Chapter Index

Someone is digging up dirt on your boyfriend!!!

    “Mhm…”

    “Do you still remember Shengyun?”

Of course Kong Xunwen remembered. He still clearly recalled the time when he was a child and called her Shiniang, only to be seriously corrected to use her actual name: Hu Shengyun.

Hearing the low voice on the other end.

“Do you want to hear my perspective?” In fact, Yun Yueluan didn’t wait for Kong Xunwen’s answer and started immediately. “After I learned about Shengyun’s situation, I was devastated. But when I saw her, a patient, still coming to comfort me that day, I understood.”

“Since the outcome was already set, I didn’t want her remaining time to be consumed by this matter. Every day, I had to make her happy. We had to forget about it and continue living each day well.”

“Every day, every minute, every second, must be cherished.”

Yun Yueluan lowered his gaze and smiled with a hint of emotion. “I was afraid even when I slept, afraid that I was wasting time, and afraid… that she would leave me at that moment.”

“The circumstances are different, there’s no need for comparison, but if Shengyun had told me she wanted to separate back then.” He paused, and only spoke again a few seconds later, “I couldn’t have accepted it.”

“You are questioning his feelings for you,” Yun Yueluan said flatly.

Kong Xunwen listened intently, his gaze fixed on the clean plate in front of him, which still held remnants of the breakfast he had finished earlier.

His teacher finished speaking. He lowered his eyes to his fingers, moved them slightly, then looked around the house. He hadn’t been here for many days, and there were few traces of him.

“But we haven’t been together for long. Cutting losses in time is the best choice.”

Yun Yueluan leaned against the wall beside him. “Cutting losses in time? For you or for him?”

    Kong Xunwen fell silent.

“For him,” Yun Yueluan closed his eyes, thinking of the fastest way to get to that city. “If he loves you, he won’t want this so-called best choice; if he doesn’t love you that much, he will agree to your decision; if he doesn’t love you at all, this won’t affect him.”

“But I don’t want you to consider so much. I just want to know what you want, and what will make you happy.”

These words echoed in Kong Xunwen’s mind. He leaned back against the chair, looking up at the bright white ceiling, and murmured, “I don’t know…”

    He repeated, “I don’t know.”

“Do you want to break up with him?” Yun Yueluan asked gently.

    “…Mhm.”

“Will breaking up with him make you happy?”

    “…I don’t know.”

“Then if you saw him with someone else, could you accept it?”

“…” Kong Xunwen froze. The other side remained quiet, waiting for his answer, so he said, “I can…”

“He will hold that person’s hand, do things with that person that only the two of you used to do, he will treat that person specially, they will become lovers… This means you can accept all that, right?”

The young man’s lips tightened, his light-colored pupils trembling slightly.

Kong Xunwen choked up. He couldn’t imagine any of those things; just hearing them felt unbearable, yet he still refused to admit it.

He even spoke rashly: “I won’t see those things.”

Yun Yueluan heard his underlying meaning and frowned heavily. This unfortunate child, what nonsense was he spouting every day?

“Your luck is very good,” he said sternly. “Kong Xunwen, speak properly!”

    Kong Xunwen fell silent.

“I will come over again. Think carefully about what I said, and tell me once you’ve made your choice.”

“Mhm, I understand.” The call didn’t hang up. For the first time, Kong Xunwen sat up straight, lowered his eyes, and bit his lip. “I’m sorry, Teacher.”

“You are my only student,” Yun Yueluan said.

After a few seconds of silence, the call ended. Amidst the beeping sound, his teacher sent a message: I will come as soon as possible.

Kong Xunwen stared at it, replying word by word: Mhm, I will make my choice.

In reality, before he even received a reply, Kong Xunwen was clutching his phone, unable to clearly see the screen, his vision blurred.

He didn’t know how many times he had cried recently, and the apologies…

“I’m sorry” felt too light, but he didn’t know what else he could do.

It seemed he had still managed to make a mess of his life.

The sun outside was brilliant, casting a dazzling light that rushed into every corner it could reach, quietly observing the confused young man inside the brightly lit house.

    *

Qiu Zhijie was very busy today, but someone was waiting for him at home, so he didn’t take any breaks. In the end, thanks to his efficiency, he actually finished his work ahead of schedule.

Of course, this was also because the progress of his theme show had completely stalled.

He had already decided that if time truly ran out, he would postpone it.

It all depended on whether he could finalize the theme within the next month or so—this required him to produce a portion of the design, at least the initial draft. After that, everything would have to stay within that theme.

Seeing him leave work early, Chang Ruixin, who had been a little worried, immediately relaxed and messaged her good friend Shi Ke: [CEO Qiu is definitely going home to find Wenwen, hehe]

[But we’re almost done too, only seventy-five minutes left!]

Shi Ke: [Yes, yes! Keep going!]

[Look at the guy opposite us, tsk tsk tsk, his expression is looking a bit sour again smirk]

Chang Ruixin secretly glanced over. Sure enough.

This afternoon, Wan Yongle suddenly took some materials to CEO Qiu again. Afterward, she learned that he had used the excuse of asking questions to seek out CEO Qiu. He was overjoyed that Brother Kong hadn’t come over today.

If Chang Ruixin had previously just viewed him as a joke, it was different now. CEO Qiu had a partner, and for him to do something like this was morally corrupt and wrong-headed.

But CEO Qiu didn’t pay him any attention anyway.

