OVTTGTBE Chapter 28

Sulking
The first thing Bai Yao did when he opened his eyes the next morning at a little after five was check his phone to see if Honey Peach Milk had replied. The chat window was still on the messages he had sent last night, and Honey Peach Milk hadn’t replied.
The second thing he did upon waking was quietly reach to the other side of the bed and lift Liu Yucheng’s bed curtains.
Nobody was in the bed. The pillow was still neatly arranged without a single wrinkle, just like he had checked before going to sleep last night.
Liu Yucheng hadn’t returned all night.
Bai Yao had no classes this morning, and he had stayed up scrolling through his phone until three in the morning, planning to sleep in the next day.
But he had only slept for two hours, and he was already too agitated to fall back asleep. It wasn’t even light outside yet.
Bai Yao sat on the bed and sulked for a while, thinking that since he couldn’t sleep anyway, he might as well change his clothes and go for a morning run, then buy some breakfast.
By seven in the morning, it was gradually getting light outside, and Bai Yao didn’t bother going back to the dorm to change, so he went straight out of the school with his water bottle, wanting to see what kind of food was available at the breakfast stalls around the school.
And also to see who Liu Yucheng would be coming out of a nearby hotel with.
“Boss, I want two mushroom buns and a bowl of millet porridge, thank you.”
Bai Yao took out his phone to scan the QR code and pay, when suddenly someone patted him on the shoulder.
He turned around, and after confirming that he didn’t recognize the middle-aged man standing behind him, he asked, “Are you…?”
“Are you Bai Yao?”
The middle-aged man was well-dressed in a suit, a touch of stiffness in his otherwise warm expression: “Long time no see.”
“I don’t know you.”
Bai Yao sat down at the entrance of the breakfast shop with his porridge and buns, “Don’t try to sell me anything, I don’t want anything.”
“Bai Yao, I’m your father, my name is Cheng Tianyang.”
The middle-aged man said, “Your mother left home when she was pregnant with you, so it’s no wonder you don’t recognize me.”
Only then did Bai Yao look up and stare in astonishment at the middle-aged man in front of him.
Cheng Tianyang was indeed his father’s name, but Bai Yao had never met his father, and as far back as he could remember, his surname had been Bai, following his mother Bai Junyi.
“My mom said my dad had died a long time ago.”
Bai Yao looked at the suit he was wearing and said, “Besides, even if my dad were alive, how could he wear such a tattered suit?”
The expression on the man’s face became even more awkward – this was a suit his partner had found several online loan companies to borrow a lot of money to buy, and in this kid’s mouth, it had become “tattered.”
He took out an ID card and placed it on the table: “This is my ID card, can I sit down?”
Bai Yao originally wanted to chase him away, but from a distance, he saw a particularly familiar slender figure, carrying a schoolbag over his shoulder, walking towards them.
Bai Yao quickly urged the man who claimed to be his father to sit down: “Come, sit down, please sit down.”
It would be best if he could just block him.
Seeing that he had agreed, Cheng Tianyang immediately put on a warm face and sat down opposite Bai Yao. “It’s so good that you’re willing to talk to me. I thought that after so many years of me not being by your side, you would resent me.”
Bai Yao glanced distractedly behind him and casually asked, “Then what do you want from me? Want a bun?”
“Oh, no, no.”
Cheng Tianyang clasped his hands together, hesitating for a long time. “Uh, I… my business has run into some difficulties recently, and I’m a little short on funds. You know how strong your mother is; I’m afraid she’ll laugh at me, and I can’t bring myself to ask her… so, I wanted to borrow some money from you, just to tide me over.”
“Oh.” Bai Yao continued to ask: “How much do you want?”
“Bai Yao.”
Liu Yucheng walked straight to the table, looking down at Bai Yao, whose mouth was full of buns, and the middle-aged man sitting opposite him, and questioned: “Who is he?”
Bai Yao’s mother’s villa was in the suburbs, far from the university, and it took several hours to drive back and forth on the highway.
