When Shang Jue arrived home, he only saw Shang Lü sitting on the sofa, working on his computer. The alpha scanned the living room, but couldn’t find his brother anywhere.
“Dad, is gege not back yet?”
The man wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, looking gentle and refined, and his tone was amiable. “Not yet. Your school is close to his cat cafe. Why didn’t you wait for your gege on your way back?”
Upon hearing this, the corners of the alpha’s lips pressed down slightly, his thin lips tinged with a faint coldness. The depths of his eyes were calm, not easily stirred.
Shen ChiTai co-owns a pet shop with a friend near the school. Since the shop opened, the omega has spent most of his time there, busy with various tasks. Shang Jue is allergic to furry animals, so the family has never kept cats or dogs.
“Then I’ll go upstairs first.”
He told the man on the sofa, turned, and went back to his room to take a quick shower. When he came out of the bathroom, he had already changed clothes.
He was wearing a plain black sleeveless vest, and the shorts were simple and loose. His calf muscles had smooth and attractive lines, and the muscles that bulged when his arms flexed exuded the vigor and energy unique to healthy athletes.
He had just come downstairs and sat down on the sofa when he received a message. He opened WeChat and glanced at it briefly. It was He Yi, that annoying guy again. This better be important, or else…
The next second, the alpha frowned slightly, staring at the boy in the photo. He was wearing a thin white shirt, with the collar casually open, revealing a section of his slender, fair neck.
The sleeves were rolled up twice for convenience. He was holding a fluffy and docile ragdoll cat.
Shen ChiTai.
Shang Jue asked where the photo was taken.
The other party replied that it was at the entrance of the cat cafe. He Yi happened to be passing by and thought the scene looked nice, so he took a picture. He definitely wasn’t a stalker or had any peeping habits.
Shang Jue’s eyes flickered, staring at the omega holding a cat in the photo. Does he really like these cats and dogs so much? Shen ChiTai in the photo was smiling, showing an adoring expression toward the little animal.
The alpha lowered his eyes, his expression slightly cold, and his gaze gradually dimmed as the screen went dark.
Shen ChiTai didn’t get back until almost dinner time. As soon as he entered the door, he saw Shang Jue standing by the door with his arms crossed, looking forward to his return. Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought he was a family dog, wagging its tail excitedly at the sight of its owner, his eyes sparkling with joy.
The omega’s eyes widened slightly, his face still calm and gentle, and he said softly, “A-Jue, I’m back.”
Shang Jue’s gaze inadvertently swept across his mouth. His thin lips were pale but beautiful enough to stir one’s heart. His Adam’s apple bobbed uncontrollably. Just a glance made his mouth dry.
“Gege was at the cat cafe all day?”
“Yes.” Shen ChiTai felt uncomfortable being stared at so openly. Even though the two brothers had a good relationship, anyone would feel awkward being stared at like that.
The omega lowered his eyelids, a fleeting look of inexplicable panic in his eyes. “I’ll go take a shower, change my clothes, and then come down for dinner.”
Shang Jue nodded and chuckled in agreement, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes and vanished without a trace.
Shen ChiTai lowered his head and quickly brushed past him. The alpha tilted his body slightly, his dark eyes following his retreating figure upstairs, with a meaningful look. The straight line of his lips and the calm, undisturbed depths of his eyes revealed his terrible mood at the moment.
When Shang Jue was little, he thought that this unique omega was his alone. This was the gege who loved him the most. Even if they weren’t blood-related, even if he had no mother and no friends to talk to, heaven still favored him.
The intellect, warmth, and hint of coldness that was hard to detect emanating from Shen ChiTai consumed him and he couldn’t break away.
He was enveloped in all of the omega’s gentleness, and his eyes were full of his meticulous care and love for him, encompassing almost all of his memories of the past twenty years.
They spent the most time together and knew each other best. It seemed destined that they would never be separated in this lifetime, and he was overjoyed.
But later, he realized that he was just a ridiculous and laughable clown. When the omega’s aloofness and neglect descended upon him, he felt as if he had fallen into an ice cave and instantly woke up.
When he came downstairs again, Shen ChiTai had changed into loose, milky white trousers. The collar of his lapel sweatshirt was slightly blue, and the exposed skin was fair and translucent. His legs were slender and straight, so beautiful that people couldn’t take their eyes off them.
Shang Jue sat on the living room sofa, raising his eyes several times to look in his direction. His eyelids were sometimes lowered, his lips tightly closed, and all that could be seen was his sexy, slightly protruding Adam’s apple rolling up and down violently. His body seemed to be suppressing a violently surging current of air.
There was movement in the kitchen. Shang Lü was cooking. He had come back a little late today, and everyone hadn’t eaten yet.
Shen ChiTai took a sip of water and turned his head, meeting his gaze. The action of holding the water glass in his hand unconsciously became a little more forceful, and his feet seemed to be nailed to the ground, his legs too heavy to lift.
“A-Jue, why are you staring at me?” he couldn’t help but ask.
“Your butt.”
“Huh?” Shen ChiTai looked a little blank, reaching around to touch his backside. There was nothing there. He looked up at Shang Jue with a puzzled expression.
Shang Jue crossed his legs and said leisurely, “It seems smaller than before.”
