Is This Love? Regarding the Ambiguous Relationship

Qiu Zhijie arrived at the company very early today. Only a few final matters needed his attention, and a morning was more than enough time. He had booked an afternoon flight to go back and see Kong Xunwen, and he was in a great mood.

During a break, he habitually checked his phone. Inside were screenshots taken from the video clip this morning. He looked at them again and again, his eyes filled with a deep smile.

He hadn’t brought anyone with him this time, just himself. He didn’t need to bring anything special, only a paper bag containing the gift he had prepared for Kong Xunwen.

Wan Yongle used the excuse of delivering something to walk past Qiu Zhijie’s office, brushing shoulders with Qiu Zhijie who was opening the door to leave.

Qiu Zhijie wore sunglasses, revealing only the attractive lower half of his face, the curve of his lips slightly relaxed.

“CEO Qiu, good day,” Wan Yongle quickly greeted him.

Still in a good mood, Qiu Zhijie glanced at the person. He didn’t have much of an impression of him, so he just nodded. “Mm.”

Then he headed straight for the elevator.

Wan Yongle remained rooted in place, his gaze following the man’s retreating figure until it disappeared before he retracted his eyes. While secretly delighted, he recalled the tone of voice he had just heard—it was much softer than usual.

So, did that mean CEO Qiu actually had some favorable feelings toward him?

Chang Ruixin, who happened to see the entire exchange from further away, immediately noticed the expression on Wan Yongle’s face, which held a hint of determination. Connecting it with the scene she had just witnessed, she sighed inwardly.

Every time Wan Yongle encountered CEO Qiu, he became strange. Although he usually had some minor flaws, they were nothing compared to how he acted around CEO Qiu.

He was a grown man, so why was he always immersed in idol drama fantasies? She had known since she was very young that things in idol dramas were deceptive and unreliable.

Forget it, she couldn’t manage that much. Anyway, once CEO Qiu had a partner, Wan Yongle should sober up.

Kong Xunwen introduced Teacher Yun to the teacher and the children. Everyone sat together on the living room sofa.

The children were a little nervous around strangers. They huddled close to each other and to Kong Xunwen, sizing up Teacher Yun.

Yun Yueluan had deep lines between his brows, and his hair was medium length, often braided on the side. His eyes were sharp, and his lips were habitually pressed together. His earlobes were thick, and when he wasn’t expressing anything, he always appeared overly serious.

But seeing his satisfactory student—a student who used to be somewhat solitary now getting along well with these lively children—a smile naturally appeared on his face. When he smiled, his eyes narrowed slightly, revealing his naturally amiable appearance.

“Hello, everyone,” he greeted simply. The children maintained basic politeness and introduced themselves.

Noticing the children’s discomfort, Kong Xunwen spoke up, “It’s getting late now. Do you want to head home?”

The children were indeed a bit uneasy. Hearing this, they immediately said goodbye one by one and left.

“These kids are quite sensible, and you seem to have a good relationship with them,” Yun Yueluan said with a smile, watching Kong Xunwen return after seeing the children off at the door.

He wasn’t someone who particularly liked children; in his eyes, Kong Xunwen was the child. So, after a few words, he shifted his attention back to Kong Xunwen.

He assessed the young man in front of him, who was pouring him water and helping him with his things. He said with satisfaction, “You look much better since you came back. You’re just still too thin.”

The teacher’s arrival was sudden, but Kong Xunwen was very happy. His lips curved slightly as he handed over the water cup and sat down beside his teacher. “Not at all, I’ve gained weight since I came back.”

Yun Yueluan didn’t argue with him. “In any case, eat more later, and keep your routine healthy. You should also find some time to slowly start exercising. The most important thing is to be healthy.”

Kong Xunwen was just thinking that he really should start exercising when he heard the last sentence, and he couldn’t help but lower his gaze, concealing the unnaturalness in his eyes.

He hadn’t told his teacher about his Genetic Disease, and he didn’t plan to.

“Yes, so Teacher, you must also stay healthy,” he said seriously, looking up.

Yun Yueluan had been mentoring Kong Xunwen since he was young, so he naturally noticed the change in the young man’s expression. However, he only thought it was because Kong Xunwen was thinking of his parents, and he secretly regretted bringing it up.

He had put his foot in his mouth.

Hearing the young man’s words, his heart immediately softened, but he wasn’t used to dealing with such sentiment. He raised a hand to touch the side of his face, then remembered he had brought a gift. He quickly put down the untouched water cup and stood up. “Oh, right, I brought you something.”

Kong Xunwen quietly breathed a sigh of relief, standing up to follow. Then he heard his teacher casually ask a question ahead of him.

“By the way, did you start that live streaming you mentioned before?”

His breath hitched again. Kong Xunwen carefully replied, “I’m slowly working on it.”

“Is that so?” Yun Yueluan immediately became interested. He returned, holding the item wrapped in a black plastic bag, and casually shoved it into Kong Xunwen’s hands. “Want me to take a look?”

Kong Xunwen held the plastic bag, about to speak, but Yun Yueluan had already shifted his attention. “Oh, right, let’s look at the gift I brought you first. See if you like it.”

The teacher was still the same.

Kong Xunwen thought with a touch of helplessness. He was already used to his teacher’s fluctuating emotions, and this familiarity suddenly brought him a sense of calm.

Yun Yueluan urged him from the side, but Kong Xunwen wasn’t in a hurry. He advised his teacher not to rush either, and meticulously untied the plastic bag.

Inside the plastic bag were three more plastic bags.

