    Chapter 162: Explanation

Jiang Jiuchu looked at her and suppressed the impulse to tell her to get out. She walked directly to the bookshelf, randomly grabbed a book, and sat down opposite Lin Yue.

Lin Yue’s mouth twitched. Why was this Seventh Prince’s wife jealous in a way that was different from others?

Shouldn’t she be angrily telling her to get out, or acting like a proper lady and subtly asking her to leave?

Or, if she were more spoiled and proud, she could directly pull the Seventh Prince away, or even have the Seventh Prince kick her out!

But instead, she silently sat next to her and started reading a book. What was that supposed to mean?

She glanced at Shí Yan, who wasn’t even looking in their direction, and a subtle smile curved her lips. It seemed this Seventh Prince was just as indifferent to his wife!

But even if they were newly reunited, it shouldn’t be like this! Especially since they hadn’t been married for long.

It seemed their relationship really wasn’t that good!

“Your Highness, the meal you prepared for the Prince is here,” Greenery’s voice came from outside the study.

Hearing this, Jiang Jiuchu immediately put down her book, ran to the door, took the food tray from Greenery, and gave her an appreciative wink.

Shí Yan slightly raised his eyes, watching Jiang Jiuchu run to the door, his eyes flashed. When she turned around, he quickly looked away.

“Your Highness, eat while it’s hot.” Jiang Jiuchu walked up to Shí Yan, placed the tray on the desk in front of him, and then dragged a chair over to sit across from him.

Shí Yan glanced at Jiang Jiuchu, put down his book, stood up, picked up the food tray, walked away from the desk, and left the study.

Jiang Jiuchu was so shocked that her eyes widened instantly. She turned her head to look at Shí Yan walking out with the food tray, and thought he was going to throw out the meal she had brought.

She was stunned for a moment, then quickly got up and followed him to the door, only to see Shí Yan walking towards the dining hall with the meal.

She secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Good, good, she was so scared.

Jiang Jiuchu turned back to look at Lin Yue in the study, “The study is an important place. It’s not convenient for Miss Lin to be here alone. You should take this book back to read!”

“Alright.” Lin Yue stood up, took the book in her hand, walked to the door of the study, bowed slightly to Jiang Jiuchu, then stepped out.

Seeing Lin Yue leave, Jiang Jiuchu quickly returned to the desk, picked up the sweet soup Lin Yue had brought, and opened the porcelain lid. Seeing that the soup was full and untouched, she raised her lips and put it back in its place, then walked towards the dining hall.

At the entrance of the dining hall, Jiang Jiuchu hesitated before stepping inside and sitting opposite Shí Yan.

Shí Yan paused in his eating, looked at Jiang Jiuchu, who was staring at him, and asked, “Is there something you need?”

“No, nothing, you eat first.” Jiang Jiuchu felt that it was indeed not good for her to watch him eat like this, so she got up and waited at the door of the dining hall.

Shí Yan looked at Jiang Jiuchu, who was standing at the door and hadn’t left, and seemed to guess that she had something to say.

He quickly finished eating, and as he stepped out of the doorway, he threw a sentence at Jiang Jiuchu, “If you have something to say, then say it.” Then he walked towards the study.

Jiang Jiuchu was stunned for a moment, then quickly followed.

Inside the study, Shí Yan leaned lazily against the back of the chair, looking at Jiang Jiuchu with an unserious expression, “Speak! What is it?”

Jiang Jiuchu looked at Shí Yan like this. Although he had put away his coldness, he had put on a mask between her and him.

    “I’m… I’m sorry.”

A single “I’m sorry” undoubtedly triggered something in Shí Yan’s mind. He laughed angrily, “What is the Princess Consort sorry for? Weren’t you just bringing me dinner? What’s with all the apologies? Do you like saying these three words so much?”

Jiang Jiuchu was taken aback by Shí Yan’s words, and instantly understood the implication in his last sentence.

She sighed inwardly that this was a bad start, how come she couldn’t get off to a good start?

She paused, then mustered her courage and sat down opposite Shí Yan, “When I was six years old, because my father was suppressing bandits, I was kidnapped by mountain bandits as a threat. Later, Brother Fu rescued me from a cellar.”

“Along the way, I learned that Brother Fu’s family had been killed by the bandits and that he had no parents, so I asked him to come back to the mansion with me and let my parents raise him to repay his kindness.”

“But as we were about to walk out of that mountain forest, Brother Fu fell into a deep pit. The pit was very deep, he couldn’t get up, and he was injured.”

Shí Yan just listened quietly, wanting to hear, but also not understanding why she was telling him all this?

His hand on his robe, unconsciously slowly clenched into a fist.

Did she want him to listen and then be moved by her deep feelings for him, and let her leave?

Jiang Jiuchu looked at Shí Yan and continued, “I was very scared at the time, but I had to continue walking out alone, firstly because I was worried that the bandits would find us and chase after us, and secondly because I was worried about Brother Fu’s injuries.”

She said here, and then explained, “Although I was young at the time, I didn’t want others to lose their lives because of saving me.”

“But I fainted at the foot of the mountain, and when I woke up, I was already in my parents’ arms, and a day and two nights had passed.”

“When my father went to rescue Brother Fu again, he was nowhere to be found.”

After Jiang Jiuchu finished speaking, she looked at Shí Yan and said sincerely, “So I felt guilty, and this matter has been stuck in my heart.”

“That night, for the first half of the way, it was drizzling and the forest was dark, and then the rain stopped and the moon came out, and the mountain road was dim. Everything is engraved in my mind.”

“So I got drunk, and my thoughts probably went back to when I was a child, and I felt ashamed of him, that’s why I said that.”

Jiang Jiuchu deliberately told Shí Yan about her childhood experiences, hoping he could understand that the fear of childhood cannot be forgotten, regardless of anything else.

If she could stir up a little bit of his heartache, then that would be even better.

Listening to Jiang Jiuchu’s experience, Shí Yan seemed to be able to imagine a six-year-old girl walking out of the forest alone.

He suppressed the heartache that rose in his heart, looked at Jiang Jiuchu, and said directly, “What’s there to be ashamed of? Didn’t you see each other again later? Don’t tell me you failed to repay him with your body?”

Jiang Jiuchu’s eyes shook, looking incredulously at Shí Yan, who was smiling but not smiling.

He… why did he say that? Did he know that she and Brother Fu were in love with each other?

She swallowed secretly, “Probably in February of this year, I did see Brother Fu, and I was very happy that he was still alive.”

“Later…” Jiang Jiuchu looked at Shí Yan sitting in front of her, and opened her mouth with difficulty:

“Later… we developed feelings for each other, but at this time, the court painter came to the door, and then I married you.”

Shí Yan chuckled, “So you failed to repay his kindness again, no, it should be said that you failed to repay him with your body, so you felt guilty and cried like that?”

Cried like that? Cried like what?

Jiang Jiuchu wanted to refute, but faced with Shí Yan’s naked gaze, she felt a little ashamed and could not refute, after all, Greenery said she had spoken with a crying voice.

Looking at Shí Yan’s expression, it didn’t seem to have changed because of her words.

She looked away, lowered her eyes slightly, thinking about what her mother had said. Her mother said that the most important thing was to let Shí Yan know that she only had him in her heart now.

Thinking of this, she hardened her heart, looked up at Shí Yan, “But I don’t like Brother Fu anymore, I like you.”
