AMTBYIGA Chapter 18
by VolareChapter 18: Both Are Good-Looking
Lin Sui sent a message to the driver who had brought them earlier. The driver must have been picking up fares nearby because he appeared in their sight in less than five minutes.
As he helped Gu Nian into the car, he thought that the driver was really dedicated, and it was definitely the right choice to add his contact information.
After settling into the car, Lin Sui remembered that he had forgotten to ask where they were going next. He turned to look at Gu Nian, “Do you have anywhere else you want to go?”
Gu Nian raised an eyebrow, answering with a question, “Do you have anywhere you want to go?”
Lin Sui nodded, “We’re out of groceries at home, so I’m going to buy some.” Thinking that Gu Nian’s question meant he didn’t have any particular destination, he continued, “I’ll take you home first, and then I’ll go shopping.”
Gu Nian neither agreed nor disagreed, but closed his eyes and said lightly, “I want to go back to the old residence. The address is ×××××××.”
The last sentence was clearly directed at the driver.
Lin Sui looked at the man who nonchalantly said those words and then closed his eyes to rest. He puffed out his cheeks in annoyance and, after making sure Gu Nian couldn’t see, stuck his tongue out at him. If you wanted to go somewhere, why didn’t you just say so!
The driver in the front saw this scene through the rearview mirror, got such a fright that he quickly averted his gaze and started the car. He was internally debating whether or not to tell the boss about this.
Although it was rumored that the boss and the boss’s wife didn’t have a good relationship, from these two trips, they didn’t seem to be on bad terms at all.
The driver drove down a road he could navigate with his eyes closed, and after thinking about it for half the trip, he finally decided not to tell the boss. It wasn’t a big deal anyway, and maybe this was just their version of fun.
The black Benz stopped in front of a villa that occupied an extremely large area. When Lin Sui pushed Gu Nian out of the car, he once again revealed an expression of someone who had never seen the world. His little mouth was so open that his jaw almost dropped.
In fact, calling it a villa was an understatement. Lin Sui felt that it was more appropriate to call it a manor. The garden outside the main building alone was four or five hundred meters wide, and various precious flowers were carefully planted on both sides. In the distance, there was a large green lawn that looked like a golf course.
The Gu family had a long and distinguished history. The exterior of the old residence showed traces of time, but it was well-maintained, showing that the owner cherished it.
However, the better it was maintained, the more conspicuous certain areas became. Lin Sui looked at a patch of the garden that had clearly been trampled on and felt a pang of regret.
Looking more closely, he realized that it wasn’t just the garden. The golf course on the other side, the trees on both sides, and even the walls of the main building all had signs of damage. Even Lin Sui, who didn’t know much about these things, could feel the heartache.
He wondered who the heartless bastard who did this was.
Lin Sui grumbled inwardly as he pushed Gu Nian to the entrance of the main building, only to discover that the door had a combination lock.
Gu Nian raised his hand and entered a few numbers, and then they heard a harsh mechanical voice—
“Incorrect password.”
“…”
The air suddenly froze.
Gu Nian’s eyes instantly turned icy, like a lump of ice.
Lin Sui’s animal instincts were triggered, and he subconsciously pressed down on Gu Nian’s shoulder, giving it an appeasing squeeze, offering silent comfort.
The cold aura accumulating around Gu Nian stiffened and dissipated by seventy or eighty percent with that squeeze. He inconspicuously glanced at the hand on his shoulder and knocked on the door with a blank expression.
The sound insulation of the old residence’s door wasn’t very good. Lin Sui vaguely heard a complaining voice coming from inside, which didn’t sound like a nanny or housekeeper, but more like a young woman—
Before Lin Sui could finish his thought, the door in front of him was suddenly flung open, and before the two of them could speak, the young woman who opened the door started chattering shrilly.
“Who is it, knocking on other people’s doors when they have nothing better to do…”
The sharp and mean voice abruptly stopped. The woman looked at Gu Nian as if she had seen a ghost, and her hand reflexively went to close the door.
Lin Sui quickly darted forward to block it. He understood that this wasn’t a good person either, so he put on a stern expression on his round face and tried to be serious, “This is the Gu family’s residence, of course Gu Nian can come back.”
The young woman’s eyes immediately revealed contempt. She looked at Lin Sui and Gu Nian through her nostrils, “What Gu family member? He can’t even get into the company.” She smoothed her hair, proudly showing off, “My son is now in charge of sensory matters at Gu’s Corporation. Gu Nian, a person without a job, is he even qualified to say that his surname is Gu?”
This series of sarcastic and personal attacks made Lin Sui’s eyes widen in anger. He was about to retort on the spot when he suddenly felt something cold tap his hand. He turned his head and saw Gu Nian shaking his head slightly at him.
Lin Sui was not convinced and wanted to say something more, but after noticing the loneliness in Gu Nian’s eyes, he suddenly stopped talking. After stubbornly hesitating for a moment, he reluctantly returned to Gu Nian’s side.
Gu Nian indifferently looked at the strange woman in front of him, as if looking at trash, “Get out of the way.”
The woman’s eyes widened again, about to explode, but when she met Gu Nian’s bottomless black eyes, she inexplicably chickened out. She stuck out her neck and said sternly but weakly, “What right do you, a cripple, have to order me around?”
Ice began to form in Gu Nian’s eyes again, and he exuded the power of someone who had been in a high position for a long time. Even in a wheelchair, it didn’t diminish his aura at all, “If you still want to live your comfortable life now, get out of the way.”
