MRFD Chapter 10
by VolareChapter 10
Rong Yi finally remembered that he had cooked a bowl of noodles over an hour ago when the phone he was talking on was burning hot. It was too late.
He rushed to the kitchen amidst a burning smell, only to see flames soaring. The pot was completely unrecognizable, the kitchen paper next to the stove was blazing, and the rubber gas pipe on the side was about to melt completely.
Rong Yi was dumbfounded.
Then the grease trap of the range hood fell off right in front of his eyes and landed in the fire with a thud.
Rong Yi suddenly woke up from the shock, mustered his courage, held his breath, rushed in, and turned off the main gas valve. Then, he grabbed his phone and fled out of the house, cutting off the call with Zhou Li without even explaining before dialing 119.
He ran downstairs and looked up, thick smoke billowing from the kitchen window.
Watching his home engulfed in flames, Rong Yi’s heart sank.
Many people had gathered downstairs in the complex, discussing the situation. Rong Yi even saw the old couple who lived upstairs from him in the crowd, anxiously worried.
He felt ashamed and was about to go up to apologize and comfort them when the fire truck arrived.
The high-pressure water gun extinguished the flames quickly, leaving only a dark window.
Rong Yi stared blankly, and then he saw his landlady, who lived nearby, rushing over in a panic, screaming.
The kitchen was mostly burnt down, the hallway walls were blackened, and the entire house floor was soaked in water.
The usually amiable landlady was trembling with anger, demanding an explanation from Rong Yi.
Rong Yi couldn’t explain. He felt like he was about to be finished.
Compensation was inevitable. Besides that, it seemed like he was about to become homeless. Although it was a rented house, he had lived there for several years and had some feelings for it. The landlady was indeed a good person. She had hardly raised the rent over the years, mainly because he paid the rent promptly, never delayed, and had good hygiene habits.
But now, the landlady was determined to turn against him.
After packing up a few things and sorrowfully finding a Black Hotel with terrible conditions that didn’t require ID Card, he received a message from the agency as soon as he sat down. It said that they were entrusted to assess the damage to the house and would discuss the specific amount of compensation with him in a week.
Rong Yi checked his bank balance, his heart filled with despair.
So this is what they meant by unexpected events. He only hoped that this series of tragedies had reached the lowest point of his life, and that things would start to turn around.
Living in a Black Hotel was not a long-term solution. The immediate priority was to find a new place to live.
Perhaps his luck was really starting to change. The next day, after he posted a request for rental information in his social media, he immediately received a call from Liu Yuan.
“This is really a coincidence. A friend of mine has been looking for a tenant for the past few days,” he said. “He’s in a hurry, and the price is very low. Do you want to go take a look?”
The address he sent was some distance from Rong Yi’s original residence, but it was not far from his company, and there was a direct bus. The neighborhood wasn’t remote, and compared to the quoted price, it was indeed a great value.
This was simply great news for Rong Yi, who was now poor and homeless.
“He doesn’t have many requirements, just that the tenant has good hygiene habits, doesn’t disturb him usually, and can move in as soon as possible,” Liu Yuan introduced. “It seems like he can’t stand his father coming over to stay every few days. Oh, by the way, can you cook?”
“I can,” Rong Yi nodded. “Do you need a cooking partner?”
“That’s even better. He’s easy to talk to and doesn’t lack money. If you can help with the cooking, you might even get a lower price.”
Rong Yi was particularly anxious and took half a day off in the afternoon.
When he arrived, the employee of the agency showed him the house, introducing it while chatting with him.
After hearing about Rong Yi’s experience, he sympathized with him greatly and immediately called the landlord, exaggerating his miserable situation and praising him.
Rong Yi stood aside, listening to him saying on the phone, “This young man is clean, handsome, and very polite. He’s easy to get along with, so don’t worry. Besides, he’s too miserable. If he doesn’t find a place soon, he might end up on the streets. Why don’t you take some time to come back and sign the contract quickly.”
He felt a little embarrassed, so he walked around the house alone again. Although it was a shared accommodation, the overall decoration style was simple and generous, and the room left for him was not small. The furniture looked new, and he was more and more satisfied as he looked.
When he came out of the room again, he saw that the agent was standing in the corner of the room, covering his mouth and talking quietly on the phone, “I’m serious, he’s really handsome. If you don’t believe me, I’ll secretly take a picture for you later.”
Rong Yi coughed lightly behind him.
The other party immediately straightened his back and lowered his hand: “Okay, I got it. I’ll take him back to the company now and wait for you to come over.”
When he followed the staff to the agency, Rong Yi suddenly realized a very serious problem.
He didn’t have his Identification Card.
Just as the contract was about to fail, the legendary landlord finally appeared.
“This is Mr. Chen,” the agent who had been accompanying Rong Yi enthusiastically introduced the two of them. “This is Mr. Rong. You can ask each other any questions you have now. As for the Identification Card problem, it’s not urgent… What’s wrong with you?”
Rong Yi also wanted to ask, what exactly was going on?
He stared blankly at Chen Ke Yao in front of him, feeling that the whole world was joking with him.
Chen Ke Yao’s expression was also very interesting, first a look of surprise, then he frowned. After a long while, seeing that Rong Yi was still incredulous but did not say anything, he finally cleared his throat and took the initiative to ask, “…Your house burned down?”
Truly, nothing good comes from a dog’s mouth.
A nameless fire suddenly rushed to Rong Yi’s head, and he immediately picked up his luggage and wanted to leave.
