    Chapter 258: Can’t Spoil Him

The moment Shí Yan stepped into Fengqi Palace, he caught sight of the mother and son duo in the peach blossom grove to the east. A small fire fox nestled on the chair beside them, making for a truly pleasant scene.

He walked towards them with a gentle expression, but as he approached, the tenderness on his face was gradually replaced by jealousy.

“Jiuchu, give Yu’er to the nanny to hold, you’re always holding him like this, be careful you tire out your arm.”

Jiang Jiuchu glanced up at Shí Yan, who was walking over, “I’m not tired. Besides, it’s not like I hold him every day.”

She pouted, thinking to herself, it’s already bad enough that I’m not allowed to breastfeed Yu’er, and now he’s complaining that I hold him too much.

Shí Yan pursed his lips, then sat down beside Jiang Jiuchu, and with a swift motion, picked up Shí Yu, who was grinning foolishly at Jiang Jiuchu, from her lap and placed him on his own.

The sudden movement startled the young Shí Yu, who was about to pout when he heard Shí Yan say, “Your mother is tired from holding you, can’t Father hold you?”

Jiang Jiuchu slapped Shí Yan’s arm. “You scared him.”

Shí Yan felt wronged by the slap. “I didn’t. I clearly lowered my voice. Jiuchu, you’re being so biased now that you can’t tell right from wrong.”

Jiang Jiuchu felt helpless. She had never seen a father like this. Besides, when had she ever not been able to tell right from wrong?

“I didn’t say you were scolding him, I said you just snatched him over. Didn’t you see how startled he was?”

Shí Yan glanced at Shí Yu, seeing his large, glistening eyes shifting back and forth between him and Jiang Jiuchu. He chuckled, “You’re a boy, and will be the ruler of a country in the future. You can’t be scared by a simple lift like that.”

Jiang Jiuchu was speechless. “He’s only two and a half months old, okay?”

Just as Shí Yan was about to speak, Shí Yu, who was sitting on his lap, suddenly burst into tears. He looked at Jiang Jiuchu with a puzzled expression, “Why is he crying all of a sudden?”

The nanny quickly stepped forward and smiled, “Your Majesty, the young prince is either hungry or needs changing. This old servant will take him to check.”

Upon hearing this, Shí Yan’s eyes lit up, and he quickly handed his son over to the nanny.

Then, he glanced at Greenery, who had followed the nanny, and said to Greenleaf, who remained, “No need to serve here, go guard outside.”

After giving the order and seeing Greenleaf retreat, he scooped Jiang Jiuchu up and sat her on his lap. “My dear, how old did you say Yu’er was?”

“Two and a half months, why?” Jiang Jiuchu asked, while adjusting herself to a comfortable position on Shí Yan’s lap.

Shí Yan leaned close to Jiang Jiuchu’s ear and said flirtatiously, “Then… how about we let Yu’er sleep with the nanny tonight?”

Jiang Jiuchu’s face flushed red, thinking about how, since she had given birth to Shí Yu, Shí Yan had been worried about her health and had been letting her rest until now.

She didn’t want to refuse him, but other than breastfeeding, Shí Yu was always with her, especially at night. As long as the nanny hadn’t brought him back in time after feeding him, he would cry.

“But… if Yu’er wakes up at night and doesn’t see me, he’ll cry.”

Shí Yan held Jiang Jiuchu and gently refused in her ear, “No, we can’t spoil him like this, otherwise, it’ll be even harder to correct him when he’s older.”

“But he’s not even a hundred days old.” Jiang Jiuchu had never seen anyone start disciplining a child before they could even talk.

She hesitated for a moment and suggested, “Then let him sleep in our room, anyway… he’s still small and doesn’t understand anything.”

Shí Yan stroked Jiang Jiuchu’s lips, his eyes deep, and said, “No, didn’t you just say yesterday that he’s smart and can understand what you’re saying? We can’t spoil him.”

    “But…”
