AMTBYIGA Chapter 73
by VolareGu Nian was stunned for a moment.
He looked at the person in front of him, drunk and unable to sit still, with a mix of amusement and helplessness. He asked, “Why do you think like that?”
Lin Sui pursed his lips, his rosy cheeks tinged with sadness. “You’re not answering me, are you feeling guilty because I hit the nail on the head?”
“…”
“No.” Gu Nian didn’t know what to say for a moment. He suddenly realized that Lin Sui might have some very dangerous misconceptions in his subconscious.
Gu Nian touched Lin Sui’s warm cheek, his dark eyes fixed on the other, filled with nothing but love. He said very seriously, “I like you, so I want to hold you, kiss you, and also want to… cough.”
After an awkward pause, Gu Nian vaguely glossed over the last sentence and instead asked a question of his own.
“Why would you think that way?”
Was it because he hadn’t given Lin Sui enough security? Or had someone said something they shouldn’t have?
Lin Sui seemed very satisfied with Gu Nian’s answer. He thought seriously for a moment and slowly opened his mouth, “Because I’m good-looking.”
After saying that, he even twisted his body to look at the reflection in the nearby pool, nodding his small head affirmatively.
Yeah, really good-looking.
Gu Nian: …
Gu Nian couldn’t quite understand the logic. “You’re good-looking, but what does that have to do with me not liking you?”
“It’s not that you don’t like me.” Lin Sui corrected, “It’s that you only like my face.”
“…Okay, why do you think that?” Gu Nian felt that he couldn’t reason with a drunk person, so he went along with it.
Lin Sui visibly deflated, and said listlessly in a low voice, “Because I’m not good.”
He carefully counted on his fingers to give examples, “I’m not good at studying, but you graduated from a prestigious university. I have no money, no house, and I’m living in your house. I’m not good at sports either, I’ve been working out for a long time but I don’t have any muscles. And I, I initially had impure motives and wasn’t good to you at all.”
The more Lin Sui spoke, the sadder he became. He sniffled and concluded with a sob, “So you just like my face. If there’s someone better than me one day, you won’t choose me.”
Gu Nian was stunned.
His heart felt as if it had been torn open by these words, leaving a bloody wound that made it hard for him to breathe.
He didn’t dare to think about when Lin Sui had these thoughts, and how he had secretly hidden these sorrows while always appearing bright and cheerful in front of him.
Gu Nian suppressed the stabbing pain and forcefully pulled Lin Sui into his arms, repeating in his ear, “Lin Sui, I love you, so much, not for any reason, because you are you, Lin Sui. I like you, I love you. It’s not you who should be afraid of being abandoned.”
The last sentence was almost a sigh.
In fact, the reason Gu Nian didn’t want Lin Sui to accompany him in rehabilitation wasn’t what he and the doctor had said, but because he was afraid that Lin Sui would see him in such a pathetic state and regret being with him.
Even though he knew how passionate and pure Lin Sui’s feelings for him were, fear always followed him like a shadow.
Lin Sui was too good, so good that it seemed natural for him to have all the good things in the world.
But someone struggling to stand up was not good at all.
And didn’t deserve his little sun at all.
But Gu Nian couldn’t say these words no matter what. He could only keep saying his love, hoping to comfort his lover who was in such distress.
Lin Sui completely lost control of his emotions due to his drunkenness. He couldn’t stop crying, and his tears smeared all over Gu Nian. His chaotic brain couldn’t quite distinguish the jumbled emotions—one moment he was happy about Gu Nian’s confession, and the next he was reminded of the plot in the original novel, where Gu Nian fell in love with his destined other half at first sight and then kicked him out of the house, tearfully shedding golden beans.
When Lin Sui first transmigrated, he could still say with ease that he would take the divorce settlement and roam the world. He still wanted to roam the world now, but he wanted to take someone with him and share half of his dream with him.
But that person might not want it.
Lin Sui secretly glanced at Gu Nian. The tenderness and heartache on the other’s face didn’t seem fake, but the thought that he would treat another person with such an expression in the future made his heart ache.
He even thought resentfully that it would be better if Gu Nian wasn’t so good, so that no one would be fighting over him.
Gu Nian’s heart was shattered like broken glass. He gently patted Lin Sui’s back like a child and kept kissing Lin Sui’s forehead.
Lin Sui cried for a while before his consciousness became blurred. Coupled with the familiar aura surrounding him, he fell asleep in a daze after a while, with tear stains on his face and his nose and eyes red, looking so pitiful.
Gu Nian waited for a while, and after confirming that Lin Sui was asleep, he carefully brushed away the hair blocking Lin Sui’s eyes. He lightly touched the swollen eyelids with his fingers, and the heartache in his eyes almost overflowed.
He laboriously carried Lin Sui to the edge of the hot spring pool, barely managing to put a bathrobe on him before ringing the bell to call for a waiter to help.
Gu Nian didn’t want anyone to touch Lin Sui in the slightest, but he couldn’t even walk out by himself now, let alone take care of Lin Sui.
He could only passively be pushed onto the wheelchair and then silently be pushed back to the room.
The waiter put Lin Sui on the bed and immediately retreated, breathing a sigh of relief as he closed the door. Although the guest in the wheelchair hadn’t said a word the whole time, the atmosphere around him put him under a lot of pressure.
