OVTTGTBE Chapter 42
by Volare## Buying Off Bodyguards
Two pure, inexperienced bodyguards who had never been in love instantly blushed. They looked at each other, losing the courage they had previously shown when offering to go back and get Bai Yao’s notes.
Liu Yucheng sat there with his fingers interlocked, observing their expressions, uncharacteristically not arguing with them.
“So, neither of you are going?”
After several minutes, sensing Bai Yao was about to lose his patience, Liu Yucheng finally stood up, expressionlessly glancing at the two women. “Then I’ll have to take your young master to that private little space, a private space where the door might even be locked.”
“Ugh, stop talking nonsense.”
Bai Yao had already swung his legs off the bed. “Hurry up.”
Liu Yucheng carefully removed the IV drip and helped Bai Yao toward the restroom.
“Hiss, it hurts, hold it steady,” Bai Yao frowned, unable to help himself from saying.
Regardless of the drip’s speed, he was in pain, and even the slightest movement of his arm hurt. If Liu Yucheng didn’t hold the IV bag steady, Bai Yao felt as if the pain would send him to heaven.
Once inside the restroom, Bai Yao locked the door and had Liu Yucheng stand behind him holding the IV bag while he undressed.
“Why are you arguing with them? They’re specifically responsible for protecting me; they aren’t bad people,” Bai Yao asked quietly while struggling with his pants.
“Yeah, sorry… I won’t do it again,” Liu Yucheng said softly.
“My family has been funding their education since they were kids. Later, they volunteered for the military and stayed for many years, only retiring last year. Don’t go head-to-head with them.”
“Yeah, are your pants still not undone?”
“Stop talking nonsense. I’ll just cut the buttonhole bigger later,” Bai Yao said, sweating profusely. “Almost there.”
He had worn these pants this morning to meet Duan Junran, and they had a belt. Undoing a belt with one hand was usually a small matter for Bai Yao, but the buttonhole was too small. It had been difficult to button them in the first place, and now he couldn’t get it open at all.
Another half-minute passed, and seeing that Bai Yao was about to jump up in frustration, Liu Yucheng reached around him, precisely located the button, and undid it in one swift motion.
Bai Yao: “You bastard…”
“Don’t you remember?”
Liu Yucheng said calmly, “We once went out and got a room, and you were wearing these pants.”
A trace of red slowly crept up Bai Yao’s neck and onto his cheeks.
“If I could undo it like that, it’s even easier with my hand.”
Liu Yucheng moved to Bai Yao’s left side, opened his mouth, and gently bit his own fingertip. “Young master is truly clumsy.”
“Alright, alright, go away, stop bothering me.”
Bai Yao scoffed. “Stand behind me, close your eyes, and if you dare cause trouble, I’ll have them arm-wrestle you and let you experience what it’s like to be utterly humiliated.”
…
Because Bai Yao was the only occupant of the room, the lights stayed on all night.
The bowl of porridge on the table was also finished by Bai Yao before it got cold.
The cooking was good, similar to what Aunt Yang used to make. Bai Yao tentatively asked about it, and the bodyguard only said it was strictly made according to Aunt Yang’s recipe, so he could eat it without worry.
Bai Yao lay in bed, reviewing his notes on his laptop; Liu Yucheng also sat beside him with his own notebook, and the two occasionally exchanged notes.
“Little Liu, don’t force yourself. The young master took a long nap this afternoon and won’t be sleepy anytime soon.”
The bodyguard raised an eyebrow. “You’re still a student; it’s nothing to be ashamed of if you can’t stay awake. We’re enough to take care of the young master.”
The other one added, “That’s right, we were special forces; staying awake for days on end is no problem. We’ve got the young master covered.”
Their provocative tone was obvious, but Liu Yucheng had promised Bai Yao not to argue with them, so he said, “What if he needs to use the restroom again? Which of you will accompany him?”
“We can ask the nurse for help,” the bodyguard said stubbornly. “Those nurses, what haven’t they seen? If worse comes to worst, I saw there’s a male nurse on the night shift…”
The three of them started again. Bai Yao, annoyed by the noise, said, “If you three keep arguing, you can all get out. Liu Yucheng, if you’re sleepy, rest for a while.”
Liu Yucheng’s gaze instantly turned extremely pitiful, looking at Bai Yao with pleading eyes. “But they won’t let me touch your hospital bed.”
Bai Yao pointed to the table next to the bed. “I’m talking about over there. With your height, my bed looks too short. That table is just the right height for you.”
Liu Yucheng: “…”
The two bodyguards couldn’t help but snicker at the sight.
They had heard Bai Yao’s speech that day from start to finish and afterwards heard Bai Yao complain a lot.
Although they didn’t quite understand Bai Yao’s “friendship between men” viewpoint, a tea-like man who acts pitiful at every turn deserved to be punished.
The night passed with Bai Yao studying and sleeping for another four hours. By Monday morning, although his stomach no longer hurt and his fever had subsided, the doctor, to be safe, didn’t immediately discharge him.
“You still have exams to go back to, right? If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, come back to the hospital immediately, understand? Observe you for another day today, come back tomorrow for a final checkup, and if there are no problems, you can be discharged.”
“Okay, thank you, doctor.”
Liu Yucheng had no classes. After confirming that Bai Yao was fine, he carried his bag back to the school dormitory.
Bai Yao went home to wash up, changed his clothes, and rushed back to school, managing to not miss his first midterm exam of the week.
The needle was still in his left hand. After the exam, Zhang Yifang and the others surrounded Bai Yao, asking what had happened after Saturday night because no one could reach him.
