OMH Chapter 49
by VolareMy Oh My Hero – Episode 49
49. Hooligan (13)
From this morning, I have more to do. Before, I only had to go jogging and prepare my materials for class, but now I have to drop off Cha Wooreen at the daycare in Downtown before class.
And this week is some kind of adjustment period, so Woojin has to go to daycare with her.
So, my workload has increased.
It’s because after I drop Woojin and Cha Wooreen off at daycare and come back from class, I have to pick up Woojin again and teach him separately.
It’s like having class twice.
Not that I’m complaining. Woojin is also living fiercely in his own way, so I should support him.
Yesterday, he came back from daycare and took a pop quiz, and we decided to do another one this afternoon. Forcing it into his head, frequent pop quizzes are the best.
Anyway, I started the car to take the two of them to daycare.
The inside of the car was quiet on the way to daycare.
Woojin, who had been sick and rested for two days, seemed tired when he woke up this morning, so he was dozing off in the passenger seat.
And Cha Wooreen was in the back seat, grumbling that she didn’t want to go.
What a refreshing morning.
*
The time it took to drop them off and come back was shorter than expected, so I arrived at research Center – Building A, Room 172 earlier than usual.
This place isn’t used unless it’s for high-risk Esper special training, so the shooting range I set up was still there.
“Hmm, the target boards and bullets haven’t decreased much, so they didn’t practice.”
I thought the postures in the video they sent me looked too similar; it seemed like they copied and pasted.
While my suspicion turned into conviction, the door of Room 172 opened.
“There’s still 10 minutes left, aren’t you here too early? You always come right on time.”
“It’s better to come early today, you know? You have to reduce the number of bullets and target boards. If you don’t want it to be obvious.”
“Do you think she’ll even check that?”
“She’s the kind of person who would check and still has time to do so.”
The kids, who were chattering as they came in, became quiet when they saw me already in Room 172.
Right. They should be quiet. They were caught red-handed at the scene of evidence that they didn’t train. And they got caught trying to destroy the evidence.
Now is my time to scold them, but Jang Hana opened her mouth first.
“But, senior. Can I ask you something?”
“What is it? If it’s about the punishment for your debauchery, you’re going to experience it with your body, so you don’t have to ask.”
“No, not that… But don’t be petty about only skipping two days. You ditched class first.”
“That’s why I told you to film your shooting practice during class time and send it to me. I watched the two 3-hour videos you guys sent me without missing a single one? That’s 6 hours combined. You guys only shot for 5 minutes and continuously pasted the 5-minute clip to make it 3 hours, right? Did you think I wouldn’t know!”
“Ah, I know. We were wrong. But I haven’t asked my question yet.”
Jang Hana slipped away from the important topic like a loach.
“What is it, then?”
“Senior, why do you dress so cutely after changing your hairstyle? You’ve been wearing sporty styles instead of the sickening uniform since you were with the Guide, but now you look like a theme park worker.”
“That’s right, the hood has bear ears and a face on it. Did you have some kind of change of heart? It matches your new hairstyle well.”
“You were the EGA Association’s young monk, but suddenly you transformed into the EGA Association’s mascot.”
What nonsense is Jo Yong talking about again? But you guys were calling me a young monk? I knew that the people on our team who go out to the field with me called me that, but the fact that these kids were calling me that too is a bit shocking. If even the kids who live locked up in the Research Center were calling me that, how many people were calling me that?
I suddenly became self-conscious of other people’s attention.
‘Could Woojin be thinking of me that way too? But Woojin likes how I look now, so isn’t that okay?’
Since Woojin started living with me, he’s been picking out my clothes almost every morning, and since I grew my hair out, he’s been recommending more daring styles.
He looks happy doing it, so I wear whatever he picks out.
I didn’t know that the hoodie he picked out today had a bear face on the hood, though.
‘If Woojin likes it, there’s nothing I can’t wear, but.’
Anyway, that’s not what’s important now.
I took out the class materials I had prepared for today.
Today, we will focus on the physical training that we haven’t been able to do.
Even if these kids practice shooting until the weekend, how much will they improve? It’s enough to build up basic physical strength first before doing things like shooting practice.
I took out the bands with sandbags attached.
“Senior, what is this?”
“Supplies for you. You’ll be training with this on from today.”
“…But isn’t this meaningless for Enhancement-Types? Aren’t I the only one who’s going to have a hard time?”