Gu Nian found pajamas for Lin Sui and changed him, then carefully tucked him in. Then he silently sat by the bed, staring at Lin Sui in the dim light of the night lamp.
This unexpected emotional outburst had exhausted a lot of Lin Sui’s energy, but even so, it didn’t let him go in his dreams. The young man on the bed frowned tightly, his body curled into a small ball, making it clear to anyone that he wasn’t having a good dream.
The moon outside the window was covered by thick clouds, struggling to reveal a little bit of its afterglow, pale and weak.
Gu Nian had been sitting like this for nearly an hour, his posture unmoving, causing his body to stiffen like a piece of wood. Suddenly moving, it seemed as if he could hear the creaking of decay.
He slowly crawled onto the bed and burrowed into the covers. Not long after he got in, Lin Sui, like a cat greedy for warmth, rolled over, precisely shrinking into Gu Nian’s arms and lying down again.
With just this little change, Lin Sui’s body stretched out a little, and the expression on his face gradually became peaceful, but his fingers were tightly clutching the clothes on Gu Nian’s chest.
Gu Nian nestled him into his arms and closed his eyes, forcing himself to fall asleep.
It was a sleepless night.
The next morning, as soon as Lin Sui woke up, he felt that his eyes were so swollen that he couldn’t open them. Question marks popped up on his forehead.
The only memories in his head were of Gu Nian teasing him with mustard last night, and he mistakenly drank a glass of wine to relieve the spiciness, and then he completely lost his memory. Needless to say, he must have blacked out.
Lin Sui scratched his hair, and a bad feeling suddenly rose in his heart.
Putting aside everything else, his eyes were definitely cried to this state. What exactly did he do last night?
Lin Sui turned his head to look at the side. Gu Nian was rarely sleeping in, with dark circles under his eyes, looking like he hadn’t rested well.
…He wouldn’t have thrown up all over the room last night, would he? Otherwise, why would Gu Nian look like he had been working ten consecutive all-nighters?
A sense of guilt welled up in Lin Sui’s heart. He tiptoed out of bed, thinking about making some breakfast for Gu Nian first.
However, what he didn’t expect was that his slight movement woke up the sleeping person. In a daze, Gu Nian accurately grabbed Lin Sui’s wrist. His dark eyes had some red bloodshot in them, and his voice was as hoarse as rough gravel, “Where are you going?”
Lin Sui was stunned. He didn’t have time to answer and frowned, asking, “Why are you so tired? Do you want to sleep a little longer?”
Gu Nian slowly shook his head, then nodded, “You stay with me.”
Saying that, he forcefully pulled Lin Sui down and stuffed him into his arms again.
This time, he hugged him especially tightly. Lin Sui felt like he was entangled by an octopus.
Lin Sui didn’t struggle either and said in a tone like coaxing a child, “I’m just going to get some breakfast. After we eat, we’ll continue sleeping, okay?”
Gu Nian closed his eyes, stubbornly saying nothing, but his tightening arms expressed his wishes very well.
Lin Sui was really helpless. Gu Nian wasn’t usually this clingy. After thinking for a long time, the only possibility was that something happened last night. He hesitated and opened his mouth, “Did I do something very excessive last night?”
Gu Nian finally opened his mouth, “No.”
Lin Sui was puzzled, “Then why are you so tired? If I did anything bad, you must tell me.”
Gu Nian was silent for a while, then suddenly turned Lin Sui over so that they were face to face.
“Why are you so good to me?”
Lin Sui hadn’t recovered from being flipped over when he heard Gu Nian ask this question.
He blinked his eyes and felt that the question was strange. “Of course it’s because I like you.” Lin Sui said inexplicably, “Is there even a need to say that?”
Gu Nian lowered his eyes, unable to see his expression. He said something softly in his mouth. Lin Sui leaned closer but couldn’t hear him clearly, so he directly asked, “What did you say?”
“Nothing.” Gu Nian hugged Lin Sui into his arms again, and said as if casually sighing, “You’re so good to me, what would I do without you?”
Lin Sui loved hearing these words the most, and couldn’t help but curl up the corners of his mouth. He pretended to be nonchalant and said, “Then I’ll stay with you for the rest of my life.”
He waited for a while, but Gu Nian didn’t respond. When he looked up, he realized that Gu Nian had fallen asleep again.
It seemed that he was really exhausted. Lin Sui lovingly touched Gu Nian’s face and nestled safely in his arms, acting as a well-behaved Pillow.
Time passed from morning to noon. Lin Sui lay down and began to feel sleepy, taking a nap. When he woke up again, he found that Gu Nian was already dressed and standing by the window, making a phone call.
Gu Nian seemed to sense something and turned his head to glance over. His speech speed clearly accelerated, and he hung up the phone in less than a minute.
“Who was it?” Lin Sui rubbed his eyes and got out of bed to ask.
“It was Zhou Shan. He said he’s coming to find us for lunch later.” Gu Nian said.
Lin Sui was surprised. “Isn’t he with that pursuer? Did something happen?”
“It shouldn’t be. He sounded alright.” Gu Nian didn’t want Lin Sui to pay too much attention to other people’s relationships and changed the subject, “You drank too much last night, so let’s eat something light today.”
Lin Sui nodded and quickly got himself ready, pushing Gu Nian to the restaurant. The two had just ordered their food and sat down when an uninvited guest sat down in front of them.
