LWDC Chapter 9
by VolareChapter 9 – Your Name
Late at night, the taxi sped along the sparsely trafficked main road.
Ning Fei couldn’t find a comfortable position in the car, shifting around until he finally managed a half-leaning posture. Although he was restless now, he deserved it. After all, when he was enjoying himself earlier, he hadn’t considered the consequences.
And thinking about what happened after that enjoyable time, Ning Fei looked at the new bandage on his hand, feeling a mix of amusement and exasperation.
After their shower, “Mr. Good Deeds” brought the first aid kit from home to the master bedroom to re-bandage Ning Fei’s hand. The original bandage had gotten soaked during their second round of “horsing around” in the bathroom.
This time, the alcohol cleaning of the wound was personally done by Director Duan, so Ning Fei complacently stretched out his right hand, swiping on his phone with his left. Director Duan saw blood seeping from the cuts on his fingers and palm, and was a little displeased: “Don’t you remember you’re injured? Do you have to flail around so much?”
“I didn’t notice at the time, who would care about that? Would you care if you were me?” Ning Fei replied casually, “Besides, it doesn’t hurt that much… hiss.”
Director Duan, who was pressing the alcohol swab hard on his wound, said: “Didn’t you say it doesn’t hurt?”
“You’re pressing so hard, you could create a wound even if there wasn’t one!” Ning Fei glared at him unhappily, pulled his hand back, and quickly wiped it clean himself. He found liquid bandage from the kit and sprayed it on the cuts. By the time he put the bottle down, Director Duan was already waiting with the bandage.
Ning Fei inexplicably felt that this was the other party’s way of apologizing, or rather, a show of weakness. Sure enough, when Ning Fei stretched his hand out to the man again, the man silently began to re-bandage it for him.
It was as if the little argument just now had never happened.
Of course, Ning Fei also knew that if he directly asked, “So proactive, are you apologizing to me?” the other party would definitely deny it. This man was very stubborn, and didn’t say much sweet talk even during “business.” But his technique was indeed good, and even without those fancy atmospheric words, Ning Fei was willing to give him a five-star rating.
And five-star level excellent players are not always encountered.
So Ning Fei had the idea of ”being good friends for a while” and decided to inquire about this man’s information. If he doesn’t like to come to him, Ning Fei can take the initiative to go to him. There’s no need to wait for the other party to call first.
“Um, although it seems a bit absurd to ask you this question now…” Ning Fei was uncharacteristically a little embarrassed, and couldn’t help giving himself a warning shot, “But I’m asking, don’t be angry, okay?”
Director Duan raised his eyes to glance at him, then lowered his eyes to continue bandaging. Ning Fei saw that he was silent, and was about to ask when Director Duan suddenly threw out a sentence: “…Are you sure you want to ask now?”
“Otherwise?” Ning Fei was confused, “Do I have to pick an auspicious time?”
“Although you’re in my house now, and we’ve slept together, your question and sleeping together are two different things.” Director Duan tied the bandage, cut off the remaining part, and his tone sounded a bit cold, but also a bit serious, “We’ve only met three times in total, and haven’t you considered your identity…”
“Stop, stop, wait a minute.” Ning Fei felt more and more that something was wrong, and interrupted him, “Director Duan, are you misunderstanding something? I don’t want to date you!”
Director Duan: “…”
The scene fell into a subtle embarrassment for a while. Ning Fei wanted to laugh, but held back, and said seriously: “What I want to ask is another question.”
Director Duan: “…What?”
Ning Fei: “Director Duan, would it be convenient to tell me your full name?”
Director Duan fell into an even longer silence.
Ning Fei knew that asking this question at this time was too strange, but there was no way around it. He hadn’t found a suitable opportunity to ask before. Now that he wanted to be “good friends for a long time” with him, he couldn’t not even know his name, right?
But faced with this question, “Mr. Good Deeds” not only didn’t answer, but his expression gradually became strange. He frowned, and his scrutinizing gaze was fixed on Ning Fei, as if he was looking at something incredible.
Ning Fei thought to himself, could it be that asking his name had touched some taboo, so he had to say again: “If you can’t tell me your real name, can you give me a nickname?”
Director Duan finally opened his mouth slowly: “You don’t know my name?”
“Should I… know?” Ning Fei quickly recalled their encounters. The first time was at a club, an accidental eye contact amidst the bright lights and drinking, and they went straight to a hotel room upstairs, but broke up before reaching the end. The second time was at the entrance of the bathroom at the Baron’s Villa, and they separated after only a few words. The last time was today, so few face-to-face moments, there was no way he could remember wrong.
“I didn’t ask you what your name was before, and you didn’t say it. You didn’t give me your business card when I gave you mine.” Ning Fei was very sure of his memory, “Even knowing that your last name is Duan was from hearing your subordinates say it, how would I know your full name?”
The man frowned and said, “You don’t know who I am, so how did you know what I was doing at the Baron’s Villa last time?”
Ning Fei thought for a long time before remembering which sentence he was talking about, and replied: “I didn’t say I knew, you asked me back ‘Why do you think I’m here’, I thought you wanted to keep it a secret, so I deliberately replied like that.”
