    Chapter 32: Cake

Gu Nian resisted the urge to hug the young man, restrained himself to a few head pats and released his hand, avoiding eye contact, his voice slightly hoarse, “How’s the revision going?”

Lin Sui stood up, flashing a row of white teeth, pretending to be relaxed, “No problem, I’ve memorized everything!”

“Oh, did you have lunch? Are you hungry? I’ll make something for you.” Lin Sui felt guilty after saying that. With his back to Gu Nian, his heart was pounding fiercely, like an elementary school student who hadn’t finished his homework but lied to his family about it, his hands clasped together nervously.

“Ate… didn’t eat.” Gu Nian looked at the backpack on Lin Sui’s back, suppressing his subconscious answer with a straight face.

If he said he had eaten, Lin Sui would go back to his room to study, right?

They hadn’t spent time together like this in a long, long time.

Gu Nian quietly looked at his own heart, calmly watching the composure he’d maintained all along be torn to shreds by Lin Sui’s simple words, “I missed you.” Those feelings hidden in the shadows were now exposed to the sunlight, with no escape.

Gu Nian had never been so clear about what he wanted.

Right now, he just wanted to look at Lin Sui, no matter what he was doing.

He wanted to be with Lin Sui.

Even if it was just for a little while.

Gu Nian gently turned his wheelchair to the kitchen door, almost greedily watching the busy young man inside. In his dark eyes surged a startling desire, like an airtight net that would capture his desired prey in the next second, never to let go.

Lin Sui was unaware of the approaching danger. He was looking at the empty refrigerator with a troubled expression, and after rummaging for a while, he found a bag of flour and a bottle of cream that he didn’t know when he’d bought. Turning around and seeing Gu Nian, he was like seeing a savior, holding up the cream for him to see, “Do you want to eat cake? There’s not much in the house, should I go buy some groceries now?”

Gu Nian quietly watched the young man with the lively expression, and after a long time, slowly opened his mouth, “No need, I want to eat cake.”

“Oh, then it might take a while.” Lin Sui found a box of strawberries, washing them while casually chatting with Gu Nian, “Do you like strawberries, or mangoes? I think there’s one in the house.”

Pausing, Lin Sui’s eyes suddenly scattered slightly, casually mentioning as if unintentionally, “If you don’t eat them, can I eat them? I think they’re going bad.”

A smile appeared on the corner of Gu Nian’s mouth, faintly “Mhm,” he said. “You eat them.”

Taking advantage of Gu Nian not seeing, Lin Sui didn’t hide his happiness at all, even the upturned hair on his head was more energetic, humming an unknown little tune, intermittently drifting out of the kitchen, making those who heard it smile unconsciously.

Gu Nian watched motionless for a long time, occasionally responding to Lin Sui’s wild imagination, sounding a bit cold, even impatient.

But if anyone could see his expression at this time, they would know that the coldness in his words was just to conceal his heart, which was too hot, and might even hurt others if he wasn’t careful.

When a cold person falls in love, it is also quiet and silent. Only he himself knows the madness and pain in that love.

But while his obsessive thoughts were rising, Gu Nian was also extremely sure that he couldn’t turn those thoughts in his mind into reality, and he wouldn’t allow himself to do that.

He wanted Lin Sui to be happy forever, always a beautiful and free bird.

And he would become the strength that would allow the bird to move forward with confidence.

Carefully suppressing those dark and crazy thoughts into his heart, Gu Nian became the aloof and indifferent self again. He waited at the dining table as he had countless times in the past.

Only this time, his eyes never left Lin Sui.

Lin Sui squatted in front of the oven, watching the batter inside without blinking, until the wet batter suddenly “popped” and became fluffy, his little face instantly showing a look of amazement.

Opening the oven and taking out the perfect cake base, Lin Sui smelled the faint sweetness in the air after baking, and swallowed, feeling no backbone at all, secretly rejoicing that he had deliberately made the cake bigger.

Gu Nian didn’t seem like someone who liked sweets very much. If he couldn’t finish it, he would help him a little.

Lin Sui secretly glanced at Gu Nian outside, and added another layer of cream with his backhand.

Of course, cake is more delicious with more cream, he didn’t add it because he wanted to eat it.

Under various private additions, the original four-inch cake was forcibly smeared with a finger-thick layer of cream.

Gu Nian couldn’t even touch the cake base with his fork, and after a long pause, under Lin Sui’s expectant gaze, he said as he wished, “I can’t finish it, let’s eat it together.”

Lin Sui’s eyes lit up, the corners of his mouth uncontrollably rising. He turned around to get a fork, but was suddenly grabbed by the wrist.

Looking back, Gu Nian was holding his wrist with one hand, and the fork in his other hand, which hadn’t been able to touch the cake base and only had a thick layer of cream, was staring straight at him. “No need to bother, just use this.”

“Ah?” Lin Sui was stunned, his head not turning, foolishly asking, “Then how will you eat?”

Hearing this, Gu Nian curled his lips, his cold and handsome face inexplicably becoming charming. His focused eyes were filled with Lin Sui’s figure, his voice like a bewitchment, “It doesn’t matter, we can use one, it just saves a set of tableware.”

