Chapter Index

    “I haven’t brushed my teeth.”

The call ended, and Kong Xunwen turned to look at Qiu Zhijie, a slight smile still lingering on his face.

Qiu Zhijie understood his meaning, nodding with a hint of annoyance. “I was planning to tell you about this this afternoon.”

Seeing Kong Xunwen part his lips, he quickly added, “It’s not leaving the country immediately, it’s…”

Kong Xunwen watched those lips, the movement slowing down in his eyes, and in those dark pupils.

He confirmed repeatedly from every angle that this was not a joke.

He could complete those two words without Qiu Zhijie needing to finish.

    “Propose.”

Just as the shape of the word was about to be completed, he quickly raised his hand and covered Qiu Zhijie’s mouth.

Qiu Zhijie looked at the approaching young man, who lowered his gaze slightly. At this moment, he couldn’t discern, or rather, analyze any emotion on the other’s face. So he searched and searched, only finding the blush on his cheeks and the tips of his ears, confirming that he wasn’t unhappy.

He had been nervous about making this decision. In fact, when he heard Kong Xunwen say that sentence this morning, he genuinely wanted to give up. But then Kong Xunwen said what he did later.

Kong Xunwen lifted his eyes, the light-colored pupils shining slightly. “I don’t know anything.”

The anxiety in Qiu Zhijie’s heart settled, then began to beat fiercely. He confirmed certain things and was infected by something, leaving only anticipation and excitement in his heart.

He instinctively lowered his head, their lips met, but there was no opportunity to continue.

Pulling back slightly, his gaze conveyed his confusion.

Kong Xunwen took a step back, raising a hand to cover his mouth, revealing only his eyes. He tilted his head, his eyes bright and clearly happy.

Qiu Zhijie could almost complete the image of the raised lips hidden beneath that palm just by looking at those eyes.

Then he heard a very familiar sentence: “I haven’t brushed my teeth.”

If he hadn’t mentioned it, it would have been fine, but once he did, Qiu Zhijie froze.

Kong Xunwen chuckled, turned, and headed to wash up. Qiu Zhijie quickly followed suit.

The mirror reflected the figures of two people, both tidying themselves up.

The kiss that had been interrupted twice finally resumed.

Kong Xunwen’s back was pressed against the wall. He quickly pushed Qiu Zhijie, finding a gap. “It’s wet!”

He patted Qiu Zhijie’s shoulder. Fortunately, the man was obedient and quickly wrapped an arm around his waist, leading him away from that dangerous spot.

Even though they had kissed for a long time, Kong Xunwen still heard Qiu Zhijie complain afterward.

    “You weren’t focused at all.”

    “…”

Kong Xunwen simply turned back and deliberately gave him an eye roll.

Qiu Zhijie didn’t mind at all, and the next moment, he leaned in again.

    *

In the morning, Kong Xunwen had originally said he would rest, but he still started a livestream. Without any prior announcement, not many people were there initially, but many gradually trickled in.

Fans watching the stream today noticed one thing—

    Wenwen was exceptionally happy today.

This was evident not only in his expressions and actions but also in the fact that he held three prize draws shortly after starting the stream.

The prizes were simple and straightforward; he didn’t seem to have prepared anything, so he simply gave out cash.

But when they asked about it, they didn’t get an answer.

Kong Xunwen just blinked. “Did I? Maybe so.”

Qiu Zhijie was busy on his phone nearby, not only replying to the birthday wishes he received but also making changes to some of the afternoon arrangements.

Kong Xunwen didn’t stream for too long; it seemed the main theme of the broadcast was the prize draw.

Amidst their happiness, some puzzled fans voiced their questions and actually received an answer.

An anonymous Zhijie Studio staff member replied below: At this time… I think I know why.

Without waiting to be prompted, he quickly continued: Actually, today is CEO Qiu’s birthday, and our studio takes the day off every year at this time.

After that, he went back to enjoying his holiday, leaving the fans, who had been hit with another dose of sweetness, feeling delighted.

