Chapter 96: The Eunuch Little Young Master

Bang bang bang, Little Song Shi was eating with Qing ge when there was a loud knocking sound at the door. Little Song Shi glared at her man irritably, “Why aren’t you going to open the door?”

The man, “Why don’t you go?”

“I just wanted to say a few words to our son.”

The man looked at his wife and son, hunched his back, and got up to open the door.

There were several villagers knocking. As soon as the door opened, Little Song Shi’s husband was pushed to the ground. Before he could figure out what was happening, someone yelled, “Where is Little Song Shi? Tell her to come out and return Master Yan’s money!”

“That’s right, hurry up and give the money back so we can sell our grain!”

The noise outside wasn’t small. As soon as the door opened, everyone inside heard it.

Qing ge didn’t know what was happening and asked his mother, “Mom, what’s going on? Why is everyone here?”

Little Song Shi turned away guiltily and explained the situation to him in a few words, not forgetting to curse her other ge, “If it weren’t for that jinx, how would I have hit that Master Yan? It’s all that jinx’s fault! Why didn’t he just die in the palace? What did he come back for?”

Song Qing listened silently as his mother finished cursing, and the same thought arose in his heart. Why didn’t Yi ge just die in the palace? As long as he died, the fortune teller’s words back then would have applied to him, not Song Yi.

He then thought of the man he saw on his wedding day, and a strange feeling grew in his heart. “Mom, that Master Yan shouldn’t be someone who doesn’t distinguish right from wrong. How about I go and explain things to him?”

    “You go? Is that useful?”

“How would we know if it’s not useful if I don’t go? Mom, you go and appease those villagers first. After I explain everything to Master Yan, he will buy everyone’s grain.”

Little Song Shi saw her ge speak with such certainty and believed her, then walked out of the room.

Soon after, the crowd’s voices came in, “Okay, we’ll give your family one more day. If Master Yan still doesn’t buy our grain, then Little Song Shi, don’t even think about having a good life.”

With the threats made, everyone dispersed.

This time, Song Qing returned to his maternal home alone with a maid. His man was unwilling to acknowledge the rural bumpkins as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, so he only sent a maid back with Song Qing.

Changing into the clothes he brought back this time, Song Qing looked at himself in the bronze mirror with satisfaction. He didn’t believe that Master Yan wouldn’t be tempted when he saw him.

He heard that Master Yan was from the county town, and Song Qing regretted not meeting him earlier. If he had known Master Yan, he wouldn’t have wronged himself by marrying an old man as a secondary wife.

The heavy door knocker was struck, making a sound. The old servant sweeping the courtyard put down his broom and went to open the door.

    “Who are you?”

Song Qing had already expected that the person opening the door wouldn’t be Master Yan. Seeing it was a servant, his smile was somewhat arrogant, “Is Master Yan home?”

The old servant didn’t answer, just blocked the doorway and looked at this strange ge.

What kind of ge is so bold as to dare to come to a man’s door alone and ask if he’s home? It wouldn’t be good for anyone’s reputation if this got out.

“I am Qing ge from the Song family at the village entrance. I’ve come today to apologize to Master Yan on behalf of my mother.”

When Song Qing ge said this, the old servant immediately remembered who this ge in front of him was. “Since you’re here to apologize for your mother, did you bring the silver?”

    Silver? Song Qing’s smile froze.

“You didn’t bring the silver? So you just want to say a couple of words of apology and that’s it? If that’s the case, then please leave, Master Song.” The old servant unceremoniously began to drive him away.

Song Qing felt his face lose color and was embarrassed. “You’re just a servant guarding the courtyard. How can you drive away a guest instead of announcing them? Aren’t you afraid Master Yan will find out and blame you?”

Although Song Qing married an old man, the old man’s family also had servants for him to order around. To be treated with such disrespect by a servant guarding the courtyard today, the anger in his heart flared up instantly.

The old servant didn’t take his words to heart. Their young master rarely got angry with servants and wouldn’t unreasonably blame a servant for dealing with someone unreasonable.

However, there was some truth in this person’s words. The old servant partially closed the door and said in a lukewarm tone, “Then please wait a moment. I will go and inform my young master.”

After speaking, he closed the door tightly in front of Song Qing, afraid that this young master might suddenly barge in and ruin his young master’s reputation.

In the study, Yan Ye was settling the accounts for the shops that the original owner’s father had given him to manage. Song Yi was beside him, using a brush to keep the accounts for him. In the quiet room, there was only the sound of abacus beads clicking. Outside the door, the old servant’s voice was heard.

“Young Master, a young master has come from outside, saying he wants to see you.”

Yan Ye stopped his movements, slowly raised his head, and noticed that the little ge beside him also slowed down slightly while writing the accounts. His gaze swept over the words the ge had written, and his voice was gentle, “If you’re tired of writing, take a short rest first. There’s no hurry for a while.”

Song Yi didn’t stop because of his words. He gently shook his head, said he wasn’t tired, and continued writing.

Yan Ye indulged him and asked the old servant, “Which family’s young master wants to see me?”

The old servant glanced at Song Yi hesitantly. “It’s the one from Little Song Shi’s family, the one who just got married three days ago.”

Hearing Little Song Shi, Song Yi raised his head, his gaze full of confusion. “He said he’s looking for your young master?”

Could Song Qing know this Master Yan?

Song Yi secretly guessed, but then felt it was impossible. If he knew him, with Song Qing’s character, why would he be willing to marry an old man as a secondary wife?