Liu Yucheng’s phone had run out of battery yesterday evening, and he didn’t expect that when he rushed back early this morning, he would see Bai Yao sitting here having breakfast with a middle-aged man.
“Him?”
Bai Yao didn’t even look up, muttering, “What’s it to you? You didn’t come home last night, and you’re here to ask me?”
“Hello, you must be Bai Yao’s classmate?”
Cheng Tianyang looked Liu Yucheng up and down and introduced himself, “I am Bai Yao’s father.”
Liu Yucheng: “?”
Liu Yucheng: “What proof do you have?”
Just a few hours ago, Bai Junyi had said that Bai Yao’s father had died a long time ago. This middle-aged man was definitely a fake.
Not only that, but Liu Yucheng had also learned some things about his parents’ generation from her, and he now knew that their family had a long history with Bai Yao’s family.
However, Bai Junyi had never mentioned these things to Bai Yao.
“Why are you talking like that?”
Bai Yao stood up immediately, glaring at Liu Yucheng, “He is my dad. Dad, tell me, how much money do you want?”
Liu Yucheng was too strange. When hearing that someone is an elder, who would immediately ask them to produce evidence?
Although Bai Yao also knew that this person was probably a scammer; but right now, as long as he could annoy Liu Yucheng, he dared to say anything.
Moreover, this man had produced an ID card, and the age and place of origin matched, and he had accurately found himself outside the school; it was impossible for Bai Yao not to feel curious and suspicious.
“Oh, Bai Yao is the best.”
Cheng Tianyang stared straight at Bai Yao, grinning non-stop, “Lend Dad 50,000 yuan, can you get it?”
“No.”
Liu Yucheng grabbed Bai Yao’s arm before he could take out his phone, “You said you’ve never met your father. Don’t trust him so easily.”
Bai Yao thought about it carefully, oh, once when they went out to rent a room, the two of them went out for supper at night, and he seemed to have mentioned it.
“Let go, who told you to grab me?” Bai Yao struggled a few times, taking the opportunity to vent his dissatisfaction, “What did you touch last night? Did you wash your hands?”
Liu Yucheng didn’t let go, but he didn’t intend to let it go like this, and said directly, “Didn’t wash, haven’t washed since last night, are you satisfied?”
Anyway, neither of them had classes this morning, and even if they were stuck like this, they couldn’t let Bai Yao be scammed like this.
“Classmate, what are you doing?”
Cheng Tianyang frowned and ordered, “Let go of my son right now!!”
Liu Yucheng took out his best skill of being oblivious to everyone around him – couldn’t hear, couldn’t see either.
Bai Yao could also realize that Liu Yucheng was serious today.
Because no matter how much he kicked and thrashed, and no matter how much he shouted, Liu Yucheng was like a stone pier, grabbing his hands tightly, standing there without moving. Cheng Tianyang stepped forward to help, but also failed to pry Liu Yucheng’s hands open.
There were many people who came to this street for breakfast nearby, and many people stood by watching the three of them having fun, and some people stepped forward to ask if they needed to call the police?
Among them was Teaching Assistant Xu, who was passing by on his electric bike.
“Bai Yao? Liu Yucheng?? What are you doing? Fighting all the way to the school gate?”
Teaching Assistant Xu rode his electric bike around the three of them in a circle, stopped his bike, took off his helmet, and walked straight towards them, “What’s going on?”
“Who are you?” Cheng Tianyang questioned.
“Consider me their teacher.” Teaching Assistant Xu pointed at Liu Yucheng and said, “You let go first, and talk it over slowly. What’s wrong with you two, why are you always having conflicts?”
Cheng Tianyang muttered in his heart – teacher? A university teacher? This person looks only 30 years old, can someone so young be a university teacher now?
Liu Yucheng didn’t let go, but said, “Teacher Xu, this middle-aged man is a scammer, he wants to scam Bai Yao’s money.”
Bai Yao: “…”
It seemed that Liu Yucheng had learned the trick of telling the teacher clearly.
