    Chapter 17 Eat together

The afterglow at six o’clock in the evening dyed the stone pavement on the back street of the school into a warm golden color.

The wooden signboard of the private restaurant swayed gently in the breeze, and the red lantern on the lintel shed a soft light.

Xie Shuhan appeared at the door on time, his fingertips unconsciously rubbing his sleeves.

He was wearing a light gray sweater and black casual pants. He had a tall and slim figure.

The evening breeze blew by, blowing the broken hair on his forehead, revealing his smooth forehead and the faint mole at the end of his eye, adding a bit of softness to his cold temperament.

Just after standing still for a moment, there were rapid footsteps behind him, accompanied by the boy’s hearty breathing.

Lu Jin came running all the way, his silver hair hanging loosely on his forehead, wet with sweat, but still dazzling.

The wind lifted the hem of his clothes, and the young man’s high-spirited look was like a living light, instantly illuminating the entire street.

In a daze, Xie Shuhan seemed to see the young Lu Jin from many years ago.

He was like this at that time, running wantonly in the sun with a bright smile, and inadvertently broke into his youth, which he could never erase again.

“Huh… let’s go.” Lu Jin bent over and took a breath, his chest rising and falling slightly. When he looked up at Xie Shuhan, there was a lingering smile in his eyes, as if they were filled with starlight.

Xie Shuhan retracted his thoughts, nodded slightly, and walked into the restaurant first.

This private restaurant specializes in local cuisine, with mild taste and elegant environment. He has been here several times with friends before and had a good impression.

Pushing open the carved wooden door, the rich aroma of vegetables mixed with the fragrance of wood hit your face. The waiter immediately greeted him enthusiastically: “Please come in, do you have a reservation?”

“No, I want a private room.” Xie Shuhan said.

The waiter led the two people through the lobby and into a small box on the second floor.

The furnishings of the private room are simple, and the street view can be seen from the window position. The warm yellow light illuminates the entire room, creating a warm and private atmosphere.

The two sat opposite each other. Xie Shuhan pushed the menu in front of Lu Jin and said in a calm tone: “You order it and see if there is anything you like.”

Lu Jin picked up the menu and flipped through it. His eyes scanned the densely packed dish names. He casually ticked off a few dishes that looked good and pushed the menu back: “I’m free. You’ve been here and you know what’s delicious. Just order more.”

As he spoke, his eyes fell on Xie Shuhan’s face unconsciously. The more he looked at it, the more beautiful it looked. Even the way he looked down at the menu looked particularly beautiful.

Xie Shuhan did not refuse. He took the menu and looked at it carefully. He ran his fingertips across the paper and ordered a few light vegetables and a soup before handing the menu to the waiter: “That’s it. Please serve it as soon as possible.”

The waiter withdrew and the room fell into a brief silence.

Lu Jin couldn’t sit still. He wanted to talk to Xie Shuhan more, but he didn’t know where to start. He could only look at the person opposite him with his peripheral vision.

Xie Shuhan seemed much more calm. He poured himself a cup of warm tea and took a sip. The fragrance of the tea filled his mouth, relieving some of the inexplicable tension.

“I heard that you are going to participate in the singing competition?” Lu Jin was the first to break the silence, with a hint of curiosity and expectation in his tone.

“Yes.” Xie Shuhan nodded, put down the tea cup, and gently rubbed the rim of the cup with his fingertips.

“What song are you going to sing?” Lu Jin asked, feeling slightly uneasy.

He couldn’t help but think of the words in Xie Shuhan’s notebook, fearing that he was singing a soulful confession song and that the person in the song was not him.

Xie Shuhan raised his eyes and glanced at him, a hint of cunning flashed in his eyes, and the corners of his mouth raised slightly, but he didn’t say clearly: “You will know when the time comes, just leave it in suspense.”

His smile was shallow and fleeting, but like a pebble, it caused ripples in Lu Jin’s heart.

Lu Jin looked at the smile in his eyes, and most of the anxiety in his heart dissipated in an instant, leaving only full of expectations: “Okay, then I will definitely go to the scene to cheer you on.”

