OMH Chapter 81
by VolareOh My Hero – Episode 81
81. Change (4)
I cautiously glanced at Cha Woojin.
I don’t know what to do since Woojin’s expression is so bad.
Even as I fidgeted, Woojin looked at Cha Wooreen with a serious expression.
The seven-year-old was surrounded by researchers along with the monster.
“Is her name ‘Bbibbi’? Cute. Well named~”
“Wow, the scales are fading this much! The eyes too. If you only look at it like this, it’s like an albino creature.”
“If Bbibbi goes ‘whoosh~’, snow falls!”
“Ah, that ability from the report! How does it look? Can you show us now?”
Cha Wooreen was chatting amiably with the researchers about the monster.
The monster seemed happy with the attention it was getting, flapping its wings, which couldn’t even fly, and hopping around.
-Beep! Beep!
It’s a relief that even those people over there seem happy.
If even their atmosphere was bad, Woojin would have become even more serious.
Woojin seemed slightly relieved by Cha Wooreen’s cheerful appearance.
His frozen winter lake-like eyes relaxed as if melting in the warm sunlight.
Seizing the moment, I offered him drip coffee I had stolen from the laboratory’s break room.
“It seems like we don’t have anything to do right now, so let’s take a break while drinking this. It must have been hard carrying Wooreen all the way here.”
Fortunately, Woojin accepted the coffee I offered.
“Thank you. I’m glad Wooreen seems to be in good condition right now.”
Cha Wooreen had been in good condition since she came out of the Medical Center, but I didn’t bother arguing with Woojin.
Right now, capturing Woojin’s appearance, like a scene from a fashion magazine, was more important.
Even just leaning against the wall and sipping coffee, Woojin looked like a sculpture created by God.
His skin was as clean as freshly fallen snow, his hair like the pitch-black night sky, his high nose bridge and neat eyes with eyelashes like black butterflies, and his rose petal-like lips were always beautiful. Those beautiful features were densely packed on his small face, and his long, firm body achieved the golden ratio, making him an even more perfect creation that God boasted about.
Woojin, who seemed to have gathered all the beauty of the world in one place, never got tiring to look at.
But even beauty could have worries embedded within it.
Woojin, who was drinking coffee, opened his mouth with a worried expression.
“I should have been kinder to my sister. Even if I was in a difficult situation, I was better off than her….”
Even though Woojin was saying it, I couldn’t agree.
“Woojin is already doing a good job for his sister. No matter who you bring into this world, they won’t be able to do better than Woojin. Even Woojin’s father wouldn’t be able to do that much. Woojin is a better brother than his dad.”
Woojin chuckled at my impassioned speech.
Woojin, who was smiling cutely, started talking again.
“No. If my father were alive, he would have been really good to Wooreen. He was a very affectionate person. He didn’t even want to make me, who was already much bigger than him, do chores.”
Woojin caressed the cup he was drinking coffee from with his delicate, slender fingers.
He looked like a living sculpture, but I couldn’t just focus on Woojin’s appearance right now.
It was the first time Woojin had told such a personal story.
I held my breath to listen without missing a single word.
Woojin slowly continued.
“He was a really affectionate father, but he passed away right before my sister was born. My mother also passed away while giving birth to my sister. If both of them had met my sister, they would have been good to her. Just like they were to me.”
I pondered what to say to the poignant story.
I was also surprised that Woojin had lived with his parents for quite a long time.
‘I guess he would have had parents if he was going to have a younger sister. I’ve never lived with parents, so I never thought about it. Is that why Chief Kim kept nagging me to meet various people?’
I had only seen people living alone, so I thought parents disappeared before adulthood. Like in a nature documentary, everyone becomes independent when they become adults.
Reflecting on my narrow-mindedness, I continued listening to Woojin’s story.
“That’s why I feel sorry for my sister. If my parents were here, they would have been able to take care of her more skillfully. If it were them, they certainly wouldn’t have vented their anger on her like I did.”
Even if Woojin was saying it, I couldn’t accept such self-deprecating words.
“No. Woojin is doing more than enough for Wooreen. In this gruesome world, Woojin is excessively dedicated. There might have been some immature points. Compared to parents. But the person next to Wooreen right now is Woojin. Comparing him to people who aren’t there is meaningless. They’re not there anyway. What’s important is the person who is right next to her right now. Assumptions based on people who don’t exist are just imagination anyway. Reality is more important than those imaginations.”