“Oh?”
Teaching Assistant Xu pushed up his glasses and immediately became interested, “Then I’ll call the police, none of you three move.”
“Hey, hey, Teacher, wait a minute, I’m not a scammer!” Cheng Tianyang spread his hands, “I’m this child’s father, biological father! I’m just borrowing some money from my son!”
“Is that really the case?” Teaching Assistant Xu turned to look at Bai Yao.
Bai Yao was really unsure for a moment when he asked this.
99 percent a scammer, but what if… he really was? What if his biological father hadn’t actually died, and his mother didn’t know the truth…
He might have a father in the future!
“Teacher Xu, I’ve never actually seen what my biological dad looks like.”
After hesitating for a long time, Bai Yao said truthfully, “The information on his ID card is correct, and the name is also correct, so… I can’t say for sure either.”
Teaching Assistant Xu didn’t say anything more.
He carefully observed Cheng Tianyang, and then observed Bai Yao. After a while, he patted Bai Yao on the shoulder and asked, “Have you done a DNA test?”
Bai Yao shook his head.
“In that case, you wait a little longer at the school gate. I’ll take him back to the counselor to get a leave note.”
Teaching Assistant Xu said to Cheng Tianyang, “You two do a DNA test later, and it won’t be too late for him to lend you the money after the results come out.”
Cheng Tianyang instantly looked embarrassed, sighed, and said, “Then how about we do it another day, I can’t delay Bai Yao’s class. Oh, right, this is my business card, keep it.”
As he said that, he quickly stuffed the business card into Bai Yao’s hand.
“I don’t have class this morning.” Bai Yao thought for a while and said, “How about just this morning? I really want to know the results too.”
“No, I have something to do, I don’t have time.”
Cheng Tianyang glanced at the traffic lights at the street corner, and when he saw that it had turned green, he waved to Bai Yao directly, “I’m in a hurry, I’m leaving first. Remember to call me when you’re free!”
…
Teaching Assistant Xu pushed his little electric bike and entered the school with Bai Yao and Liu Yucheng.
“Student Bai Yao, although I know, I’ve heard a little about your situation, and I often see news about your mother Bai Junyi, she has always said that she is a single mother. You should… really hope that he is your biological father, right?”
After hesitating for a moment, Teaching Assistant Xu still chose to tell him, “But, unfortunately, in terms of dominant genes, the possibility of that person being your father is not high.”
“Of course, this is just my personal guess, if you’re worried, you should still do a DNA test with him. However, if you want to go, you must have someone accompany you, preferably Student Liu Yucheng with you, actually, he protected you today.”
“Yes.”
Bai Yao walked along while picking at his fingers, feeling a little embarrassed, “Thank you, Teacher, thank you, Student Liu Yucheng.”
Liu Yucheng didn’t say anything, today it turned out like this, 80 percent of it was to spite him; but Bai Yao was particularly grateful to Teaching Assistant Xu.
Because the appearance of Teaching Assistant Xu at least resolved his dilemma. Otherwise, if it continued like that, he might fight Liu Yucheng to the death for the sake of face. After all, 50,000 yuan was not even pocket money for Bai Yao, and he didn’t take it to heart at all.
Moreover, since Teaching Assistant Xu mentioned dominant genes, Bai Yao guessed that Liu Yucheng had probably observed it from this aspect as well, but he didn’t know where they saw it? Why didn’t he see it?
Teaching Assistant Xu had classes next, and he separated from Bai Yao and them near the laboratory. Before separating, he repeatedly told them to be careful, and to remember to call the police if anything happened; being scammed out of money was a small matter, but it would be even worse if it was a human trafficker.
After a morning of tossing and turning, Bai Yao began to feel sleepy again.
He and Liu Yucheng walked shoulder to shoulder, without saying a word, to the bottom of the dormitory building, when Bai Yao suddenly grabbed Liu Yucheng’s arm.
“Aren’t you going to say something?”
Bai Yao looked at him, “Where did you go last night?”
