Chapter Index

It’s probably best not to shower right after eating.

Wan Yongle went downstairs to hail a cab home, his heart feeling sweet as he thought about what had just happened. CEO Qiu’s intention must have been that he didn’t want him to overwork himself, right? He knew CEO Qiu definitely had feelings for him.

And CEO Qiu looked so handsome when discussing his problems, so incredibly serious.

Thinking this, Wan Yongle opened his phone and stared at the number he had saved. He had looked at this number countless times, knowing it by heart, but he had hesitated to dial it.

It was too late tonight. Later, he would call later.

When the outer offices were completely empty, Kong Xunwen cautiously peeked out, afraid of being seen. His current state truly wasn’t suitable for public viewing.

The man behind him, his jacket draped over his arm, couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

The young man’s current appearance was simply too adorable.

He had been complaining the moment he got out of bed; his clothes were rumpled, his hair was messy, and when he reached the bathroom mirror, he didn’t hesitate to hammer Qiu Zhijie’s chest several times, making muffled thuds.

Not only did his face bear sleep marks, but even more noticeable were the red marks on his chin left by Qiu Zhijie when he initially lost control. They were extremely obvious, as was the swelling on his lips, which hadn’t subsided much even after sleeping.

Hearing the laugh, Kong Xunwen opened the door, turned back to glare at the man without hesitation, and strode quickly toward the exit.

Qiu Zhijie closed the office lights behind him, and the two of them entered the elevator together.

They maintained a somewhat awkward distance between them. Kong Xunwen recalled the scene in the elevator not long ago, squeezed his fingertips, and then, as if unintentionally, shifted his steps closer to Qiu Zhijie.

When the person beside him noticed and looked over with a smile, Kong Xunwen quickly averted his gaze.

This time, they were using Qiu Zhijie’s private elevator. Thinking of this, Kong Xunwen wanted to hit him again. He clearly had a private elevator, yet he had insisted on taking the public one with him earlier.

He didn’t need to think twice; Qiu Zhijie must have done it on purpose.

They walked in silence all the way to the underground parking lot. Kong Xunwen was unwilling to appear overly intimate in this kind of space, and Qiu Zhijie only reluctantly let go of his hand after being told off once.

Kong Xunwen saw his reaction and felt speechless. The man was actually sulking! Did he understand what a public setting was?

He wouldn’t be happy if they ended up in a gossip chat group someday.

Therefore, when he saw the man get into the driver’s seat, Kong Xunwen narrowed his eyes and climbed into the back seat, meeting the gaze of the man who had deliberately turned his head to look at him.

He blinked innocently. “What’s wrong? Let’s go home.”

Qiu Zhijie paused for only a moment, then decisively got out of the car.

Kong Xunwen watched helplessly as Qiu Zhijie opened the back door and climbed in. The large man immediately filled up much of the rear space, making it feel somewhat cramped.

…Fine, he forgot the car could drive itself.

Qiu Zhijie instantly cheered up once he was inside. There was no way he could hold the young man in his arms if he sat in the front.

He awkwardly turned sideways, embraced Kong Xunwen, and buried his head in the crook of his neck. Taking a deep breath, inhaling the familiar, warm, and comforting scent, he finally relaxed completely.

Kong Xunwen looked down and saw only a dark head, like a black sphere. The frustration over his failed maneuver instantly vanished.

Alright, for his sake, since he had been busy all day.

    But…

He poked the man’s solid back. “You haven’t set the destination yet.”

Qiu Zhijie lifted his head. His sharp eyes, which had just relaxed, immediately furrowed again. He unhappily pulled out his phone, tapped a few times to set the destination, and the car began to move.

    Brainless and Unhappy.

The thought suddenly popped into Kong Xunwen’s mind. He dismissively shook his head, speechless. He certainly wasn’t brainless; rather, the man in front of him seemed to embody both traits perfectly.

However, when the man lifted his head at that moment, Kong Xunwen finally saw his face clearly. Exhaustion seemed to have seeped into his bones. Although his eyes still held their sharp intensity, the weariness was undeniable.

