Chapter 6 Loren: Do you want to go back?

The next morning, the two left Echo Valley together.

After two days of walking, they had passed through all the demon strongholds and were now very close to the Walg Black Market.

Before them lay a forest shrouded in mist, dense with branches, leaves, and vines, and harboring many venomous insects unique to The Abyss.

As they approached, Loren’s voice reached Su Sheng’s ears.

“Be careful when you go in. Don’t get scratched by the poisonous insects or leaves here; it will be very troublesome.”

Su Sheng set up a magical protective shield around himself, giving Loren a faint glance that seemed to say, “Do I need you to tell me such a small thing?” He pushed aside the vines and walked in first.

Loren shook his head and smiled, following closely behind.

The Black Market lived up to its name, hidden deep within the misty forest. After winding their way for a long time, the two finally found it.

A massive, mist-shrouded Spire Castle stood deep in the woods. The castle was built entirely of gray bricks and tiles. If one wasn’t paying close attention, they might walk right into it.

A giant demon guarded the castle gate, and beside it was a bloody skull flag, its tip impaling a string of severed heads, making the sight gruesome and terrifying.

It seemed intended to intimidate visitors.

But they did not approach immediately, stopping simultaneously. Su Sheng frowned, saying with some annoyance, “We don’t have the currency here. Even if we go in, we can’t buy anything.”

Loren drew the sword tucked at his waist, ran a finger along the blade, and smiled slightly. “Broaden your perspective, my dear Norton. Demons rob humans; why shouldn’t humans rob demons?”

    Su Sheng: “…”

    He supposed that was acceptable.

He hadn’t expected this human prince, who appeared so refined, to have such a violent way of doing things.

    And so, two hours later…

The two were each carrying a bulging small bundle. As they walked, Loren explained, “This is the castle’s only exit, and humans are forbidden from entering here.”

Hearing this, Su Sheng furrowed his brow. “Then how are we supposed to get in?”

Loren turned, smiling slightly. “That’s where you come in.”

Looking at Loren’s expression, Su Sheng immediately understood what he wanted him to do, but to concoct a disguise potion, he needed the blood of a high-ranking demon.

After a moment of silence, he said, “I don’t have the materials.”

“What if I have this?” A bottle of clear, glistening green liquid appeared in Loren’s hand.

Su Sheng glanced at it, slightly surprised. “Fallen Elf blood? You actually have this?”

It was no wonder Su Sheng was shocked. Fallen Elf blood was the best material for making disguise potions. It produced realistic effects, lasted the longest, and, most importantly, could even change one’s physique, making detection extremely difficult. Moreover, the number of Fallen Elves currently in existence was extremely small, and they were highly wary of both humans and demons. Even the Holy Temple only possessed a mere half-bottle. Su Sheng had no idea where Loren had managed to acquire their blood.

“I think this will work,” Su Sheng said, and began to move.

Half an hour later, two bottles of potion were ready. Su Sheng handed one bottle to the prince and drank the other, saying, “This potion lasts for one hour in total. We must be quick.”

For navigating the vast Walg Black Market, this time limit was quite tight.

Logically, given Su Sheng’s skill, nothing should go wrong. Yet, the two were still stopped by the guards upon entering.

When the guard blocked them, Su Sheng’s heart instantly leaped to his throat. He didn’t turn around, but secretly tightened his grip on the dagger in his hand.

Were they discovered? It shouldn’t be possible.

Su Sheng didn’t know that the guard was actually trying to stop the person next to him—Loren, the Demon King.

Loren clearly noticed this. He subtly shifted his body out of Su Sheng’s line of sight and gave the guard a cold look. The guard instantly knelt down.

The sound of the guard kneeling was quite loud, startling Su Sheng. Su Sheng thought he had truly been discovered and was about to turn back to fight, but just as he prepared to turn, Loren pressed down on his head.

Su Sheng was pressed into a bow, and he was so close to Loren that he had the strange sensation of being embraced by him. At the same time, a peculiar thought began to rise in Su Sheng’s mind.

But this was clearly not the time to dwell on such things. Su Sheng forcefully suppressed the strange feeling, allowing Loren to act, and only asked softly:

    “What happened?”

    “Nothing.”

Only after Loren spoke did Su Sheng realize how close Loren was. His head was resting near Su Sheng’s right ear, and his voice sounded right next to him. With every word, a wave of warm air brushed against the back of Su Sheng’s neck, causing a tickle.

Su Sheng shifted uncomfortably to the side. Upon noticing this, Loren only held him tighter, pushing Su Sheng to run forward.

“They seem to be fighting. Let’s slip away quickly!”

Loren’s voice was light and slightly amused, momentarily reminding Su Sheng of the time he used to skip classes with Femon before he became the Saint Son.

    Those were somewhat happy times.

The castle was bustling with demons. All sorts of precious magical materials were laid out for sale, along with some forbidden magic scrolls. These were minor things, but what was truly disgusting was that they were also selling demon body parts here!

    All kinds, a dazzling array.

When Su Sheng saw a certain thick “rod” displayed in the center of a stall, with the demon vendor enthusiastically hawking it to a passing succubus, he felt his eyes assaulted and silently looked away.

Loren said from the side, “They sell representative objects from various City-States here. Let’s look for them.”

Su Sheng suggested, “Let’s split up. It will be faster that way.”

Loren agreed to the suggestion, and the two immediately went their separate ways.

Su Sheng moved through the various stalls. There were fifteen minutes left before the potion wore off, and he had already acquired three representative objects from the City-States: the first, third, and seventh. After informing Loren of his progress via magic, he continued his search.

A cool breeze blew across the back of Su Sheng’s neck. His Adam’s apple involuntarily bobbed. He subtly glanced around, then quickened his pace.

