Chapter Index

    “There! Up there!”

Someone shouted. Everyone turned their heads in response to the sound, only to see two figures standing on the roof of the three-story building next to the square.

Yes, figures. There were no lights high up, only some moonlight, making it difficult to make out two dark figures moving in the wind. Cyrus stared up blankly, immediately realizing that the fluttering figure should be Ning Fei’s cloak.

Hood, black, long cloak, this was Ning Fei’s standard outfit when he was practicing medicine.

But today there were two figures, which one was Ning Fei? And who was the other one beside him?

“Ugh…!” Duke Bartley’s belated pain finally took effect. The severe pain in his ears made him groan in agony, and blood poured out from between the fingers he was using to cover his ears. He was in great pain, but his reaction was not to run away immediately, but to have the flames of his anger completely ignited, and he shouted, “Guards! Where are the guards? What are you all doing?!”

The guards finally reacted and raised their shields in front of the Duke, who continued to shout loudly while covering his ears: “Fire! Fire!!! There will be a heavy reward for killing Ning Fei!”

The archers all nocked their arrows and aimed. Shooting upwards from below, in a dimly lit area, everything was disadvantageous, but the archers still dared not fail to fire. As for the safety of the residents who had gathered near the square late at night to watch the excitement, it was even further from their minds.

    Swish swish swish—!

A cold light streaked across the night sky, heading straight for the dark figures on the roof! However, almost at the same moment, one of the dark figures raised his hand, and wind blades burst forth, his robe flying, as the invisible blade slashed towards the arrows!

In an instant, the arrows were either cut in half, falling weakly in mid-air; or the iron arrowheads were hit head-on by the wind blade, as if they had hit something hard, and the broken arrowheads were actually blown back into the crowd; even more, the wind blade finally hit the shield formation composed of several shields head-on, and the huge impact directly knocked people flying!

    “Ahhh!!!”

Duke Bartley and the others standing behind the guards were also knocked down hard. The Duke’s ears were injured again, the pain made his eyes black out, and he was almost unable to move for a moment. And right before his eyes, a servant who was not standing behind the shield formation had half of his arm sliced off by the wind blade, and was screaming miserably.

Further out, the guards in the square and the onlookers were all injured by stray arrows. Adding to the screams, the civilians scattered in a panic, and the residents watching the excitement nearby slammed their windows shut, for fear of being accidentally injured. Even the fully armed guards who had been surrounding Duke Bartley became loose and cowardly, subconsciously wanting to stay away from the Duke. Because their thick rattan shields had been almost cut through by the wind blades; the iron shields had also been hit with huge dents, making them basically impossible to hold, let alone withstand another blow from that terrifying invisible blade.

Screams and bloodshed intertwined, and when people truly faced death, very few were not afraid of it.

“Where are you going?! Come back, don’t retreat! The devil Ning Fei is right here, kill him!” Duke Bartley said this as he climbed up, but he grabbed a servant and refused to let go, trying to use him to shield himself. And his footsteps seemed to be retreating in another direction: “Also, go call the Pope! Quickly call the Pope…”

At this moment, the servant who was almost unable to breathe from being grabbed by him saw one of the figures in the shadows also raise a bow and arrow!

Even if it was just a rough outline, it could be seen that the bow was bigger than the guards’. Between movements, the reflection of the moonlight slid down the bow and string, sharp and cold.

“He, he… Duke Bartley’s name has been removed!!!” the servant screamed, his fear of death making him struggle desperately, “There is no Duke’s name in the square now! The target is not him! Don’t shoot, don’t shoot!!!”

Indeed, although Duke Bartley’s name had been written here twice, the first statue had been removed, and the second pool stone had been disrupted. According to Ning Fei’s death prophecy, Duke Bartley should not be killed.

But would a “devil” reason? Obviously not.

    Nock, aim, fire, swish—!

At the critical moment, Duke Bartley tightly grabbed the servant’s back, his tall body shrinking behind the servant’s thin body. Only a “Ugh!” of a whimper was heard, and the servant trembled all over, the vibration transmitted to the Duke. Then, the servant fell down.

He was not dead yet, but he would die, and soon. A black iron arrow had almost pierced through his chest, and blood gushed from his chest and mouth. He faced upwards, his eyes staring blankly at the sky above. The scattered crowd allowed him to see the night sky, and the bright moonlight gradually blurred in his vision.

No one would come to his rescue, no one had time to mourn. Everyone thoroughly understood that the devil would not stop because the name had been changed, nor would he be restrained by “civilian hostages”. Today, it seemed to be Duke Bartley’s death day.

Seeing that the figure upstairs seemed to want to nock another arrow, the servants and guards were completely panicked, and hurriedly moved away from the Duke, for fear of being grabbed by him and becoming the next victim. The Duke’s “impregnable wall” completely collapsed in this way, even if the Duke scolded and shouted to kill everyone, it could not stop the crowd from running away. The Duke was about to die, who would still be afraid of his verbal threats? A dying man was not to be feared.

The figure on the roof had nocked another arrow.

The Duke finally couldn’t bother to scold people anymore, and staggered in the opposite direction. However, he could not run fast, on the one hand, he was physically in pain and inconvenient to move due to blood loss and the previous impact; on the other hand, he was running towards the crowd, but most people just wanted to shake him off and stay away from him, so as not to be implicated in the disaster of killing.

Only one person did not avoid him.