The man gritted his teeth a little: “You really don’t know who I am? You don’t know and you came with me, you climbed into my bed the first time we met?!”
“Huh? The first time we met, it was clearly both of us willing to go upstairs, what do you mean I wanted to climb into your bed?” Ning Fei’s eyes widened a little, “Who do you think you are, thinking that others want to climb into your bed because of your identity?”
The man said in a deep voice: “I am Duan Yunhong!”
Ning Fei: …Who?
The man saw that he didn’t react, and sneered: “Perhaps you’re more familiar with another name of mine – Andrew.”
Ning Fei reacted immediately: “…The director of ST Agency?!”
How could he not know? He knew too well! ST was going to focus on developing its business in the Greater China region, and transferred the famous artist director Andrew from the U Continent headquarters to be the boss of ST Greater China! However, this Andrew rarely accepted interviews before, and photos were hard to find, so after Ning Fei read ST’s information, he only remembered the name, and didn’t know what he looked like at all.
Now, Ning Fei can only say “Oh dear.”
No wonder he didn’t call him. Who would humble themselves like that, they probably thought that not calling back was a trick to play hard to get.
In a flash, Ning Fei remembered something else: “Then the ST headhunter came to poach me, was that your instruction?”
Duan Yunhong said with a cold face: “You’re thinking too much.”
Ning Fei wasn’t sure originally, but seeing him like this, he guessed that it was most likely his decision. This Director Duan thought that Ning Fei knew his identity, and then Ning Fei approached him on purpose because he wanted to enter ST and ascend, and then this Director Duan asked the headhunter to poach Ning Fei. Everything made sense, how logical!
However, the fact is that Ning Fei not only wouldn’t go to ST, but he and Duan Yunhong could be considered enemies.
“Um, there might be some misunderstanding between us.” Ning Fei sighed in his heart, but still asked a little unwillingly, “I definitely won’t go to ST. But, if possible, can we… temporarily forget each other’s positions and meet again in the future?”
Duan Yunhong’s tone was still very cold: “What do you think?”
Ning Fei thought to himself, why is it a rhetorical question again, a familiar pattern.
But looking at Duan Yunhong’s expression, Ning Fei felt that the fact that he hadn’t been thrown out the door was already because he was well-mannered. Ning Fei didn’t want to linger and be annoying, after all, this matter was about mutual willingness. So he gathered his bathrobe, grabbed his phone and got out of bed: “Ah, okay, then I won’t stay here and make you angry.”
Duan Yunhong didn’t say anything, let alone stop him, he just watched him coldly as he left the master bedroom.
The sound of footsteps gradually faded away, and the noise from outside disappeared. Duan Yunhong didn’t move, but when his eyes swept to the first aid kit next to him, he inexplicably felt that it was an eyesore.
After a while, Ning Fei returned to the entrance of the master bedroom: “I’m taking this outfit of yours, just consider it compensation for tearing my shirt last time. I won’t wear it out in the future, don’t worry.”
After saying this, Ning Fei had nothing else to say, so he said: “Then I’m leaving, good night. Oh, one last thing, your technique is well-practiced!”
He even stretched out his thumb to give a thumbs up while speaking, but he didn’t dare to look at Duan Yunhong’s reaction and immediately turned around and left. He guessed that the other party would be unhappy again, so he slipped away quickly before he got angry.
Ning Fei went all the way to the vicinity of the gate, and Duan Yunhong didn’t come out of the master bedroom. Ning Fei was glad that he had wiped his blood-stained shoes clean in the afternoon, changed into them neatly, and left the gate with his blood-stained clothes.
When he got downstairs and hailed a taxi, just as he got in the car, he remembered one thing.
–The good wine he said he would give him! He should have picked it out and taken it first!
*
Ning Fei’s lower back was sore, so he didn’t take his car back overnight, but went home to sleep.
He turned off all the alarms before going to bed, and turned off his phone again, regardless of the consequences of doing so. When Ning Fei slept until he woke up naturally, it was already past one o’clock in the afternoon.
Since coming to this world, he hadn’t slept so comfortably in a long time.
Turning on his phone, sure enough, there was a string of missed call reminders and text messages, and a pile of unread messages on the APP. Ning Fei quickly browsed through them, most of them were from people in the studio asking him why he hadn’t arrived at the work site in the morning, and a few were about work negotiations. And, a message sent by Su Cenxi this morning: [Why haven’t you arrived yet? Achen said something might have happened to you, what happened?]
Combining the information from other people, Su Cenxi went to work normally today. So does he know what Gu Hechen did or not? Ning Fei thought about it, regardless of whether Su Cenxi knew or not, this information was disgusting.
If he knew, this information was hypocritical. Seemingly concerned, but actually probing Ning Fei’s situation.
If he didn’t know, this information would reflect that he knew that something might have happened to Ning Fei, and that Gu Hechen might understand the situation, but he didn’t ask Gu Hechen about it at all.
In short, Ning Fei pretended not to see this tea-flavored message.
He also pretended not to see the messages about work docking. Ning Fei even turned on airplane mode, only connected to wifi, and spent the day leisurely on his own.
–Want to deal with me, okay, then let you see what your fate is without me.
