    Chapter 4 The Abyss

When he was transported by the teleportation array, Su Sheng felt as if a piece of his flesh had been ripped off, and the severed limbs sent sharp jolts of pain through him. At this moment, Su Sheng finally dropped his usual cold and indifferent expression, revealing a hint of agony.

    It really hurt…

When was the last time he had been this wretched?

    He couldn’t remember anymore.

After a flash of white light subsided, Su Sheng stared blankly at the sky, but after a moment, he realized something was wrong.

The branches in his view were tall but gnarled, the surroundings were bizarre and colorful, and the faint howls of beasts echoed around him, chilling him to the bone. Yet, this was not what made him uneasy.

What truly unsettled him was that the sky here was pure black, without a moon or stars, like endless darkness ready to swallow him whole.

Only the night sky of The Abyss looked like this.

Because it was a place steeped in evil and abandoned by the gods.

Three-quarters of the continent’s demons gathered there, and after the God of Light fell into slumber, the continent’s forces of light were unable to intervene, allowing the evolution of demon City-States.

Seven major demon City-States, mixed with undead, succubi, vampires, werewolves, fallen elves, necromancers, and countless other smaller demon races.

And a castle belonging to the Demon King.

Su Sheng lay weakly on the ground. This was terrible, he thought.

If it were his former self, he wouldn’t fear facing the Demon King himself, but now…

He looked at his severed hand and foot tendons and closed his eyes in despair.

The way he was now, he couldn’t even defeat the lowest-ranking demon, let alone the Demon King.

What should he do next? It seemed like he couldn’t do anything.

He had tried so hard to survive, only for it to end like this?

Su Sheng lay there calmly, silently gazing at the pitch-black sky above.

Suddenly, he let out a low chuckle.

Seriously, why did his spirit become so fragile just because his body was injured?

If betrayal and sacrifice couldn’t defeat him, what was being teleported to The Abyss?

Hadn’t he experienced this kind of thing enough? Being so injured he couldn’t walk, crawling out of a mountain of corpses using his arms, or clinging to vines for three days without daring to close his eyes to avoid demons. Before he became the Saint Son, he often found himself in such perilous situations, all to fulfill the expectations of the world and gain the chance to potentially kill the Demon King.

Now he didn’t have to live to satisfy others’ expectations, but that didn’t mean he was ready to give up on himself.

Rather than lying here waiting for death, he might as well take a gamble and draw a teleportation array with his blood.

Although the smell of fresh blood would attract nearby demons, if he was fast enough, he should be able to leave before they arrived.

    No sooner said than done.

Su Sheng used his body to slowly scrape out a circle. To prevent the blood from coagulating too quickly, he scraped his wrists on the rough gravel, then slowly began drawing on the ground.

Unfortunately, the Goddess of Fate seemed particularly unkind to Su Sheng. Just as he was about to finish drawing, a series of footsteps sounded at the last moment.

“What kind of blood smells so fragrant?”

A creature with a tail and pointed horns, resembling a human, walked over. Upon seeing Su Sheng clearly, it shrieked excitedly:

    “A human! It’s actually a human!”

Su Sheng took a deep breath, closed his eyes briefly, and turned his head to look. Meeting the creature’s greedy, thirsty purple eyes, his heart sank.

    It was a succubus.

The succubus was also stunned for a moment, but after its gaze swept over Su Sheng’s face, its eyes practically lit up, and the tail behind it began slapping the ground repeatedly:

“To think I would encounter such a beautiful human! Is this a reward bestowed upon me by the King of the Abyss?”

The succubus walked toward him step by step. Su Sheng lay on the ground, subtly covering most of the array markings, and quietly began chanting a spell. Perhaps the succubus was too excited, as it failed to notice the exposed parts of the array.

The succubus’s long, sharp nails reached for Su Sheng’s clothes. If the succubus had been more careful, it would have noticed that although the human before it seemed utterly powerless, his eyes held an icy coldness.

Taking advantage of the succubus’s distraction, he sped up his chanting.

At this moment, the succubus had approached and was about to tear off his clothes.

“Ah—! What was that! My hand!!!”

Suddenly, a cold flash appeared, and the hand the succubus had extended was cleanly severed.

He was only immobilized; he hadn’t lost his ability to use magic. No matter how his current circumstances changed, his bloodline would not betray him.

He could sever the hand of this low-level succubus with a few chants, but that was all he could do.