Accurately speaking, Duke Bartley bumped into him. Taking a closer look, it was actually his youngest son, Cyrus.

“You brought him here… It’s all your fault!”

The Duke completely didn’t think about why his youngest son was standing here blankly and not moving, he just grabbed his youngest son and cursed: “You seduced him first, why didn’t he kill you first?!”

Cyrus seemed to have just come back to his senses, and looked at his father. Just as he opened his mouth, as if to say something, a heart-stopping shriek came from the air. Duke Bartley didn’t even think about it, he grabbed Cyrus and turned him around!

    But this time he miscalculated.

An arrow went straight through Cyrus’s body and stabbed hard into the Duke’s abdomen, skewering them both.

    “Ugh…!”

Cyrus couldn’t speak, stared at the Duke, opened his mouth, and said the last sentence of his life in a voice that was not even a gasp, that no one could hear.

“Father… You… You have also atoned for your sins.”

When Ning Fei returned to Duan Yunhong’s castle, it was impossible to tell whether he was happy or unhappy.

“What, do you still think I ruined your plan?”

Duan Yunhong took off the cloak on his body and threw it aside: “Because I insisted on killing someone whose name wasn’t on the square, and even brought along another one?”

“…No.” Ning Fei was also untying the rope of his cloak, and turned his head to glance at him when he heard this, “I said, you do as you please.”

After a pause, Ning Fei said again: “It’s you, your coachman saw you carrying a bow and arrow getting on and off the carriage. Are you sure there’s no problem?”

Yes, the bow and arrow were Duan Yunhong’s.

All the arrows were shot by Duan Yunhong, and of course the people were also killed by Duan Yunhong.

It was just that with the last arrow, Ning Fei felt that he was wasting time by playing with people with one arrow to the left and one arrow to the right, so he added wind magic to his arrow, making the already powerful arrow even more unstoppable. And it was this arrow that directly pierced through Duke Bartley and his son Cyrus.

“What’s the problem?” Duan Yunhong replied indifferently, “I said, at worst, I’ll just roam the world with you, it’s not a bad thing.”

“Who’s roaming the world with you.” Ning Fei sneered, “When it comes time to run away, I still have to drag you, do I like suffering?”

“Weren’t you very skilled at bringing me along today?” Duan Yunhong suggested, “If you think I’m taking up your hand, then next time you can let me hug you from behind.”

Ning Fei raised his eyebrows: “Amazing, it’s been less than seven days since the enhancement of light magic, and you can say flirtatious things again?”

“To be honest, it hasn’t faded yet, the effect is still very obvious.” Duan Yunhong also laughed, “But I’ve found the trick again.”

“I don’t want to hear it.”

“Subordinating to your superior, especially violating a ‘superior’ who is very sacred in your heart, is very exciting.” Duan Yunhong still said, “I didn’t quite understand why there was such an XP before, but now I understand. It’s very awkward, but it’s quite addictive.”

    Ning Fei: “…”

Awkward XP matches awkward people, I have to say, it’s quite a match.

But Ning Fei didn’t want to think about how much credit he had for the appearance of this person’s new XP. He turned and left.

Duan Yunhong looked at his back and noticed that his condition should be a little relaxed. But the words that Duan Yunhong really wanted to ask had not yet been spoken.

Duan Yunhong actually wanted to ask Ning Fei what he felt about Duke Bartley’s death, this person who had troubled him the most had died. Especially… he had killed him himself, and Ning Fei had witnessed all of this, what were his thoughts?

But now didn’t seem like a good time.

Duan Yunhong maintained a calm expression, followed Ning Fei, and said, “I asked someone to prepare a midnight snack in advance, take a bath and eat something before going to bed?”

Ning Fei tilted his head: “Open a bottle of wine?”

It was already early in the morning, and it would be dawn in a few hours, and he was still drinking? Duan Yunhong met his eyes and didn’t ask any more questions: “If you want to open it, go and choose which bottle to open. Taking a bath will just sober you up.”

Ning Fei smiled and left contentedly.

After taking a bath, the two sat opposite each other to eat a midnight snack. It was very silent, very quiet, and the sound of the spoon hitting the bowl was clear.

Duan Yunhong was still unable to figure out Ning Fei’s mood, so he still didn’t ask those questions. But he wasn’t too anxious anymore. Ning Fei was very sensitive in this world, and if he wasn’t willing to say it himself, Duan Yunhong was afraid that he would poke at his negative thoughts if he asked too much.

The current Ning Fei was very contradictory, very rigid, and very fragile.

After deciding not to say any more, Duan Yunhong’s actions after eating the midnight snack were much more decisive. He just looked at the half bottle of wine left and asked, “Do you want to finish this bottle of wine, or leave it for later?”

Ning Fei also glanced at the bottle of wine and said quietly, “With the wine storage technology of this era, will it still be the same taste tomorrow?”

Duan Yunhong was very straightforward: “Then let’s not, let’s open tomorrow’s tomorrow.”

“Forget it, let’s just finish it.” Ning Fei raised his eyes again to glance at the man opposite him, “Earl, would you like to join me?”

Duan Yunhong said, “Are you asking me to drink all night?”

Ning Fei said, “To be precise, it’s going to the roof to blow the night wind, drinking all night waiting for the sunrise, are you going?”

    Duan Yunhong still didn’t ask.

    He said, “I’m going.”
