    Chapter Ten

Bai Zhi was a little stumped by the question.

When he transmigrated, the original owner was probably, possibly, most likely already gone. He had fallen headfirst down the stairs. Judging by the soreness of the body, he must have lain there for several hours, yet miraculously, he was completely unharmed.

And no one knew about this small accident.

From the original owner to him, he was an invisible, dispensable person in the Bai family. No one cared, no one paid attention. He had been neglected for so many years. If it weren’t for his undeniably good looks, which could still be sold for some profit, he might have been sent away long ago.

His current personality and way of handling things had changed drastically. He didn’t want to pretend to be the original owner’s weak, easily manipulated self.

He could endure, but he couldn’t be spineless and cowardly.

He genuinely hadn’t had an experience that would cause such a dramatic shift in personality, so it was understandable that he was being suspected. The fact that Xie Yuzhan was only asking now made him wonder what the Wolf Lord was thinking.

Couldn’t he just let him gloss over it? Why care about this kind of thing?

Under the Wolf Lord’s concerned, inquiring gaze, he nervously swallowed, trying to explain, “Well… rumors aren’t reliable, right? There must be a big difference between the person everyone thinks I am and the real me.”

Xie Yuzhan didn’t buy it. “People have many facets, but the underlying logic doesn’t change that much.”

    Bai Zhi was momentarily speechless.

His little brain was spinning frantically, but he still couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation. Should he just bolt first? Discuss it later?

But the moment he lifted his heel, Xie Yuzhan reached out and pressed his hand down beside him. Bai Zhi frowned. Believe it or not, the bunny is going to cry! How could he, a bunny, be more perceptive than a wolf!

Xie Yuzhan leaned closer, his voice laced with a smile, clearly meant to be reassuring. “Don’t be nervous. I’m just curious. It’s okay if you really don’t know how to explain it.”

    Not nervous? Impossible!

Bai Zhi slowly took a deep breath, his eyelashes fluttering, but he tried hard to look directly at the person in front of him.

Xie Yuzhan was backlit, his face half-hidden in deep and shallow shadows, giving him an unfathomable feeling. Bai Zhi felt completely unsure.

He pursed his lips. His brain was working so fast it felt like it was about to spark!

    Wait a minute…

Pika Pika Pika! As expected of the guardian god of the Pika Bunny, inspiration struck in the nick of time.

He steadied himself, trying to appear as sincere and believable as possible. He said, “It’s just… growing up is actually something that happens in an instant. Getting married, such a huge event, was a massive change for me. I suddenly matured and became sensible.”

After speaking, he nodded, fully convinced by his own explanation, and emphasized, “Yes, that’s right, that’s exactly it.”

Truly worthy of being a brave bunny who has fought wits with various natural predators throughout its entire rabbit life!

    He excelled at quick thinking.

After hearing this, Xie Yuzhan couldn’t help but chuckle softly. This little bunny was indeed adorable without realizing it.

He didn’t believe a single word of such a clumsy lie; it was as good as saying nothing. But the effect… was there.

    He accepted it.

After a moment of silence, he rubbed the soft, fluffy little bunny again. “Since you put it that way, I’ll believe your explanation. If anyone else asks a similar question in the future…”

Bai Zhi looked up, their thoughts briefly aligning. He finished, “I’ll say the exact same thing!”

Thank you, Wolf Lord. He finally found a universal answer. If he stuck to this, even if others didn’t believe him, they wouldn’t find any flaws. Who could possibly imagine that the soul inside this body was a tiny pika from the grasslands?

It would take a huge amount of imagination to guess the truth.

Xie Yuzhan stopped there. He released his hand and stepped back half a pace. “Very good. It’s late. Go to sleep.”

Bai Zhi acknowledged him, quickly said good night, and scurried downstairs.

He patted his chest. Tonight was truly a close call, but he gained a lot from this exchange. Not only did he get an answer, but he also resolved a potential issue that could easily arouse suspicion. Two birds with one stone.

    Now he could sleep soundly.

Xie Yuzhan watched Bai Zhi’s retreating figure. The hopping and skipping was incredibly lively, truly resembling a little bunny. There was already so much unresolvable deadness in life; it was nice to come home and see such a vibrant cohabitant.

His uncle’s move, in a way, was a happy accident.

With that episode behind him, Bai Zhi didn’t dwell on it. After a good night’s sleep, he started setting up his online shop.

While following the platform procedures for registration and application, he contacted the people who had previously sent him flowers and plants. In addition, he hired an assistant to help him manage the shop and handle miscellaneous tasks. They had a remote video chat and were both quite satisfied.