The aura he exuded was too terrifying, like being locked on by a beast. The woman was so frightened that her expression went blank. Lin Sui seized the opportunity, reached out and pulled her away, then proudly pushed Gu Nian into the main hall.
Gu Nian restrained his dangerous gaze, fondly looking at the things in front of him. He had been raised here by his grandfather since he was a child, and every object here was a part of his memories.
However, the obvious scratches on some of the furniture quickly soured Gu Nian’s mood. He looked grimly at the marks that were clearly carved with a knife, and it took him a long time to look away.
He had come today to retrieve the relics left by his grandfather. If it weren’t for this, he wouldn’t have bothered to see the ugly postures of these people showing off.
Under Gu Nian’s instructions, Lin Sui pushed the wheelchair to the third floor. This floor was quite spacious, but most of the rooms had been sealed off. Only the master bedroom in the middle was still accessible.
As soon as they entered, Gu Nian broke free from Lin Sui’s control, turning the wheelchair himself and impatiently going to a bookshelf on one side, searching for something with his head lowered.
Lin Sui deduced from the room’s furnishings that this should be Gu Grandpa’s room when he was alive, so he understood why Gu Nian had come here. Discreetly, he didn’t disturb him, but wandered around the room himself and was soon attracted by a photo frame placed on the bedside table.
The frame was made of Zitan wood, and inside was a photo of a young man. The young man stood on a high podium, his body slender and straight, his expression cold and arrogant, and his black pupils revealed composure and confidence. The whole person was glowing.
Lin Sui glanced back at Gu Nian, blocking the bedside table with his body, and picked up the photo to look at it carefully.
The photo naturally showed Gu Nian, but the person in the photo looked a little green, and should have been just after adulthood. His whole body exuded the vigor of a young man, which was not like the gloomy and taciturn appearance of the present.
Lin Sui gently stroked the photo, not even realizing how radiant the expression on his face was. He looked at it back and forth with relish—this was exactly like the Gu Nian he imagined!
He had read the entire plot of the book and knew some things about Gu Nian’s youth. Gu Nian had a halo of genius from the very beginning of his studies. He skipped grades all the way through school, graduated from university at the age of eighteen, and began to take over the family business as soon as he came of age, managing it in an orderly manner. He was the nightmare of all his peers in the circle.
This was also why the malice of those people at the wedding was so great. After being compared and belittled for a long time, these people didn’t think about their own shortcomings, but instead blamed others for being too good. Even now, Lin Sui still wanted to curse people when he thought about it.
On the other side, Gu Nian had already found what he was looking for, carefully took it out and put it away. When he turned his head, he saw Lin Sui smiling foolishly at something, and then frowning with a fierce expression, not knowing what he was thinking.
He was now a little used to not understanding Lin Sui’s brain circuits. He turned the wheelchair over to take a look and was stunned again. Lin Sui was actually looking at his photo.
Gu Nian didn’t like taking pictures, so there weren’t many photos left. After the accident and disability, he was even more reluctant to look at photos of himself when he was healthy—it would always remind him of how unbearable and embarrassed he was now.
If someone else was here looking at the photo, Gu Nian might have already coldly chased them away, but when it was Lin Sui, he strangely found that it felt okay.
Perhaps it was because the little guy’s smile was too silly, and there was no way he was mocking him.
Gu Nian withdrew his thoughts, raised his eyes and saw Lin Sui touching his photo, feeling inexplicably uncomfortable. He coughed and said lightly, “What are you looking at? Let’s go.”
Lin Sui was so engrossed in his viewing that he was startled. His round eyes widened immediately. If his right ear had been here, it should have been flattened into aircraft ears.
Gu Nian felt it was a little funny and deliberately looked at the photo frame in his hand, lowering his voice, “Is my photo that good-looking? What, are you starting to dislike the way I look now?”
Lin Sui immediately shook his head vigorously, then nodded again, and explained in a serious tone, “The one in the photo is good-looking, and you are good-looking now, I like both.”
Gu Nian felt his ears heat up. He muttered in his heart, how could this guy be so fond of saying these saccharine words without feeling shy? He didn’t show it on his face, though, and said, “Let’s go.”
“Oh.” Lin Sui responded and then hesitantly opened his mouth, “Um, can I take this away?” He held the photo frame to his chest.
Gu Nian raised an eyebrow, squinting his eyes as if examining something. After a long time, he casually said “Mmm,” and turned to push the door open.
Lin Sui breathed a sigh of relief, his eyes immediately curved into crescents, and happily stuffed the photo frame into his bag, specially wrapping a layer of unused clothes outside to prevent it from being damaged.
Because of his delay, Gu Nian had already reached the first floor when he went out. Lin Sui quickly took the elevator down. As soon as the elevator door opened, before he could even see anyone, he first heard an unfamiliar male voice yelling loudly.
The words spoken were very unpleasant, even vicious.
“Gu Nian, what are you doing here? You dare to bully your aunt? Your wings have hardened, huh? And what are you holding? You’ve become a cripple and still haven’t learned your lesson. Did you learn to steal things?”
Then there was the sound of someone snatching something. Gu Nian didn’t say a word throughout the whole process, terrifyingly silent.
Lin Sui’s brain buzzed and exploded. Adrenaline rushed straight up, and all the blood in his body rushed to the top of his head, snapping the line of reason.
He rolled up his sleeves, and before the elevator door could fully open, he rushed out with a menacing aura.
He was going to see who dared to touch his cub!
