    Chapter 21 Secret Competition

On Monday evening, the setting sun dyed the campus a warm orange-red color, and the evening breeze, carrying the fragrance of vegetation, gently blew through the window lattice of the teaching building.

The school hall has already become lively. The lights on the stage are adjusted brightly and dazzlingly. The seats under the stage are neatly arranged, and the staff are shuttled among them, making final preparations.

Tonight, the much-anticipated campus singing competition will be held here.

After Xie Shuhan finished his dinner, he simply tidied up and walked towards the backstage of the hall.

He changed into a clean white shirt, with the cuffs rolled up to his forearms, revealing his smooth wrists. The evening breeze added a bit of color to his originally pale face.

The symptoms of the cold have improved a lot, but my voice still has an imperceptible hoarseness.

Backstage, other contestants were busy putting on makeup and practicing their voices. The air was filled with the faint fragrance of cosmetics and the atmosphere of nervousness and excitement.

Xie Shuhan found a quiet corner to sit down and waited for his appearance.

On the other side, Lu Jin couldn’t hold back his excitement for a long time. After eating, he pulled Yu Yifan and rushed to the hall.

“Hurry up, hurry up, if you get there late, your seat in the first row will be gone!” He walked quickly, his eye-catching short silver hair shining in the sunset, and his face could not conceal his anticipation.

Yu Yifan was pulled almost to a trot by him, and said breathlessly: “Brother Jin, are you in such a hurry? The game only started at seven o’clock, and it’s only half past six now!”

“Can it be the same?” Lu Jin turned around and glared at him, “The first row has the best view. What if someone else takes it?”

While they were talking, the two of them rushed into the hall.

Sure enough, although there were many people in the hall, there were still a few empty seats in the first row.

Lu Jin raised his chin proudly, pulled Yu Yifan over and sat down on the two seats in the middle.

“Perfect!” He patted the seat next to him with a satisfied look on his face, “Now I can enjoy my Hanhan’s singing up close.”

Yu Yifan sat down next to him, looking at his excited expression, he couldn’t help but shake his head and laugh.

When Lu Jin thought of Xie Shuhan standing in the center of the stage, surrounded by lights, Lu Jin’s heart beat a little faster for no reason.

Not long after the two sat down, before the bench was even warm, a gentle voice came from the side.”What a coincidence, we meet again.”

Lu Jin followed the sound and saw the man who had been chatting with Xie Shuhan at the door of Duzhi Building that morning, walking towards them with a smile.

The man was still wearing the pressed light blue shirt and thin-rimmed gold glasses. His eyes behind the lenses were gentle and polite.

He sat down on the empty seat next to Lu Jin, his eyes fell on Lu Jin, and asked in a friendly tone: “Classmate, are you also here to watch Shuhan’s competition?”

As soon as he heard the name “Shuhan”, Lu Jin felt inexplicably unhappy. Especially when he saw Zhou Yan’s appearance of being familiar with Xie Shuhan, jealousy instantly surged up.

He curled his lips, deliberately raised one leg and put it on the other leg, assuming a rebellious posture, raised his chin slightly, and said in a deliberately provocative tone: “It’s a coincidence, of course I’m here to see Hanhan.”

He said the word “Hanhan” very affectionately, even with a hint of showing off, as if he was declaring that he and Xie Shuhan were closer.

Yu Yifan sat next to him and almost couldn’t hold back his laughter when he heard this title.

He held it in so hard that his shoulders shook slightly and he covered his mouth with his hand.

Lu Jin had long expected that he would react like this. He quickly stretched out his hand and pinched Yu Yifan’s thigh hard.

“Hiss!” Yu Yifan gasped in pain, quickly covered his mouth and slapped Lu Jin’s hand away.

I complained secretly in my heart: Brother Jin was too cruel, and he didn’t show any mercy at all!

He glanced at Lu Jin secretly, but saw that Lu Jin didn’t look at him at all. His attention was entirely on Zhou Yan. His eyes seemed to be guarding against something, like a little beast protecting its food.

Zhou Yan didn’t seem to notice the little incident between the two, and still maintained a gentle smile. He adjusted the glasses frame on the bridge of his nose and introduced himself politely: “Let me introduce myself. My name is Zhou Yan. I am from the law school.”