“…” Shen ChiTai’s cheeks flushed suddenly. He had been busy with the cat cafe lately, and he had lost weight. “I’ll go to the kitchen and see if Dad needs any help.” After he finished speaking, he turned and walked towards the kitchen, pretending to be calm, before Shang Jue could say anything else.
Shang Jue’s eyes followed his thin back with a deep gaze, and the corners of his lips twitched slightly.
At the dinner table, Shang Lü asked Shang Jue how his studies at school were going recently. Shang Jue replied in a faint tone that it was okay.
He was already a senior, and besides studying, he had to learn how to manage the company from Shang Lü and handle some internal company affairs. If nothing unexpected happened, Shang Lü would gradually let him take over the company after graduation.
The man then turned to Shen ChiTai with a gratified look. “ChiTai is twenty-five this year, right?”
“I just turned twenty-five last month.”
Shang Lü nodded slightly. “Take your time. You’re at an age where you can find a girlfriend.”
Shen ChiTai paused slightly in the middle of chewing, lowered the bowl he was holding, hesitated for less than half a second, and said softly, “I do have a boyfriend I’ve been with for two years. I was originally planning to tell the family after he graduates.” Xu Chen was already a senior and was about to graduate, so it wouldn’t hurt to say so now.
“Boyfriend?” Shang Lü, who was sitting across from him, was stunned. His chopsticks stopped moving for a moment. His son suddenly had a boyfriend out of nowhere, and they had been together for more than two years.
The family had never heard Shen ChiTai mention that he was in a relationship before. It was all so sudden. It was normal for the man to react like this.
Shang Jue’s reaction was exactly the same as his father’s.
He had thought that, given Shen ChiTai’s personality, he would definitely find a woman to marry and have children with, and have a happy family of his own.
The alpha raised his eyes and re-examined the omega sitting diagonally across from him meaningfully.
As if drawn by some mysterious force, Shen ChiTai raised his head and inadvertently met Shang Jue’s eyes.
His heart skipped a beat, and his neck stiffened as if it were out of control. His expression was a little awkward, but he pretended to be calm and looked away, avoiding the gaze that fell on him.
Shen ChiTai could clearly feel his heartbeat accelerating continuously, and this feeling was getting stronger and stronger. The rhythm of his heartbeat was also different from usual. This was not an illusion. Realizing that this was real, his out-of-control heart seemed to be beating faster and faster.
He and Shang Jue were in a blended family. His mother brought him, who was nine years old at the time, to remarry into the Shang family. Now it had been almost sixteen years. Five years ago, the woman was diagnosed with breast cancer in its late stages. Later, she persisted for a while but still didn’t make it.
During the sixteen years, he and Shang Jue had been together almost day and night. They attended the same junior high school and high school. When he was in high school, Shang Jue was in junior high school.
Every time after school, he would go to the school next door to wait for Shang Jue to get out of class. The brothers had a harmonious relationship, and Shang Lü, as a father, had always seen it.
The man asked him what the other party’s family situation was like.
Shen ChiTai only said that his family also ran a company, and then glossed over the topic in a few words. Shang Lü didn’t ask any more questions.
He, as a father, shouldn’t interfere with his children’s relationships. As long as the two truly loved each other, he didn’t want to be a heartless person who broke them up. When both parties had negotiated, he would find an opportunity for the other party’s parents to meet, and the matter would probably be settled.
Throughout the entire meal, Shen ChiTai always felt that there was a gaze staring at him. But he also had an unspeakable sense of subtlety in his heart, but it wasn’t aversion.
Shang Jue looked at the omega who was only focused on eating and didn’t raise his head the entire time, and cursed inwardly. The expression of someone who was already not smiling directly turned cold to the extreme.
After dinner, Shen ChiTai sat in the living room downstairs for a while before getting up and returning to his room. Shang Jue also stood up behind him, saying that he still had something to do, and followed closely behind the omega to the second floor.
Shen ChiTai had just entered the room and was about to close the door when a hand was faster than him, propping it open.
The omega looked up at him with a strange look in his eyes. “A-Jue, what are you doing?”
“I’m not doing anything.” Shang Jue was slightly taller than the omega, looking down at Shen ChiTai with a smile in his eyes, and said obediently, “Gege, you know I’m allergic to cats and dogs.”
Shen ChiTai’s expression froze for a moment. He lowered his head and looked at the clothes he had completely changed into, then raised his head to look at the alpha in front of him again. “I took a careful shower when I came back. If you’re not relieved, I can go take another one.”
“It’s not necessary.” He lowered his eyes slightly, and in a place where the omega couldn’t see, a touch of restraint and extreme forbearance flashed through those smiling eyes, cold and without warmth.
When Shang Jue raised his head again, his eyes were smiling. He wrapped his arms around the man’s waist and hugged him tightly, resting his chin on the omega’s neck and rubbing affectionately.
“Gege stays in the shop all day long, and I can’t go. It’s hard to even see you.”
Shen ChiTai was about to say that he was too clingy. He looked up at him, intending to scold the alpha a few words. But when he met Shang Jue’s hot, sticky gaze, Shang Jue’s childhood appearance suddenly popped into his head.