Thinking this, Chang Ruixin withdrew her gaze.

Wan Yongle didn’t notice the eyes on him. He was staring intently at the documents he had personally delivered to CEO Qiu’s office not long ago. After a while, he picked up his phone and looked at the screen.

That familiar number, he didn’t even need to memorize it; it was deeply ingrained in his heart.

He had struggled countless times over whether to make that call—with a shy heart.

    *

Qiu Zhijie rushed home. When he reached the door, his steps hesitated, and only after a moment did he open the door and enter.

From the doorway, he could directly see the young man sitting on the sofa in the living room, who looked up in surprise when he heard the sound.

The man frowned. Without even taking off his jacket, he thoroughly scanned the young man with his eyes.

    Those red eyes.

And wet eyelashes—he had been crying.

The young man, who hadn’t had time to hide his state, immediately raised his hand and shielded his light-colored eyes.

Qiu Zhijie was glad he had changed his shoes, allowing him to walk directly to the young man’s side. He casually placed his jacket on the edge of the sofa and knelt down in front of the young man.

His hand was still covering his eyes. Kong Xunwen could hear the footsteps approaching little by little, but he wasn’t ready, so he didn’t lower his hand.

Not forcing the young man, Qiu Zhijie raised his hand and placed it on the young man’s hand. With a slight pull, the hand was removed.

Kong Xunwen immediately turned his head away.

Qiu Zhijie reached out and touched the young man’s face and his slightly warm eyelids.

    “What’s wrong?” he asked.

Kong Xunwen didn’t know how to explain. He wasn’t sure why he was crying, or perhaps it was for everything at once.

Qiu Zhijie seemed to have misunderstood, but he didn’t ask anything, simply standing up.

Kong Xunwen subconsciously grabbed the hem of his jacket, looked up, and parted his lips.

Although he didn’t say anything, Qiu Zhijie’s expression softened for a moment. He looked down at him, raised a hand, and stroked the young man’s dark hair. “I’ll get you a hot towel to soothe your eyes.”

Kong Xunwen let go, his ear tips slightly red. He nodded without speaking.

On the sofa, the young man tilted his head slightly. His vision was dark, the slightly warm towel soothing his swollen eyes. In his ears, he heard the sounds of the man busy in the kitchen.

The sizzling sound of stir-frying, the running water from the faucet…

Comforting sounds that also brought drowsiness.

Qiu Zhijie brought the dishes out and placed them on the dining table, glancing toward where the young man was. Even breathing, a relaxed body, and a crooked towel revealing closed eyes.

    He had fallen asleep.

Qiu Zhijie quietly approached, watched him for a while, touched his forehead, removed the towel, and cupped his cheeks to wake him up.

Kong Xunwen groggily opened his eyes. After the man confirmed he was awake, he poured him a glass of water, letting him clear his head.

The rest of the food was placed on the table. The portions were not excessive for two people.

Kong Xunwen joined him at the table.

The two quietly finished dinner, almost accustomed to this silence.

After eating, Kong Xunwen helped Qiu Zhijie clean up the dishes. Unsure how to face him, he retreated into the room.

Qiu Zhijie didn’t follow because he had received an urgent message. Leaving work early had this drawback.

He didn’t go into the study either, sitting directly in the living room. He opened his laptop to handle the temporary work.

Kong Xunwen was in the room. He hadn’t closed the door, so if he listened carefully, he could hear the sounds from the living room, including the sound of Qiu Zhijie typing and the conversation he was having with the person on the other end, using the speakerphone for convenience.

He looked at the window where the curtains were drawn back. The sun hadn’t fully set outside yet. He hadn’t had time to think about it earlier, but now he realized Qiu Zhijie had returned so early today.

But then again, summer had arrived, and the daytime had become much longer.

Kong Xunwen didn’t like this feeling of wasting time.

He got up and left the empty room, going to his live streaming area. The man in the living room was paying attention to him while working and glanced over.

The light outside was still bright, so Kong Xunwen only turned on a small lamp before starting his stream.

Xiaoxiao received the notification instantly and clicked into the stream with a snap. She immediately saw the young man, who looked a little tired but was still smiling.

[Wenwen, are you tired? Why are you streaming again?]

She immediately suppressed her worry and sent a comment.

[Yeah, didn’t you stream from morning until just now? That’s a long time! You should rest if you’re tired.]

    [Wenwen, did something happen?]

[Yeah, yeah, if something’s wrong, you can tell us.]

Looking at the screen full of concern, Kong Xunwen’s heavy mood lifted considerably. The messy thoughts he’d been having temporarily receded, and he felt as if many people were chattering around him.

    It was lively.

The young man’s light eyes brightened. “No, it’s fine. I’m just chatting with everyone.”

Everyone chatted together. Although the number of viewers was lower since he wasn’t drawing, the atmosphere was good. Kong Xunwen gradually relaxed, leaning back in his chair and smiling happily.

[!!! Wenwen, look quickly, someone is digging up dirt on your boyfriend!!!]

This sentence flashed across the screen at a screen-filling frequency, extremely conspicuous. Not only Kong Xunwen but also the fans in the stream saw it clearly.

Kong Xunwen couldn’t help but frown, feeling a surge of nervousness. Could it be that someone had dug up information on Qiu Zhijie?

For a moment, he didn’t know if this was a good thing or a bad thing, especially happening right now.

The earlier feeling of ease vanished completely.
