OVTTGTBE Chapter 30

Unreal Feeling
“What? Are you afraid of the dark?” Bai Yao asked, forcing himself.
“Turning the tables?”
Liu Yucheng said, immediately turning off the flashlight on his phone, and the room plunged into darkness.
“Call your boyfriend to protect you, call him three times and see if he answers.”
The deep voice remained in place, not too far, not too close from Bai Yao.
Bai Yao’s heart was beating fast, thinking, why is Liu Yucheng still acting at a time like this? Isn’t he going to come clean?
What if he impulsively called him three times, what would he do?
“He’s busy.”
Unfortunately, Bai Yao wouldn’t be Bai Yao if he didn’t say something annoying, “I don’t want to disturb his work.”
Liu Yucheng’s breathing became heavier.
“So, when I was working part-time and didn’t reply to your messages in time, you wanted to break up with me.”
Liu Yucheng clenched his fists, “Why is the treatment different for someone else?”
“Liu Yucheng, do you really have to hash this out with me now?” Bai Yao threw the things in his hand back into the toiletry bag, “Do you think that I broke up with you just because you didn’t reply to my messages when you were working part-time?”
“You were quite proactive when we were booking rooms, damn it, you act like you don’t know me after we put our pants back on, it’s like this relationship never existed. I don’t care what you think, that’s just the reality.”
Bai Yao vented his pent-up emotions in one breath. Anyway, it was pitch black all around, and he couldn’t see his own expression.
Liu Yucheng: “…”
“Say something, aren’t you going to chat with me?”
“I’m sorry, I misspoke, don’t be angry.”
To express his apology, Liu Yucheng silently turned on the light on his phone, but Bai Yao just happened to turn his face away, so he didn’t see Bai Yao’s expression.
If Bai Yao had really called out just now, Liu Yucheng would have had the urge to come clean with him.
There was no one else in the dorm tonight, he could hug Bai Yao as much as he wanted, the kind of hug where the two people were pressed tightly together, and then say: I am Peach Milk.
But now it seemed that it was a good thing Bai Yao didn’t call out, and it was a good thing he didn’t act rashly.
Bai Yao probably still couldn’t accept the fact that he was Peach Milk, and didn’t mean to forgive him; the casual conversations were just Bai Yao’s normal way of interacting with people, without any other thoughts mixed in.
Although things were unpleasant at the moment, Liu Yucheng still relied on the light in his hand, relied on Bai Yao’s fear of the dark, and even more fear of being alone, so he stood at the bathroom door without moving.
Bai Yao washed up, and he watched the whole process. Especially when he saw Bai Yao accidentally squeeze the fragrant facial cleanser onto his toothbrush and put it in his mouth, Liu Yucheng wanted to laugh but didn’t dare, he could only keep a straight face and silently sigh in his heart, how clumsy, is Bai Yao this cute when he washes up alone on normal days?
When it was Liu Yucheng’s turn to wash up, Bai Yao went to check if the dorm door was locked, just like he used to do when he spent weekends alone, but he was successfully dissuaded by the green light shining through the crack in the door.
He insisted on sitting at his desk, waiting for Liu Yucheng to finish washing up and come out, before pointing at the door and saying, “The rules aren’t strict on Saturdays and Sundays, check if the door is locked.”
Without saying a word, Liu Yucheng walked over and opened the dorm door directly.
Bai Yao was shocked and quickly closed his eyes; but he was still too late and saw the extremely strange color of the emergency light in the dorm corridor. There were many people in the corridor just now, most of them with their phone flashlights on, and Bai Yao didn’t think anything of it; but now, many people had gone to internet cafes for the night, and the corridor was quiet, the color of this emergency light seemed a little too ignorant.
“What are you doing opening the door? Close it quickly!”
“I thought I heard footsteps outside the door just now.”
Liu Yucheng looked out the door for a while and said seriously, “Maybe I was wrong.”
Bai Yao: “…”
This person is really a pain in the ass.
After getting into bed, Bai Yao picked up his phone, which had single-digit battery power, and glanced at the Wechat group.
Li Jinyang: I heard the school had a power outage? Are you okay, Bai Yao? Don’t let that someone take advantage of you.
Zhang Yifang: I was wondering why you suddenly dropped offline.
Zhang Yifang privately messaged: You and Peach Milk went offline at the same time, is he also from our school?
Tao Lin: Bai Yao, do you want to go to an internet cafe?
Bai Yao: I’m fine.
Bai Yao: My phone is almost out of battery, so I can only go to bed and sleep.
