HR Chapter 35
by VolareChapter 35: Something Happened
Ever since Yan Wuchang took over Xue Bianfu’s position, their faction had been rapidly whitewashing itself. All black market forces were hidden underground, nominally dead but actually still alive. No one could clearly discern the extent of Yan Wuchang’s power. At least in Shang Ning City, apart from the Lu family, no one dared disobey him, and no one dared disrespect him.
On the surface, the Lu family was the top dog in Shang Ning City, but in the shadows lurked Yan Wuchang, a fierce tiger. If a real fight broke out, who would win was anyone’s guess.
Mo Qiu’s most admired person was this Yan Wuchang, who was even more mysterious than Lu Qinyuan. His goal was to expose Yan Wuchang’s true face, and his hobby was hacking into Yan Wuchang’s computer to investigate his various information.
Lu Qinyuan had repeatedly advised him not to provoke unnecessary trouble, but Mo Qiu enjoyed it, saying he would be careful and not to worry about him. Lu Qinyuan had no choice. However, with Mo Qiu constantly keeping an eye on Yan Wuchang, he didn’t need to waste his own energy on it. Still, he routinely reminded him, “Don’t watch too closely, or you’ll get yourself caught.”
“Are you hoping I get caught every day?” In Mo Qiu’s ears, this was a blatant suspicion of his tracking skills. Mo Qiu was displeased, saying, “Don’t boost others’ morale and diminish our own. You’re our boss, how can you say such things to your subordinates every day? Do you think it’s appropriate?”
“Heh, it’s rare that you still remember I’m the boss. Have you ever seen a subordinate talk to their boss like this?” Lu Qinyuan worried about his group of subordinates. Their advantage was their strong abilities, but their disadvantage was that their abilities were too strong, and they often didn’t take others seriously.
Mo Qiu fell silent. Lu Qinyuan said, “Stop playing around, come back and help me. I need to see you tomorrow.” Without giving Mo Qiu a chance to retort, he immediately hung up the phone. If he gave Mo Qiu a chance to speak, they would inevitably have a war of words. Although he won every time, fighting that meaningless war of words with Mo Qiu was tiring and childish.
Looking at the time on his phone, it was still early before dawn. He pressed a string of numbers. Although this was not a suitable time to care for someone, Lu Qinyuan would feel uneasy if he didn’t make this call.
The phone rang for a long time without being answered. Lu Qinyuan then called Zhu Yan: “Bai Ze’s phone isn’t being answered, go see what’s going on. Don’t hang up the phone, I’ll wait.” Lu Qinyuan’s speech sped up. Hearing the sounds of walking, opening doors, and closing doors coming from the other end, he felt a little flustered for some reason.
Bai Ze’s phone had never been unreachable before. It was like a signal, warning of Bai Ze’s safety.
Suddenly, a series of chaotic sounds came from the other end, mixed with several panicked screams. Lu Qinyuan pursed his lips tightly, trying to calm down, waiting patiently. Soon, he received Zhu Yan’s reply: “Something happened to Bai Ze.” His heart thumped, sinking to the bottom.
By the time he drove to the hospital, it was already dawn. Zhu Yan was sitting on a long chair in the corridor, his head drooping and his shoulders slumped, looking like he was repenting for ten thousand deaths. Lu Qinyuan strode forward and kicked Zhu Yan to the ground with one foot: “Speak, what happened!”
Zhu Yan slid backward three or five meters before stopping. He quickly got up and stood in front of Lu Qinyuan, explaining the whole story truthfully. He didn’t like Lu Qingshuang, but he didn’t take the opportunity to exaggerate, and spoke very impartially. Lu Qinyuan’s face was terrifying. He glanced at the emergency room and sat down on the long chair: “Where are they? Bai Ze had an accident, and you’re the only one guarding him? Where’s Cheng Ruoyu?”