Before Su Sheng could catch his breath, he heard another set of footsteps.

    Not good, another one.

He stopped chanting and turned to look at the newcomer.

The person wore a hood, held a staff, and had a skeletal body—it was a necromancer!

At the same time, the succubus also saw the necromancer. It backed away a few steps, clutching its severed hand, its purple eyes filled with venomous resentment, but it dared not act rashly. It spat, “How unlucky!”

“I sense a rich power of light. Such delicious blood, only one person on the entire continent possesses it. Am I right, my old friend, Norton Similias?”

    Old friend?

    Did this person know him?

Su Sheng tried to recall, but couldn’t place the person, so he asked expressionlessly, “Who are you?”

The necromancer’s face began to twist:

“You! You were the one who drove me out of the Kingdom, forcing me to flee into The Abyss and become a despised undead! You deserve ten thousand deaths! I became like this because of you, and you don’t even remember me?”

    “…”

Su Sheng didn’t speak, but his silence answered everything.

The person was half-dead with rage, but after a moment, he reacted: “Look at you now, Norton, lying on the ground like a dead fish, unable to do anything. You still have the nerve to provoke me. Truly worthy of being this generation’s Saint Son. I heard you defeated the Demon King? Oh my god, why are you lying here?”

    He talks too much.

Su Sheng wanted to roll his eyes but restrained himself. He had already provoked the necromancer, achieving his goal. Further provocation might be counterproductive and even ruin his plan.

The demon continued to babble: “I never thought our Saint Son would become a cripple who can’t even lift the Holy Sword. Instead of dying here, why don’t you give me all your light blood? How about I become the Saint Son?”

Su Sheng remained silent, calculating the time in his mind. Feeling that enough time had passed, he tilted his head to the side.

The howling sounds nearby were becoming more frequent, but the necromancer was clearly unaware of the seriousness of the situation.

Just as the undead raised his staff to cast a spell, a wolf suddenly appeared, leaped forward, and snatched the staff away.

The necromancer froze for a second.

The incident happened too quickly and too coincidentally. The succubus couldn’t help but let out a burst of laughter nearby.

The undead glared at her: “You dare laugh at me?!”

“Jill, you shouldn’t monopolize a delicacy of this quality.”

The wolf behind him instantly transformed into a human shape and walked over.

Su Sheng curled his lips, observing the current situation.

The situation was unfolding as he expected. The longer he stalled, the more demons would arrive, making it easier to fish in troubled waters.

“Oh! It’s you! Stanford, what? Are you trying to steal this human from me too?”

“My dear Jill, I think we should share, right?”

“That’s right, you can’t keep it all to yourself.”

    The succubus chimed in.

While the three demons argued over who owned him, Su Sheng seized the opportunity to secretly continue drawing the array.

“Enough, if we argue any longer, more demons will just show up.”

    The werewolf concluded.

This conclusion seemed to be accepted by the demons. When the three demons looked over simultaneously, they saw Su Sheng secretly drawing the array.

The necromancer yelled, “Stop him! He’s drawing a teleportation array!”

    “Tsk.”

Damn it, he was discovered! Just a few minutes short! Su Sheng’s expression turned grim.

The teleportation array was just a few strokes away from completion, but if he changed it to a summoning array, it only needed one stroke.

Casting a Light Summoning Array required several conditions, but the most crucial one was the completion of the array pattern.

    Should he gamble?

    He had to.

The werewolf quickly lunged toward his neck, and the necromancer also cast a spell at Su Sheng.

Enduring the searing pain, Su Sheng drew his hand across the ground, completing the final stroke.

At that moment, the werewolf’s canine teeth were already next to Su Sheng’s neck.

He didn’t know if this Light Summoning Array would work.

He held his breath, his eyes fixed on the werewolf’s sharp teeth, which were right in front of him. His skin had already been pierced, and a slight tingling sensation traveled up his nerves. He gently closed his eyes. Did it not work?

Was he going to fall in this world?

How would he face the eagerly awaiting staff of the Transmigration Bureau?

This time, it seemed he was going to disappoint them.

But the anticipated pain never came. Su Sheng opened his eyes and saw the werewolf’s head rolling on the ground.

Directly in front of him, a figure with its back to him was confronting the necromancer and the succubus.

    Su Sheng was momentarily stunned.

    He was saved?

The next second, he was stunned again.

There was actually a human in this place?