While rambling on, I suddenly came to my senses.
Woojin was looking down at me with a clear face.
I felt embarrassed for some reason at his face, which was like clear water that you could see all the way to the bottom.
I’m really saying all sorts of things to Woojin.
“Anyway, Woojin is a very excellent guardian for Wooreen. Someone who no one can replace. That’s what it is. He’s already doing very well for Wooreen, so don’t worry. He’s doing so well, that’s why Wooreen likes her brother so much.”
I hope that my intentions are conveyed to Woojin.
Woojin smiled at me after hearing my words.
“Thank you. I feel a lot better thanks to you.”
Woojin lightly stroked my head with his large hand.
Woojin’s touch was so nice that I unknowingly hugged Woojin’s waist.
No, I almost did.
If Cha Wooreen hadn’t called Woojin.
Woojin immediately left after hearing Cha Wooreen say she needed to pee.
I awkwardly put my hand down.

“It’s a shame that Bbibbi is the only one reacting. Personally, I wanted all the Mirnare to react.”
The researcher said a very terrible assumption without any concern.
If Cha Wooreen becomes a special existence to all the monsters there, she will fall as a subject for the experiment.
If that happens, she can’t even dream of walking around freely like now, and she will be managed as the property of the research lab, and she will be caught up in the subtle political fight within the Association, is that what you’re saying while feeling sorry?
I was very displeased, but I didn’t show it on purpose.
Anyway, Cha Wooreen didn’t become what the researcher wanted.
“Although only one Bbibbi reacted, it’s amazing. It’s definitely different from other Mirnare? It emits cold air from its mouth. It’s like a Nature-Type Esper.”
“That’s right! Maybe it’s the difference between ordinary people and Espers! Let’s do a brainwave test!”
What? Wasn’t it over? The researchers were holding on to Cha Wooreen and experimenting with the monsters all day long, and now they were bringing in an Esper wave brainwave testing device to do a test.
Cha Wooreen, who suddenly had strange devices stuck all over her body, looked at us tearfully.
“Brother… I’m scared…”
But it was the researcher who was attaching the devices who was comforting Cha Wooreen.
“It’s okay. It’ll be over soon. We’ll just do a brainwave test with Bbibbi and then we’ll be done.”
The researchers, who had no intention of stopping even though the child said she didn’t like it, took Cha Wooreen and the monster to the dark examination room.
It might feel scary to a child to have to listen to strange mechanical sounds in a dark place, but the test itself isn’t a big deal because it just ends if you wait.
However, Woojin seemed just as surprised as Cha Wooreen, perhaps because he had never seen this kind of wave test before.
Woojin immediately approached the researchers and asked about the test they were doing now.
The rude researcher answered nonchalantly.
“This? It’s an ability wave test. How can the Guide team leader not know about this? It’s just a special brainwave test for Espers, so don’t worry. It’ll be over soon.”
The researcher only looked at the monitor screen while answering curtly.
Woojin and I alternately looked at the monitor and the glass window.
Although I’m not a researcher, I’ve done wave tests dozens of times at the laboratory.
I seemed to know roughly what those curves on the screen meant.
While looking at that graph, the researchers always said there was nothing wrong. Cha Wooreen will definitely be the same.
“The results are out. The waves are a bit unique. It seems like an ability is about to bloom. But it seems like it’s the Mirnare, not the child, that’s blooming.”
“What? Blooming? Are you saying Cha Wooreen is an Esper?”
I was flustered by the unexpected story.
And Woojin was even more surprised than me.
“What, what are you talking about? Wooreen is an Esper?”
Woojin was so flustered that he grabbed my shoulders and shook me.
I couldn’t shake Woojin off, so I just let him shake me.
“Ah, well. I’m just saying it might be. Is there an ability to tame monsters? The details haven’t come out yet, so just wait quietly. This is the Esper Guide Association. Do we only see Esper blooming once or twice?”
The researcher was annoyed as if Woojin and I were a nuisance.
It was quite annoying, but what was important was Cha Wooreen’s test results.
Woojin and I quietly looked at Cha Wooreen inside the glass and waited for the test to finish.
