Chapter 25: The World’s Biggest Misunderstanding

Lin Sui was a man of action. As soon as the black Benz arrived, he went straight to a large nearby supermarket. Since he didn’t have to pay, Lin Sui browsed through the ridiculously expensive yarn, carefully selecting a few skeins of pretty, soft yarn.

When he saw the total amount, he hesitated, worried that Gu Nian would balk at the price. But as it turned out, Lin Sui was overthinking it. As soon as he sent the receipt, the money was transferred to his account.

    He even rounded it up.

He could practically feel the extravagance through the screen.

Lin Sui clicked his tongue, carefully holding the bag, afraid of bumping or scratching it. Just this little bit of yarn was enough for his living expenses for a month.

    “I’m back.”

Lin Sui came in, carrying his things, and was surprised to find Gu Nian sitting on the sofa in the living room.

“Why are you sitting here? Did you have lunch?” Lin Sui huffed and puffed as he carried the paper bag and changed his shoes. His little head was hidden behind the bag, like a little turtle slowly carrying his burdens up the stairs.

“Yeah.” Gu Nian replied softly, staring at the computer screen, and asked casually, “What are you carrying? If it’s too heavy, take the elevator. Come over here and rest for a bit.”

Lin Sui was flattered by this concern. He honestly replied, “Just some books and things I left in the dorm.”

Gu Nian glanced up at him and patted the space next to him.

Lin Sui grinned, showing his little white teeth. The heavy weight on his back seemed to disappear instantly. He hopped over to Gu Nian, carefully keeping a little distance.

“I boiled water.” Gu Nian typed the last word and turned to look at the silly-grinning young man next to him. “If you’re thirsty, go pour yourself some.”

Lin Sui’s eyes widened in surprise, and he smiled, revealing his small tiger teeth. His long eyelashes fluttered happily, and he bounded off towards the kitchen.

His big son has learned to be filial to his old father! He’s one step further away from having his legs broken again. A cause for celebration!

Lin Sui happily poured himself a glass of water, the temperature just right for drinking. He finished it in one gulp, smacking his lips with lingering pleasure, feeling that the water had a special sweetness.

Gu Nian subtly looked up to make sure Lin Sui wasn’t looking, then immediately turned to look at the paper bag carefully placed on the sofa. He narrowed his long eyes and quickly opened it a crack with his fingertip.

The soft camel-colored yarn brushed against his fingertip. He could press a small dent into it with a little force. Gu Nian unconsciously kneaded it, slightly lost in thought.

This yarn didn’t look cheap. With Lin Sui’s character of being frugal with taxi fare, he definitely wouldn’t have bought it just for fun.

Could he actually knit? And who would he give it to after he finished?

Gu Nian turned back to the kitchen. The young man was facing away from him, seemingly murmuring something. The soft hair on the top of his head was sticking up, and even his back radiated joy. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, and he already had an answer in his heart.

Although it sounded narcissistic, based on his observations over the past few days, Gu Nian felt that Lin Sui probably had feelings for him.

Next month was his birthday, and Gu Nian felt that there was no need to wonder who these yarns were bought for.

So he wanted to give him a gift, but he didn’t have the money to buy it, so he chose to make it himself?

Such a childish act, Gu Nian thought casually. But if Lin Sui made it himself, he wouldn’t mind accepting it.

Lin Sui came back, satisfied after drinking the water, and asked with concern when he saw Gu Nian’s red ears, “Are you hot? Should I turn down the air conditioner?”

Gu Nian coughed and looked away awkwardly. “It’s okay. I’m going back to my room.” He went back to his wheelchair on his own. Before leaving, he suddenly said, “You can use the elevator whenever you want from now on. Don’t waste unnecessary energy.”

Lin Sui subconsciously said “Oh.” It wasn’t until Gu Nian entered the elevator that he suddenly reacted, his eyes lighting up – Gu Nian was concerned about him!

Although he was still awkward, Gu Nian had shown concern for him twice in ten minutes! Lin Sui felt like he was dreaming, holding his face and giggling non-stop.

After a while, Lin Sui rubbed his face, happily taking his backpack and paper bag upstairs to his room.

The first thing he did was finish his homework. Lin Sui set up his easel, and properly took out his almost unused palette. He placed a large box of colorful paints in front of him, his bright eyes focused on the white canvas, and his flexible brush hovered slightly in the air, seemingly conceiving the image.

    Then, ten minutes passed.

The clean white canvas remained spotless, and Lin Sui’s arms ached slightly.

Lin Sui dejectedly lowered his arms and stared blankly at the canvas.

The theme of this assignment was freedom. The topic wasn’t tricky, but Lin Sui had never experienced true freedom in either of his lives, and he didn’t know how to start.

Lin Sui sadly put his hands in his sleeves, worrying that he would be expelled for not being able to hand in his homework.

Suddenly, Lin Sui patted his face, telling himself not to give up so quickly. So he started staring at the canvas again. As he stared, his eyes drifted out the window – the leaves hadn’t turned yellow yet, that cloud looks funny, there’s a dog falling into the pool outside…

Just as his thoughts were about to drift to what to eat tonight, Lin Sui suddenly snapped back to his senses and looked at the clean canvas, frowning.