His heart immediately softened. He proactively raised his hand and pressed the man’s head onto his shoulder, wrapping one arm around the much taller man and patting his shoulder gently.

“There, you should rest for a bit.”

Qiu Zhijie was slightly stunned, then narrowed his eyes, deliberately nudging his head closer to the young man, finally closing his eyes in satisfaction.

It was rush hour. Although the sky had darkened, for many people, the day was just beginning. Outside the car window, the noise and bustle were a sight Kong Xunwen had grown somewhat unfamiliar with.

Along the way, neon lights from outside the window swept through the car. Kong Xunwen withdrew his gaze and looked at the man resting his head on his shoulder. The car window filtered some of the light, but what still shone through was bothersome.

The man would unconsciously furrow his brow.

After a pause, the young man raised his hand and shielded the light from the eyes of the man on his shoulder.

The car stopped. Before Kong Xunwen could hesitate about whether to wake Qiu Zhijie, the man seemed to sense it and opened his eyes. The brief rest had restored some of his energy.

Kong Xunwen moved his shoulder, which was aching from being pressed down. It had been uncomfortable being pinned down in the office that afternoon, and while it had improved after the nap, the cumulative pressure now made it hurt even more.

A large hand reached over, the rings that had been fully adorning his knuckles now removed, gently massaging Kong Xunwen’s shoulder.

He looked up. The man was seriously massaging his shoulder, frowning slightly in annoyance. “I shouldn’t have leaned on you just now.”

Kong Xunwen didn’t speak, enjoying the massage for a moment before lightly resting his hand on the one on his shoulder. “Alright, I’m hungry. What are we eating later?”

Qiu Zhijie squeezed a few more times before nodding. “Is there anything you feel like eating?”

Kong Xunwen shook his head, raising an eyebrow. “Are we going to discuss this while still sitting in the car?”

They exchanged glances and got out of the car together. Kong Xunwen tried to grab his things, but Qiu Zhijie took them all. He closed the trunk. “Alright, tell me now, what do you want to eat?”

Kong Xunwen followed behind him, watching his pocket bulge and jingle. A ring fell out, hitting the ground with a continued clinking sound.

He bent down to pick it up. Looking up, he saw Qiu Zhijie watching him.

“I don’t know what I want, but I’m really hungry.” Kong Xunwen caught up in a few steps, casually dropping the ring back into the bulging pocket.

“Then I’ll arrange it. Let’s eat something light.”

Hearing this, Kong Xunwen turned his head to look at him.

Qiu Zhijie reached out to press the elevator button. Sensing the gaze, he tilted his head to look back, meeting Kong Xunwen’s eyes. “What is it?”

Seeing nothing unusual, Kong Xunwen shook his head.

    Ding.

The elevator arrived. As the doors opened, they revealed a foyer. Kong Xunwen glanced around curiously, and only hurried out of the elevator when he was called.

Qiu Zhijie unlocked the door using his fingerprint.

The foyer wasn’t particularly remarkable and didn’t look like Qiu Zhijie’s usual style, so Kong Xunwen leaned in to peer through the slight gap in the open door.

He walked closer to Qiu Zhijie.

However, the person blocking the doorway didn’t step inside to make room for him.

Kong Xunwen was confused, but his empty hand was taken and guided to the lock. With a beep, his fingerprint was recorded.

He blinked. The person who had been blocking the door was now inside with the bags. Kong Xunwen looked at the lock, followed him in, and closed the door behind him.

A pair of slippers was timely placed in front of him. As Kong Xunwen put them on, he finally took in the space that was Qiu Zhijie’s home.

Various artworks hung on the walls. The furnishings in the living room, dining room, and even the kitchen were exquisite. On one side of the dining room was a bar counter with a wine cabinet against the wall, filled with various drinks. Next to the bar were bartending tools.

There were even ambient lights specifically for the bar area.

