Knocked Out

The gazes of those around him hit Lin Jinyao like searchlights—some curious, some playful, but most were scrutinizing.

Lin Jinyao could feel the eyes sweeping over him, more like they were evaluating an expensive piece of merchandise. They were judging his value beyond his looks, wondering what he had done to earn Mu Huacheng’s favor.

“This must be Mr. Lin? I’ve heard a lot about you.” Fan Yu smiled, breaking the silence first as he raised his glass in a gesture of greeting.

Without exception, he also scanned Lin Jinyao from head to toe. “I’m Fan Yu, a friend of Lord Hua.”

One had to know that in Xijing, not just anyone could call him Lord Hua. By saying this, Fan Yu was signaling that he held a significant status in Mu Huacheng’s circle.

Lin Jinyao discreetly sized up the heir of Ruilai Group, then gave a polite nod without saying a word.

“A-Yao doesn’t talk much,” Mu Huacheng explained for him, his fingers still toyed with Lin’s cufflinks. “He already gave me a lot of face just by showing up today.”

Lin Jinyao frowned upon hearing this. What was this man planning now?

Because the words were so ambiguous, the people around them—all shrewd individuals—understood the implication. They remained polite, and no one dared to speak out of turn in front of Lin Jinyao.

Fan Yu chuckled twice. “Yes, yes, yes. Your darling is even harder to invite than you are.”

As Fan Yu finished speaking, he happened to meet Lin Jinyao’s scrutinizing gaze.

This single look was startling. Fan Yu’s smile instantly vanished because he couldn’t understand why Mu Huacheng’s precious treasure was looking at him with an expression that seemed… affectionate?

    Had he said something wrong?

Just then, the Mayor of Xijing, Lin Shouye, approached them with a female companion.

Lin Shouye first nodded respectfully to Mu Huacheng, then sat down nearby with his companion. He studied Lin Jinyao’s stern yet exquisite face and smiled. “Little Mr. Lin, I organized this gathering today. If there’s anything you want to play, just say the word. After all, if we look back carefully, we might have been family a hundred years ago.”

Lin Shouye’s official rhetoric was very pleasant to the ear, perfectly suiting Mu Huacheng’s mood. Furthermore, for a man to quietly reach the position of Mayor of Xijing, it was clear his emotional and intellectual intelligence were top-tier.

Lin Jinyao bowed his head slightly in respect. “Mayor Lin is too kind.”

“Big Lin and Little Lin, it really is fate,” Fan Yu remarked.

“Maybe they really are family? Mayor Lin should look after Comrade Little Lin in the future.” Zhang Shuo, standing behind Fan Yu, was also very observant.

    “That goes without saying.”

Lin Jinyao remained low-key and submissive, leaning beside Mu Huacheng as obediently as an exquisite doll.

However, beneath the cold eyes of that exquisite doll, he was quietly observing the so-called business elites, government officials, and popular stars standing before him.

These were figures rarely seen in daily life, and yet these big shots all wore smiles, uttering flattering words to please him. Their ultimate goal, however, was only to make Mu Huacheng happy.

He didn’t have any profound feelings about it; he just felt that the waters of Xijing were deep enough to drown him.

His only saving grace was that he was all alone in the world.

Mu Huacheng’s purpose for this trip was to let Lin Jinyao show his face in the circle, and the final result was clearly quite good.

“Go play a few rounds.” Having achieved his goal, Mu Huacheng naturally wanted his darling to have some fun.

Lin Jinyao had been with him for a year, mostly staying at the mid-mountain villa on Xiling Island to accompany him and do what a bed partner should do. He was quiet, never made a fuss, and was incredibly obedient.

Of course, he would occasionally come out with him for some fresh air.

Like this time, Lin Jinyao had taken the initiative to suggest coming to commemorate a friend.

Thus, a room had been temporarily prepared on the top floor of the Radiant Pearl to house his treasure.

Mu Huacheng’s attitude toward Lin Jinyao was very different from his previous bed partners, and Chen Jin was the first to notice.

Strictly speaking, he had noticed it a year ago.

After all, there were plenty of beautiful people, but there weren’t many like Lin Jinyao, who was both beautiful and habitually hid himself.

Lin Jinyao was shrouded in a layer of mist that made people want to push it aside and see what was really inside.

Play? Lin Jinyao didn’t know how.

But he knew how to hide, and he was well-practiced at it.

“I want to go to the restroom.” Lin Jinyao’s face didn’t look very good. After all, being tormented by Mu Huacheng all night and still being able to walk was already proof of his good physical condition.

Mu Huacheng immediately gave Chen Jin a look. Chen Jin understood and was about to step forward when he was intercepted halfway by Fan Yu. “Hey, let Chen Jin play. I’ll accompany your little darling. I just happened to drink a bit too much.”

Mu Huacheng leaned back and raised his eyes, glancing at Fan Yu a few times before looking at Lin Jinyao, seemingly undecided.

