Chapter 42: Chapter 42 How About We Both Take a Step Back?

Su Sheng’s body stiffened. He turned his head, his cold expression hinting at resistance: “I won’t see him.”

Adelaire did not ask for the reason. He nodded: “Alright.” He waved his hand, and layer after layer of Light magic shields enveloped the entire Holy Temple.

Su Sheng quietly let out a breath. Beside him were rows upon rows of bookshelves, the books piled high, seemingly encompassing all the knowledge on the continent.

He needed to investigate the history of the continent from five hundred years ago, the time before the God of Light fell into slumber.

When the Administrator entered this world, his soul was complete, so why is only half of it remaining now?

    Where is the other half?

Su Sheng searched for books while pondering. However, this situation must be related to those illegal Transmigrators.

The constant booming sounds of the magic shield being attacked echoed from outside the temple. Su Sheng, who was selecting books by the shelves, frowned. Seeing this, Adelaire waved another sound-dampening spell: “There, you won’t hear it now.”

Su Sheng glanced toward Adelaire and said, “Thank you for the trouble.”

The books on these shelves were comprehensive, but the few he had read on Dragon Island were not included. If all the books from Dragon Island were missing, that would be one thing, but specifically, only the books authored by that one person were absent.

At this moment, Adelaire walked over leisurely, his white robe trailing on the floor, spotless.

He asked Su Sheng, his voice gentle: “What are you looking for? Why not just ask me directly?”

“The books here are clearly very comprehensive, so why are The Conception of How to Fuse Light Magic and Dark Magic and the other books by the same author not included?” Su Sheng looked into Adelaire’s pale golden eyes and asked.

Adelaire looked surprised for a moment: “You don’t know?”

Su Sheng frowned and asked, “Should I know?”

Adelaire said, “Didn’t Lishiel tell you?”

A guess slowly surfaced in his mind. Su Sheng asked, “Could it be that these books were all written by the Demon King?”

Adelaire nodded: “Yes, these were notes Lishiel’s avatar casually wrote down while traveling the continent. That’s why they aren’t here.”

But the Holy Temple where Su Sheng had previously stayed contained many of this person’s notes. These were even considered valuable texts in the Holy Temple, and that person was very famous in magical history.

He hadn’t expected it to be the Demon King’s avatar.

As he thought about it, Su Sheng’s face suddenly turned ashen. The reason people knew that the Silver Star Orchid grew near the Demon King’s castle wasn’t because someone had actually been there, but because the Demon King had deliberately written about it in a book, and Su Sheng had been certain he had read that book.

…He suddenly felt like he had been played by the Demon King.

At this moment, Adelaire’s calm voice slowly soothed the anger in Su Sheng’s heart.

“Is there anything else you want to ask? Ask it all.”

Taking a deep breath, Su Sheng asked, “I want to know why you fell into slumber five hundred years ago? This part of history is missing from the Holy Temple records.”

Adelaire’s expression remained unchanged, but his eyes shifted slightly. Although the change was negligible, Su Sheng still noticed it.

“You should know that Lishiel and I are natural enemies.”

Seeing Su Sheng nod, Adelaire continued:

“One governs Light, the other governs Darkness. We are the bright and dark sides of the Creator God. Five hundred years ago, I went to the Biertos Mountains for something, and he followed me. We fought over it on the mountaintop. Because I had expended too much magic power then, Lishiel took the opportunity to seal me.”

Su Sheng realized, so that was the case.

When the device initially scanned this world, it only listed the standards of “Fame, Authority, and Justice.” Later, all the names related to these three things appeared on the parchment. Now, Lishiel’s name is absent, which can only mean that someone tampered with that fragment of his soul.

Clearing his thoughts, Su Sheng glanced at Adelaire. How to retrieve the soul had become a problem.

Only when the body in this world dies can the soul be collected by the device.

But with his current strength, trying to kill a god in this world was too difficult.

Perhaps now, he should go out and see this person.

    This person… his mission target.

    .

Outside the Holy Temple, through the transparent magic shield, Su Sheng looked toward Lishiel’s location in the distance.

This person had changed again compared to a few days ago. His eyes were bloodshot, and his expression was fierce, yet he somehow looked more disheveled.

Upon seeing him, the Demon King stopped striking the magic shield despite the backlash, staring blankly at Su Sheng, his face showing delight: “You are willing to see me?”

Adelaire consulted Su Sheng: “Do I need to remove the magic?”

Feeling nothing in his heart, Su Sheng said flatly, “No need. This is fine.”

Lishiel’s voice carried over from afar: “Norton, are you ready?”

He did not respond, but the Demon King seemed not to care whether he replied or not, saying, “Come out and come back with me.”

It wasn’t until the Demon King hammered the magic shield until his hand bled that Su Sheng coldly replied, “Impossible.”

These three words were like a sharp needle piercing the Demon King’s heart. His eyes instantly became terrifying. Lishiel took a step back, and a black light spot slowly condensed in his palm. His face instantly turned pale, unlike that of a living person.

“Why won’t you come with me?” Lishiel smiled slightly, looking at Su Sheng with a lack of comprehension, his expression utterly calm—if one ignored his black eyes that threatened to devour everything.

Su Sheng did not speak, his expression turning frigid.

Adelaire tilted his head toward Su Sheng and stated dispassionately, “The magic shield cannot withstand that attack.”

    Su Sheng closed his eyes.

“If you don’t want to go with him, I will find a way to keep you here.”

At this moment, Su Sheng suddenly smiled and said, “Thank you. I have a better idea, and I need your help.”

The magic shield shattered into light particles in mid-air. Lishiel instantly teleported in front of Su Sheng, intending to pull him into his embrace, but he was blocked by a figure.

“Adelaire, what exactly are you trying to do?!” Lishiel glanced at Su Sheng behind Adelaire, then shifted his gaze to the God of Light and roared.

“He doesn’t want to go with you,” Adelaire said calmly.

“He is mine. Aren’t you being a little presumptuous?”

The Demon King tried to pass around the side but was blocked again, so he had to stop, gritting his teeth as he looked at his nemesis. With him here, he truly couldn’t take Su Sheng away immediately—he knew it, this person was damnably annoying!

At this moment, Su Sheng walked around Adelaire and approached Lishiel. His dark eyes met Lishiel’s, and he slowly said, “Since my will cannot align with yours, how about we both take a step back?”

Lishiel looked at Su Sheng, moved his lips, then closed them. After a moment, he asked somewhat dejectedly, “How do we take a step back?”

Su Sheng looked at him, his gaze lowered slightly: “The continental calendar is a seven-day cycle. I will visit you regularly within those seven days.”

Lishiel’s eyes lit up, and he managed a smile: “Six days or five days?”

Su Sheng calmly swept his gaze over the Demon King’s delighted face and parted his lips to say, “Monday and Tuesday.”
