    Chapter 91: Sued

The scenery outside the window gradually transitioned into the familiar villa district. Lin Sui looked at the small road he and Gu Nian walked together every day. He knew every stone well, but a small patch in the corner had been replaced with brand new pebbles at some unknown time, making his heart suddenly feel empty.

Lin Sui shook his head, using his hat to block his line of sight, telling himself not to overthink it.

The taxi stopped in front of the villa. Lin Sui hurriedly paid and went to open the door. Just as he inserted the key into the lock, the sound of an engine shutting off came from behind. Lin Sui paused, his hand gripping the key unconsciously tightening, his whole body as stiff as a piece of wood.

“Lin Sui, you’re back.” Gu Nian saw Lin Sui and breathed a sigh of relief, hurriedly turning his wheelchair forward. He was still wearing a business suit, looking like he had just come from some meeting. His usually calm and composed face revealed a rare hint of panic.

Lin Sui took a deep breath, turned around, and replied with a low voice. After that, there was a long silence. His hands, hanging by his sides, clenched and then released, but he didn’t know what else to say.

His mouth was full of a bitter taste, and every word felt like a lump in his throat. Even though he knew that the so-called video was likely just an accident, Lin Sui couldn’t help but care.

“Did you see that video?” Gu Nian broke the silence first. Lin Sui’s body trembled. He couldn’t tell if it was a feeling of “I knew it” or bitterness. After a long while, he gave a very low “Mm.”

“Damn it.” Gu Nian cursed under his breath, gritting his teeth. He raised his head to take Lin Sui’s hand. Seeing that the other party didn’t reject him, he quickly said, “That was an accident. I didn’t even touch him. I don’t know what happened, but he happened to run into me, and coffee spilled on me. I was going to let him leave, but he insisted on wiping it off. I didn’t block him in time, and he got too close.”

Gu Nian finished speaking in one breath, then added, “But I didn’t let him touch me. I pushed him away immediately. I threw that suit away too. I’ve temporarily suspended Duan Miao and ordered him to reflect on his actions. I’ve already found out who took that misleading video and posted it online, and the public relations department has already clarified the rumors online, so don’t be angry, okay?”

Gu Nian looked at Lin Sui anxiously, his hand holding Lin Sui’s tightly, as if afraid Lin Sui would leave. Even though he was still wearing a very professional-looking suit, he looked like a big dog eager to show his loyalty, wishing he had a tail to wag.

Lin Sui stared blankly at Gu Nian. In those deep black eyes, all he could see was his own reflection. He could even see the genuine urgency in his eyes.

The anxiety in his heart seemed to evaporate all at once. A warm tide embraced him, making his whole body feel warm.

Lin Sui was slightly distracted, thinking about something. Gu Nian was becoming increasingly anxious by this silence, almost going crazy. He could only hold Lin Sui’s hand tightly to feel a little better, racking his brains to think of anything he might have missed.

“That’s right.” Gu Nian had a flash of inspiration and said seriously, “We’ll take photos right now, no, we’ll do a live stream! I’ll clarify it myself, and we’ll show our marriage certificate and diamond ring, the one we used at the wedding, to show those people who say our relationship has deteriorated.”

The more Gu Nian said, the more he thought it was a good idea. On the one hand, it would clarify the rumors this time. On the other hand, it would fully declare his ownership, saving him from having people call Lin Sui “wife” in his private messages every day. Don’t think he didn’t know. He knew these fans too well. Banning accounts didn’t work before. This was a perfect opportunity to show them what true love was.

Lin Sui snapped back to reality and heard Gu Nian rambling on. He had already gone from the ring to the handmade trinkets that Lin Sui had given him last time. He couldn’t help but laugh and interrupt, “People will definitely say you’re feeling guilty, and it’ll easily backfire.” Lin Sui pursed his lips, suppressing the upward curl of his mouth. “I know you’re innocent. Just issue a statement when the time comes.”

“Okay.” Gu Nian nodded in disappointment. He wished he could let the whole world know how good his relationship with Lin Sui was, and how much Lin Sui loved him.

“Let’s go inside first.” With the misunderstanding resolved, Lin Sui felt relaxed. He pushed Gu Nian into the house. Just as he was about to go upstairs to change clothes, he suddenly remembered something and stopped to ask, “Who posted the video online this time? It shouldn’t be someone from your company, right?”

Gu Nian hesitated and shook his head. “No, it was a paparazzi.”

“Paparazzi?” Lin Sui widened his eyes in surprise. “Is it someone from your father’s side?” Lin Sui felt that it was highly likely. Besides that, he couldn’t think of anyone who would go to such great lengths just to dig up a private exposé.

Gu Nian hesitated and vaguely glossed over the topic. “It’s nothing. I’ve taken care of it all. You don’t have to worry. Weren’t you going to change clothes? Go quickly.”

Lin Sui was stunned. He didn’t expect Gu Nian to react this way at all. The unease that had faded away suddenly surged up again. But he didn’t say anything, just turned and went back to his room to change clothes before coming back down.

Gu Nian immediately handed fruit to Lin Sui’s mouth, feeding him attentively. Lin Sui absentmindedly ate a few cherries. Just as he was wondering if he was being too sensitive because of the original plot, there was a knock on the door.

