    Chapter 21 (2)

    “Ask.”

Yan Bai was about to leave, connecting Su Su’s personal terminal to his own. He quickly operated the device, explaining as he worked, “I can directly change your personal terminal to have human permissions, but that would be easily discovered by others. So, I only modified it to give you access to a game-related privilege. This way will be more discreet. In the future, when you log in to the game area, you’ll find a game called ‘Star War.’ Log into the game and then contact me. My game name is ‘Bai.'”

Su Su was somewhat confused. “Why are you afraid of being discovered? What would happen if you were found out?”

The warmth in Yan Bai’s eyes disappeared, revealing a kind of cruelty that was unfamiliar to Su Su. “You would die.”

“Huh?” Su Su was skeptical. “But why? Why can’t mermaids use human networks?”

Yan Bai chuckled at the question. “Oh, my naive cousin, do you really think the relationship between humans and mermaids is good?”

“Isn’t it? Aren’t they always forming alliances?” Su Su asked. From his perspective, if they wanted to become each other’s partners, didn’t that indicate a good relationship?

“Of course not. Humans are a selfish bunch. They only want to exploit the mermaids’ reproductive genes to cultivate better offspring, which is why they force mermaids into marriage alliances with them. While they make use of mermaids, they are also wary of them. They hope mermaids will always remain weaker than them, forever serving as their breeding machines.”

“They hypocritically keep mermaids under the guise of helping, providing them with a comfortable life and ample resources to keep them complacent. Yet, they do not teach them any real skills. For those mermaids who enter marriage alliances, they offer them a virtual network filled with childish entertainment, dull games to numb their senses, making them behave. They absolutely prohibit mermaids from accessing human networks, knowledge, technology, or the true civilization that belongs to humans.”

“But…” Su Su wanted to argue that it wasn’t like that, since Qi Hanyi, despite saying he disliked him, had treated him well all along.

Yan Bai interrupted him, “You may not believe it, and you might see some mermaids on the forums living well, even gaining human favor. But that’s merely an attitude of keeping a pet. Like someone who likes to have a cat or dog around. When you do not pose a threat to them, they might show some affection and indulgence. However, when you become a threat to their safety, they will not hesitate to abandon or even kill you.”

Su Su was stunned by Yan Bai’s words. Was it really like that? Humans marrying mermaids wasn’t because they liked them? Was that why Yi Qing seemed so resistant before the marriage alliance?

Then what about Qi Hanyi? Why did he hate mermaids?

Seeing Su Su shaken by his words, Yan Bai pressed on, “If you don’t believe what I’m saying, you can find an opportunity to test it. Just say you heard about a game called ‘Star War’ at a banquet and ask Qi Hanyi if he would let you play it. It’s just a game after all. If he’s unwilling to agree, I think you’ll see clearly how humans view mermaids.”
