MFIMM Chapter 76

Heart to Heart
Pei Jiashu placed his phone on the stand, still in his office, the camera capturing his profile. Today, he was wearing a pair of framed glasses, a rare sight, perched on his high nose bridge, making him look particularly intellectual.
His fingers danced across the keyboard, the phone amplifying the sound of the typing, turning it into a peculiar white noise.
Lin Xi chattered on and on, telling Pei Jiashu about the things that had happened that day. Pei Jiashu listened with half an ear, not replying much, but Lin Xi was content just hearing Pei Jiashu’s voice.
Before long, he had yawned several times in a row and fell asleep before the video call was even over.
The office suddenly quieted down. Pei Jiashu glanced sideways, Lin Xi was sleeping on his side, his face pressed against the pillow, half of his face puffed up. He probably didn’t know what he was dreaming about, smacking his lips.
Pei Jiashu’s gaze was gradually drawn to Lin Xi, an involuntary smile spreading across his face, not even noticing Assistant Song entering.
Assistant Song called out, and Pei Jiashu frowned and looked at Assistant Song, putting a finger to his lips in a “shush” gesture.
Assistant Song quickly guessed what had happened, nodded, and quietly placed the documents on Pei Jiashu’s desk.
He accidentally glanced at the screen and saw Lin Xi’s sleeping face. No wonder Pei Jiashu was smiling so gently before he came in.
He originally wanted to tell Pei Jiashu to take care of his health and return to the production team in a couple of days, but seeing this scene, he said nothing and silently walked out, closing the door behind him.
When Lin Xi woke up the next day, the video call had already ended, but judging by the time, Pei Jiashu must have hung up long after he fell asleep.
He grabbed his phone and asked Pei Jiashu, “What time are you coming today?”
Pei Jiashu hadn’t replied yet, so Lin Xi went to wash up first.
Pei Jiashu said that his flight was probably around 6 pm, and it might be later if things didn’t finish up. The flight would take three or four hours, so he told Lin Xi not to wait for him.
But Lin Xi spent the whole day paying attention to the time, hoping it would pass faster and faster.
At five o’clock, he asked Pei Jiashu if he had gone to the airport.
Pei Jiashu didn’t reply. Lin Xi thought that things might be a bit uncertain. He sighed, put down his phone, and went to set up their stall with Wei Qian and the others.
Today, Ke Yun was wearing a bear mascot costume, and Wei Qian was following him closely, afraid that Ke Yun would fall if he didn’t watch the road.
At six o’clock, Lin Xi asked again if Pei Jiashu had boarded the plane, but still no reply.
He didn’t give up and asked Assistant Song, who finally replied.
Assistant Song: Mr. Lin, there was a sudden problem with the project, and President Pei is in a meeting right now.
Lin Xi wanted to ask a few more questions, but school had already let out, so he immediately put down his phone and started working seriously.
This was the busiest time, and Lin Xi didn’t have time to look at his phone. He was mechanically packing boxes and collecting money, until after seven o’clock when the crowd gradually thinned out.
Ke Yun took off the bear head and sat on the road without any grace, fanning himself. His forehead hair was soaked with sweat, and he asked Lin Xi with concern, “Lin Xi, didn’t Pei say he was coming back today? Why haven’t we heard anything?”
“Oh, I just asked Assistant Song. He said they had an emergency meeting and might be a little late,” Lin Xi said, tidying the table and restocking the empty boxes.
He wasn’t sure either. Time stretched out second by second, and he even wanted to fly to Pei Jiashu’s side immediately.
“I don’t want this one, I want the strawberry one.” The child complained unhappily when Lin Xi gave the customer the wrong candied hawthorn.
Lin Xi came back to his senses and exchanged it for a string of candied strawberries.
Wei Qian looked at Lin Xi worriedly and said, “Lin Xi, go rest with Ke Yun for a while.”
Lin Xi knew that he wasn’t in the right state of mind. Fortunately, there were fewer people now, so he sat down next to Ke Yun. Ke Yun carefully placed his bear paw on Lin Xi’s head.
“What’s wrong? Let the bear heal you!” Ke Yun said in a squeaky voice. He already had a cute appearance, and now he was even cuter, making Lin Xi couldn’t help but chuckle.
“It’s nothing. I just feel a little lost. Pei Jiashu is so busy with work. He doesn’t even have time to text me. He hasn’t even told me when he plans to come.”
Lin Xi fidgeted with the hem of his clothes. Ke Yun said, “My brother has always been like this since he was a kid. When he’s busy, he doesn’t care about anything else. But you have to believe that he’s so busy now because he’s eager to see you.”
Eager to see me…
Lin Xi chewed on the last sentence, feeling sweeter and sweeter in his heart.
Just then, the phone in his arms suddenly vibrated. It was a call from Pei Jiashu.
“Sorry, I was in a meeting just now and didn’t check my phone. I’m having Assistant Song rebook the tickets now.”
Lin Xi glanced at the time. It was almost eight o’clock already. By the time Pei Jiashu booked the tickets and flew over, it would be past twelve o’clock.
“It’s already so late. You just finished the meeting. Go home and rest first, and come over tomorrow,” Lin Xi said considerately.
But Pei Jiashu was already methodically instructing Assistant Song to book his tickets. “It’s my fault for not keeping my promise to you. Now I just want to see you as soon as possible.”