There were also casual onlookers who clicked into the stream: Am I the only one who envies the fact that they get a day off for the boss’s birthday?

A pile of replies followed: You are not the only one.

    *

At noon, after eating, Kong Xunwen prepared to take a nap. However, lying in bed, he couldn’t fall asleep. Qiu Zhijie was busy with something beside him, and to maintain the surprise, he didn’t go over to look.

But time seemed to be passing too slowly.

Just as he was thinking this, Qiu Zhijie, who had been busy with something, entered the room and approached him.

Meeting the young man’s immediate gaze, Qiu Zhijie paused and smiled. “Do you want to leave now?”

Kong Xunwen’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, but he quickly reined it in, hesitating. “But isn’t it not time yet?”

He remembered Qiu Zhijie mentioning leaving at three in the afternoon.

Although the context of that statement hadn’t been serious, Qiu Zhijie wasn’t the type to talk nonsense.

Qiu Zhijie shook his head. “Now is the best time.”

“…” Kong Xunwen blinked, then slowly curved his lips upward.

Qiu Zhijie extended his hand toward him.

Kong Xunwen placed his hand on top, gripping it tightly. “Can we leave now?”

    “I have prepared everything.”

    *

They drove, then boarded a ship. If Kong Xunwen had to describe it, the ship was huge.

He rarely traveled by boat, and sure enough, he felt a little uncomfortable after boarding. However, Qiu Zhijie was well-prepared, and he felt much better after taking some medicine.

They were in a room on the ship and would reach their destination in three hours. Kong Xunwen didn’t even know where they were going.

Qiu Zhijie hadn’t revealed it, so he didn’t ask. He entrusted everything to Qiu Zhijie, watching the churning seawater outside the window, the azure sky, and the white seabirds flying past. Kong Xunwen narrowed his eyes slightly.

“Looks like I won’t have to worry about travel in the future,” he suddenly said.

Qiu Zhijie, who had been looking at him, didn’t immediately react. “Hmm?”

“With you here, I don’t have to think about anything.” Kong Xunwen turned his head, smiling like a mischievous little fox.

“I never intended for you to worry about it,” Qiu Zhijie understood his meaning and stated directly. “You just need to enjoy yourself.”

“As for the rest, the compensation, I will retrieve it myself.” Qiu Zhijie put meaningful emphasis on the word ‘compensation.’

Kong Xunwen wrinkled his nose at him, turned his head, and stopped talking.

Staying cooped up in the room was a bit boring, so Qiu Zhijie soon took Kong Xunwen up to the deck. The sea breeze was strong, blowing their hair wildly, and the light jacket he was wearing flapped around.

The salty smell of the sea rushed toward them.

It was a private yacht, and there was no one else on the deck. Qiu Zhijie went to the ship’s restaurant and brought back some food. Kong Xunwen sat by the table, propping his chin up and watching the sea. Sunlight scattered down, creating sparkling dots on the water. After staring for a long time, when he looked at a darker spot, he felt like the bright, sparkling imprints were still in his vision.

A plate of food was set down in front of him, and a fresh scent wafted up to his nose. Kong Xunwen looked down.

Simple, refreshing cold noodles, garnished with a few beautiful apple slices, cucumber shreds, and tomato slices, along with a pretty pink drink on the side.

Kong Xunwen’s gaze fell on the drink in the cup, and he leaned in to smell it.

    “Guava?” he identified.

Qiu Zhijie nodded. “And lemon and sparkling water.”

Kong Xunwen glanced up at him, nodding in satisfaction. This meal was perfect for the moment.

A small plate of preserved plums was set down. Kong Xunwen looked at it.

Qiu Zhijie said, “To whet your appetite.”

The anticipation and excitement from the morning had subsided somewhat after this time, but not because he was no longer looking forward to it. Kong Xunwen ate while enjoying the sea breeze.

    He nodded. “It’s very good.”

