    Chapter Seventy-Two: Mermaid Comes Ashore

Little Mermaid is a book that can be said to have been read by every household, including Song Qiu Yi. When he was a child, he also took this book to ask his parents if there were really mermaids in the sea.

The answer was of course no.

But none of that matters. Now technology is becoming more and more advanced, even books are waterproof. Yan Ye asked Song Qiu Yi to give him the book. He wanted to see if the story of the Little Mermaid in this world was the same as what he knew.

Although Song Qiu Yi was surprised by what he was going to do, he still threw the book in.

Yan Ye scanned the book line by line. Within two minutes, he finished reading the story of the Little Mermaid and confirmed that this was the mermaid story he wanted, then closed the book with satisfaction.

“Do you have any other books similar to this Little Mermaid?”

“Not sure, I have to check.” Song Qiu Yi answered lightly, only thinking that he was bored and wanted to read, and was only interested in this type of book.

Song Qiu Yi left for more than ten minutes, and when he returned, he brought back three books about the Little Mermaid. Yan Ye glanced through them one by one, and after discovering that none of the mermaids had a good ending, he closed the books contentedly.

Yan Ye, “I need to go back to the sea once.”

Song Qiu Yi refused without hesitation, “No.” His eyes were no longer as relaxed and wary as before.

Yan Ye saw his nervousness and worry about him escaping, “Don’t worry, I’ll be back. I just want to give these books to my friends.”

Song Qiu Yi remained unmoved, shaking his head firmly, “You can read books, but leaving is absolutely impossible.”

Yan Ye swam over, pressing his body against the glass, persuading him, “You have high technology in your hands, even if I escape, you can still catch me. What’s more, I’m just delivering something, I won’t run away.”

Merfolk voices are naturally capable of charming people. Those with unstable minds might have already agreed, but Song Qiu Yi only paused for a moment, lowered his gaze, and said indifferently, “It seems the legend about the enchanting power of mermaid voices is true!” He almost agreed! But knowing this beforehand wasn’t bad. This could prevent anyone else besides himself from approaching the merman.

Yan Ye just watched Song Qiu Yi leave, and the matter he last brought up was not agreed upon.

After Song Qiu Yi left, he washed his face. Only when the excitement in his head gradually disappeared did he calm down and go to the cockpit to talk to Tony and Duke. Tony and Duke had weak willpower and were very likely to be charmed by the merman, so he had to forbid these two from entering that room again.

Of course, this was quickly met with opposition from the two, but when Song Qiu Yi mentioned that he would report their contribution for capturing the merman this time to the higher-ups when they returned to the research institute, the two finally compromised.

As for Cliff, he was completely outside of Song Qiu Yi’s consideration. For this man who took five hundred US dollars from him, Song Qiu Yi thought that if this man wanted money, he would obediently listen.

Yan Ye doesn’t easily change decisions. He must meet the female lead Chris. He was caught because of her. Chris is a person who remembers kindness and repays it, otherwise, she wouldn’t have searched for twenty years for the person who saved her back then.

He was worried that Chris might be caught ashore again by mistake because she wanted to save him. Song Qiu Yi was the one who promised Yan Ye not to catch another merman, but that was one thing. There were other researchers on the ship, and they, like Song Qiu Yi, wanted to study mermen. If they could catch another one, it would only be a good thing for them.

Since Song Qiu Yi wouldn’t agree, Yan Ye looked at his tail. He forcefully slapped it against the water tank glass, and the door of the room was pushed open.

Song Qiu Yi saw the merman hitting the water tank with its tail, his pupils suddenly contracted, and he had only one thought: Bad! It wants to escape!

Yan Ye saw him enter and suddenly stopped slapping his tail, smiling, “You should know, if you don’t let me go back to the bottom of the sea, I will eventually smash this water tank!”

This thing could hold him for a while, but it couldn’t hold him forever, unless he willingly stayed trapped here. What he said was true. After the merman’s forceful hit just now, another crack appeared on the water tank.

Song Qiu Yi clenched his fists. Under Yan Ye’s seemingly provocative gaze, he opened his palm and took out a pill. “You can go back once, but you have to take this, and you have to be back within an hour.”

    “Poison?” Yan Ye asked.

Song Qiu Yi’s Adam’s apple bobbed, “Yes.” His voice was neither light nor heavy.

Yan Ye agreed, swam to the top of the water tank, took the pill from Song Qiu Yi through the feeding port, and swallowed it directly.

“You leave at twelve o’clock at night, and you must come back to me for the antidote before one o’clock in the morning.” Song Qiu Yi reminded him kindly, but there was a hint of threat in his words.

Yan Ye didn’t bother about what kind of poison he had been given, and smiled, agreeing to his words, “I understand.”

Around eleven-thirty at night, Song Qiu Yi left the room where the merman was kept and went to divert Tony and Duke so that the merman had a chance to get into the water.

With a splash, a small spray of water was kicked up at the stern of the ship, and a figure, without anyone noticing, plunged into the seabed, swimming towards the place where there were merman/merfolk presences.

Since Yan Ye was caught on the ship, Chris felt a lot of self-blame. She thought that if she hadn’t been too careless, the other party wouldn’t have been caught while trying to save her.

To find a chance to rescue her companion, Chris had been lurking deep in the seabed, following the ship. This was also the reason why Yan Ye quickly found her by the merman’s presence.

A black figure came closer from a distance. After Chris saw who it was, she immediately swam to him in a rush.

“That’s great, you’re okay!” Chris exclaimed in surprise, her eyes full of self-blame.

Yan Ye, “Don’t worry, I’m fine, and I’ve escaped from that ship.”

Chris swam around him several times, confirming that what she said was true, and finally smiled, taking out something that looked like a treasure chest. “This is for you, thank you for saving me!”

Chris found the treasure chest in the ocean. It was filled with many colorful gemstones. Chris liked it very much and always carried it with her when she traveled across the ocean. Now she was giving it to Yan Ye to repay him.

Yan Ye recognized these as human gemstones at a glance, roughly guessing their origin, and accepted them under Chris’s expectant gaze.

“I also have something for you. I found it on a human ship.” Yan Ye took out the four books about the Little Mermaid that he had already prepared.

Chris blinked her blue eyes, “What are these?”

“Stories of the Little Mermaid. I saw that the mermaids in the stories are us merfolk, and out of curiosity, I took a few back.” Yan Ye began to make things up seriously, “Since you gave me this, I’ll give you these books as well.”

Chris didn’t have a chance to refuse because Yan Ye had already put the books into her hand. Chris stared curiously at the covers of these books, and couldn’t help but secretly compare. The mermen drawn on these books weren’t as beautiful as her, so why were they called Little Mermaids?