At this moment, Lin Jinyao seemed unable to hold it in any longer. His hand below the table gently tugged at Mu Huacheng’s sleeve with a hint of pleading, softening Mu Huacheng’s heart.

After repeatedly seeking Mu Huacheng’s consent, he finally agreed to let Lin Jinyao and Fan Yu leave together.

The reason Fan Yu volunteered was that he felt Lin Jinyao had an indescribable vibe toward him. Especially that look Lin Jinyao gave him earlier—it almost made him hard. He took this chance to come out and talk to him.

Seeing Lin Jinyao come out of the restroom, Fan Yu was in high spirits.

Lin Jinyao gave him a dark look, then turned to wash and dry his hands.

Fan Yu crossed his arms and leaned against the doorframe, speaking in a playful tone. “Mr. Lin, if you keep looking at me with such affectionate eyes, I’ll start to wonder if you’re planning to change your affections.”

“Young Master Fan must be joking. I wouldn’t dare.” The icy mask on Lin Jinyao’s face slowly melted into a slight smile. He turned and walked toward a suite further inside. Dazzled by the smile, Fan Yu followed without a second thought.

“You wouldn’t dare, and I certainly wouldn’t dare!” Even the King of Heaven wouldn’t dare provoke Mu Huacheng at a time like this. Fan Yu tilted his chin up. “So, do you have something to say to me?”

Seeing that the man had entered the room, Lin Jinyao gently closed the door. He turned around with a harmless smile on his lips. “I’d like to ask Young Master Fan for a favor!”

“Oh? Is it about Mu Huacheng?” The only connection Fan Yu could think of was Mu Huacheng. Could this person be trying to find out how many exes Mu Huacheng had?

    “It’s about you!”

This answer was somewhat unexpected for Fan Yu. “I’m all ears!”

Lin Jinyao slowly raised his hand in front of Fan Yu. “What does this look like to you?”

This question dazed Fan Yu again. Before he could react, he was knocked unconscious by a hand-chop from Lin Jinyao.

Lin Jinyao’s strength was much greater than his fragile appearance suggested. He easily hoisted the man up.

    “Sorry, Eldest Young Master Fan!”

Since Mu Huacheng was such a hard nut to crack, he had to start with Fan Yu first.

Knock, knock, knock! Just then, there was a sudden knock on the door.

Lin Jinyao’s expression changed instantly. He dropped Fan Yu on the floor, his demeanor completely different from his usual self.

He slowed his pace, hiding behind the door. He opened the door with his left hand while a fruit knife hidden in his right sleeve slid out. He gripped it in a reverse hold, staring intently at the door.

    “A-Yao, it’s me.”

    It was Zhou Xuan!

The familiar voice made Lin Jinyao breathe a sigh of relief. He opened the door, pulled the man inside, and frowned. “How did you get on the ship?”

    “I have my ways!”

Obviously, this answer didn’t satisfy Lin Jinyao. Zhou Xuan glanced at Fan Yu on the floor, then at Lin Jinyao’s deathly pale face, and sighed helplessly. “I saw you walking this way and climbed over from the rear side door. Don’t worry, I avoided the cameras. What are you trying to do?”

Seeing him dressed in a waiter’s uniform, Lin Jinyao felt a bit of bitterness in his mouth.

He knew he couldn’t stop Zhou Xuan, just as Zhou Xuan couldn’t stop him. “Xuan, I’ve never stopped you from doing anything. I hope you won’t use those so-called moral principles to stop me either.”

“I’d like to, but your personality is truly infuriating!” Zhou Xuan rolled his eyes at him, his frustration evident. “Do you realize that the more Mu Huacheng cares about you, the more there are things you simply cannot do? If you dare to provoke Mu Huacheng today, I’ll have to collect your corpse tonight! No, no, no… I might not even be able to collect a corpse. Mu Huacheng would just throw you overboard to feed the fish.”

Lin Jinyao was amused by his words, his face full of indifference. “Miyamoto Musashi said it well: who can stop a young samurai from going to his death? They simply cannot hear!”

“I can damn well hear it! Listen to me! Get rid of him! …Wait, are you doing this for Xiao Bai? Since when did you two get so close? I asked you to cooperate with my investigation, not to seek your own death!” Zhou Xuan’s large fists began to wave around again.

    “Move him up.”

“…” Zhou Xuan was speechless, but he still stepped forward obediently, picked the man up, and tossed him onto the bed. “I know I can’t stop you. I knew it the moment you hid the fact that you were with Mu Huacheng from me.”

Lin Jinyao didn’t reply. He just looked at Fan Yu on the bed and continued, “He is the young master of Ruilai International Group. He took over the family business a year ago. Xiao Bai mentioned him before.”

    Is it him?

Zhou Xuan thought of Zhou Xubai’s mysterious boyfriend.