Perhaps it was because he knew that the surprise had already begun.

After eating, Kong Xunwen started to feel sleepy, or rather, he began to feel a little seasick again. So, after only a short time in the sea breeze, he returned to the room.

    Qiu Zhijie followed him back.

When he was woken up again, it was time to disembark.

Kong Xunwen was held close. He hadn’t slept well, constantly dreaming. When he woke up, he couldn’t remember the dreams, only vaguely feeling that they had been happy.

His cheek was gently pinched. Qiu Zhijie said, “Time to get up.”

From then until they disembarked, Kong Xunwen was groggy, only becoming slightly more alert from the wind along the way.

There were quite a few people around, but they weren’t densely packed. Qiu Zhijie quickly led him into a car.

Kong Xunwen was awake but a little listless. He leaned his head against Qiu Zhijie’s shoulder, lacking the desire to even speak.

Qiu Zhijie pressed his head, then raised his arm, pulling the young man fully into his embrace. The surrounding space was instantly filled with his scent.

This made Kong Xunwen feel much better.

The car stopped. Qiu Zhijie got out, and Kong Xunwen followed. His complexion wasn’t great. Qiu Zhijie cupped his face and pressed their cheeks together. “Do you want to rest first?”

Kong Xunwen had a light jacket draped over him, but he felt his nasal passages were dry. He shook his head, feeling much better after getting out of the car.

He also pulled Qiu Zhijie’s hands off his cheeks. There were people behind Qiu Zhijie, who seemed to have followed them after they disembarked, and they looked vaguely familiar.

He turned his head to look at the actual destination behind Qiu Zhijie. It was a string of foreign characters. His English was good, but this wasn’t English, and he didn’t recognize it. So he looked at the small green door. The building was also short and small, and there didn’t seem to be any tall structures inside; he couldn’t see anything.

Seeing the light return to those pale eyes, Qiu Zhijie felt relieved. He tightened the young man’s jacket and pulled out a thermos from somewhere, pouring him some warm water.

Kong Xunwen certainly needed it now. The assistant on the other side finished negotiating with the venue staff, came over, nodded in greeting, and said to Qiu Zhijie, “CEO Qiu, you can go in. Someone will follow you, and you can tell them your requirements.”

    Qiu Zhijie nodded. “Thank you.”

The assistant left. Kong Xunwen blinked, his attention returning. So this was the surprise?

    The place for the proposal?

He wasn’t disappointed yet, but he was truly curious about what Qiu Zhijie was planning to do.

Only after entering through the small door did Kong Xunwen realize how vast the venue inside was, so large that he couldn’t see the end. Distant, continuous mountains were also encompassed within the area.

Someone followed them from behind, their presence extremely subtle.

Kong Xunwen stayed by Qiu Zhijie’s side, still unaware of what he was going to do.

It wasn’t until they boarded a cable car that he looked at the mountain scenery outside the window. Countless guesses flashed through his mind. Was he going to propose on the mountaintop? Was the scenery here beautiful?

It seemed a bit ordinary, but he was still happy. Ordinary was fine, too.

Qiu Zhijie sat beside him, his posture straight. He had dismissed the person who was following them, and now it was just the two of them.

The cable car was still ascending. Kong Xunwen stopped looking at the scenery below and looked at the person beside him. He looked no different from usual, only pausing slightly when he realized he was being stared at before turning his head.

“…What is it?” Qiu Zhijie asked, his dark eyes showing concern.

Kong Xunwen’s gaze slowly moved down, noticing Qiu Zhijie’s hands resting on his lap, clenched into fists. Then he slowly shook his head, turning back to look outside, as if admiring the view.

Qiu Zhijie didn’t press the issue, only moving closer to the young man, though he didn’t wrap an arm around him as he usually would.

Kong Xunwen stared at the reflection of the upright man behind him in the clean glass, a smile secretly curving his lips.

Qiu Zhijie wasn’t afraid of heights, he knew that.