But he had to admit that this human’s fighting style was exquisite, and their combat power was quite strong. Within a few moves, they had subdued both the necromancer and the succubus.

After killing the two demons, the human sheathed their sword and walked over. Only then did Su Sheng clearly see the person’s face.

The person had a pair of azure blue eyes, like the unfathomable deep sea. A few strands of golden short hair on their forehead moved slightly in the wind, adding a touch of sexiness. Their features seemed sculpted by the gods, sharp and handsome. The dazzling golden crown on their head almost blinded the eye. He wondered which kingdom’s prince had come to The Abyss?

Even someone as proud as Su Sheng had to admit that this human was almost too handsome, not quite like a human, but closer to a “non-human” existence.

    “Hello, my name is Loren.”

Loren bowed to him, appearing extremely courteous.

After scrutinizing the human for a moment, Su Sheng said, “Norton.”

There were thousands of people named “Norton,” but only one person on the entire continent was named “Norton Similias.” He deliberately omitted his surname, not wanting others to guess his identity.

After stating his name, Su Sheng narrowed his eyes, quietly observing the person.

Loren seemed unfazed by the name. He smiled and said, “It’s a pleasure to meet you in The Abyss, my companion.”

The other party’s attitude temporarily eased Su Sheng’s mind, but the term of address made him frown.

“I am not your companion,” Su Sheng said. “Thank you for your righteous help. You can leave your address, and I will mail you ten magic scrolls, twenty light potions, and some other valuable items as thanks, but I think you can leave now.”

Su Sheng’s words were clearly too cold and harsh.

The other party was visibly taken aback, his expression turning surprised. He looked at Su Sheng’s severed hands and feet.

“Leave? You mean now? Leave you behind?”

The two looked at each other. Su Sheng stared at the other person. He didn’t speak, but his expression clearly affirmed the other’s words. Finally, Loren smiled.

“Oh no, the gods would punish me.” Loren walked over and crouched down to look at Su Sheng. “How about I help you reattach your severed limbs first?”

Su Sheng fell silent. If he could get that help, it would be wonderful, because he genuinely needed it.

A dense ball of life magic enveloped the areas where Su Sheng’s tendons and bones had been severed. A warm current filled his limbs and spread throughout his body.

In just a moment, his wounds were mostly healed.

However, Loren’s complexion was not very good.

“I apologize, my life magic is not proficient enough. I can only help you this much. The rest may need to rely on your own recovery,” Loren said apologetically.

He looks like a knight, but he knows a bit of healing magic, Su Sheng speculated.

If one chose the path of a knight, it wasn’t impossible to also study magic, but forcibly cultivating magic would not only be unhelpful for one’s future path but would also damage the body, as the body could not withstand two types of energy simultaneously.

But since Loren had helped Su Sheng, Su Sheng couldn’t directly question why he knew magic. He simply moved his expression slightly and said, “Thank you.”

“It is my honor to serve a companion,” Loren bowed slightly, then walked over and extended his hand.

Loren’s hand was broad and slender, with a beautiful shape. There were calluses in some areas, likely caused by gripping a sword.

Su Sheng hesitated before reaching out, but finally took Loren’s hand and was pulled up.

“I imagine you must be wondering why I came to The Abyss?”

As if he could read minds, Loren looked at him and smiled.

“Because a family member of mine is ill and needs some things from The Abyss, so I came.”

The Abyss did produce medicinal materials that could cure diseases, so this reason was reasonable enough.

“I’m sorry to hear that,” Su Sheng said, offering a polite remark. After saying it, he felt bad that the other party had helped him so much without him offering anything in return, so he added another sentence.

    “Perhaps I can help you.”

Unbeknownst to him, this was exactly what the other party wanted to hear. Loren’s eyes visibly brightened. Just as he opened his mouth to say something, he was interrupted by two demons leaping toward them.

Loren gritted his teeth, drew his sword, and slashed forward. Fueled by what seemed like anger, the heads of the two demons instantly rolled to the ground.

“Phew, luckily they were just two low-level demons, right, Norton? Let’s walk together from now on.”

Su Sheng didn’t respond, just watched Loren thoughtfully.

This person’s fighting style gave him a familiar feeling.

Loren smiled slightly, subtly sheathing his sword behind him.

Su Sheng thought for a long time but couldn’t place the person, concluding that he was being overly sensitive.

    He nodded and walked ahead.

Therefore, he didn’t see Loren’s gesture of flicking his fingers, which was identical to the Demon King’s.