His figure rapidly weaved through the crowd of demons. Su Sheng tried to shake off the feeling of being watched, but no matter how fast he walked or where he hid, the sensation of being monitored remained like a shadow.

“Time to go.” A bad premonition arose, and Su Sheng hurriedly sent a message to Loren.

Upon receiving Loren’s reply, Su Sheng’s returning steps became even faster.

“Where are you going in such a hurry, little elf?”

At some unknown point, all the surrounding demons had turned around, staring at Su Sheng with malicious intent.

Some wanted to dismember him, while others harbored different intentions.

Su Sheng looked around. The sticky gaze clung to him like unremovable slime, making him feel sick.

His expression turned cold. After securing the items, he said disdainfully, “I advise you not to make a move.”

The demons clearly paid no attention to his warning, their voices vulgar. Some were already brazenly walking toward him, intending to touch him.

“Let us play with you, and we’ll let you go. How about it?”

“Fools who won’t listen to advice.” Su Sheng sneered, a cold light flashing in his eyes. He pulled out a short, sharp knife, which sliced through the air in a beautiful arc. With several thudding sounds, the hands of the demons reaching out instantly dropped to the ground.

The demons screamed, retreating a few steps, their eyes fixed on Su Sheng with shock and uncertainty.

Just then, the potion’s magic failed, and Su Sheng’s human face was fully revealed.

The demons present seemed stunned, their expressions frozen, but after only a moment, their eyes became intensely fervent and obsessed.

    “Such a beautiful face… and he’s a human!”

“Even the human Saint Son couldn’t be more stunning.”

The first to react were the demons whose arms Su Sheng had severed. They had initially been wary of his identity due to his strength, but if he was human, that concern vanished.

Seeing that he was about to be overwhelmed by the demon crowd, Su Sheng kicked off the wall, lightly leaping into the air, grabbing the ledge of a wall lamp, and flipping over it.

But this only temporarily got rid of the demons behind him. In front, more demons were constantly arriving, drawn by the commotion.

These demons swarmed in, forming thick walls that trapped Su Sheng inside. All sorts of gazes fell upon him, viewing him like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.

Seeing no way out, Su Sheng’s expression darkened. He raised his hand, and the small knife spun out cleanly, piercing several demons in succession before flying back to him.

But this couldn’t last. Facing so many demons, his stamina would eventually run out. If that was the case, he had no choice but to use magic.

Although using magic here would attract even more demons, it was the only option available.

Su Sheng chanted a spell. A massive golden magic circle appeared above his head, and a magic light sphere, like a blazing sun, rapidly expanded to the size of the castle.

Some smaller demons even let out shrill screams, unable to withstand the radiance of the light magic.

One demon seemed to recognize the spell, its mouth agape in shock, unable to speak. A moment later, someone cried out:

“He is the human Saint Son!”

Upon hearing this, some demons turned pale, their legs trembling, and they fled without hesitation.

However, a few others looked at Su Sheng with even greater fanaticism, though they were a small minority.

As Su Sheng pressed his finger down, the light sphere descended with the force of thunder. The surrounding demons’ continuous, agonizing screams nearly burst one’s eardrums.

This single strike caused the castle to rapidly collapse.

Su Sheng turned and left. A few individual demons still pursued him, but he no longer paid them any mind.

Meanwhile, outside the collapsing castle, the giant demon who had been guarding the gate stood silently behind Loren.

“Ah… what a shame about my Black Market.”

Although he expressed regret, Loren’s expression suggested otherwise.

Seeing Su Sheng about to emerge, Loren slightly tilted his head, his gaze falling upon the demon.

The demon seemed to realize something. “I am willing to offer my life to the great King of the Abyss.”

“Kill yourself. Make the traces look real, don’t let him find out,” Loren said coldly.

    “Yes.”

With a loud crash, the demon fell to the ground. At the same time, the castle completely collapsed. From the overwhelming dust emerged a dusty yet elegant young man.

Loren walked up to him, patted Su Sheng’s shoulder, and offered a slight smile. “I knew you would be fine.”

Su Sheng’s furrowed brow subtly relaxed. His gaze sharpened when he looked at the giant demon beside Loren. “Was it this one who tipped them off?”

Loren: “That’s why I already killed it.”

The giant demon’s body did indeed have several stab wounds. Judging by the angle and traces of the sword, everything looked normal. Therefore, Su Sheng didn’t pay much attention to the demon’s expression in death, which was quite peaceful.

He said, “Using magic here will definitely attract the attention of the demon City-States. Let’s leave here first and talk as we go.”

    Loren: “Alright.”

“How many representative objects did you get?” Su Sheng asked as he walked, watching Loren pull the items out of his cloth bag.

“Hmm, three in total: the second, fifth, and sixth City-States.”

“Then it seems we are only missing the representative object for the fourth City-State.”

Su Sheng frowned. He happened to have heard that the City Lord of the fourth City-State was a high-ranking succubus, rumored to be extremely fond of handsome humans and known for a fierce battle record that brought her instant fame.

But when he recalled the content of that battle record, Su Sheng’s face was filled with disgust.

As they walked, Loren suddenly stopped.

Su Sheng stopped too, asking, “What’s wrong?”

The prince turned around, smiling, and pointed at the map. “Look, we’ve reached this point.”

Su Sheng’s gaze fixed on a spot on the map. This place…

It seemed to be the border between The Abyss and the human towns.

“Do you want to go back?” Loren lowered his head, his voice very gentle.

Su Sheng glanced in the direction of the town, his feet involuntarily taking a step forward, but he failed to notice the obscure and complex look in Loren’s lowered eyes.