Looking at the time, Lin Sui gasped. He had been daydreaming for half an hour!

Helpless, Lin Sui had to bite the bullet and start painting on the canvas. He painted whatever came to mind, adhering to the principle of filling it up even if he didn’t know what to do. In the end, the canvas was successfully occupied by colors. As for the effect…

Lin Sui closed his eyes and pushed the canvas to the window to dry, optimistically thinking that maybe the teacher wouldn’t throw this pile of crap in his face because of his hard work.

After finishing the painting, it was almost dinner time. Because he still had a scarf to knit, Lin Sui simply made a quick noodle soup and hurried back to his room to fight for money.

Gu Nian slowly ate his noodles, thinking that Lin Sui must be out of money after buying the yarn.

How could he subsidize the little guy without revealing himself?

Compared to oil painting, knitting a scarf was easy for Lin Sui. Two silver crochet hooks rose and fell like butterflies between his slender fingers, and the yarn, bunched into a ball, quickly transformed into a square, warm scarf. Lin Sui even showed off his skills by knitting a golden ginkgo leaf on it, which was very harmonious and especially suitable for the upcoming autumn.

In this strange world, Lin Sui finally found a familiar feeling. Once he started knitting, he couldn’t help but get carried away, adding some small details to the original design to make the scarf look more delicate and more expensive.

Okay, he admitted, the latter was the main point.

He knitted until nine o’clock. Lin Sui looked at the time and put down the crochet hooks, stretched his sore fingers, put the half-knitted scarf away, and got up to go to Gu Nian’s room.

    “Gu Nian, Gu Nian!”

The young man’s energetic voice came from outside the door. Gu Nian, who was handling company affairs, paused slightly, quickly hid the documents, and said, “Come in.”

Lin Sui pushed open the door, went to Gu Nian’s side in a few steps, put his hands on Gu Nian’s wheelchair, leaned forward slightly, and his round almond eyes were pure and clear. “I’m here to give you a massage!”

Gu Nian’s face instantly turned cold, and he spat out three words, “Get out.”

The tone was extremely cold, and the content was merciless. An ordinary person would probably be angry and slam the door and leave. After saying that, Gu Nian stiffened for a moment, and concealed the regret that leaked from his eyes. His thin lips were pursed into a straight line.

He shouldn’t have lost control of his emotions. Lin Sui was probably just being kind.

Gu Nian felt inexplicably nervous. Lin Sui looked delicate and soft and hadn’t suffered any grievances. What if he was angered to tears later?

Should he coax him? But how?

Various thoughts popped up in Gu Nian’s mind. Before he could sort them out, he suddenly felt a faint orange scent on his nose, and it was getting closer and closer.

He raised his hand to stop it, but the next second, he froze in mid-air.

    Lin Sui hugged him.

Gu Nian had almost forgotten to blink.

The young man’s body was unexpectedly soft and warm, exuding a pleasant, fresh scent. He hugged him lightly, as if he were holding a treasured baby, and every strand of hair could feel the careful tenderness.

Gu Nian’s arm, which remained in the air, hesitated, unsure of what to do. He wanted to lower it, but it didn’t seem like he was trying to push away or block.

“Don’t be shy. It’s just routine care. It’s not a big deal.” Lin Sui gently patted Gu Nian’s back, and the warm breath from his mouth sprayed into Gu Nian’s ear. His voice was gentle and firm. “Let me give you a massage? Just treat it as me wanting to try it out. Will you practice with me? I’m only embarrassed to ask you. If you don’t accompany me, I’ll have to massage a dummy.”

Gu Nian’s Adam’s apple rolled violently, his lips parted slightly, but he couldn’t make a sound.

His mind was blank, and only a vague idea was churning deep inside.

He seemed to have been coaxed?

Gu Nian didn’t have the energy to think about why he was the one being coaxed. The meaning of Lin Sui’s hug alone was enough to make him dizzy. The repulsion he had felt because of his legs had long been thrown out of his mind by the warm body in his arms, and all he could think about was whether he should hug back.

There are many meanings to hugs. It shouldn’t cause any misunderstandings if he secretly hugged him, right?

Gu Nian hesitantly stretched out a finger, breathlessly watching his hand slowly fall and approach Lin Sui’s shoulder, and then, the second before he touched his clothes – Lin Sui suddenly stood up.

“If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as you agreeing.” Lin Sui didn’t notice Gu Nian’s dazed expression and walked behind Gu Nian on his own, pushing him towards the bed without explanation. “I saw that there’s still a lot of the massage oil we used last time, let’s use that.”

    Gu Nian: …

Gu Nian frowned and reached for the handbrake on the armrest. Lin Sui was prepared. He quickly pressed down on Gu Nian’s large hand, his dark eyes fixed on Gu Nian. “Trust me once, just once, okay?”

Gu Nian was silent for a long time, and reluctantly withdrew his hand, the expression on his face still not very good.

Damn it, why was Lin Sui acting so spoiled?