He really liked the assistant’s name, Hu Yanglin (Poplar Forest), which sounded full of vitality.

The assistant could work from home, but could come to the Xie residence if necessary. Of course, he had reported this to Xie Yuzhan, who said it was fine, as long as their identities weren’t leaked.

Lately, he and Lu Qinghe had become closer and closer. This was the first friend he had made, and they clicked well. Lu Qinghe sometimes came to visit him and could even chat with the assistant if they ran into each other.

As for his live stream, it maintained its previous style even after the shop was up and running.

He didn’t show his face; only his voice and his hands holding plants appeared. The content mainly consisted of eating, drinking, and chatting, and he surprisingly accumulated a group of fans this way.

He was a bit bewildered, unsure what the fans were tuning in for, but Lu Qinghe said he had the capital for it.

His laid-back style was unique in the streaming world. He also had a heavenly voice and hands more delicate and attractive than a hand model’s. He captured both voice-lovers and hand-lovers. Regardless of whether they were interested in flowers and plants, people were willing to spend time watching.

Lu Qinghe also said that his core appeal was his style, and the intangible…

    Personal charisma.

She said that plants and greenery could heal the heart and help soothe anxiety. People nowadays generally suffered from high work pressure and severe internal exhaustion. Watching his stream allowed the scent of flowers and plants to replace the deadness or hostility of the workplace. Viewers felt healed by the plants and his conversation, enjoying a sense of relaxation that other streams couldn’t offer.

It was the fresh freedom of nature.

He understood this. When he chatted with Xie Yuzhan during dinner, he couldn’t help but sigh, “Little grasses and flowers are so magical.

“They look soft and weak, not as straight and lush as trees, but they grow slowly and steadily, full of life and vitality. I really love cuddling with the grasses; it’s very comforting.”

Xie Yuzhan agreed. “Actually, you are the same way.”

Like the flowers and grasses on the prairie, he might panic when facing wind and rain, but once the clouds cleared and the rain stopped, he quickly found his rhythm again and struggled to live on.

    Resilient enough, and extremely vital.

Bai Zhi took a big bite of the fried Snow Lotus flower. The fresh, slightly sweet, and crispy texture was completely different from eating it raw—a different kind of deliciousness.

Satisfied, he ate another piece of fried flower and said, “I’ll take that as a compliment.”

As someone whose soul was a pika, of course he was full of vitality. After all, he was a little furball raised on the grasslands, naturally possessing some of the prairie’s traits: resilience and freedom.

Like a wild weed, he could struggle to survive no matter where he landed.

Looking at the slightly proud Bai Zhi, Xie Yuzhan’s expression softened. He could understand why netizens said that listening to Bai Zhi talk was healing, especially when they could see him—the healing power doubled.

He truly lived up to his reputation as the famous little flower vase in the circle. He was genuinely pleasing to the eye, with delicate features and a lively demeanor.

    Very appetizing.

He asked, “You seem happy doing the live stream. Keep doing it, but as your fan base grows, the noise will increase. Just treat some people’s words as wind passing by your ears.”

Bai Zhi nodded, knowing what Xie Yuzhan was referring to. There were already signs of it; some individuals were quite hostile and constantly looked for trouble.

He said frankly, “I don’t pay much attention to that. I just focus on doing my own thing, and the rest is up to fate.

“I can’t control what others think. Maybe they’ve encountered some setbacks or disappointments in life, and if they want to vent in my stream, let them. As long as it’s not too extreme, I’ll consider it accumulating good karma.”

    “You have a good attitude.”

    “Of course~”

Bai Zhi smiled. On the grasslands, he ran races with predators every day and sometimes competed with his own kind and other herbivores for the flowers and grasses they needed to survive. Even when he tried hard, he didn’t always come out on top, so he had trained himself to have a good mindset.

As long as he was alive, he had better opportunities.

Xie Yuzhan was amused by Bai Zhi’s lively expression, but quickly composed himself. He asked casually, “Most people really like you, which is rare. I heard Aunt Lin say they gave you a nickname, calling you our ‘Bunny Shopkeeper’—

    “Tutu?”

    Huh? Ah? What?

Bai Zhi’s chopsticks trembled, and the last piece of Snow Lotus flower gently floated onto his plate. His ears tingled, as if he’d been electrocuted!

He had mentioned this term to Lin Haiyan, but hearing the two repeated syllables from Xie Yuzhan’s mouth had a greater impact than even “Zhizhi”!

    Tutu, Tutu!

He suddenly understood what voice-lovers meant when they said his voice made their whole body melt.

His heart felt tingly and numb—it was deadly!
