Chapter Index

    Give me an inhibitor.

The male beta doctor listened, his expression serious as he pulled up the computer screen. He maintained his composure and said, “I will transfer your case file to the Director. You will need to go to the Director’s office to get authorization for the inhibitor prescription. Your heat cycle will be very difficult. I will first measure your cycle period now. Even with the inhibitor, you must avoid high-intensity work during your heat.”

Wang Ling watched as his case file on the doctor’s computer screen was transferred to a middle-aged, bald female beta named Director Hu. The female beta had sharp, upturned eyes and a somewhat thin, long face, giving her a severe appearance. She looked at Wang Ling’s file, and her already stern face became even more serious. She asked, “Did Dr. Shen tell you about the heat cycle?”

Wang Ling nodded. As the capable secretary to Nan Ningyue and Xu Tongxiao, he showed no panic on his face, but his palms were still sweating cold. He added, “He measured my cycle period.”

Director Hu nodded and then said, “An alpha’s heat cycle will be very painful for you. I looked at your lab results. Your compatibility is very high, reaching a rare ninety-eight percent. If possible, I recommend you directly find the enigma who Marked you. Then you won’t need inhibitors for your physiological cycle.”

Director Hu looked at the handsome alpha before her. After being Marked, Wang Ling was surrounded by a strong barrier of absinthe Pheromones, isolating everyone else.

“The alpha inhibitor for enigmas is not yet perfect. It might not be able to suppress your heat cycle,” Director Hu emphasized.

Ninety-eight percent compatibility? Wang Ling thought about how the person’s movements had been gentle and skilled at first. But when his green orange Pheromones spread out, that person’s actions became rough and forceful. He clearly felt himself being pressed down hard beneath that person. The commotion inside him followed instinct chaotically, and physiological tears streamed from his eyes, followed by the biting and licking of the gland on the back of his neck.

A wave of nausea surged up, but his lowered face appeared exceptionally calm and resolute.

“Give me an inhibitor,” Wang Ling looked at the bald female beta and said, “I don’t know him, and it’s impossible for me to go find him.”

Wang Ling collected the medication and the prescription slip. He used a blocker patch to cover the bite mark on his gland. The moment it was covered, the scent of absinthe around him faded considerably. He checked the time; it was only three in the afternoon. He had taken the whole day off, and he wasn’t due back at work until tomorrow morning. He suddenly felt a little tired, and surprisingly, he had a thought of not wanting to return to the company.

In another location, Xiaohui looked at the piles of documents and files several tens of centimeters high. She looked at the department files transferred by the assistants on the screen and felt a headache coming on. Without Wang Ling’s help, her workload had significantly increased.

Qian Xi, the female beta assistant who liaised with the Publicity Department, placed the newly printed documents on her desk and said, “Sister Xiaohui, I’ve organized these for you. You just need to look at the last page.”

Xiaohui listened. While frantically looking at the data on the computer, she thanked Qian Xi, “Thank you so much, Qian Xi.” Qian Xi knew she was busy and didn’t linger. The promotion of the new product was effective. Although other companies were now promoting the previous medicine, based on the company’s reputation in the pharmaceutical industry, their drug price and efficacy met the treatment expectations of most ordinary patients. Their marketing efforts were also very successful, and their sales volume had reached a very good level.

Qian Xi’s work was much lighter than before. Since Wang Ling took the day off, she openly opened her computer to slack off.

A: “Did you smell Secretary Wang’s Pheromones? They were so overwhelming I didn’t dare get close to him.”

B: “It was a smell of alcohol. It stung my eyes a bit just getting near him. Is he about to enter his susceptibility period? He took the day off today.”

    F: “I remember his Pheromones weren’t alcohol-scented, were they?”

S: “His Pheromones are green orange…”

D: “What are you guys talking about? What happened to Secretary Wang?”

T: “Nothing much. I smelled Secretary Wang’s Pheromones today, and they completely suffocated me. Plus, he had a mark like that on his neck.”

Y: “Did he start dating a top-tier alpha???”

E: “Maybe… Although I don’t know if alphas dating alphas is the current trend, I admire him. I still prefer sweet and soft omegas.”

R: “Could it be an enigma?”

A: “Isn’t that a legendary gender? Where do you see them in reality? There are only a few enigmas globally, and they usually work as oligarchs making money abroad. How could he encounter one so easily domestically?”

I: “True. Monopolizing things domestically is illegal and results in fines. Cutting off resources will also be stopped by the state. It’s more comfortable to engage in capitalism abroad. You can even participate in politics there using capital.”

V: “Talk about whatever you want, I don’t care about cross-gender discussions. Just contain your Pheromones and consider us low-level omegas.”

Qian Xi looked at the messages and thought about how Wang Ling looked during the meeting this morning. She felt that Wang Ling wasn’t doing very well. Although Wang Ling was usually extremely strict with the Secretariat staff, she didn’t wish for anything bad to happen to him. After all, Wang Ling was very important to the Secretariat.

Xiaohui had also instructed the Secretariat that people on leave should generally not be disturbed unless it was urgent. She looked at her phone. She wasn’t close to Wang Ling and didn’t know what to say, so she finally put her phone down.

Wang Ling rested at home. He thought it would be better to take leave and stay home during future heat cycles. Later, he could ask the doctor if it was possible to remove the gland entirely.

Wang Ling went to work the next day as usual, appearing no different than normal, except that the blocker patch he wore was much thicker than before, and the scent of absinthe still lingered around him.

He arrived at the company and saw an exhausted Xiaohui. She had heavy dark circles under her eyes. She hadn’t realized how hard Wang Ling usually worked, taking on so much responsibility. Now that all the work was handed over to her, combined with her original duties, she hadn’t even gone home and had worked straight through until today.

She looked at Wang Ling as he entered the company. Wang Ling didn’t say anything and took a stack of files from her desk.

Seeing his action, Xiaohui said, “I’ve finished everything. You don’t need to take these files.”

Wang Ling paused, helped organize and put the files away, and said, “Thank you.”

Xiaohui smiled when she heard that. “You certainly owe me a big thank you.”

“How should I thank you?” Wang Ling was clueless, unable to even think of treating her to a meal, as he rarely engaged in ordinary social interaction.

“You accompany President Nan and President Xu to the business seminar, and you give me time to sleep, alright?” Xiaohui said. All she wanted now was sleep.

    Wang Ling nodded in agreement.