“Lu Jin.” Lu Jin’s response was concise and clear, his tone was light and a little distant.

Zhou Yan didn’t seem to care about his indifference, but instead took the initiative to find a topic to talk about, with a hint of expectation in his tone: “Shuhan and I have known each other for so long, but I have never heard him sing before. This time I came here to cheer him up.”

“We’ve known each other for so long”, these words were like needles, accurately piercing Lu Jin’s pain point.

In Lu Jin’s heart, there were ten thousand grass and mud horses galloping past: I know you have known each other for a long time, do you need to emphasize it so repeatedly? Are you afraid that others won’t know that you have a good relationship with Xie Shuhan?

He rolled his eyes in his heart, but his face still maintained a superficial calm, but the curve of the corner of his mouth was a little colder.

He rolled his eyes, looked at Zhou Yan, and asked casually, “May I ask, classmate Zhou, which high school did you go to before?”

“Qinghe No. 1 Middle School.” Zhou Yan answered truthfully without thinking too much, his tone still gentle.

Hearing these four words, Lu Jin’s heart suddenly sank, and then he felt an indescribable ecstasy.

Qinghe No. 1 Middle School?Isn’t that the high school you attended?

So, he and Xie Shuhan are also high school classmates!

Although he didn’t seem to notice Xie Shuhan much in high school, he was still an alumnus of the same school. Rounding things off, they had known each other for a long time, right?

Thinking of this, Young Master Lu’s self-confidence instantly exploded, and his waist straightened up a lot.

He raised his eyebrows, with a proud smile on his face, and a bit of showoff in his tone: “What a coincidence, I also graduated from Qinghe No. 1 Middle School.”

Hearing this, Zhou Yan’s eyes flashed with understanding, and then he smiled and nodded: “I know, I felt a little familiar when I saw you just now. Now that I think about it, I must have met you in school.”

Lu Jin couldn’t help complaining in his heart: Not only had he met him before, he was a “celebrity” in Qinghe No. 1 Middle School when he was in high school.

He often skipped class to play ball. After being caught by the teacher, he was pulled to the flag-raising platform to read a letter of self-reflection.

Every time he wanted to review, he looked carefree and spoke in an arrogant tone, but he always spoke clearly and logically, which made the students in the audience laugh secretly.

The principal also loves and hates him. What he loves is his talent and excellent grades, but what he hates is his disobedient temper.

But who can get into Qinghe No. 1 Middle School and not be a top student?

As a key high school in the city, Qinghe No. 1 Middle School has a frighteningly high admission score. The students who can get in are almost all the best in each junior high school, and their grades are naturally the same.

Lu Jin thought of his “glorious deeds” in high school, and a scornful smile unconsciously appeared on his lips, but he quickly restrained it.

As for Xie Shuhan, do you have an impression of yourself? He is very popular in school, so he should be quite famous.

There were more and more people in the hall, and the noisy voices gradually drowned out the small interludes in the corners.

The lights on the stage gradually dimmed, leaving only a spotlight shining on the host, and the competition was about to begin.

At this moment, Yu Yifan seemed to deliberately want to tease Lu Jin, so he leaned close to his ear, imitating Lu Jin’s tone just now, and shouted softly: “Hanhan~” in a voice that only the two of them could hear.

The shout was soft and numb, and Lu Jin’s face instantly darkened.

He turned his head suddenly, glared at Yu Yifan, his eyes were filled with ice, and uttered two words coldly: “Shut up.”

Yu Yifan was frightened by his look and fell silent for a moment. He quickly sat up straight and pretended to look at the stage seriously, but he was secretly laughing in his heart.

Lu Jin ignored Yu Yifan and returned his attention to the stage.

He was both looking forward to it and a little nervous. He was looking forward to Xie Shuhan’s appearance and wanted to hear his singing as soon as possible, but he was also worried that his performance would be affected by a cold.

Zhou Yan didn’t seem to take Lu Jin’s indifference to heart. He just sat quietly, looking gently towards the backstage of the stage, with a touch of expectation on his face, obviously waiting for Xie Shuhan to appear.

The air seemed to be filled with invisible gunpowder smoke.

The host on the stage has begun to introduce the rules of the competition, and the audience gradually quieted down, focusing on the center of the stage.

The lights were bright, the crowd was buzzing, and the singing competition officially kicked off.
