AMTBYIGA Chapter 9
by VolareChapter 9: Kitten Stretches Its Claws
Lin Sui struggled tenaciously, using the meager ingredients to make two bowls of noodles, which he brought to the table. When he reached the master bedroom on the second floor, he took a deep breath, put on a bright smile, and began to knock on the door.
After three “knock, knock, knock” sounds, Gu Nian opened the door after a while, economical with words: “What is it?”
Lin Sui tried hard to control his smile and said, “I made noodles, have some.” After all, after this meal, he didn’t know when the next one would be.
Gu Nian narrowed his eyes. “Takeout?”
“No, I made it.”
Lin Sui thought to himself, where do they have money for takeout? They can’t even afford the delivery fee.
Gu Nian’s expression became even more inscrutable. “You can cook?”
Lin Sui patted his chest proudly, “Of course I can!”
Gu Nian didn’t say anything more, turning his wheelchair towards the elevator in the corridor. Lin Sui quickly jogged to keep up.
With a “ding,” the elevator opened, and Lin Sui followed him inside. He secretly touched the elevator, wondering if it consumed a lot of electricity. If it was too expensive, he might as well put a board on the stairs for Gu Nian.
Gu Nian took in all his little actions, his eyes filled with increasing doubt. He looked at the young man, who seemed lost in thought, with a hint of scrutiny.
According to his research, Lin Sui was a spoiled illegitimate son with zero life skills and couldn’t cook at all.
This was another difference from what he had imagined.
It seemed he needed to re-investigate.
Gu Nian was lost in thought when he suddenly and unexpectedly smelled the aroma of food. He subconsciously looked up and saw two steaming bowls of noodles on the table in front of him, garnished with a vibrant green bok choy, making them look very appetizing.
Lin Sui fluttered like a little butterfly to the other side of the table, pushing one of the bowls toward Gu Nian and looking at him expectantly.
Gu Nian paused for a moment, then slowly picked up his chopsticks and took a bite. His eyes widened slightly in surprise, and the gloom around him seemed to evaporate with the steam, making him appear more lively.
“Not bad,” Gu Nian commented reservedly.
Lin Sui instantly smiled, his eyes crinkling.
Gu Nian’s heart skipped a beat when he saw those bright, sparkling eyes that lit up from his casual praise. He lowered his eyes in an unnatural manner to avoid Lin Sui’s gaze.
Lin Sui looked at the gloomy, pitiful thing eating seriously with a benevolent expression, contentedly holding his own bowl and burying his head in it.
They finished both bowls of noodles, not even leaving the soup. Lin Sui cleared the table, wiped his hands dry, and sat down in front of Gu Nian with a serious expression. “I think we need to talk.”
Gu Nian’s eyes, which had softened slightly from the satisfying meal, immediately lost their warmth. His facial muscles tightened, thinking coldly that after acting for so long, Lin Sui was finally going to reveal his true colors.
Did he want money, or did he want him to help the Lin family? No matter which it was, he wouldn’t…
“Could you give me some living expenses?”
The young man’s voice was soft, but it abruptly interrupted Gu Nian’s thoughts.
He looked up, wondering if he had misheard.
Silence fell on the dining table.
Lin Sui scratched his nose a little embarrassedly, explaining in a small voice, “There’s no food left at home, and I don’t have any money. A thousand or two should be enough to buy groceries.”
As he spoke, his fair face turned red with shame.
Lin Sui had never asked anyone for money like this in his previous life. For a moment, he wanted to hide his head under the table out of embarrassment.
After a long pause without an answer, he sighed inwardly, thinking that Gu Nian was truly broke. He looked at the other person expectantly and added, “I’ll find a job, and I’ll pay you back when I get my salary.”
Gu Nian finally confirmed that he hadn’t misheard. He looked at Lin Sui, who was cautiously looking at him like a small animal, with a complicated expression, unsure how to answer for a moment.
According to his plan, he would maintain his penniless persona until he had enough confidence. Naturally, he couldn’t just pull out a card with a credit limit of tens of thousands and tell Lin Sui to leave him alone.
Gu Nian’s brain analyzed the situation calmly.
The best solution for now was to give Lin Sui the monthly living expenses of an average household, or even a little less than the normal amount, so that others wouldn’t suspect anything.
Then, a question arose.
How much were the monthly living expenses of an average household?