Next to the living room sofa, a small table held a record player, with a stack of records piled neatly beside it. On the coffee table in front of the sofa were a red wine glass and a book.

A large screen was set up in the living room, flanked by a few trendy collectible figurines Kong Xunwen had heard of. The bookshelf was filled with fashion magazines, and the flowers in the vase were slightly wilted.

Furthermore, every surface seemed to hold small accessories—rings, necklaces, earrings, and watches—which didn’t look carelessly discarded but rather placed as decorative objects.

Stepping into the apartment truly felt like entering Qiu Zhijie’s domain. Everything, including the scent lingering in the air, emphasized this point, completely enveloping Kong Xunwen.

He stood at the entrance, surveying the space, then looked down at the pair of white fluffy slippers on his feet.

“What are you doing standing there?”

Kong Xunwen looked over and saw Qiu Zhijie, sleeves rolled up, one hand on his hip, tilting his head to look at him. A thin silver chain hung loosely around his wrist.

He raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t it a bit much to make me, someone who just got off work, fully responsible for unpacking the luggage?”

Kong Xunwen thought about it. “I suppose it is.”

He frowned at the man. “But I believe you can handle it. After all, I spent the whole day traveling today. All to give a certain someone a surprise—”

It sounded like he was whining playfully.

After saying this, he lowered his head again, looking at his toes, and took a small step forward.

When he reached Qiu Zhijie’s side, he realized the man hadn’t moved. He looked up. “Aren’t you going to unpack?”

Qiu Zhijie stared for a moment at the young man, who seemed utterly unaware of how tempting he was, before curving his lips into a smile. “Yes, I am.”

After unpacking the items he himself had put away yesterday, dinner arrived.

The two of them sat down at the dining table together. Qiu Zhijie opened the takeout containers one by one. The aroma was inviting, but just as expected, every dish was light.

Kong Xunwen didn’t mind; he wasn’t a picky eater and could eat anything. As he ate, he found himself looking at Qiu Zhijie across the table.

Just a short while ago, he had looked utterly exhausted, yet now, he seemed completely refreshed.

    How did he manage that?

Qiu Zhijie tapped the table to regain the young man’s attention. “What are you thinking about? Hurry up and eat, weren’t you hungry?”

Only then did Kong Xunwen nod, pull back his thoughts, and start eating seriously.

    He really was hungry.

…Having eaten his fill, Kong Xunwen slowed his movements, only then noticing the focused gaze of the man opposite him, who had long since put down his chopsticks.

He keenly sensed something, and his movements became slower and slower.

    “You’ve finished eating, right?”

Before Kong Xunwen could answer, the light in front of him was largely blocked by the man suddenly standing up.

The items on the table were being cleared away, while Kong Xunwen still clutched his chopsticks.

Qiu Zhijie moved methodically, yet his gaze remained fixed on the young man’s face across from him, taking in the slightly trembling light-colored pupils, the rosy lips, the flushed fingertips, and the beautiful collarbone visible through the open neckline.

As Qiu Zhijie leaned closer, the young man held his breath, his entire body rigid.

Qiu Zhijie took the chopsticks, gently pulling them one by one from the young man’s tightly clenched hand, and cleared them away.

Visibly, the young man’s earlobes and neck flushed red. Qiu Zhijie remained unhurried. The rustling sound of the bags filled the dining room, accompanied by a strange sense of intimacy, reminiscent of the office that afternoon.

Suddenly, the chair scraped against the floor with a sharp, grating sound. The young man, as if finally unable to bear the current atmosphere, abruptly stood up. “I’m going to take a shower.”

He rushed past Qiu Zhijie toward the back room, but his wrist was caught, and he was pulled into an embrace.

The man’s breath sprayed against his neck. Qiu Zhijie’s high nose bridge brushed against him, his voice a whisper against his skin. “It’s probably best not to shower right after eating.”

The tickling sensation made Kong Xunwen instinctively retract his neck, his eyes darting around nervously, unsure of what he was even looking at.

    “I missed you so much…”
