Chapter Index

    What? Secretary Wang actually…

On Sunday, Wang Ling went to the hospital for a check-up as scheduled. Director Hu determined that given his current health, the routine gland examination could be skipped. Knowing that Wang Ling was in a stable relationship with his partner, she asked him to undergo another ultrasound. Wang Ling’s gland was healthy; the main focus was the reproductive cavity, an organ formed by the fusion with an enigma, which required significant attention.

Although Wang Ling disliked the sensation of the cold instrument pressing against his lower abdomen, he followed the medical advice because it concerned his body.

Director Hu looked at his ultrasound on the computer and said, “The elasticity of the reproductive cavity is excellent and healthy. You are being nourished very well by your partner. However, you need to be careful when having intercourse with your enigma; try not to cause internal bleeding in the cavity, or it will be difficult to manage later.” Research on enigmas is limited, especially concerning the reproductive cavity formed on Alphas after fusion, which varies from person to person, making this area of study more complex. However, Mr. Wang’s reproductive cavity was very healthy and even well-nourished by the enigma. Her worries in this regard were minimal, only concerned about young people seeking intense stimulation during intimacy.

“Understood, Doctor.” Wang Ling looked at the cavity in his lower abdomen displayed on the screen. After accepting it, he was less resistant, though he still wouldn’t say he liked it.

By Monday, they were back to work. Having just finished a project, everyone felt a bit more relaxed. Since Wang Ling had also handled some work over the weekend, he was naturally even more at ease.

Not far away, Qian Xi was slacking off, the company’s main group chat displayed on her computer screen. She was grinning as she stared at the monitor.

D: “I never thought I’d actually encounter an enigma in Z Nation. That’s novel.”

T: “How so? How did you recognize they were an enigma?”

U: “The pheromone suppression was incredibly strong, and I could sense it with my Alpha instinct. The day before yesterday, Saturday, I went to buy Alpha suppressants and ran into a man taller than me at the pharmacy. The scent of alcohol pheromones coming off him nearly pinned me down.”

R: “Releasing pheromones in a public place? That’s incredibly rude, isn’t it?”

U: “The man bought powerful barrier patches, got into a luxury car parked in a temporary spot nearby, and stuck the barrier patches onto his gland.”

    R: “Alright then.”

A: “Rushing out the door, didn’t even put on a barrier patch?”

U: “Who knows? Anyway, after smelling it, I felt that the enigma’s partner must be the most miserable one.”

    Q: “How so? I’m a Beta, I don’t quite understand.”

Z: “What is there to say? Enigmas usually choose Alphas, but which Alpha likes being suppressed?”

Q: “Then I want to ask, why do Omegas like biting their Alpha’s gland, and why do they like leaving so many marks on the Alpha?”

    A: “…”

    C: “…”

    P: “…”

D: “…Are there Omegas that fierce?”

R: “No matter how you look at it, that doesn’t seem like something an Omega would do…”

    Y: “Agreed…”

X: “I think that sounds like something an enigma would do…”

    S: “Possible…”

W: “@Q, who did you see that on? Someone from our company?”

Qian Xi saw herself tagged. She thought about the bite marks and traces she had left on Wang Ling’s gland, and the group’s speculation. A shocking hypothesis formed in her mind. She glanced at Wang Ling, who was not far away. She retracted her gaze. Others in the group were still tagging her. Her hand, resting on the keyboard, paused. She typed: “No one in particular. I saw someone asking online, and I was curious too.”

R: “You scared me. I thought the enigma’s Alpha partner was working here at our company. Seriously.”

    Q: “Why worry about that?”

U: “What else? An Alpha partner Marked by an enigma is bound to carry their pheromones. No matter how much they try to cover it up, they can’t hide it. What if we smell it?”

S: “Hard to say. Since there’s little research on enigmas, maybe it can be covered up.”

A: “You can smell an Alpha’s pheromones on a Marked Omega, let alone an enigma.”

G: “Everyone here is a medical expert, guessing about enigmas they haven’t even necessarily met.”

A: “Hey, hey, don’t go too far.”

R: “Actually, I’m mainly worried about what happens when an Alpha Marked by an enigma goes into heat. If he suddenly goes into heat, half the company would suffer, right?”

    S: “That’s true.”

U: “So I think Alphas Marked by enigmas are all very unlucky.”

Qian Xi looked at the chat screen, feeling a little worried. She recalled months ago when someone mentioned smelling extremely suppressive pheromones on Wang Ling. There was also a period when Wang Ling looked very haggard, frequently going to the hospital, and taking time off to say he was accompanying his partner through their heat. The deeper Qian Xi thought, the more shocked she became. Just then, that figure approached her. She saw Wang Ling’s footsteps stop right behind her.

She gripped the mouse, instantly switching the interface to a document screen. She turned her head and smiled, “What is it, Secretary Wang?”

Wang Ling noticed Qian Xi’s screen switched very quickly, but he hadn’t seen anything. He knew there wasn’t much urgent work lately, and Qian Xi had been working overtime for several nights recently, so he didn’t press the matter.

Qian Xi watched Wang Ling’s retreating back, looking at the back of his neck, where three layers of powerful barrier patches were stuck.