Yun Yueluan suddenly looked a little embarrassed. “Those were the only bags available at the time.”

“Then it’s just right,” Kong Xunwen said, unaffected. He opened one of them and pulled out the contents: a stack of postcards.

He flipped through them carefully, one by one. The front featured beautiful landscape photos, and the back held Watercolor paintings. Next to the paintings was the teacher’s signature, and below that were two or three lines of text, mostly expressing his feelings at the time, along with blessings for Kong Xunwen.

Among the landscape photos were a few pictures of several people, all of which included Yun Yueluan, regardless of the group size.

Yun Yueluan explained from the side. Seeing the photos, he took the opportunity to introduce his newly met friends to Kong Xunwen. “This is a local older brother. He’s incredibly skilled on the mountain. He just zooms up those steep places. Thanks to him, I got to visit many rare locations.”

“And this one, I met him on the road. He’s a photographer. He taught me how to take these pictures…”

Listening to his teacher’s narration, Kong Xunwen felt as if he could see the vivid scenes. He gradually relaxed, sitting down on the sofa with his teacher, smiling softly.

Finally, the gifts and the children’s belongings were put away together. Yun Yueluan was curious, and after Kong Xunwen explained, he laughed heartily. “I knew our Little Kong is always popular.”

Yun Yueluan ate the lunch his student prepared today. While Kong Xunwen was cooking, he watched with great curiosity, and when he tasted the food, he praised it highly. “This flavor! It seems Little Kong has a talent in this area too.”

Kong Xunwen smiled, but thought, how could his cooking be considered talented? If anyone was amazing, it was Qiu Zhijie.

Ah, he thought of him again.

Wait, the person who always called didn’t even call during lunch today?

He subconsciously looked at his phone again.

Noticing this, Yun Yueluan smiled teasingly. “How many times have you looked at your phone this morning? Are you dating someone?”

Kong Xunwen was momentarily stunned. Had he been paying attention to this all morning? Thinking about it, it seemed he had.

“Not yet,” he shook his head. He wasn’t sure what the situation between him and Qiu Zhijie even was.

“Then it’s close. Show them to me sometime if you get the chance.” Yun Yueluan sighed at this point. “Little Kong has grown up so much now. It’s time for him to date.”

“Oh dear, I guess I’m getting old now, full of that uncle vibe,” Yun Yueluan said, laughing at himself.

Seeing that Kong Xunwen hadn’t spoken for a while, he looked at his student. “What’s wrong? If you have any worries, tell your teacher. After all, I’ve lived for many years.”

Kong Xunwen pursed his lips, then finally spoke. “I have something I don’t know what to do about right now, but the situation is too complicated to explain.”

    “Regarding that ambiguous relationship partner?”

    He nodded.

Kong Xunwen fiddled with his fingers. “I don’t know…”

“Whether you should be with him?”

He hesitated for a few seconds, then nodded again.

Yun Yueluan’s tone was gentle. “I don’t know what factors you are considering, but I believe I can trust your judgment. If it involves a matter of principle, you wouldn’t hesitate. If it’s something else, perhaps you don’t need to overthink it.”

“Any concerns you have, whether they stem from you or him, are matters between the two of you. Mutual communication and resolution are naturally the best way forward.”

He raised a hand and pressed Kong Xunwen’s shoulder, then reverted to his slightly irreverent manner. “But I hope you’ll be a little selfish. Just focus on your own happiness. If you’re not happy being together, then go find someone who can make you happy.”

“If being with him makes you happy, then don’t hesitate.”

Kong Xunwen smiled helplessly, but under his teacher’s earnest gaze, he nodded.

He couldn’t achieve what his teacher suggested right now. He had been thinking too much lately.

His teacher was right; he could even apply it to himself. He was someone who could die at any moment, so he didn’t need to worry so much.

    But Qiu Zhijie…

He would think about it properly later.

After eating, Yun Yueluan remembered the live streaming Kong Xunwen had mentioned earlier. Kong Xunwen had no choice but to take him to see his live streaming room.

He was planning to go tidy up the place where Yun Yueluan would stay for the night, but Yun Yueluan waved his hand. “It’s fine. I just came to see you. Since you’re doing well, I’m relieved.”

He paused. “I have to visit my mother-in-law’s house today.”

The teacher and Shiniang were childhood sweethearts, dated for ten years, and then married. However, Shiniang was suddenly diagnosed with cancer in the third year of their marriage. She held on for a year before passing away. Shiniang came from a single-parent family, and her mother remarried after Shiniang got married. After Shiniang’s passing, the teacher always made time to visit her.

Kong Xunwen met his teacher during the early days of the teacher and Shiniang’s marriage. He was old enough to remember when Shiniang was diagnosed with cancer and when she passed away. To this day, he still vividly remembers how haggard his teacher looked during that period.

Hearing this, he nodded silently, watching his teacher without daring to say too much.

Yun Yueluan understood Kong Xunwen’s expression. Whenever he thought of his wife, the young man always wanted to comfort him but felt helpless, just watching him.

He reached out and rubbed the young man’s head. “Alright, alright, I’ll come see you next time.”

    “Be happy.”

Kong Xunwen nodded, watching his teacher leave in the soft evening sunset. He stood there in a daze for a while after his teacher’s figure disappeared from sight.

He picked up his phone and checked it. Still no messages. However, the sound of a car driving reached him. He looked up, and there was that familiar car, and the familiar face in the driver’s seat, getting closer and clearer.

“Were you waiting for me specifically?” the man’s voice lifted slightly.
