    Chapter 34: Kiss

After dinner, Lin Sui went to massage Gu Nian as usual.

After adapting for these past few days, Gu Nian wasn’t as resistant anymore, holding a collection of poems to pass the time, although most of the time his gaze would drift away from the words and focus on the serious expression on the young man’s face.

This day was also as usual. Lin Sui was massaging with vigor when the phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated.

Gu Nian slightly raised his eyes, “Is there something urgent?”

“It shouldn’t be, my makeup exam isn’t until the day after tomorrow.” Lin Sui shook his head, then, thinking of something, glared fiercely at Gu Nian. “Don’t even think about using this as an excuse to shorten the massage time!”

Gu Nian was speechless for a moment. He wasn’t resisting it now, he wished Lin Sui would stick to him all the time, and it didn’t matter if he saw his legs or anything. So, he reached out and flicked Lin Sui’s forehead, helplessly amused. “What nonsense are you thinking? Treating a good heart like dirt.”

Lin Sui covered his forehead and dodged backward, pouting unconvincingly, just about to say something when the vibration in his pocket suddenly became more intense, a lively ringtone sounding.

Gu Nian raised an eyebrow, his dark eyes revealing a hint of a smile, his tone playful. “No urgent business?”

Lin Sui blushed a little, ignoring Gu Nian’s deliberate teasing, and hurriedly answered the phone.

    “Lin Sui!”

As soon as he answered, an excited, cracking female voice came from the other end. Lin Sui shuddered and reflexively sat up straight, trembling as he responded, “Coun, Counselor, is there something?”

At the same time, his brain began to race, trying to figure out when he had unknowingly caused trouble.

Or had something the original Lin Sui did been discovered? What kind of apology would he have to make to be forgiven?

Lin Sui racked his brains, finally resorting to the all-purpose solution: “I’m sorry, Counselor, I was wrong, I’ll change in the future!”

Regardless of the reason, a sincere attitude was definitely the right thing!

This was a major truth of life that Lin Sui had realized on his own in just a few short days.

The counselor was stunned by this heartfelt apology, amused. “What are you apologizing for? Or did you cause some trouble I don’t know about?”

Lin Sui honestly replied, holding the phone, “I don’t know either.”

    “…”

The counselor was speechless, but seeing the contract in her hand, she immediately grinned from ear to ear, not caring about this little interlude. “I’m calling to tell you good news! Someone wants to buy your painting!”

    “!”

Lin Sui’s mouth opened unconsciously, a bit of his pink tongue showing. He stared blankly at the counselor’s contact information on his phone, feeling like he was hearing things. He actually heard that his painting was sold!

Could there really be someone so blind in this world?

Lin Sui hadn’t put the phone on speaker, but the counselor’s voice was too loud, and Gu Nian had heard some of it, quickly understanding the situation.

Compared to Lin Sui’s disbelief, he was much calmer, or rather, he thought it was perfectly normal. In his eyes, everything about Lin Sui was the best. If he had known about such a painting earlier, he would have offered to buy it long ago.

Tch, what a bargain for that person.

It took a long while for Lin Sui to find his voice, his hand holding the phone shaking. After hesitating for a long time, he cautiously advised, “Um, Counselor, did you run into a scammer? Scams are very cunning these days.”

“…” The counselor’s tone was amicable. “Lin Sui, are you uncomfortable if I don’t scold you, is that it?”

Lin Sui shrank his neck, finally accepting reality in a daze, even more puzzled. “Why would someone suddenly want to buy my painting?”

“I’m not too sure either. It seems that person accidentally saw your work when they were visiting our painting studio, and immediately said they wanted to buy it. But they insisted on meeting you. The time is set for tomorrow at three in the afternoon, on the second floor of our school’s cafeteria. You don’t have to worry about safety issues.”

The counselor paused, earnestly saying, “I think this is a great opportunity. You know, our school allows you to earn credits through social practice. With your grades, it’s impossible to get enough credits. Having this opportunity might allow you to graduate smoothly.”

Lin Sui’s ears automatically filtered out the other sounds, leaving only the words “credits” and “graduate.” He immediately perked up and instantly threw the previous tangle to the back of his mind.

“Okay, no problem, three o’clock tomorrow, right? I’ll be there on time.” Lin Sui clenched his fist, full of fighting spirit.

“Yes, that’s right. Remember to dress nicely tomorrow.” The counselor nodded in satisfaction, and then told him not to forget the make-up exam the day after tomorrow, and hung up the phone.

Lin Sui happily put away his phone and continued to massage Gu Nian, unable to hide the joy on his face, especially since he wasn’t hiding it at all.

Gu Nian inexplicably felt a little sour in his mouth, unable to resist opening his mouth. “Are you looking forward to meeting that person?”

Lin Sui nodded vigorously, counting on his fingers. “If this is successful, it might be able to offset a lot of credits. Then I won’t have to worry about graduating, so I can have more time to spend with you!”

Gu Nian was stunned to hear this, never expecting that the reason Lin Sui was so happy would actually be himself.

Lin Sui looked at him with a grin, his clear amber pupils filled with the man’s reflection.

Gu Nian looked at him, his expression changing again and again, his chest rising and falling, struggling to suppress the fire that was about to erupt. Finally, he sighed softly, suddenly reaching out and covering Lin Sui’s eyes, feeling the sensation of eyelashes brushing against his skin, and then leaning over—

He cherished and reverently kissed the back of his hand, his tender expression as if he were really kissing his treasure.

Lin Sui sat obediently, still not knowing what had happened, tilting his head in confusion. “What’s wrong?”

