I Don’T Want To Be This Master For A Day Anymore. Chapter 4
byThis Counts as Rushing the Marriage
The progress on reinforcing the seal was smooth. In the past few days, good news had continuously arrived from the major sects, finally easing Qiu Yin’an’s mood. Now, they were just waiting for Qimen Pavilion to calculate a suitable date before commencing the operation.
Inside West Mountain Hall, Qiu Yin’an was also performing divination. Yao Ye had been taking refuge here for the past two days, seeking peace.
“Yin’an, isn’t Qimen Pavilion already selecting a date? Why are you still calculating here yourself?” Yao Ye propped one arm on the table, resting his head on it as he watched Qiu Yin’an.
Qiu Yin’an paused the hand lightly turning the compass and replied, “Qimen Pavilion relies on Xuan Kong Flying Stars for selection, which takes more than a day or two to calculate. I am using the Liu Ren method. Although this method is not as precise as theirs, it can still estimate the approximate time.”
Yao Ye immediately raised his hands to cover his ears. “Alright, alright, stop talking. I came here for some quiet, and you’re talking about this with me.”
Qiu Yin’an frowned and sighed deeply. “How long has it been since the Immortal Sect Assembly? Does the vow you made to diligently cultivate no longer count? You become so impatient when I talk to you about a little bit of Daoist techniques. How are you going to advance to the True Man Realm in the future?”
“Oh, why do you sound exactly like my sister?” Yao Ye scratched his head irritably. “I’m just not naturally suited for this. Besides, our Jiuling Mountain specializes in artifact cultivation. It’s not like I’m unskilled in forging spiritual artifacts. My sister always forces me to compare my realm with a bunch of sword cultivators and body cultivators. What’s the point? Everyone has their strengths. Although I can’t beat them in a fight, they can’t match me in forging spiritual artifacts.”
Qiu Yin’an: “You seem quite satisfied with yourself.”
Yao Ye: “Of course I’m satisfied. It’s my sister who is always dissatisfied. She keeps saying that she can only marry once I advance to the True Man Realm. If she wants to get married, she should just get married. It’s not like I’m stopping her. These two things don’t interfere with each other at all. I don’t know why she rushes me all day long.”
Qiu Yin’an stared at Yao Ye for a moment, then asked, “Jiuling Mountain has countless spiritual artifacts and treasures. Do you know how many sects are eyeing that piece of fat your family holds? Once your sister marries, can you guard such a vast family fortune all by yourself?”
“So what? Do you think they dare to steal it? My sister is just marrying far away, she’s not dead.” Yao Ye said, leaning closer to Qiu Yin’an. He hugged Qiu Yin’an’s arm and deliberately spoke in a high-pitched voice, “Besides, don’t I have you? My dear brother, they all know we are as close as siblings. Who would dare lay a hand on me?”
Qiu Yin’an raised an eyebrow slightly. “Oh, is that so? I was originally planning to rob Jiuling Mountain first.”
Yao Ye: “Go ahead and rob it, rob it. You’d better take me with you too.”
Qiu Yin’an pushed him away. “You’re causing trouble here. I can’t concentrate on my divination. Go wander around for a bit.”
Yao Ye: “Just leave this matter to Qimen Pavilion. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go down the mountain and wander around instead?”
Qiu Yin’an ignored him. Yao Ye got up and walked out, saying as he went, “You, you clearly don’t know how to enjoy life. You worry too much.”
After Yao Ye left, Qiu Yin’an closed his eyes and calmed his mind, thinking he could finally perform the calculation in peace. Unexpectedly, before he could finish one hand seal, Yao Ye rushed back in a panic.
“Someone’s coming. I didn’t see clearly if it was my sister.” Yao Ye said, diving under the desk, then added, “Don’t tell anyone I’m here. If she forces me to cultivate again, I’ll really go crazy.”
Qiu Yin’an slid his chair back and lightly kicked Yao Ye. “There are only four legs on this desk. How can you expect it to hide you?”
Yao Ye immediately scrambled out and darted around the study in a frenzy. Qiu Yin’an walked to the bookshelf, unlocked it, and said, “Empty these books out. You go inside and wait.” The two of them worked together to tilt the bookshelf forward, causing all the books to fall out. Yao Ye quickly slipped inside.
Just as he closed the cabinet door, he heard someone enter. Qiu Yin’an looked back and saw that it was Chen Liang, that old fellow. He complained inwardly, what kind of eyesight did Yao Ye have? He couldn’t even distinguish between a woman and an old man.
Qiu Yin’an turned, intending to pull Yao Ye out of the cabinet, but then thought, pulling a man out of his bookshelf in front of Chen Liang would look strange. So, Qiu Yin’an locked the cabinet and sat back down in his chair.
“Qiu Yin’an, you have great airs. This Venerable Lord sent people to summon you three times, and you refused to come to East Mountain Hall to apologize. Do you even hold me, the Venerable Lord, in any regard?” Chen Liang’s face was stiff and deadpan, his pupils mostly obscured by his eyelids as he glared.
