Go To Your Death Chapter 10
byThe Jade Pendant
The early morning sunlight filtered through the screen windows, gently spilling into the bedroom.
When Lin Jinyao opened his eyes, the space beside him was already empty, leaving only a slight indentation.
The residual warmth on the sheets indicated that Mu Huacheng had only recently left.
Lin Jinyao struggled to prop himself up, the soreness in his waist immediately reminding him of last night’s madness.
Mu Huacheng always left numerous marks on his body, tirelessly taking possession of him over and over again until he fell into an exhausted sleep.
This seemed to have become Mu Huacheng’s personal amusement.
Lin Jinyao particularly couldn’t understand why this man always seemed to be in a state of never being satisfied.
After a year, this almost pathological desire showed no signs of fading; if anything, it was becoming more intense.
Lin Jinyao gently touched the fresh bite mark on his collarbone, which still stung with a burning heat.
The man was like a dog, biting him every single time.
Shifting his gaze, he saw a glass of honey water on the nightstand, still steaming. The base of the glass pressed down on a note written in Slender Gold Script: Have a meeting, see you tonight — M.
The handwriting was excellent, but what a pity… it was written by that dog of a man!
Lin Jinyao crumpled the note into a ball, let out a cold laugh, and tossed it unceremoniously into the trash can.
But less than two minutes later, he hesitantly fished the paper ball back out.
Smoothing out the wrinkled note, he stared at those few words for a long time before finally tucking it under his pillow.
He couldn’t let such beautiful calligraphy go to waste!
In the bathroom, hot water washed over his body. Lin Jinyao closed his eyes, letting the stream beat against him.
Mu Huacheng’s words from last night echoed continuously in his mind: You must stay obediently by my side. The term is forever.
Forever?
How long was forever! Once he was dead, there would be no such thing as forever. His original plan never involved staying by Mu Huacheng’s side for long; once he finished his own business, he intended to escape immediately!
Lin Jinyao gave a cold sneer and turned off the faucet. He dried himself and changed into a simple white shirt and black casual trousers.
As he walked out of the bathroom, Lin Jinyao’s gaze swept across the walk-in closet. The door was half-open.
Strange?
Mu Huacheng was usually fastidious to the point of obsession; how could he leave it like this? Which maid had failed at their job? They would surely be fired upon his return.
With this thought, Lin Jinyao walked over on a whim, intending to close the closet door.
Just as he was about to shut it, something in the distance reflected a faint light under the sun hitting the glass display case.
What was that? Lin Jinyao’s footsteps paused, and he walked slowly into the closet.
Inside were rows of neatly pressed suits and shirts. A drawer below was half-open, as if it had been left unclosed in a hurry.
Shifting his gaze slightly to the side, a red sandalwood Hetian Jade Pendant came into view.
Lin Jinyao’s eyes widened in disbelief, and his breath hitched instantly.
Because this jade pendant was the one Zhou Xubai had half-coaxed and half-forced away from him on her eighteenth birthday.
He had worn this pendant since childhood; it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it his protective amulet. It was also the first gift his father had given him for his full-month celebration. After his parents passed away, this pendant became his only memento of them.
Impossible, it’s impossible… how could it be here? Lin Jinyao’s fingers trembled slightly, the cold touch of the jade making his scalp tingle.
He turned the pendant over. There was a tiny crack inside, a mark left when Zhou Xubai had accidentally dropped it once. Turning it to the back, he saw two nearly worn-away letters engraved at the bottom — L.
The initial of his surname!
This was undoubtedly the jade pendant that once belonged to him.
Lin Jinyao’s temples throbbed painfully as various possibilities intertwined in his mind.
He was certain that Mu Huacheng must have met Zhou Xubai!
Otherwise, how could the pendant appear in Mu Huacheng’s closet?
Just when he had finally convinced himself that Mu Huacheng wasn’t involved, this situation arose.
This man did it on purpose, absolutely on purpose!
He just hadn’t expected… that after all this time, the jade pendant would find its way back to his hands!
Knock, knock, knock!
Lin Jinyao’s thoughts were interrupted by a sudden knock on the door.
Mr. Lin, are you awake? Chen Jin’s voice came from outside. The designer arrived early and is waiting downstairs for your fitting.
Lin Jinyao quickly stuffed the jade pendant into his pocket and adjusted his breathing. Understood, I’ll be down in a moment.
He took one last look at the drawer to ensure nothing else was out of place before closing the closet door.
The fitting process in the afternoon was long and grueling.
Three designers hovered around Lin Jinyao, constantly adjusting every detail of the formal wear.
Lin Jinyao was like an expressionless mannequin, being moved from one side to the other, then back again.
Chen Jin stood to the side, stifling a laugh.
A miracle! It’s perfect! The lead designer, Chryser, clapped in admiration. Mr. Mu will definitely love it.
Lin Jinyao stood before the floor-length mirror, looking at his reflection without emotion. He looked like a gift meticulously prepared for Mu Huacheng.
That was it, wasn’t it? A gift. As long as the master liked it, nothing else mattered.
Mr. Lin, what do you think? Chryser asked expectantly.
It’s fine. Lin Jinyao’s mind wasn’t on the clothes; his response was half-hearted. His thoughts were entirely on the Hetian Jade Pendant in his pocket.
He needed to find out why it was in Mu Huacheng’s possession.
Then we’ll finalize this style. Chryser signaled his assistant to take notes.
Understood, Lin Jinyao said flatly, turning toward the dressing room. I’m tired and need to rest for a while.
Seeing that his complexion was indeed poor, Chen Jin didn’t linger. Once the task was finished, he quickly sent Lin Jinyao back to the bedroom to rest.
That day, Mu Huacheng pushed aside his work and went nowhere. He simply stayed home to accompany Lin Jinyao, the two of them sitting quietly by the pond fishing.
Lin Jinyao deliberately took the jade pendant out to fiddle with it. As expected, it drew a side-glance from Mu Huacheng, but the man said nothing.
Lin Jinyao secretly observed Mu Huacheng’s expression.
He certainly was calm!
Has Mr. Mu met Zhou Xubai? Lin Jinyao finally couldn’t help but speak.
Mu Huacheng only gave a faint smile. You’re deducing that I’ve met that girl just from a jade pendant?
Otherwise, why would the pendant I gave to her be with you?
This jade pendant is mine.
How is that possible!
Mu Huacheng adjusted his fishing rod and asked in return, Why is it impossible?
This was a full-month gift my father gave me. It even has the initial of my surname on it.
Mu Huacheng turned his head to look at him and suddenly laughed. I was the one who gave you this jade pendant at your full-month celebration, not your father!
What?
Lin Jinyao was stunned. You knew my father?
If you want to know, go investigate it yourself. Mu Huacheng didn’t want to discuss the past further and remained silent.
Lin Jinyao gave a speechless, mocking laugh and stopped talking as well.
He simply picked up a small stone from beside him and threw it into the water in front of Mu Huacheng, one after another. The splashes scared away the fish that were about to take Mu Huacheng’s bait.
Mu Huacheng wasn’t angry. Seeing Lin Jinyao’s smug expression as he dusted off his hands, Mu Huacheng only smiled slightly, readjusted his hook, and cast the line into the water again.
As one of the only three people who knew the truth, Chen Jin stood behind them, shaking his head as he listened to their conversation.
Couldn’t these two just be straightforward? Wouldn’t it be better to just speak clearly?
Perhaps he was getting out of touch; he couldn’t understand Mr. Mu’s methods of pursuit at all.