Gu Nian coughed softly, casually retracting his hand and sitting up straight, his expression calm. “Nothing.” But the tips of his ears slowly turned red.

Lin Sui immediately heard the evasion in his voice, pouted unhappily, and didn’t continue to press him. He just lowered his head and continued to massage. As soon as forty minutes were up, he got out of bed and walked towards the door without looking back.

He left without any hesitation, silently vowing in his heart not to pay attention to Gu Nian today! He was going to break up with Gu Nian for a day, and then make up tomorrow!

Gu Nian grabbed his wrist, lowered his voice, and coaxed softly, “Don’t be angry, come back early tomorrow, okay?”

    “…”

Lin Sui, with his red ears, coldly “Mmm”ed, leaving the room without even turning his head, but his footsteps looked a bit flustered no matter how you looked at it.

Gu Nian chuckled softly, looking at the palm of his hand that had touched Lin Sui’s eyes, slightly lost in thought.

Of course, the reason he did that wasn’t because he didn’t want to be close to Lin Sui. On the contrary, he was almost driven mad with desire.

But the first real kiss couldn’t happen so hastily here. It wasn’t romantic at all.

All of his and Lin Sui’s firsts had to be deeply memorable, unforgettable even when they were old and toothless.

Lin Sui fell onto the bed with burning cheeks, burying his face in the soft pillow, his dense eyelashes fluttering like butterflies. After a long time, he finally raised his head, staring blankly at his wrist.

As if the tingling sensation of being held was still lingering on it.

Gu Nian’s hand was big, powerful, and cool, but it made his heart so hot.

Lin Sui caressed the skin on his wrist, thinking that he might really have fallen in love, otherwise why would he feel like he could still smell the good smell on Gu Nian, and even feel like he was soaked in that scent, never able to shake it off or forget it?

Thinking like this, Lin Sui looked forward even more to the beach trip next week. He heard that they could also sleep in tents—then he and Gu Nian should be sleeping together, right?

The next day, Lin Sui didn’t leave as early as he had the past few days. When Gu Nian got up and went downstairs, he saw that he was tinkering with something in the kitchen. A faint sweet smell wafted over, making one’s mouth water.

“You’re awake!” Lin Sui popped out his head, revealing his white teeth at Gu Nian at the elevator door. “Wait a moment, breakfast will be ready soon.”

Gu Nian curled his fingers, resisting the urge to reach out and ruffle that head, gently “Mmm”ed.

Fifteen minutes later, Lin Sui walked over with a huge plate, which was mysteriously covered with a lid.

Gu Nian raised his eyebrows and asked, “What is this?”

Lin Sui giggled twice, mysteriously opening the lid and proudly introducing, “This is Hong Kong-style dim sum. It took me a long time to make it!”

Gu Nian couldn’t help but be stunned, looking at the dazzling array of pastries, buns, and black tea on the plate, his voice slightly hoarse. “You got up so early to make these?”

“I didn’t get up very early. I even lazed in bed for a little longer than when I was reviewing the past few days.” Lin Sui didn’t care at all, only eagerly urging, “Try it quickly, is it delicious?”

Gu Nian picked up his chopsticks and put a shrimp dumpling in his mouth. The fresh and refreshing taste exploded on his tongue, not inferior to what was made in a restaurant. Gu Nian swallowed it whole without much chewing, and continued to pick up another while earnestly saying, “Very delicious, thank you for your hard work.”

Lin Sui shook his head vigorously, sitting across from him, propping up his chin and contentedly watching him eat. “It’s not hard at all, and this is compensation. I’m sorry, I’ve been too busy these past few days and haven’t been able to take care of you. I definitely won’t leave you at home in the future.”

Gu Nian pursed his lips, giving a very heavy “Mmm”, and the chopsticks in his hand picked up a new shrimp dumpling but didn’t bring it to his mouth, instead feeding it directly to Lin Sui’s eyes, his eyes slightly shining. “Eat.”

Lin Sui’s face turned red, his eyes shifting away in embarrassment, but then he thought that there was no one else here and that he and Gu Nian were legitimate husband and husband with a marriage certificate, so what was feeding a meal? So, he plucked up his courage and bit the chopsticks with an “Ah-woo”.

Gu Nian was slightly stunned, a surge of heat rushing out from his heart—these were the chopsticks he had just used.

So, wasn’t this… an indirect kiss?

Lin Sui was completely unaware of this, still foolishly happy that he was being fed by Gu Nian, cheerfully chewing on the shrimp dumpling, shaking his head and wagging his tail with joy.

Gu Nian slowly retracted the chopsticks, looking at the shiny water stain on them, silently added another bun, and casually imitated Lin Sui, stuffing the whole thing into his mouth.

However, after this small accident that only one person noticed, Gu Nian didn’t feed Lin Sui anything else. The high mountain flower who was in love for the first time was more innocent than anyone imagined, just sharing the same pair of chopsticks made him too shy to continue.

Lin Sui was quite looking forward to another time, but waited until he finished eating and clearing the dishes without Gu Nian making any move, so he had to disappointedly give up this idea.

But it didn’t matter, next time it would be his turn to feed Gu Nian, and then he could feed him as many times as he wanted!

Lin Sui gave a thumbs up to his own intelligence.

Lin Sui collapsed onto the bed with burning cheeks, burying his face in the soft pillow, his dense eyelashes fluttering like butterflies. After a long time, he finally raised his head, staring blankly at his wrist.

As if the tingling sensation of being held was still lingering on it.