Jang Hana, who saw what I had prepared, already understood what I was going to make them do and acted out as usual.
But today, I’m going to make the kids wear sandbags and run around.
Of course, like Jang Hana said, it will feel meaningless to the Enhancement-Types. Ham Soyoung and Jo Yong are S-grade physical Enhancement-Type Espers, so those sandbags will feel as light as feathers to them.
So, I prepared iron weights of suitable weight for physical Enhancement-Types.
There’s no way I wouldn’t have thought of what Jang Hana thought of. I’m a physical Enhancement-Type Esper too.
I silenced Jang Hana’s complaints with thorough preparation, and I started today’s class.
*
Maybe it’s because I suddenly increased the intensity of the training, but the kids collapsed on the floor as soon as the class ended.
I declared the end of class, so they’ll close the door of Room 172 and leave on their own. They did it yesterday and the day before, so they should be able to do it on their own.
“I have to go pick up Woojin now. Close the door well when you leave.”
Because it’s the daycare adjustment period, Woojin will be at daycare with Cha Wooreen every morning this week and will come out before lunch.
Today is the first day, so Cha Wooreen will also come out with Woojin without eating lunch.
“It’s already past 12. I have to go pick them up quickly.”
I quickly left Room 172 and got in the car.
Woojin, whom I met after 3 hours, didn’t look happy.
Cha Wooreen looked even unhappier than Woojin. She kept sobbing as if she had been crying her eyes out until just now.
‘What’s wrong? It’s lunchtime, is it because they didn’t feed her quickly enough? I came as quickly as possible, too?’
I’m so curious as to why the atmosphere is like this, but Woojin looks too unhappy for me to ask.
“Cha Wooreen. If you do this again tomorrow, your brother won’t go with you next time. Understand?”
“No…sniffle. You said you’d go together…”
“That’s so you’d do well in daycare, not so you’d think you’re going together to hit your friends?! If you do this again tomorrow, you’re going alone from now on!”
“Waaaaah!”
What the… Woojin sat down in the back seat with Cha Wooreen and scolded her.
Judging from the situation, she must have been emboldened by the fact that her brother was there and hit a kid who goes to daycare with her. Kids can do that sometimes…
But it’s also true that it’s an unacceptable behavior for Woojin, her guardian.
Well, I understand, but I wish they’d finish it quickly.
We have to go eat lunch now, you guys.
*
Thankfully, the gloomy lunchtime passed without any problems.
While we were eating, Cha Wooreen kept looking at Woojin with a pitiful expression, but she didn’t cry, so it was a peaceful time.
I have to watch Woojin’s training now, get the S-grade kids’ data from the Research Institute, and write an assignment plan to submit to the Central Center and the Research Center.
‘But what’s with the assignment plan again?’
I’m just following the assignment contents I received from the Central Center, so why are they making me write something like this? The Research Institute people are really good at making people tired.
They want me to submit a plan to take an S-grade Esper to a general civilian residential area. If they’re so uneasy, they should just not allow it at all. I’m not a researcher, so why do I have to write and submit a plan to safely manage an S-grade Esper?
Ah, could it be that the Research Institute opposed this assignment, but Director Kim insisted on doing it?
The hypothesis that suddenly popped into my head seemed plausible.
‘Well, the Guide Director still has enough power to beat the Research Institute.’
I felt a little better thinking that the researchers were also victims of Director Kim’s forceful push.
Since I found peace in my mind, I could hear the sounds around me.
“Huff, huff… Hah, Gang Hana…”
“Yes, what’s wrong?”
Woojin, who was gasping for breath during training, was looking for me.
‘How can Woojin look like a single lily in the night dew even when he’s sweating and gasping for breath?’
His slightly flushed and rosy face was like a ripe peach. Woojin’s eyelashes, like black butterfly wings, fluttered delicately in time with Woojin’s panting. Underneath them, his light blue eyes, like a winter lake, found me. His thin but luscious lips, which were panting, spoke to me.
“Just a minute… huff, if we just take a break…”
Poor Woojin couldn’t even finish his sentence because he was gasping for breath.
Well, the training must be hard. He almost died and his body isn’t fully healed yet. He also gets sick often, so his stamina must have dropped a lot, and the training must be overwhelming.
So, I have to take good care of him.
“We can’t rest after just resting a little while ago. It’s almost over, so hang in there just a little longer.”
So that he can get healthy through training.