The agent looked puzzled: “Mr. Rong, what’s wrong? Where are you going?”
“I’m not renting.”
Who would want to live with this person? He would rather be homeless.
The agent belatedly realized: “So you know each other?”
“Wait a minute,” Chen Ke Yao’s voice came from behind. “Didn’t you receive your Identification Card? I sent it to you.”
Rong Yi, who had already stepped one foot out of the door, paused and turned his head back.
He still didn’t speak. Chen Ke Yao frowned again and continued, “Your Identification Card fell in my car, and I sent it to your company the next day. Didn’t you receive it?”
He really hadn’t.
There were indeed many packages piled up at the front desk of their company, but they had to be picked up by themselves. Rong Yi hadn’t shopped online recently, so he naturally didn’t think of looking through them.
So it really was picked up by him. Rong Yi, who had originally thought of breaking it and throwing it in the trash if it were him, couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.
…But it was too late to know now, he had already reported it lost.
His expression changed constantly without saying a word. Chen Ke Yao sighed: “About that day, I…”
Rong Yi looked at him, and his heart suddenly ached.
“There’s nothing to say,” he lowered his eyes. “Let’s just pretend we never met.”
Chen Ke Yao hesitated, and finally nodded: “Okay.”
Seeing that a business deal was about to fall through, the real estate agency who had witnessed the whole process had something to say.
“Wait a minute! Since you know each other, that’s even better, right?” He quickly walked to the door and stopped Rong Yi. “Mr. Rong, didn’t you just say that you have to be careful with every penny because you have to pay a lot of money? The place you’re staying at now has poor conditions and isn’t cheap, right? Besides, you haven’t gotten your Identification Card back. If you go to rent a house somewhere else, people who don’t know you probably won’t agree!”
Rong Yi had never lost his Identification Card before and didn’t know if the lost one could still be used after being reported, so he hesitated.
Seeing that his attitude had softened a bit, the agent quickly turned back to greet Chen Ke Yao: “Mr. Chen, what do you say? You don’t mind filling in the identity information later, right?”
But Chen Ke Yao didn’t say anything.
Actually, his attitude was very obvious. Although he wasn’t as resentful as Rong Yi, it was clear that he wasn’t very willing to continue to have any contact with Rong Yi.
It was just that he couldn’t bear to refuse because Rong Yi’s situation was indeed miserable.
But how could Rong Yi be willing to accept his favor?
Although the agent was frantically winking between the two of them and looked very hardworking, Rong Yi still decided to disappoint him.
Just as he was about to say goodbye, Chen Ke Yao’s phone suddenly rang.
He looked down at the screen and muttered in a low voice, “…Oh my god.”
Then, he didn’t answer the phone, but suddenly raised his head to look at Rong Yi. Rong Yi’s scalp went numb from his strange gaze, and he took a step back subconsciously.
Chen Ke Yao took a step forward instead: “Do you want to stay at my house for one night first?”
A bunch of terrible images popped into Rong Yi’s head in an instant.
After all, even if the previous experience was painful, the Alpha in front of him was still his favorite, whether it was his appearance or his figure. And his words now sounded really ambiguous.
The phone was still ringing. Seeing that he was still frowning and didn’t say anything, Chen Ke Yao had no choice but to press the answer button first.
After that, Rong Yi heard a somewhat funny one-sided conversation.
“Dad… Why are you here again?” Chen Ke Yao’s expression was extremely tangled. “I’ve rented out the house, really. Someone is moving in today. There’s no place for you to sleep. It’s true… Why would I lie to you? We’ll come over together later. No need, no need to come over, I’m not going back for dinner, you don’t have to bring me anything. …I don’t! Don’t talk nonsense, okay?”
The agent who was still standing next to Rong Yi said to him in a low voice, “Look, he’s so pitiful, why don’t you help him out.”
Chen Ke Yao’s home was in the next complex.
The two of them walked to his house one after the other, completely silent.
It was really strange how things had developed like this. Rong Yi felt that his heart was a little twisted, and there was a strange pleasure in being able to indirectly let Chen Ke Yao receive his favor.
The two of them stopped suddenly when they reached the downstairs of the building.
“If my dad is still there when we go up later, don’t pay attention to anything he says.”
Rong Yi nodded behind him.
Chen Ke Yao obviously couldn’t see it, but he didn’t emphasize it, and went upstairs with a preoccupied look.
Rong Yi had been here once in the afternoon, so he could be considered familiar with the way. After getting off the elevator, he looked towards the direction of Chen Ke Yao’s door and saw a middle-aged man standing at the door.
Hearing the movement, the middle-aged man immediately turned around. And Chen Ke Yao, who was walking in front of Rong Yi, did open his mouth: “Dad, what are you doing standing at the door…”
The middle-aged man didn’t say anything, just frowned, his eyes passing over his own son to look at Rong Yi behind him.
Rong Yi stood frozen in place, made eye contact with the Alpha, who had a five-point resemblance to Chen Ke Yao but looked much more mature, for a few seconds, and then secretly swallowed.
He didn’t dare to speak, but he couldn’t help but feel a little flutter in his heart.
Oh my god, this uncle is so handsome.
The author has something to say:
Afternoon.
The agent said on the phone: Really, he looks like an Alpha, super handsome!
The agent said to Rong Yi: The landlord is a very handsome Alpha!
Chen Ke Yao & Rong Yi’s heart: LUCKY~?
