    Chapter 10

Leisure Years in the Jade Pond, Immortal Destiny Continues

After Gu Baifei ascended to become a Loose Immortal, he did not cling to the splendor of the Celestial Realm. He simply found a secluded bamboo dwelling by the Jade Pond, where he continued to keep his brush, ink, paper, and inkstone, writing down the anecdotes of both the immortal and mortal realms. Qinglian would visit the bamboo dwelling whenever she had time, sometimes to admire the purple lotuses in the pond with him, and sometimes to listen to him recite his newly compiled immortal tales. Hu Si, or Fourth Fox, often brought his home-brewed immortal wine and joined the fun. The three of them sitting together became a unique sight by the Jade Pond.

One day, Venerable Nüwa suddenly arrived at the lotus pond. Looking at the three people happily conversing in the bamboo dwelling, she smiled and said to Qinglian, “You, girl, have found a new flavor of life since returning from your tribulation. You’ve even brought a touch of mortal warmth to the Jade Pond.”

Qinglian rose and bowed, her eyes curving into a smile. “Venerable One, you jest. I am simply enjoying a rare peace of mind.”

Venerable Nüwa then turned to Gu Baifei, nodding in praise. “In your mortal life, you cared deeply for the common people, and your writing possesses warmth. Now that you have joined the ranks of the immortals, you could assist in the Hall of Fate, integrating the myriad aspects of the mortal world into the ledgers of destiny. That would be a great merit.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Baifei quickly bowed and accepted the offer. From then on, he had an additional duty in the Hall of Fate, often working with the Star Lord of Fate to deduce destinies. The stories he wrote surprisingly began to subtly align with the trajectory of mortal fortune, becoming a remarkable tale in the Celestial Realm.

Hu Si, seeing Qinglian smile radiantly every day, completely let go of his past obsessions, choosing only to guard her side as an elder brother. That day, he sought out Qinglian and handed her a jade pendant engraved with a lotus pattern. “I forged this from a thousand-year-old fox tail jade. It can protect your immortal soul and also guard that Loose Immortal, lest he be harmed by the celestial gales when first joining the immortal ranks.”

Qinglian accepted the pendant, her fingertips touching the warm jade, and her heart warmed. “Thank you, Fourth Brother.”

Days passed leisurely. Suddenly, a strange phenomenon occurred in the mortal world—at the old site where Qinglian had established her temple, a twin purple lotus bloomed. When the flowers opened, the sky was filled with radiant light, drawing mortals to worship them.

Qinglian and Gu Baifei went together to investigate. They saw that one of the twin lotuses was imbued with immortal grace, while the other carried the warmth of the mortal world—a perfect reflection of their bond. Gu Baifei looked at the lotus and suddenly smiled. “It turns out the destiny between immortal and mortal had already taken root in the human world.”

Qinglian looked at him, her eyes filled with a gentle smile. In the distance, Hu Si watched the two standing side by side, tilted his head back, drained the immortal wine from his flask, and a look of relief curved his lips.

Thereafter, the Jade Pond’s lotus pool and the twin lotuses in the mortal world echoed each other. Qinglian often brought Gu Baifei back and forth between the two realms, protecting the common people while also guarding this immortal destiny that spanned lifetimes. The tranquility of the Celestial Realm and the mortal warmth of the human world became the most gentle foundation of their years, stretching endlessly, year after year, free from worry.