Lin Sui anticipated something and his face turned pale.

“Who is it?” Gu Nian frowned impatiently, putting down the plate and going to open the door.

“Wait!” Lin Sui was like a startled rabbit, frantically grabbing the wheelchair before Gu Nian opened the door. He met Gu Nian’s confused gaze and forced a smile. “Things have been a little strange lately. I’m a little afraid that Gu Zhicai is behind it.”

Gu Nian thought about Duan Miao, who had been appearing around him frequently these days, and nodded in agreement. He said, “Otherwise, I’ll just call security to drag the person outside away.”

Lin Sui was conflicted. There were two little people fighting in his mind. One was saying, “Drag him away, drag him away!” The other was whispering, “What if it’s not Duan Miao?” The two little people argued for a long time, and finally the first little person won.

Gu Nian called the property management, and within a few minutes, they could vaguely hear someone approaching. Lin Sui couldn’t bother hiding the expression on his face. He held his breath, listening to the movements outside, silently praying that he was wrong and that it wasn’t Duan Miao.

However, contrary to his wishes, the next second, a sharp ripping sound pierced the wall, piercing Lin Sui’s ears.

“Gu… Gu… Gu Nian. I’m here to apologize to you! Please let me in! I really didn’t do it on purpose this time. Please don’t fire me! President Gu!” Seeing that the security guards were unyielding, Duan Miao had to shout at the top of his lungs, hoping that this would make the person inside open the door.

Gu Nian’s face immediately darkened, and he gnashed his teeth as he looked at the door panel, wanting to give Duan Miao a slap in the face.

He really couldn’t understand what he had done to offend this person. It was one thing that he seemed to have some brain development problems always tripping and spilling coffee on him. It seemed like his brain also had some problems. He was a mess at work, and now instead of honestly reflecting at home, he dared to come to his door to cause trouble. It was really… Gu Nian couldn’t find a word to describe it, and almost laughed out of anger.

However, he knew that he couldn’t answer now. If he spoke at this time, it would really never end. Therefore, Gu Nian could only endure, no matter how much he wanted to lash out, and his cold face looked even colder.

The Duan Miao outside was still shouting non-stop, gradually turning into pleading. He babbled about his hardships, spilling all the details of his life in a few words, from being adopted to being abused. As he spoke, he even started to cry, scaring the security guards so much that they didn’t dare to touch him again.

Lin Sui, who was watching this scene through the security camera, was silent. He suddenly stepped forward and opened the door.

Gu Nian wanted to stop him, but he was a step too late. He unexpectedly saw Duan Miao’s face that he hated, and almost triggered his PTSD.

Fortunately, Duan Miao didn’t make any intimate gestures at this time. Seeing someone come out, he quickly tidied himself up, directly ignoring Lin Sui who had opened the door first, and looked eagerly at Gu Nian. “President Gu, you’re finally willing to see me!”

The joy in his voice couldn’t be hidden. It sounded like an abandoned woman who had been dumped by her lover. Gu Nian frowned and said mercilessly, “Your position wouldn’t have allowed you to see me in the first place. Besides, you’ve already been fired. If you have any complaints, you can file a protest with the legal department, or use the law to protect yourself, instead of crying and shouting here.”

Duan Miao’s face turned pale at these ruthless words. He stammered for a long time, “I, I don’t want to pester you. I just want to say that I’ll wash that suit that I dirtied today and return it to you.” As he said this, Duan Miao gave Lin Sui a meaningful look, and lowered his voice a little. “I’ll come to your door in person then. I hope you can forgive me.”

Gu Nian’s scalp tingled, and he felt that this person was simply poisonous. He didn’t he throw the suit away? Where did Duan Miao find it?

And didn’t the following sentence have very suggestive connotations? What relationship did he have with Duan Miao that he came to his house every day? It was as if they were very familiar, and he even looked at Lin Sui. Didn’t he have a wife? Why did he keep looking at someone else’s wife?

Thinking of this, Gu Nian looked at Duan Miao with even more vigilance.

At the same time, he also deeply understood that Duan Miao’s thought process was very different from normal people’s. He didn’t continue to talk nonsense. He directly called the company’s legal department and sued Duan Miao for harassment, doing everything cleanly and without delay.

Lin Sui was shocked by this series of operations. Duan Miao was dumbfounded, tears hanging on his eyes but forgetting to fall, looking at the impeccably dressed Gu Nian in disbelief.

What had he done? How had he been sued for no reason? This person was too petty. Duan Miao thought aggrievedly and angrily.

Seeing that the person had calmed down, Gu Nian quickly gestured for the security guards next to him to take the person away. With the lawsuit hanging over him, Duan Miao didn’t dare to cause any more trouble and obediently followed them away.

Looking at the disappearing figure, Gu Nian felt a sense of exhaustion. He secretly rejoiced that he understood the law. Indeed, the law was the best way to protect his innocence.

Lin Sui blinked, still not quite recovered from this sudden turn of events—Gu Nian had just sued the male lead?

    So strange.

But he was a little happy. Was he allowed to say that?