“Don’t even mention it; I spent the whole day in the hospital yesterday.”
Bai Yao thought gastroenteritis sounded a bit embarrassing, so he said, “I had a slight allergic reaction to Sunday noon’s takeout, nothing major, just forgot my phone.”
“What about that Liu kid?”
Li Jinyang asked him, “On Saturday night, I thought he’d followed us back to the dorm right away, but he didn’t come back all night. On Sunday, he came back to the dorm, grabbed a bag, and left.”
“Uh…”
Saying that Liu Yucheng had been with him at the hospital for the past two days didn’t seem quite right either, so Bai Yao lied, “I don’t know where he went. On Saturday night, my mom and Aunt Zhou had a private chat with him; I don’t know anything else.”
“You still have a needle in your hand; that’s rough.”
Tao Lin asked, “How are you feeling? Are you going back to the hospital now? Do you need us to go with you?”
“No need, I’m going back to the hospital for a checkup tomorrow. If everything’s fine, I can be discharged. Let’s go, let’s go to the library to study together.”
The group had just exited the teaching building when they ran into Liu Yucheng.
“Already finished the exam?”
Liu Yucheng held yesterday’s lunchbox in his hands. “Here, it’s the porridge. It’s the same as yesterday, and I added some pickles as you requested.”
Bai Yao: “…”
It’s over.
“What does this mean? You’re only letting Brother Yao have porridge for lunch?” Li Jinyang asked, unaware of the situation. “How can he get full on that?”
“Exactly. Brother Yao loves fried chicken. Even if you want to show your affection, you have to find out what he likes to eat, right?”
“Listen to me; it’s not like that…”
Bai Yao smiled awkwardly, took the lunchbox, and turned around to hand it to the bodyguard behind him. “This should be for them.”
“Right, right, we need to control our figures; it’s for us.” The two bodyguards had no choice but to cover for Bai Yao.
The next second, Liu Yucheng opened the plastic bag in his hand and took out two more pink lunchboxes.
Unlike Bai Yao’s sick-bay lunchbox, these two lunchboxes clearly didn’t contain porridge.
“These two are for you. Thank you for staying up all night guarding him last night, and I apologize for being ignorant and arguing with you last night.”
Liu Yucheng’s expression became very gentlemanly. “Ladies, you’ll definitely like it.”
Bai Yao and Li Jinyang stood to the side, looking bewildered as the two bodyguard sisters opened the lunchboxes.
The two lunchboxes contained identical high-protein nutritional meals. Not only were the side dishes arranged neatly, but each portion of rice also had a small carrot flower on top, making it look incredibly exquisite.
“Uh, thank you.”
The two bodyguard sisters held the lunchboxes in their hands, a little at a loss. “It’s indeed a muscle-building meal that’s very suitable for us.”
Although they were polite, their happiness was written all over their faces.
Bai Yao was extremely dissatisfied and blurted out, “Why are their lunches so exquisite, and I can only drink porridge? Liu Yucheng, are you deliberately trying to anger me, or do you want to buy off my bodyguards in front of me?”
“Because the doctor said you can only drink porridge.”
After Liu Yucheng said that, he threw the empty plastic bag into the trash can and turned to leave.
Bai Yao stood there, explaining to Li Jinyang and the others for a long time. When he turned around, he found that the two bodyguard sisters were already eating with the small spoons attached to the lunchboxes.
Damn it!
“Where did he borrow a kitchen from? Did he sneak into my house?”
Bai Yao couldn’t help but get angry, but because he hadn’t eaten normal food in so long, his tone sounded weak. “Qianqian, didn’t I tell you yesterday to change the combination lock at home before you left? How could he get in and out by himself?”
“I changed it.”
Qianqian said innocently, “I changed it while he was waiting for the elevator. The buttons were on silent, so he definitely doesn’t know the new password. And, to be honest, I don’t think he’s the kind of person who would sneak into the house when we’re not there. If he were, Boss Bai definitely wouldn’t tolerate him…”
“Why are you even speaking up for him?!”
Bai Yao was even angrier. “Still eating? You’re not allowed to eat anymore!”
…
Because of this incident, Bai Yao didn’t pay attention to Liu Yucheng for a week. Liu Yucheng also guessed that Bai Yao might be unhappy, so apart from meeting in the examination hall, he didn’t approach Bai Yao again.
But the porridge that Bai Yao drank in the days after he was discharged from the hospital never stopped, and it was always brought to him by those two bodyguard sisters. Bai Yao also questioned where the porridge came from, whether Aunt Yang had abandoned her daughter and secretly come to this city to cook for him, or whether Liu Yucheng had made it.
The two bodyguards only said that the porridge was absolutely safe and that he could drink it without worry.
On the day before the Qingming Festival holiday, most of the students in the school went home with their luggage, and Li Jinyang and the others were no exception.
Liu Yucheng had just finished his last elective course and returned to the dormitory with his bag slung over his shoulder. When he pushed the door open, he found that it wasn’t locked.
“What are you doing here?”
Liu Yucheng was stunned for a moment before asking.
He hadn’t seen Bai Yao’s two bodyguards downstairs just now.
“This is still my bed; why can’t I be here?”
Bai Yao jumped straight down from his bed. “You haven’t forgotten what you promised me before, have you? Hurry up and pack your luggage, and don’t let my mom find out.”
Liu Yucheng then remembered that Bai Yao had finished his last exam yesterday. Today, Bai Yao had come to the school dormitory specifically to wait for him. They could go on a trip together.
