Chapter 5 His Reputation is Ruined.

Xing Zhan saw through Father Xing’s intentions instantly, feeling extreme disgust. However, he was still bound by the fact that Old Master Xing could not handle any shocks, so he couldn’t just throw the man out directly.

He said stiffly, “Love at first sight.”

Father Xing felt uneasy under Xing Zhan’s gaze, but seeing Xing Zhan’s restraint, his smugness overcame his fear. He said, “I wasn’t asking you.”

Xing Zhan was about to use the excuse that Father Xing hadn’t even helped with the wedding preparations to suppress him. Unfortunately, doing so would immediately ruin the pleasant atmosphere of the wedding.

Just as he was about to speak, his sleeve was tugged.

    He lowered his eyes.

The imposter’s fair, delicate face tilted up, reminding him with a hint of petulance, “Dad was asking me.”

An Yu hadn’t originally planned to speak. As a substitute, the more he did, the more mistakes he would make. But Xing Zhan was willing to sacrifice his lifelong happiness for Old Master Xing, which was quite admirable.

Furthermore, this confrontation with Father Xing hadn’t happened in the original novel.

An Yu worried that this variable was related to him, and if Old Master Xing suffered any consequences because of it, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself.

Without waiting for Xing Zhan to say anything, An Yu addressed Father Xing, “I don’t want to say.”

    Father Xing: “…Why?”

An Yu lowered his eyes, looking honest. “Brother Xing was very hard to pursue. If I tell you, and someone learns my methods and tries to steal him from me, what then?”

    Father Xing: “…”

As an elder, asking once was curiosity. Pressing the issue, especially with his new daughter-in-law, was extremely undignified.

Someone among the guests let out a laugh, quickly followed by a chorus of laughter.

Many people knew the true nature of this wedding and initially felt sorry for Xing Zhan. They hadn’t expected that the partner he hastily found was not only extremely good-looking but also very clever—practically flawless.

Madam Xing, who had been holding her breath, couldn’t help but smile.

Xing Zhan thought, *He certainly can spin a tale,* but his expression softened.

He put an arm around An Yu’s shoulder. “If you don’t want to say, then don’t.”

They still had to toast the guests after the ceremony, but the Old Master couldn’t endure it and needed to leave first. Xing Zhan told An Yu, “I’m worried. Could you go accompany Grandpa?”

These words were meant for the guests.

Until An Yu’s identity was confirmed, he wouldn’t allow the other party to interact with his social circle.

    An Yu nodded.

    Accompanying Grandpa, indeed.

In the original novel, the Original Host was also sent away using this excuse by Xing Zhan and subsequently locked up.

It was fine; he was tired and needed a rest anyway.

Last night, Father An and Mother An, guilty and anxious, had lectured him endlessly, severely cutting into his sleep time.

An Yu was taken to a property under Xing Zhan’s name.

It was a large, flat apartment overlooking the river, with an extremely expansive view.

An Yu lay on the sofa, basking in the sunlight. The only drawback was the emptiness in his arms.

He missed Fatty. He wondered what the little cub was doing right now.

The Little Orange Cat was currently kicking An Shi, who was trying to hold him, and quickly retreated under the coffee table.

An Shi tried to lure it out with a chicken leg, but it was useless.

He kicked the coffee table. “You ungrateful wretch!”

Before trying to hug the cat, An Shi had smashed his phone.

Someone had sent him photos of the wedding, asking what was going on and why the groom was An Yu.

An Shi couldn’t help but examine the photos closely.

It was a grand wedding. An Yu on the stage looked like a little prince, and Xing Zhan beside him was as handsome as a god. The two of them actually looked very well-matched.

An Shi tried to video call Zhao Xiuyuan, but Zhao Xiuyuan didn’t answer again.

He wanted to grab the Little Orange Cat and take a photo to send to Zhao Xiuyuan, but the wretched cat was uncooperative.

An Shi, face dark, told the servant to fetch a stick, intending to poke the cat out from under the coffee table and grab it.

Before the stick arrived, the servant announced that Xing Zhan had come.

An Shi quickly straightened his clothes and grabbed the chicken leg he had placed on the coffee table for the Little Orange Cat for a staged photo.

When Xing Zhan entered the living room, he saw An Shi kneeling by the coffee table, trying to coax the cat with a chicken leg.

Perhaps startled by the number of people, the kitten slipped away from the other side and quickly darted out the door.

Xing Zhan noticed the notch in the cat’s ear and realized this must be the cat his mother mentioned An Shi had rescued.