Li Jinyang: Hey, I went home, I didn’t make it… Wasn’t this building a female dorm before? Why do you think they suddenly switched male and female dorms this semester?
Tao Lin: Who doesn’t know? It is said that several years ago, a senior student couldn’t think straight for a while and did *that* on the fifth floor… That dorm room is still locked, tonight is a good opportunity for exploration.
Li Jinyang: Bai Yao, you probably can’t sleep so early, right? Why not get Yan Hao and Liu Yucheng to explore the fifth floor together?
Bai Yao threw his phone to the end of the bed.
Thank you so much, everyone.
Who wants to leave a warm and safe bed to go exploring?
You should go to bed early on Friday night! College students should go to bed early and get up early! Even if you can’t sleep, so what? Use every ounce of willpower in your toes to force yourself to sleep!
Twenty minutes later, Liu Yucheng’s bed curtain was violently lifted.
Liu Yucheng was holding his phone, waiting for Bai Yao to send a message to Peach Milk. But instead of a message, he got Bai Yao reaching out to him:
“Your phone, let me play with it for a while.” Bai Yao said as a matter of course.
In the past, when Bai Yao’s phone ran out of power, Liu Yucheng was very willing to lend him his phone to play with, but such opportunities were not frequent. It seemed that it was really as he guessed, Bai Yao’s phone was just out of power.
“I won’t lend it to you.” Liu Yucheng turned over, facing him sideways, “Lend it to you so you can contact your boyfriend?”
“It’s fine if you don’t lend it.”
Bai Yao had never compromised so quickly, so quickly that it seemed as if everything was planned, pointing to his bed and looking at Liu Yucheng, his attitude was firm: “You come sleep over here.”
Liu Yucheng: “?”
“Hurry up, if you don’t come over, I’ll go over to your side.” Bai Yao urged.
Liu Yucheng didn’t react for a moment, and looked at his own quilt in confusion, wondering if his three-piece bedding set, although just changed not long ago, would be disliked by Bai Yao for not being fragrant enough? There was a power outage tonight, and he didn’t get to shower either…
Or should he go to Bai Yao’s side?
Wait…
“No way.”
Liu Yucheng said, “Your boyfriend will be unhappy.”
Having guessed that he would say this, Bai Yao directly said, “I’ve already told him, the situation is special, he can understand. Besides, we’re not going to do anything, just sleep.”
Liu Yucheng: “…”
The world is a cold and heartless place, even Bai Yao, this simple young master, has learned to lie.
But knowing that Bai Yao was lying, he couldn’t expose him. Liu Yucheng suddenly had a sense of frustration from being hoisted by his own petard.
“Hurry up and come over, I’m so cold I can’t sleep at all.”
Bai Yao urged again, with a hint of stubbornness in his words. Only then did Liu Yucheng “reluctantly” take his pillow and crawl into Bai Yao’s bed curtain.
The two of them lay together on the small bed in the dorm, extremely crowded, and they had to lie on their sides, facing each other.
The quilt that had never been warm before finally became warm.
“You didn’t think I’d be naive enough to turn my back to you, did you?” Bai Yao stared straight at Liu Yucheng using the light from his phone screen, “You turn around.”
“Then I’ll fall off.”
Liu Yucheng raised his hand and gently placed it on Bai Yao’s eyes, “Close your eyes. I’ll go back after you fall asleep.”
This bed was so small that unless one person hugged the other, it would be crowded no matter how they lay. Both of them were well aware of this situation.
It had been a long time since he had been this close to Liu Yucheng, and the fiery temperature plus the familiar scent inevitably made Bai Yao a little unable to suppress his body’s reaction; but he couldn’t fall asleep, so in order to divert his attention, Bai Yao had to start looking for topics to talk about.
“I went out to dinner tonight.” He took the initiative to say.
Liu Yucheng hummed softly.
“Guess who with?” Bai Yao asked him.
Liu Yucheng blurted out, “Your boyfriend, right.”
“Tsk, can’t you think of something else?”
Bai Yao thought about it, anyway, he would tell Peach Milk sooner or later, so he might as well tell him now: “The person who claimed to be my dad, he brought a young woman today, saying he wanted to introduce her to me.”
“And then?”
“He thought I might be single and said he wanted to introduce me to a girlfriend.” Bai Yao said casually, “A honey trap.”
Liu Yucheng was very surprised and wanted to sit up sideways, but Bai Yao, with quick eyes and hands, pulled him back, “Don’t sit up yet, listen to me. The wind will get into the quilt if you do that, and it’ll be cold.”