Not to mention that this man in front of him had an extraordinary appearance and a good family background, Song Qing wouldn’t let him go easily.

Although Song Yi didn’t grow up with Song Qing, ever since he returned to the village after falling on hard times, he had come to understand Song Qing’s character. Just like Little Song Shi, both mother and son were more selfish than the other; neither of them were good people.

Yan Ye could roughly guess that Song Qing might have come to see him because of Little Song Shi. He joked, “This ge from the Song family who got married, this young master is not familiar with him. Just send him away.”

He had no reason to meet someone unrelated who had also bullied his future little young master.

Upon hearing this, the old servant wanted to turn around and send the person away.

Song Yi lowered his eyes to look at the words he had just finished writing, put down his brush, “Young Master, how about you let me go?”

The old servant stopped his steps to leave. Yan Ye didn’t miss the cold sneer in Song Yi’s eyes when he lowered his gaze just now. Knowing that this ge was vengeful, he indulged him with his gaze, “Alright, he is your family, it’s good for you to go. Just remember to come back and write for me.”

“Yes, I’ll be back in a moment.” Song Yi agreed and ran out.

Yan Ye watched him run out of the study before sitting down again, picking up the uncalculated ledger to continue. When he found a problematic area, he picked up his brush and wrote it down.

The old servant said worriedly, “Young Master, your hand isn’t…”

Before he finished speaking, he saw his young master shake his head, placing a finger on his lips, making a shushing gesture.

Servants know best how to read people’s expressions. The old servant closed his mouth, but his face was etched with worry.

Has the young master taken a liking to this little ge, that he kept him here?

No, he has to go and inquire about this ge’s matters.

After waiting for a while, Song Qing began to get impatient. He didn’t know if that servant had gone to inform Master Yan.

Song Qing was just about to continue knocking on the door to see, when the door was pulled open from the inside.

Song Qing’s face changed rapidly, a smile returning to his face. He was about to call out to Master Yan, but when he looked up and saw who the person was, his smile couldn’t stay on his face. “Song Yi, why is it you? Where is Master Yan?”

Song Yi crossed his arms over his chest, leaning against the large door, not giving Song Qing a chance to enter. His eyes were mocking, “You’ve only been married for three days, and you’re already thinking of coming back to seduce other men?”

Having his thoughts exposed, Song Qing’s face showed a few seconds of unnaturalness. “You’re talking nonsense, I didn’t. I came on behalf of my mother to apologize to Master Yan.”

His gaze swept over Song Yi. “As for you, what are you doing appearing in someone else’s house as a little ge? Do you still have any face?”

Thinking that Song Yi was also a ge, Song Qing instantly thought of more, and his eyes changed immediately. “Song Yi, Mom has been looking for you at home for a long time, why aren’t you hurrying back home?”

He absolutely could not let Song Yi, this jinx, hook up with Master Yan.

Little Song Shi would look for him? A joke. Song Yi sneered inwardly, seeing through Song Qing’s lie at a glance. “Song Qing, what are you worried about?”

“What is there for me to worry about? It’s just that Mom wants you to go home.” Song Qing’s eyes dared not meet his, deeply afraid that Song Yi would discover his thoughts.

Song Yi, who understood him, curved his lips, leaned closer to him, and whispered in Song Qing’s ear, “Aren’t you just worried that Master Yan will take a fancy to me and I’ll marry better than you?”

Song Qing’s eyes widened. After his thoughts were exposed, there was only anger. “Don’t even think about it! Do you think Master Yan would take a fancy to you, an incomplete ge? Don’t forget, you’re still a eunuch.”

The word “eunuch” was like a sharp weapon, piercing directly into his heart, forcing Song Yi to face reality. Even if he left the palace, he couldn’t be an ordinary little ge.

Song Yi’s gaze was as sharp as a knife when he looked up again. Beneath his calm exterior, darkness was hidden within. “So what if I’m a eunuch? If it weren’t for me entering the palace as a eunuch and sending Little Song Shi so much money over the years, where do you think your daily food and clothing came from?”

“Isn’t that what you should give anyway?” Song Qing said as if it were a matter of course.

Song Yi lowered his head and chuckled. Hadn’t he seen through these people’s true faces long ago? Why bother saying these things? It would be better to say something interesting.

“What if Master Yan really takes a fancy to me?”

Song Qing’s eyes were contemptuous. “You’re daydreaming.”

Song Yi’s lips curved into a strange smile. “Then you just wait and see.”

Although Song Qing looked down on Song Yi, a ge who was a eunuch, his heart became anxious at the thought of him wanting to seduce Master Yan.

Aside from being a eunuch, which was undesirable, Song Yi’s face was truly flawless. He was the most famously good-looking ge in the village.

If it weren’t for being a eunuch, many men would have wanted to come and propose marriage.

Song Qing didn’t want Song Yi, who was now a eunuch, to have a better life than him. He stepped forward and tried to pull Song Yi, “You come home with me now.”

When Song Yi dodged him, the threshold tripped Song Qing, and he stumbled, falling headfirst right in front of Song Yi.

Song Yi lowered his head to look at him, with no intention of helping him up. “Master Yan told me to send you away. You can scram now.”

Song Qing’s knee hurt from the fall. Before he could stand up, the large door closed in front of his eyes, leaving only the heavy sound of it closing and Song Yi’s mocking gaze.