“Madam Cheng fainted from excessive anxiety and is in the ward downstairs. Mr. Cheng is with her. Cheng Ruoyu went out and hasn’t returned yet. I’ve already called him, he should be here soon.” Zhu Yan said, looking towards the corridor, then withdrawing his gaze and focusing on the white floor. The floor vaguely reflected his shadow, blurred into a dark mass.
Lu Qinyuan calmed down and said to Zhu Yan, “Guard Bai Ze, or come fight with me, choose one.”
Zhu Yan replied without thinking, “Follow you.”
Lu Qinyuan nodded: “Good. Mo Qiu will be here soon, go pick him up. Mo Qiu will tell you what to do.”
“Yes, Lu-ye.” Zhu Yan turned around and left, his figure quickly disappearing around the corner of the corridor.
Lu Qinyuan went to the ward downstairs to visit Madam Cheng, where he saw Cheng Ruoyu. Cheng Ruoyu was sitting in front of the bed, holding Madam Cheng’s hand, with undisguised joy on his face. Madam Cheng’s face was pale, her eyes red, forcing a smile, and tears flowed down again.
Cheng Du stood with his back to them in front of the window. Judging from his back, he didn’t look happy at all. The atmosphere was strange.
Shu Xiu stood by the door, and called softly when he saw him, “Brother, you’re here.”
Lu Qinyuan scanned Shu Xiu up and down, and asked in a low voice, “What happened?”
Shu Xiu pointed to the outside of the door. Lu Qinyuan exited the ward, and Shu Xiu closed the door and followed him out. Seeming to find it difficult to say, he hesitated before finally saying, “Madam Cheng is pregnant.”
Lu Qinyuan made a single syllable sound: “Oh.” It was impossible to discern his emotions, let alone guess his opinion on this matter.
Cheng Ruoyu quickly came out, his smile gone. This child had come at the wrong time.
The three returned to the outside of the emergency room. Before long, Bai Ze was pushed out, with an oxygen mask on his face, his eyes closed, and his face devoid of color. Only the nearby instruments indicated that this was a living being, a living person. Shu Xiu burst into tears at just one glance, turning away to wipe away his tears secretly.
Cheng Ruoyu barely managed to hold back his tears. Lu Qinyuan also glanced at him before looking away, saying to Shu Xiu, “Go guard Bai Ze, call me immediately if anything happens.”
“Brother!” Shu Xiu choked out, tears streaming down his face. With red eyes like a little rabbit, Lu Qinyuan wouldn’t allow him to refuse: “Go quickly!”
Shu Xiu wiped his eyes and followed Bai Ze’s gurney as it left.
Song Ci took off his mask and walked over, raising his hand to signal them to go to the office to talk.
Song Ci asked, “Has Bai Shao offended anyone?”
Lu Qinyuan and Cheng Ruoyu were perfectly synchronized, and neither rashly spoke.
Song Ci asked again, “Does anyone around Bai Shao take drugs?” He paused and said, “What triggered Bai Shao’s asthma was the Bauhinia pollen, which was found in Bai Shao’s nasal cavity. In addition to Bauhinia pollen, there was also a small amount of heroin. I suspect that the Bauhinia pollen was mixed in the heroin. For some reason, it was spilled, and Bai Shao inhaled it into his lungs. Mixing pollen in heroin, spilling it is no accident, who would do this but an enemy?” Looking at the two silent young men in front of him, Song Ci said, “Who exactly it is, I’m sure the two young masters already have a candidate in mind. I won’t keep you here any longer.”
Lu Qinyuan and Cheng Ruoyu stood up one after another. Cheng Ruoyu asked, “Uncle Song, will my brother’s life be in danger?”
Song Ci said, “Not for now. Who usually takes care of Bai Shao? Please bring that person over. I haven’t done a checkup for Bai Shao in a long time, so I’m not very familiar with his current condition.”
“I’ll send someone over. Please take care of Bai Ze, Uncle Song.” Lu Qinyuan nodded respectfully and left the office with Cheng Ruoyu.