This wasn’t the first time Liu Yucheng had this kind of subconscious evasive action.
“I wasn’t fooled. What do you take me for? Someone who rushes at anyone who’s pretty?”
His small movements were interrupted, and Liu Yucheng became a little irritable, pressing him for details: “What happened next? What did you do?”
Bai Yao smiled, and simply said, “Of course I knew he was fake, I’m not stupid enough to not believe what my mom said – my real dad is indeed dead. I won’t give him a penny, don’t worry.”
When they were eating dinner tonight, Bai Yao threatened him a little, and the person claiming to be Cheng Tianyang confessed everything and begged Bai Yao not to call the police.
But Bai Yao never expected that the person who sent him to impersonate his father was actually Liu Yucheng’s cousin, Liu Angran.
“Liu Yucheng.”
“Hmm?”
“Are you relieved now?”
“Yes. I’m relieved.”
Liu Yucheng was still rejoicing in what Bai Yao had just said, and he subconsciously wanted to pat Bai Yao’s hair like he used to. But on second thought, his current identity wasn’t appropriate, so he put down the hand he had just raised.
“Liu Yucheng.”
Bai Yao called him again.
“Yes, I’m here.”
“Why don’t you pat me anymore.”
Liu Yucheng went from rejoicing to being shocked.
Seeing that Bai Yao had already closed his eyes, he turned off the phone screen, and hesitantly raised a hand, gently patting Bai Yao like he was coaxing a child.
In an instant, the two seemed to have returned to the time when they shared a bed.
Once, Bai Yao couldn’t sleep at night because he was in pain, and he kept lying on the bed making a fuss. In order to coax him to sleep, Liu Yucheng simply tried gently patting him. This method was surprisingly effective for Bai Yao, and Bai Yao fell asleep in no time.
Later, every time the two of them went to book a room, Liu Yucheng would gently pat him before going to bed. At that time, Bai Yao would also act coquettishly with him, saying, “Hubby, pat me quickly.”
The dorm was pitch black, listening to Bai Yao’s gradually steady breathing, and the hand that Bai Yao “inadvertently” held tightly around his waist while speaking just now, Liu Yucheng had a dreamlike feeling of unreality.
If this was a dream, how much Liu Yucheng wished he could continue dreaming like this, hoping that time could stop at this moment, forever.
Unfortunately, tomorrow, everything would return to its original state, right?
…
In the middle of the night, Bai Yao woke up with a start.
He groped around his bed, but it was empty next to him.
The person he was holding was gone.
He sat up, forcing himself despite being sleepy, not even caring about the cold, he climbed to the end of the bed and lifted the bed curtain between the two beds.
After groping for a long time, Liu Yucheng’s bed was also empty? Where did he go?
Did he sneak out while he was asleep… The power is out in this whole building, is he the only one left in the dorm now?
“Liu Yucheng?”
Bai Yao sat helplessly on his bed, muttering, “Liu Yucheng, where did you go?”
It was like this when he was little, why was he always left alone on nights like this??
He didn’t have a father since he was little, and his mother was always away from home. Even when she was there, she would always sneak away when Bai Yao fell asleep at night, leaving him alone in that pitch-black room.
Power outage…
That day, a bad guy followed his mother home, was there a power outage that night too? He couldn’t remember clearly, he only remembered the pitch-black living room, and the fishy smell of the liquid flowing on his face.
At this moment, Bai Yao heard footsteps coming from the corridor outside the door. Liu Yucheng seemed to have said before he went to bed that he seemed to have heard some footsteps.
“Liu Yucheng…”
“Liu Yucheng, where did you go!”
“Don’t leave me alone!”
Bai Yao almost collapsed, groping for the steps at the edge of the bed to climb down, but a cold hand grabbed his ankle.
He trembled with fright and almost cried out.
“Don’t come down, the ground is cold.”
Liu Yucheng patted him, and climbed onto Bai Yao’s bed in a few steps, directly hugging the cold young man tightly in his arms.
“I answered just now, didn’t you hear?”
“The window at your bedside has been leaking air, no wonder you always feel cold when you sleep at night. I just blocked the gap.”
He gently patted Bai Yao’s back, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
Liu Yucheng’s pajamas and chest were a little cold, and Bai Yao couldn’t tell whether this not-so-warm embrace was real or a dream.
His voice became a little choked, “Outside the door… there are footsteps outside the door, someone… a bad guy who wants to hurt us…”