Lin Sui looked at him, the tips of his ears gradually heating up, and he didn’t dare to look Gu Nian in the eyes for no reason. Like an instinctive retreat when facing danger, he took a step back, rolling his eyes, and refused with insufficient confidence, “No, no need, that, I, I haven’t been feeling well lately, my mouth might be a little smelly.”

Gu Nian’s gaze naturally fell on Lin Sui’s lips, which were neither too thick nor too thin, his eyes slightly sinking. He really wanted to say “Then I’ll taste it,” but in the end, he only thought about it in his mind.

Lin Sui seemed to be easily shy when it came to intimate contact. He was blushing like this just from using one fork, if he said that, he would run away on the spot, right?

    Gu Nian thought.

It seemed that he needed to increase the amount of interaction in the future. Fortunately, they had a very, very long time to be together, enough for Lin Sui to get used to it.

Thinking of this, the little bit of loss that Gu Nian felt because of Lin Sui’s refusal also dissipated completely. He nodded and didn’t continue to insist.

Lin Sui breathed a sigh of relief, and as if he had hawks chasing him, he quickly retrieved a set of tableware. As soon as his heels were stable, he quickly and accurately inserted a piece of cake and stuffed it into his mouth, not giving Gu Nian any time to do anything.

    Gu Nian: …

The hand that was trying to feed him with a new fork slowly lowered.

Never mind, the little guy was just shy.

Lin Sui buried his head and ate like crazy, the sweet taste filling his entire mouth, even more delicious than he imagined. But he was a little absent-minded, mechanically chewing a few times before raising his head to peek at Gu Nian, and then dropping his eyes with a swoosh before the other party also looked over, pretending to be eating seriously.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Under Lin Sui’s calm exterior, it was as if there were a hundred screaming chickens.

In fact, if Gu Nian wasn’t here, he really wanted to slap himself, to make the little deer that suddenly jumped up in his heart quiet, what was it jumping around for all day long.

    Especially just now.

When Gu Nian was feeding him, he actually felt ambiguity!

Lin Sui had never been in love, so he wasn’t sure if that atmosphere should be called by that name, but it was obvious that, regardless of whether it was or not, it was very abnormal for himself to be accelerating his heartbeat because of it.

No, no, Lin Sui’s little man shook his head, this might also be because Gu Nian’s sudden concern for him made him too moved, so he couldn’t just attribute it to him liking Gu Nian.

Out of a rigorous and inquisitive concept, Lin Sui swallowed the cream with force, mustered up his courage and looked up at Gu Nian with a serious expression, his amber pupils full of tension.

One second passed, Gu Nian didn’t notice.

Five seconds passed, his heart had no reaction.

Fifteen seconds passed, Gu Nian noticed and looked up.

    Sixteen seconds, Gu Nian smiled.

Eighteen seconds, Gu Nian pushed his cake to him.

Twenty seconds, Lin Sui stiffly lowered his head.

The sound of his heartbeat was loud enough to make his eardrums throb.

Lin Sui’s mind was blank, only a pair of dark eyes filled with a smile were particularly clear, and the two big words “It’s over.”

    He was really doomed!

Lin Sui, you actually fell in love!

Lin Sui, how can you be like this, how can you covet someone! You’re lusting after his body, you’re cheap!

Lin Sui fiercely scolded the little deer in his heart that was running around again, lowering his head even lower with lingering fear, thinking that he had dodged so quickly just now, Gu Nian shouldn’t have seen him blush, right?

Please, please, definitely don’t see it, it’s too embarrassing!

How could someone just have a blank mind just because of a piece of cake!

The more Lin Sui thought about it, the more embarrassed he became, his toes curled on the ground and couldn’t stop at all, only knowing to stuff cake one bite after another, trying to use the sugar to forget this part.

Gu Nian supported his chin, watching the young man touch his face for a while and then have a tangled expression, a soft laugh overflowing from his lips, the love in his heart echoing in the gradually becoming more human-flavored house through the joyful laughter.

Gu Nian returned to the bedroom by elevator in a very good mood. Just then, Jiang Sheng sent a video call application, and as soon as he answered, he was horrified to see a smiling face full of spring breeze, and instantly stood up on the spot.

“Holy shit.” Jiang Sheng had a ghostly expression, touching his chin and starting to think wildly, “Tell me the truth, did you secretly assassinate Gu Zhi Cai? Otherwise, how could you smile so… lasciviously.”

Jiang Sheng thought for a long time and found that he could only use this word to describe it.

This was still beautified by him, if he really said it, the current Gu Nian was like a peacock in the zoo that was awakening in the spring, or the kind that had successfully obtained mating rights, even his hair exuded a pleasant taste.

In addition to revenge, Jiang Sheng couldn’t think of anything that could make Gu Nian so happy that even his facial paralysis was cured.

The smile on the corner of Gu Nian’s mouth disappeared in a second, coldly looking at Jiang Sheng in the screen, his voice carrying ice scum when he spoke, “Want to have your salary deducted again?”

    Jiang Sheng: …

Okay, still that familiar taste, this damned capitalist!