Before arriving, Xing Zhan had already spoken with Father An and Mother An.

Father An claimed he had just learned that An Yu had forced An Shi to give up the marriage by threatening suicide.

The day An Shi took sleeping pills, the family had called an ambulance.

Father An took inspiration from this, deciding to pin the crime of forcing the marriage onto An Yu by threatening suicide. He thought this way, the Xing Family would be less inclined to blame the An Family.

Xing Zhan hadn’t expected An Yu, who looked harmless, to be so manipulative.

However, he still needed to meet the person involved and clarify the situation face-to-face.

Thinking of the small cat with the notched ear, Xing Zhan asked An Shi gently, “Why didn’t you attend the wedding today?”

An Shi hadn’t expected Xing Zhan to be even better looking in person than in photos, and so polite.

Feeling a pang of jealousy, he recounted how An Yu had threatened suicide to steal the marriage, saying with a mix of disappointment and magnanimity, “I don’t blame him anymore. I hope you two will be happy.”

The words were the pre-arranged lies, but the disappointment was genuine.

Xing Zhan possessed a noble aura that commanded respect, completely unlike the fierce and intimidating image An Shi had imagined.

Father An saw An Shi’s regret and noticed that Xing Zhan seemed to treat An Shi differently. His heart stirred, and he said to Xing Zhan, “An Yu is used to acting recklessly, but marriage is a serious matter. How can it be so hasty? It just so happens that you and An Yu haven’t registered your marriage yet…”

Mother An quickly chimed in, “That’s right, there’s still time!”

An Shi’s heart pounded. Somehow, he couldn’t bring himself to utter a refusal.

    Xing Zhan said, “No.”

The wedding had already taken place. An Yu was registered with Grandpa, and Grandpa was very satisfied with him.

Father An couldn’t help but raise his voice. “Why not?”

Xing Zhan’s eyes turned cold. “The Xing Family is not a restaurant, allowing you to change your order whenever you please.”

Though young, his authority was immense.

Father An dared not say anything more. Mother An looked utterly disappointed, and An Shi’s eyes were red with shame.

Xing Zhan glanced at An Shi but said nothing.

He wasn’t an overly emotional person, and he wasn’t familiar with An Shi. Giving up the marriage was An Shi’s own choice, and he should bear the consequences.

Xing Zhan told Father An, “Do not spread the news about An Yu threatening suicide. If anyone asks, say that he and I fell in love at first sight, and since An Shi was also uninterested in me, we simply swapped people.”

Though he despised An Yu’s actions, An Yu was now Grandpa’s grandson-in-law, and he had a responsibility to ensure An Yu’s image wasn’t completely ruined.

An Shi was surprised that Xing Zhan was covering for An Yu and felt wronged.

Father An said awkwardly, “That might not be possible.”

He couldn’t stand how conspicuous An Yu had been at the wedding. As soon as the ceremony ended, he had eagerly told the An Family relatives about An Yu threatening suicide to steal the marriage, intentionally letting nearby guests overhear.

Now, An Yu’s reputation must be completely ruined.

Xing Zhan frowned, thinking that it seemed he would have to strictly block the news from reaching Grandpa.

Father An respectfully saw Xing Zhan off. When he returned, he found An Shi complaining that Xing Zhan lacked manners, and he angrily scolded An Shi for being nonsensical.

An Shi felt wronged and ashamed, running upstairs in tears.

The servants, secretly watching the drama, quietly curled their lips.

The other members of the An Family were difficult to serve, and the servants often took out their frustrations on An Yu.

Now that they thought about it, An Yu was actually quite nice.

Besides, it was clearly An Shi who had threatened suicide.

Not only did An Shi force a substitute marriage, but now he was twisting the facts. How shameless.

Fortunately, CEO Xing didn’t back down.

It was a pity they had all signed non-disclosure agreements; the compensation for a slip-up was astronomical.

Xing Zhan was unaware of the servants’ thoughts.

In the smoothly driving car, he asked his assistant, Wu Yuan, “What is he doing?”

    Wu Yuan: “…Taking a nap.”

The apartment where An Yu was staying had surveillance, and Wu Yuan had also arranged for lunch to be delivered.

He had been monitoring constantly, watching the person eat a substantial lunch, including post-meal fruit, and then go to sleep.

Just now, Wu Yuan checked the monitor; the person hadn’t woken up, only turned over.

Xing Zhan narrowed his eyes. So carefree? Did he think he was safe and sound from now on?

He commanded coldly, “Go to his place.”
