehead and nodded obediently. He was still thinking about building a snowman tomorrow, so he definitely needed to sleep early!

    However.

He managed to go to bed early, but he wasn’t equally quick to wake up.

Even though it was already ten o’clock.

When he was woken by Xie Yuzhan’s slow, highly recognizable voice, he blinked blankly, frowned slightly, and mumbled softly, “No, Gege, don’t be noisy. I want to sleep a little longer…”

Xie Yuzhan sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the half-asleep Bai Zhi, and fell silent.

Bai Zhi’s sleeping posture wasn’t neat; his tea-brown short hair was tousled. His honey-brown eyes were watery, like a rippling spring pond. His moderately thick lips were slightly parted, a moist pink, and his cheeks were faintly flushed from sleep.

    Today’s little cake was strawberry-filled.

And drizzled with perfectly simmered honey syrup.

His expression was peaceful and completely unguarded, tempting one to taste what the cake was like. Even though Xie Yuzhan didn’t favor sweets, it was hard to resist such temptation.

A plump, round, and lustrous red apple was placed right on the bedside.

He raised his arm and leaned closer, placing his hand beside Bai Zhi’s pillow. The other man merely blinked in confusion, even giving him a clean, flawless, and unguarded smile.

The purer it was, the more alluring.