“Okay.” Xie Shuhan responded, his tone still calm, but with a hint of imperceptible warmth.

The serving speed of this restaurant is very fast, and it didn’t take long for the dishes to be served one after another.

    Braised short ribs are bright in color and rich in sauce;

    Stir-fried seasonal vegetables are green and refreshing, with a light fragrance;

There is also a bowl of winter melon, kelp and pork ribs soup. The soup is clear and fragrant.

Lu Jin picked up his chopsticks and picked out a piece of the braised pork ribs he ordered. It was soft and fall off the bones in the mouth, with the right balance of salty and sweet. It tasted really good.

Then, he took another bite of the sweet and sour pork ribs ordered by Xie Shuhan. It was sweet and sour, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, just in line with his taste.

He tasted several other dishes one after another, and found that every dish Xie Shuhan ordered hit his taste buds accurately, as if he already knew what he liked to eat.

“It’s delicious!” Lu Jin’s eyes lit up. He looked up at Xie Shuhan and said sincerely, “This store tastes really good. We’ll come back next time.”

Xie Shuhan was eating his meal quietly with his head down. His movements were elegant and calm. Even when he was simply eating, he exuded an innate nobility.

Hearing Lu Jin’s words, he raised his eyes and looked over, and happened to meet Lu Jin’s fiery gaze.

Lu Jin’s eyes were very bright, as if they were hiding a sea of stars, with unabashed joy and appreciation.

“Why are you looking at me? Isn’t it delicious?” Xie Shuhan noticed that he had been staring at him, his cheeks were slightly hot, and he subconsciously avoided his gaze.

“It’s delicious, it’s so delicious!” Lu Jin said quickly, picked up another chopstick of sweet and sour pork ribs, and ate it like a satisfied dog.

Xie Shuhan watched him wolfing down the food, and a slight smile unconsciously appeared on his lips. It was gentle and genuine, but Lu Jin, who was lowering his head to eat, didn’t see it.

In fact, he has known Lu Jin’s taste for a long time. Over the years, he has been paying attention to Lu Jin silently. He clearly remembers what he likes to eat and what he doesn’t like to eat.

The two of them chatted occasionally while eating. Most of the time, Lu Jin was talking and Xie Shuhan was listening.

After eating, Xie Shuhan got up first and walked towards the cashier.

Lu Jin quickly followed and wanted to pay first, but was stopped by Xie Shuhan: “I agreed to treat you, no need to fight.”

His tone was firm and left no room for doubt.

Lu Jin was stunned for a moment and watched Xie Shuhan take out his bank card and hand it to the waiter. He could only smile helplessly: “Okay, I’ll treat you next time.”

“Okay.” Xie Shuhan nodded, with a smile in his eyes.

When the two of them walked out of the restaurant, night had fallen, and the moon quietly climbed up the treetops, casting cool moonlight.

The evening breeze blew in my face, bringing with it a hint of coolness, blowing away the laziness after the meal.

There were not many pedestrians on the street. Occasionally, vehicles passed by, leaving a faint sound of cars.

“Go back to the dormitory?” Lu Jin asked, slowing down, wanting to spend more time with Xie Shuhan.

“Yeah.” Xie Shuhan responded, turning to look at him, “You should go back early, before it’s too late.”

“Okay,” Lu Jin nodded, and couldn’t help but warn, “It’s windy at night, so remember to wear more clothes when you go back, and remember to take your medicine on time.”

His tone was full of concern, like a nagging little adult.

Xie Shuhan felt warm in his heart and softly said “hmm”. The coldness in his eyes gradually melted away and gentle ripples appeared.

“You too, please be safe on the road.”

After saying that, he turned around and walked towards the dormitory. The moonlight stretched his figure very long.

Lu Jin stood there, watching his back gradually go away, until he disappeared at the corner of the street, then he slowly turned around and left.

He didn’t know who the person in Xie Shuhan’s heart was, and he didn’t know if his love would bear fruit.

But he just wanted to cherish every minute and every second he spent with Xie Shuhan. Even such a simple meal was enough to make him happy for a long time.
