Chapter 93: The Duan Family’s Youngest Son Has Been Found

Time flew by, and it was already May. The heavy coats were replaced with light short sleeves. Lin Sui, wearing a pair of overalls with a bear design, was propping up his face, replying to his tutor’s messages.

Not far away, Gu Nian was wearing a sports vest, struggling to walk while holding onto a handrail, his handsome face covered in sweat.

“Are you tired?” At twelve noon, Lin Sui finally finished communicating with his tutor. He closed his laptop and went over, distressed, to wipe away Gu Nian’s sweat. “What do you want to eat today?”

Gu Nian sat in his wheelchair, carefully wiping the sweat off his face with a wet wipe before touching Lin Sui’s hand and smiling. “I like anything you make.”

Lin Sui was pleased to hear this, and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly. He leaned down and kissed Gu Nian on the corner of his lips.

“I’ll be right back. Do you want to go for a walk with me after we eat lunch?”

Gu Nian nodded with a smile. Lin Sui turned to look at Doctor Chen next to him. “Doctor, please stay for lunch as well.”

Doctor Chen pushed up his glasses and nodded reservedly. This wasn’t his first time eating here. He had to admit that Lin Sui’s cooking was so good that no one could refuse.

Lin Sui pushed the door open and went out. Gu Nian watched him go. When he heard the sound of footsteps on the stairs, he slowly put away his smile and asked Doctor Chen, “Do I have any problems walking normally now?”

Doctor Chen flipped through the data. “Don’t walk too much in a day. You should be able to manage basic daily life. Also, don’t carry any weight at first. Your muscles haven’t fully recovered and are easily strained.”

In simple terms, as long as he didn’t overdo it, he would basically be no different from a normal person.

Gu Nian nodded to show he understood. The next moment, he actually stood up straight. He took a long stride, steadily walked to the French window, and his tall figure cast a shadow. He gazed into the distance, his vision having a long-lost breadth, and a feeling of joy filled his chest.

He could walk a month ago, but he still staggered. Now, he could move around freely. No one would have imagined that he had been paralyzed in a wheelchair for several years.

Gu Nian took a deep breath, feeling a little dazed himself.

That hellish life seemed to be far away from him, and what changed everything was Lin Sui, his lover.

Gu Nian wasn’t a person who believed in luck, but at this moment, he felt that he was really lucky.

Doctor Chen suddenly said, “When are you planning to tell him? Are you really going to wait until Lin Sui’s birthday?”

Gu Nian turned around, somewhat puzzled by his question. “Wasn’t it planned long ago?”

He would tell him the surprise on Lin Sui’s birthday, then give him a real hug, and then fulfill those past promises.

Whether it was going to the temple to fulfill his vows, riding horses on the prairie, or watching the sunrise again.

He would use these legs to walk the road he and Lin Sui had walked again.

Doctor Chen paused upon hearing this, and a ripple appeared on his expressionless face. “But what if Lin Sui isn’t happy? What if he thinks you don’t trust him enough? I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I always feel like Lin Sui has been a little uneasy lately, but he always hides it in front of you.”

“I also ran into him staring at your old photos, with a strange expression, muttering something.”

Lin Sui was hiding it well, but he was only able to catch a glimpse because he was an outsider looking in.

He had eaten so many meals from him, after all, and he couldn’t just watch Gu Nian go further and further astray.

Gu Nian was slightly stunned. He didn’t know any of this at all. The joy that had arisen in his heart because of his recovery faded a lot, and he frowned, thinking about it.

But before he could figure anything out, his phone suddenly rang. Gu Nian wanted to hang up, but when he saw the contact’s name, he answered it.

“Grandpa Duan.” Gu Nian called out politely, his tone much better than towards the Gu family’s members. “Is there anything you need from me suddenly?”

“Hahaha, Little Gu, isn’t it that we finally found the child who was lost from our family? I’m preparing to hold a banquet to announce it, so I’m especially inviting you.” The person called Grandpa Duan was a full-bodied old man, and you could hear his joy even through the phone. “Little Gu, don’t think too much about it. When your grandfather was alive, our two families were friends. Now that your grandfather is gone, I also treat you as half a grandson. I thought of calling you to join in the fun on such a happy day.”

The expression on Gu Nian’s face softened even more. Grandpa Duan and his grandfather were comrades-in-arms. The two of them were close friends from their youth. Later, they started their own businesses from scratch, and they were still able to go out fishing together when they were old. The two families had always been very close. Half of the mountain where Gu Nian stayed when he was a child belonged to the Duan family.

“Okay, I’ll go and support Grandpa Duan, and see who dares to make things difficult for Young Master Duan.” Gu Nian agreed readily, then paused, suddenly thinking of something. “I’ll introduce Lin Sui to you at that time. We haven’t had a chance to properly introduce him to you since we got married.”

This idea suddenly popped up, and Gu Nian had a feeling of finally seeing the light after a long darkness. He used to worry that Lin Sui would be retaliated against by Gu Zhicai, so he didn’t dare to let others discover his relationship with Lin Sui. After so long, he almost forgot that Gu Zhicai had become a stray dog. He could finally openly announce that Lin Sui was his wife.

Moreover, Grandpa Duan was a respected elder. Gu Nian suddenly felt a sense of nervousness like he was bringing his partner to meet the parents.