“I have never admitted that you are the Venerable Lord of Qingxuan Peak,” Qiu Yin’an sat up straight in his chair, head held high, looking straight ahead. His entire demeanor was cold and imposing, clearly the posture of a superior.
Chen Liang sneered. “Since you wouldn’t come, this Venerable Lord has come personally.”
Qiu Yin’an: “What is the matter? Speak quickly.”
“Qiu Yin’an, you—” Chen Liang raised a finger, pointing at Qiu Yin’an, his face flushed with anger. He had come to scold and punish Qiu Yin’an, yet it felt like he was reporting or requesting something.
Chen Liang deliberately puffed out his stomach, trying to increase his presence. With his hands behind his back, he angrily said, “You destroyed Jingyan’s Companion Moon Divine Sword and refused to return the cultivation technique manuals. What do you think I’m here for?”
Qiu Yin’an blinked lightly. “To seek unpleasantness.”
Chen Liang waved a hand. “I won’t waste words arguing with you.”
“Then what else can we do? Have a hearty fight?” Qiu Yin’an’s eyes sharpened. “All the sects now know about the internal conflict between us and are closely watching our movements, hoping we fight fiercely, and either one of us dies. That way, their sects will have a chance to compete for the title of the number one sect in the Cultivation World. What, do you want to fulfill their wishes?”
Chen Liang snorted. “I know you are unhappy, so I can overlook the matter of the Companion Moon Divine Sword, but you must return the cultivation technique manuals.”
“You two father and son are truly alike, both fond of coming to other people’s homes with empty hands to demand things.” Qiu Yin’an picked up the teacup in front of him, took a small sip, and then solemnly uttered four words: “Shameless beyond measure.”
Chen Liang’s old face turned as black as charcoal. “The cultivation technique manuals in Xuanji Pavilion have always been personally guarded by the Venerable Lord. Qiu Yin’an, what do you mean? Are you slapping my face?”
Qiu Yin’an lightly curled his lips. “That’s right, I am slapping your face. I want everyone to know that I, Qiu Yin’an, will never admit defeat, and it is absolutely impossible for you to sit securely in the position of Venerable Lord. I will take back everything that belongs to me, sooner or later.”
“Good, such ambition. This old man likes opponents like you—young, arrogant, and conceited.” A wicked smile suddenly appeared on Chen Liang’s face. “Qiu Yin’an, do you still remember your engagement with Wanzong Mountain?”
Qiu Yin’an’s hand, which was setting down the cup, paused mid-air. “What are you trying to do?”
Chen Liang’s mouth stretched almost to his ears. “I have already sent people to fetch Miss Wan. Tell me, should I send her to your West Mountain Hall, or to Jingyan’s Miyun Pavilion? After all, when the engagement was set, Wanzong Mountain promised her to the Young Lord of Qingxuan Peak, and you no longer hold that title.”
The more Qiu Yin’an looked at Chen Liang, the more disgusted he felt. He leaned back slightly. “Are you threatening me with this?”
“Exactly. If a man has his fiancée snatched away by someone else before she even enters his door, what will people think?” Chen Liang let out a series of vulgar chuckles. “You slapped my face, and I’m returning the favor.”
After the vulgar laughter, Chen Liang put one hand behind his back and stroked his beard with the other, approaching Qiu Yin’an. “Or, you hand over the manuals, and I will drop this matter.”
Qiu Yin’an clenched his back teeth and pointed toward the bookshelf. “Go pick them up yourself.”
“Why are they just piled up here haphazardly?” Chen Liang looked suspiciously at the mess on the floor, but the fact that Qiu Yin’an was returning the manuals still put him in a good mood. Without thinking much, he burst into loud laughter. “What about the rest? Hand them over as well.”
Qiu Yin’an looked at Chen Liang, a faint smile playing on his lips. “You should look at these first.”
Chen Liang walked over, licked his finger, and casually flipped open a page.
Qiu Yin’an turned his head away in distaste. He heard the rustling sound of Chen Liang turning the pages, followed by a loud curse. “You dare to play tricks on this old man!”
Qiu Yin’an leaned against the back of his chair, turning his head to look at Chen Liang, and couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “How is it? Do you appreciate my artwork?”
Chen Liang violently threw the album onto the floor. He glared at Qiu Yin’an. “You are determined not to hand them over, aren’t you? I’m telling you, I have many ways. I will make you personally deliver them back to East Mountain Hall.”
Qiu Yin’an rested a hand on his chin, lightly stroking his lips, deep in thought. “So Yu Jingyan learned his boasting skills from you. You only taught him how to brag, why didn’t you pass on some real skills to him?”
Chen Liang was trembling with rage. “Don’t be smug. You won’t be rampant for long. This old man will never let you act recklessly.”
Qiu Yin’an met his gaze with extreme provocation, then said, “Get lost slowly. I won’t see you out.”