As soon as they left the office, Cheng Ruoyu couldn’t help but curse: “That cheap whore, Lu Qingshuang, actually dared to reach out to my brother! Damn!”
Lu Qinyuan had already dialed Qi Yue’s phone: “Qi Yue, come to Song Ci’s hospital, send Min Jia to my place, and don’t let him go out recently. He’s not allowed to go to anyone’s invitation, even if you die, he’s not allowed to leave a single step, immediately.”
Qi Yue was quite frightened by Lu Qinyuan’s call, muttering, “What do you mean I died, are you cursing me?” Muttering, he called Min Jia to get up. Min Jia’s body was flushed with a red glow from the aftermath of passion (eggplant). Qi Yue couldn’t help but moan (eggplant) at the touch, closing his eyes in pain, “No! No more! I…” A tear ran down the corner of his eye.
“Jiajia, I was wrong, wake up.” Qi Yue kissed away the tears from the corner of his eyes, and began to dress him before Min Jia woke up. Halfway through dressing, Min Jia woke up, dazed and listless. Qi Yue kissed him on the forehead, “Sleep, I won’t bother you.”
Once he was dressed, Min Jia was fully awake, but he was weak and leaned softly on the sofa, asking, “Going out?”
“Lu-ge called and asked me to send you to Lan Yuan, specifically asking me to go to Song Ci’s hospital. I don’t know who was injured,” Qi Yue came over to help Min Jia: “I feel like something big is going to happen. Lu-ge specifically instructed that you can’t leave the villa a single step for any reason.”
Min Jia said disdainfully, “I’m not Xiao Qi, I don’t need him to control me.”
When they arrived at the Lu residence in Lan Yuan, only Sha Tang was there, not in the kitchen but in the study. Qi Yue thought, sure enough, something had happened.
When Sha Tang saw the two of them, he spoke first: “Have you eaten? There’s breakfast downstairs if you haven’t eaten, eat your fill before working.” He picked up a ham sandwich and took a bite: “It’s all simple food, barely enough to fill your stomach.”
Qi Yue didn’t feel anything since he didn’t eat himself. He asked Min Jia, “I’ll get you something to eat, what do you want to eat?”
Min Jia still felt tired and couldn’t keep up his energy. He yawned, “I’m going to sleep. Sha Tang, you can do your own thing, don’t call me even if something happens.” He dragged his feet out of the study.
Qi Yue wanted to follow him, but Sha Tang stopped him, saying in a low voice, “Give your wife a shot to help him sleep. It’s best if he can sleep for a whole day and night.”
Qi Yue’s face was full of reluctance. The last time he lied, the two of them almost fought to the death. Giving him a shot without Min Jia’s consent was worse than giving him a gun. Sha Tang took out a scalpel from his sleeve and flashed the blade, holding it to Qi Yue’s neck: “I’m doing this for his own good. Lu-ye gave a strict order to keep an eye on Min Jia. Lu Qingshuang might make a move on your wife. It’s up to you, anyway, it’s not my wife who’s going to die.”
“Jiajia has no grudges against Lu Qingshuang!” Qi Yue really didn’t want to touch Min Jia’s bottom line.
“How can he have no grudges? Isn’t Min Chu his brother?” Sha Tang said with a helpless look: “Brains, use your brains, don’t talk nonsense, quickly give him the shot. I can’t take care of him when I get busy, what if someone hooks him away by mistake? You wait and cry then.”
Helpless, Qi Yue prepared a dose of medicine, sneaking into Min Jia’s room and giving him the shot, feeling very guilty in his heart, talking to himself: “Jiajia, don’t blame me when you wake up, blame Lu-ge. I’m really afraid that something will happen to you, you have a fiery temper but a soft heart, what if Lu Qingshuang deceives you with a life-threatening reason?” After apologizing for a long time, Qi Yue reluctantly stared at Min Jia a few times before leaving the room.
He had been to that hospital before, it wasn’t far from here. Qi Yue said goodbye to Sha Tang and drove there.