“Hahaha.” Grandpa Duan chuckled dryly. Gu Nian was thinking about the public announcement and didn’t notice the other party’s awkwardness. He continued, “Grandpa Duan, remember to send me an invitation.”

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Grandpa Duan was absent-minded, completely different from his initial enthusiasm. Gu Nian thought that the old man was too excited that his grandson had just been found and was tired at the moment, so he thoughtfully said goodbye and hung up the phone.

Doctor Chen raised his eyebrows. “Finally willing to go public?”

“Yes.” Gu Nian smiled, finding a designer to customize couple suits, while curling his lips, his face full of joy at being able to declare his ownership soon.

Doctor Chen’s mouth twitched. He simply couldn’t bear to look.

But he also breathed a sigh of relief. Since they were preparing to go public, then there probably wouldn’t be any problems with this couple. He could continue to freeload meals.

It was almost time, and Gu Nian sat back in his wheelchair and was pushed downstairs by Doctor Chen. After the three of them finished eating together, Doctor Chen had to go back to the clinic to deal with other matters. After saying goodbye, Lin Sui put on sunscreen for Gu Nian and took him out for a walk.

“It’s been a long time since we came out together, right?” A warm, not-too-hot breeze blew towards them, and Lin Sui squinted his eyes comfortably. Many trees were planted in the neighborhood, and it was just the season for flowering, and the air was filled with a sweet smell.

Gu Nian nodded, sighing, “We’ve been too busy lately.” He glanced at the joy on Lin Sui’s face, his heart both sour and soft. Lin Sui had rarely come out to play in order to accommodate him during this time, even though he had such a yearning for freedom.

He said softly, “Let’s come every day in the future. If we get tired of this place, we can go to the company. There’s a pretty famous ecological park near there, with some rare plants.”

“Okay, okay.” Lin Sui nodded while pulling Gu Nian to take a photo next to a blooming flower. The young man in the photo had a bright and brilliant smile, and a trace of surprise flashed in the eyes of the man next to him, the corners of his mouth unknowingly tilted upward.

Lin Sui skillfully posted it on his video account, and happily showed Gu Nian the rapidly rising likes and comments.

Gu Nian carefully looked at the top-rated comments praising them, and then looked at Lin Sui’s eyes, which were bent into slits. He thought he should also learn some knowledge in this area.

Lin Sui flipped through the comments for a while, then suddenly sighed, somewhat regretfully, “But I haven’t seen Sui Sui Nian Nian in a long time. He used to be the first to comment and like everything I posted. I even gave him several paintings.”

Hearing the familiar nickname, Gu Nian tensed up, and after a long while, he said stiffly, “Is, is that so, that’s a pity.”

Lin Sui was only distracted by the regret for a moment before being attracted by a butterfly. Gu Nian, however, took it to heart. While Lin Sui was having fun, he secretly logged into the account of the live streaming platform, hesitating whether to cancel it.

Intuition told him that keeping it would eventually lead to his identity being exposed, but it seemed a little pity to cancel it like this.

Gu Nian looked at the private messages with the only person he followed. There wasn’t much communication in them. Most of them were the usual thanks and some addresses for mailing paintings. Gu Nian couldn’t bear to have these things destroyed. In a sense, this was the beginning of his closeness to Lin Sui. This account always had a different meaning.

Those paintings were hidden in the safe of another house. Gu Nian was a little conflicted about whether to confess before he was discovered.

Gu Nian was so conflicted that he didn’t come to a conclusion even when he went to bed at night. He received Grandpa Duan’s invitation in his email first, so Gu Nian simply put the confession aside and turned to prepare for the public announcement.

He had already told Lin Sui about the banquet in the afternoon, but he didn’t tell Lin Sui that this was also the opportunity for them to go public. All the well-known people in the circle would definitely come at that time. He and Lin Sui would appear in couple outfits, and that would be enough to make these people understand without saying anything more.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to hold a press conference, but the company was really too busy right now, and he didn’t want to give Lin Sui a flawed press conference.

Gu Nian didn’t say any of these little thoughts. He only told Lin Sui that a friendly family had found their lost child and invited him to celebrate together.

Lin Sui didn’t think much about it at first and was happy for the family. He casually asked which family it was, but Gu Nian’s answer made him slightly silent.

    Duan?

This surname made it easy for him to think of someone.

Lin Sui’s mood was a little complicated. He didn’t have much memory of the protagonist’s background, because he only read half of the book before he transmigrated. But considering the powerful effect of the previous plots, he felt that this young master who was found was most likely Duan Miao.

Even after being treated so badly by Gu Nian, he could still come back in other ways. This plot was stubborn enough.

Seeing that Lin Sui’s reaction wasn’t quite right, Gu Nian asked softly, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.” Lin Sui composed himself. Anyway, if it was Duan Miao, then so be it. It had nothing to do with him and Gu Nian. Thinking of this, Lin Sui completely put the matter behind him and had other worries. “Is there going to be dancing at the banquet? I can’t dance at all.”

“It doesn’t matter.” Gu Nian had been waiting for this sentence for a long time. “You just need to be with me at that time.”

At that time, he would stick with Lin Sui the whole time, and see who was so blind that they couldn’t see that this was his wife!