All of Lin Xi’s high-sounding words were blocked by Pei Jiashu’s words. He responded softly.
Perhaps it was because Pei Jiashu had been so direct lately that he didn’t care about anything else and blurted out to Pei Jiashu, “I want to see you too.”
“Okay.”
After eight o’clock, Lin Xi and the others packed up their stall. Pei Jiashu sent a message saying that he had boarded the plane. Lin Xi held his phone and suddenly said to Ke Yun, “You guys go back first. I want to go to the airport to pick up Pei Jiashu.”
Ke Yun’s pupils shook. “It’ll take at least three hours for Pei to get here. Are you going to the airport alone to wait for him? Why don’t I go with you?”
The production team’s staff also stopped Lin Xi and called the director for instructions.
Wei Qian grabbed Ke Yun’s bear paw and pulled him aside, whispering, “The two of them are newlyweds and haven’t seen each other for a while. What are you going to do there?”
“It’s too dangerous for him to be alone at night!” Ke Yun said disapprovingly.
In the end, the production team sent a staff member to accompany Lin Xi. After Lin Xi’s negotiation, the accompanying staff only followed Lin Xi into the airport, leaving a camera for Lin Xi to hold himself inside.
Lin Xi waited for Pei Jiashu alone in the waiting hall. The airport became less and less crowded, and Lin Xi was getting sleepy. He dozed off several times on the cold chair.
He fell asleep vaguely several times, but couldn’t sleep well, always waking up after a while.
Each time he woke up, he would nervously check the time on the big screen.
With ten minutes left before Pei Jiashu’s plane landed, Lin Xi finally couldn’t sit still and ran to the closest spot to the arrival gate. He stared intently at the exit, waiting for Pei Jiashu to come out.
When the mind is in a state of high tension, people will ignore many negative states. Lin Xi didn’t feel sleepy at all now, but was unusually excited.
This excitement reached its peak when he saw Pei Jiashu.
Pei Jiashu came out of the VIPVIP channel. At this time, there were only a few people left in the airport. He saw Lin Xi waiting at a glance, and confirmed it several times in surprise. Then he picked up his suitcase and ran in the airport.
Lin Xi also ran towards him and crashed into Pei Jiashu’s arms.
Pei Jiashu hugged him tightly and asked in surprise, “Why did you come to pick me up? Didn’t I tell you to rest early?”
Lin Xi buried his face in Pei Jiashu’s shoulder and rubbed against him, smelling the faint mint scent mixed with men’s cologne, with a mature business style.
He hadn’t even had time to take off his glasses, and his eyes were already bloodshot from not seeing him for a few days.
Lin Xi touched Pei Jiashu’s face with some heartache. He didn’t know if it was his illusion, but he even felt that Pei Jiashu had lost two pounds.
Pei Jiashu held Lin Xi’s hand. It was still a bit cold in the early morning, and Lin Xi’s hand felt like an ice cube.
He took off his coat with heartache and put it on Lin Xi. “Why don’t you know to wear more clothes?”
The warmth of the clothes and the scent were transferred to Lin Xi, and his body quickly warmed up.
The production team’s car was parked outside the airport. Lin Xi gave the key to Pei Jiashu, and the two drove back to thehomestay all the way.
After a hurried wash, both of them lay wearily on the bed.
Lin Xi almost wanted to fall asleep as soon as his head touched the pillow, but he stubbornly kept his eyes open to look at Pei Jiashu.
“Why aren’t you asleep yet?” Pei Jiashu rubbed Lin Xi’s hair. Lin Xi’s hair had just been blow-dried by him, and the soft strands of hair were sticking to his fingertips.
Lin Xi suddenly moved and snuggled up to Pei Jiashu, hugging Pei Jiashu’s waist.
“Li Zhijian mocked me.”
“Hmm?” Pei Jiashu’s spirit was already a little scattered, but he still tried to listen to Lin Xi.
“He said that only couples who have been temporarily marked will be distraught after being separated.”
Pei Jiashu’s sleepiness evaporated in an instant. “So after I left, you missed me so much that you were distraught?”
If it were normal, Lin Xi would definitely scold Pei Jiashu for being so narcissistic, but perhaps the separation made both of them cherish the time they could be together especially.
He just snuggled into Pei Jiashu’s arms and asked, “Don’t you miss me?”
“I miss you. I don’t even dare to open my phone. I’m afraid that as soon as I see your message, I can’t help but fly over to find you.”
“Lin Xi…” Pei Jiashu buried his face in Lin Xi’s hair. “I miss you so much.”
All the blood in Lin Xi’s body was surging in one direction. He said to Pei Jiashu without any scruples, “I miss you too.”
“What I mean is, I like you too.”
Lin Xi suddenly looked up at Pei Jiashu. This was the person he had liked since he was young, not just the superficial shell or his disguised perfect appearance.
But it was someone he still wanted to keep liking even after understanding Pei Jiashu’s true nature, even if he crashed into a wall.
The person he confessed to didn’t react at this time, like someone who had been paused in a movie.
Lin Xi looked at Pei Jiashu nervously until Pei Jiashu belatedly hugged Lin Xi tightly, saying with a choked voice, “Thank you for still being willing to like me.”
